If I upgrade to Mac OS X Lion will I lose Applications/Documents/etc.
I was wondering if I upgrade to Mac OS X Lion tomorrow, will my applications and all the documents that are saved on my computer be there after the upgrade? I do not have money to buy an external hard drive right now to do the back up, so will I be safe without it?
Hi,
Look at it this way...
If you have a Backup and (for whatever reason) Something goes Horrible Wrong.. You have Lost Nothing...
Without a Backup... You could Lose Everything....
Not a Nice Thought At All...
So take all the Advice already Offered and Backup... Backup... Backup...
And then Upgrade your OS...
Just my 2 cents worth...
Cheers,

Do make sure that your Mac disk is error free (run disk utility) and that you have > 15gb free. -
Problems Problems after upgrading to Mac OS X Lion
I upgraded my mac os to Lion last week on my Mac air. After loading, my norton could not work probably. Then last night, files in my start up disk doubled and hence error appeared - that my disk is full while I only used 50% of the storage capacity.
This morning my iphone 4 also appeared to be have the SMS messages and photos and every files also appeared to duplicate itself.
Can anyone assist ?After loading, my norton could not work probably.
Does Norton ever work properly?
Norton is a known troublemaker, and most likely the version you have is incompatible with Lion. You could try updating Norton, but personally, that's one I'd remove immediately and never come near again. If you feel you need AV software on your Mac, the only thing I would recommend wholeheartedly is ClamXav. Sophos' free home AV software would be my second choice, though with some reservations, as I've heard of people having problems with it.
As to the doubling files problem... can you describe more precisely what you're seeing? I've never heard of such a problem before. -
My Safari browser won't open. I had upgraded to Mac OS X Lion. What do I do?
My iMac is 2008 built. In March 2012, I upgraded to Mac OS X Lion. Since then I had problems after problems. Since the computer was getting slower and slower, I thought the Prosoft Drive Genious 3 would be useful. When I installed it on iMac, it caused more problems. I removed the Prosoft Drive Genius 3 from the internal iMac hard drive and tried to install it on an external drive.
Now I can't access Safari. It doesn't open. I had to download Mozilla Firefox browser. I don't see any links on Apple site for the latest Safari browser for Mac. What do I do to download Safari.August 10, 2012 1:00 PM
Thank you very much for your email and the post. I copied the segments of the crash report from the Console and pasted and edited in the TextEdit. I don't know what shutdownStall etc is.

There's no mac app store availiable to download for me.
I want to upgrade to Mac OS X Lion, but without that mac app store it seems to be impossible.
I did all software updates but never got that mac app store. So what can I do now?THis is because you have two OS X upgrade steps. First, you need to upgrade to Snow Leopard ($29 us, disk only, no download).
Once you've upgraded to Snow Leopard, and run Software Update to get to 10.6.8 then you'll have the Mac App Store and can take the second OS X upgrade step to Lion 10.7.2. -

I hv lost my icon for iphoto on my Imac Mac OSX10.5.8. I still hv my pics but can no longer creat albums and events. If I upgrade to the latest Mountain Lion, will my pics go into the new iphoto?
From where did you lose the iPhoto icon? From the Dock? If so, then it's still in your Applications folder. Find it there then drag the icon back into the Dock. If it's no longer in Applications perhaps you've moved or renamed it. Use Spotlight to search for "iphoto."
Upgrading to Mountain Lion will not affect your iPhoto Library unless you erase the hard drive first. Be sure you backup before any system upgrade.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
Snow Leopard General Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
2. 1GB of memory
3. 5GB of available disk space
4. DVD drive for installation
5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
fees may apply.
6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
terms apply.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Lion System Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
or Xeon processor
2. 2GB of memory
3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
4. 7GB of available space
5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
7. Xserve (Early 2009)
Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion. -

how can i upgrade my mac ox to lion. Also i want to know if i upgrade my ox, the application that i have installed will remain there or i want to reinstall it. I was using Adobe CS5 master collection & Autocad 2011 mainy on my mac.
"how can i upgrade my mac ox to lion."
Using the App Store which should be in your dock because you are presently running OS 10.6.6 or higher (are you?) pay for and download the Lion installer.
"if i upgrade my ox, the application that i have installed will remain there..."
They should. That said you have a back up plan no doubt just incase?
"I was using Adobe CS5 master collection & Autocad 2011 mainy on my mac."
CS5 runs in Lion but AutoCad may have some problems check all third party apps with their respective vendor. And when you post do include information about your Mac. If it is not a core 2 duo you won't be installing Lion. -

Just upgraded my Mac laptop to Lion to take advantage of iCloud, spent hours trying to get iCloud to work, not happy, tried everything still does not work, this is the first time i have been defeated.
The initial upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion is 10.7.1. Have you done the system update to 10.7.2 already?
And since there isn't any general overview of what you've tried, see if anything at this site will help" http://help.apple.com/icloud/index.html#
