They can share an Apple ID, but each device must use a different email address when setting up FaceTime. Create a gmail email (or hotmail, or ...) address and use that on one of the devices when you setup FaceTime.
You don't actually have to use the 'new' email address, it is probably just used as an index to reference the correct device when initiating a call via the FaceTime server.

Yes you can do it. I do it with 4 different devices all using the same Apple ID.
You need to associate different email addresses for each device in order to use those email addresses as the "contact at" email address. The reason the calls are dropping on you now is that what you are trying to do is like calling yourself on your own phone.
You can also create new iCloud accounts on each device simply to use for FaceTime, but I'm guessing that the users of the other two devices have their own email addresses which will make this work for you quite easily.

My iPod has music and apps from my apple ID that I downloaded to my iPod via iCloud and some apps that I got free from the store, straight onto my iPod, but my laptop has some music on it aswell, separate from my other library. I want to put the music from my laptop into my iTunes library which I want to use on both computers. Is it possible to do this?

- You can only sync an iPod to one iTunes library/computer. You can however, manually manage music and videos among different libraries.
Go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.

You can use separate AppleIDs for iCloud, iMessage and iTunes - you just need to create unique AppleIDs for the iCloud accounts if syncing contacts that way (you will need an email address that is not already registered as an AppleID though to get another AppleID).
Apps are a different matter in that purchases are tied to the AppleID used to log in to the store to make the purchase. So you can create another AppleID for iTunes as well and use different ones on the different phones, but any apps you have already purchased with your existing AppleID are permanently tied to that AppleID.
Really, unless you are sharing apps, content and such, there is no reason to use the same AppleID on each anyway. So the simplest solution is to create new AppleID(s) for the second device. If you need an email address to do that, just get a gmail account (or hotmail, yahoo or any other free email account).

If you use the same Apple ID for iCloud on each device, yes. However, you can use the same Apple ID for iTunes content on each device, but different Apple ID's for iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, etc., on each device. That way, you can have whatever iTunes content you want on each phone, but keep all of the other data separate. You can create another Apple ID here:

I don't know about the "3" but it's a POP account. I've always suspected that Charter isn't letting go using their mobile apps for iOS. Puzzling that it doesn't block the other way. That is if Mail is open on the iMac it doesn't block access to Mail on either the iPad or iPhone. I'm guessing it's their mobile apps that are the problem but they won't admit it to me.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

You will have to go on the web page of your respective email account via a computer. EX : Gmail if so..
Once you logged in your account you want to go to settings. What you want to find is the option to select between IMAP or POP email settings.
IMAP is what you want. Select IMAP to every email clients you have. OUTLOOK , HOTMAIL, YAHOO ...etc.
IMAP is the way to go when it comes to using web email via multiple devices

My iCloud id is currently the same as my NZ Apple id. I am about to also create a new US Apple id. Should I then create a new iCloud id with it or use the existing one with both Apple IDs? BTW this is for both new iPad and iPhone4.

I already have purchases linked to my existing NZ Apple ID, and will still be using them. However, once the US Apple ID is set up I will use that predominantly from both devices for any new purchases (and Apple TV).

"Face Time" and "Messages" can tie several devices to on Apple ID driven by contact email or phone number. I am hard pressed to believe that Find my Friends can't be set up in a similar format.
Please help because this is frustrating me to the point of smashing an iPhone or 2!!
