  • Images from my i-pad, stored in i-photo, will randomly refuse a drag and drop attempt. I can move the image to the desktop, and from there to the document (mail etc.) and it will work (display image). As I mentioned, these events are random. ....Help !

When executing a drag and drop from i-photo to a document, occasional, random, images will refuse  drop onto the document. The work around is to drag the offending image to the desk top, and from there to the document.
Question:  What is causing these random "rebel" images to misbehave ?

It is better to use export or to use the media browser form the target program

  • I lost all my passwords from the previous version of Firefox when I upgraded to Firefox 4. I have all the files. Is there any way to import them into Firefox 4?

Typically, when I have upgraded a program, all of the bookmarks, passwords, etc. have transferred to the newest version but, for some reason that did not happen with Firefox 4. I still have all my preferences files as they were moved to the trash. Is there any way I can import them back into the new version of Firefox as it is very frustrating to have lost them.

If you used the option to delete settings, or whatever it is worded when uninstalling, Firefox will remove all your important data information from profiles for all installed versions of Firefox, and you will then need luck and a file recovery utility to try to restore the information.
You mentioned files being moved to Trash, I was hoping you may still have the required original files. I use Windows XP, and I realise Macs use different locations for files, but I think the files have the same names.

Note the last article discusses problems when bookmarks are lost, and some of the possible reasons and solutions. Obviously I do not know what has actually happened in your case, and whether or not you used the delete option I initially mentioned.

  • When i upgrade to mountain lion, do i have to back up my computer or will all my stuff still be there after the upgrade?

Sorry i'm a moron, but i just want to know if i were to upgrade to mountain lion do i need to back-up all of my fles or will it just upgrade and transfer over. when i bought my imac i had it come with apps already installed and i dont want to lose them with an upgrade, but i am SO READY for an upgrade. any help or thoughts would be very appreciated..

You need to do both; the upgrade won't itself delete the files, but problems are likely to occur during it, and drives can fail.

Hi I am just now downloading Creative Clouds :-) as an upgrade from an old Creative Suite 5.5. Before that I hade a Creative suite 3 etc. Is it necessary that I keep all these old programs etc on my computer to make Creative Clouds work or is it better that I uninstall them? Kind regards, AnnaReet

It is not necessary to retain the older installations.  YOu might want to consider if you will have any need for them in terms of working with older files, but other than that you can probably uninstall them without missing them.

I just upgraded from PS cs4 to cs6. All of my files open up viewing at .0625% - which is very irritating. How can I change this?

Are you on a Mac or PC?  If the former, do you have the Application Frame visible?
Could you post a screenshot of how Photoshop CS6 looks when you first open an image and have it show at the tiny size?
Chances are you've made the main Photoshop window small, which is causing it to try to fit a newly opened image in too small a space.
I'm going to make a wild guess that you're on a Mac, and have dragged the bottom edge of the Photoshop window up instead of turning off the Application Frame, so as to be able to see your desktop.

When you upgrade from iPhone 3 to 4, will you lose any existing texts you have saved?

That does do that. However it is a temporary backup and not the most reliable. Make sure you also go into file > Transfer purchases from _______ to make sure you save your music and apps. though the article that wjosten posted is correct for the backup as well. But article HT1414 is better for info on backing up.

  • If I upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 will I have to pay again for upgrading to CSCC?

If I upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 will I have to pay again for upgrading to CSCC?
I have CS5.5 and my current clients have CS6.
If I upgrade to CSCC will I have any trouble saving back my files to CS6? Are there any know issues that occur when saving back to CS6 or earlier?

Why would you update to CS6 when you can go directly to CC.  And while you wouldn't pay another upgrade amount you would have to pay the monthly subscription whether you upgrade to CS6 or not.
And you shouldn't have problems saving your files in a form that is readable by CS6.  You wouldn't be able to make further adjustments on items that are not in CS6 ie. Shake reduction, however the adjustments you make in CC will be visible.

  • I own Creative suite 5, itself an upgrade from cs3 and want to open Nikon d800 files

I own Creative suite 5, itself an upgrade from cs3 and want to open Nikon d800 files?

    Hi,
From within photoshop cs5 go to Help>Updates to install the latest updates for your cs5 applications
including camera raw 6.7 which should open the D800 camera raw files.

  • When upgrading to os x lion, will all my files stay in place or what?

when upgrading to os x lion, will all my files stay in place or what?

Yes of course, Apple knows a users files are valuable and won't just go deleting them .
However, OS X upgrades can go bad due to unforeseen circumstances or special modifications people have done to their operating systems or even root level anti-virus installs like Norton.
If the upgrade goes bad, your operating system can become "bricked", requiring a lot more effort to recover your files.
Also third party programs like from Microsoft, Adobe and others may not be ready for OS X Lion, if you have any "mission critical" needs for the computer, it's best to wait several months, yes SEVERAL MONTHS, to make absolutely sure all the bugs are worked out of third party drivers, software, printers, scanners etc., and even OS X Lion itself.
Always backup your valuable data, to write protected cd/dvd's if all possible for the reason that humans, even myself I just recently learned, can very very easily erase data on re-writable media like hard drives due to human error.
TimeMachine is a somewhat ok image backup system, Carbon Copy Cloning of one's boot drive onto a external drive which is hold option bootable is great in case your hard drive dies, but for your most precious data, you really should be burning, labeling, dating and storing multiple cd/dvd's.

    1. Should be possible to do that; go to the Utilities menu and select 'reset password' before starting the installer. (while booted from the DVD of course)
    2. Standard installation of SL only replaces system components; applications, user data and preference settings should not be affected.
    3. But you do have a backup just in case, don't you?

if i upgrade my iphone to ios 5 will all my apps be deleted?how can i save them?

    Your Apps won't be deleted.
You can back up before you update.
You can always re-download apps from the purchased option in the app store.

  • I just got my ipod from my dad and he has all of his songs on there from his mac, and so now he gave the ipod to me and i want to put all of the songs on MY computer onto my new ipod and take all of the songs of that my dad originally had.

i just got my ipod from my dad and he has all of his songs on there from his mac, and so now he gave the ipod to me and i want to put all of the songs on MY computer onto my new ipod and take all of the songs of that my dad originally had.

When you connect the iPod to your computer and go to the Music tab to select which music you want to sync, iTunes will pop up a dialogue box that if you sync your music it will replace the music that is already on the iPod.
Since that sounds like what you want to do, just click ok and then sync.

As Austin Kinsella1 says, it's a good idea to check your program versions.
I have found this site really helpful with that:

  • Will all my files be saved on my Mac after I upgrade? Because I do not have an external drive.

Will all my files be saved on my Mac when I upgrade? Because I do not have an external drive.

Upgrading should not damage your content, however, it is strongly recommended that you make a current backup on an external drive just in case something goes wrong.  I have never had to use a restore but always have a backup just in case.
