Yes, your entire family can use one AppleID just for purchases in the iTunes and App Stores, then each of you can use your own unique AppleIDs for all other services (iCloud accounts, iMessage accounts and so on).
You can have as many AppleIDs as you wish (or have email addresses for), and you can use a different one for each service Apple offers, if you wished to.
By doing what you suggest, you also limit the number of AppleIDs with payment information associated with them, so there is only one single AppleID that can be compromised that way.  Keeping one AppleID for purchases and another (with no payment information tied to it) for everything else is not a bad practice for anyone to follow.

It would be tremendously helpful to be able to access, set restrictions, and make changes from the parents device, to all devices under the same iTunes account, so that I could make changes to my kids devices without physical access.
I understand that I can set up a different Apple ID for the kids devices, or take physical control of the device and make the changes myself. However, my teenage son is technically savvy enough to have a job in Silicon Valley, as are most young people these days. However, in order to access his devices the current way, I first have to bypass the four digit pass code. This starts a fight of why I need in the device and continues to escalate. The argument that I am the parent will gain access but the fight is simply exhausting, and quite frankly shouldn't have to happen at all. He is not yet an adult, he did not pay for his iPad or iPhone and I, as a parent, should have not only have the right to change options at will, and from anywhere, but look at history or current activity when I feel like it.
I currently have the settings where app and in-app purchases require my password to be put in, and he must come to me to type it in, but I need more control and would like, and should be able to access any of our six devices and make individual changes simply by logging in to my account, with my password.
If I can see all my devices on the "Lost My iPhone" app, this technology should be easy to make happen.
C'mon parents! I have a pretty good kid, given all things that they can get into, but I am not stupid. For everything I see has been done, there is much more I haven't seen. I want my children to be kept safe and be able to know what they are looking at or listening to. We parents are the only ones who know our beliefs and what our kids can handle and when.
Thanks for any support or information that I may be missing in order to fulfill my request.

There are mobile device management solutions that can do this, including in Apple's OS X Server system, but most parents generally find that setting this up is more work than it's worth. If you're interested, though, there are a couple that at least purport to be free (I don't know if there are any hidden "gotchas"):
    http://www.unwireddevicelink.com/features/
    https://meraki.cisco.com/products/systems-manager
    and Apple's system:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/server/features/#profile-manager
I don't think any, however, allow you to see current activity or browser history. iOS doesn't expose those to access from MDM solutions, to the best of my knowledge.
    Regards.

    1) You asked "Does she need to reconnect to that itunes/computer and if so what do we need to do to remove this folder of pics from her ipod?" Yes, you have to connect the iPod to that computer and go to the Photos pane for the iPod in iTunes and uncheck sync photos and the click on synce/apply. In the future do not check sync photos.
iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes
    2)
Create a NEW account for using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Then on the iPod go to
    - Settings>Messages>Send and receive and sign out your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that only her ID email address is listed.
    - Settings>FaceTime sign out of your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that under You can be reached at only her ID email address is listed
    - Settings>iCloud and sign out and sign in with hers
Contnue to use the commpn ID/account for Settings>iTunes and App stores.

Althrough I have updated my credit card information, but still unable to use the apple ID.

If you are making use of a "subscription" desktop application the subscription has to be "active" (paid up).
Once your updated info is processed you'll be able to use the subscription application.
As Bernd wrote - Adobe Reader is free (download, install, use).

  • HT1311 I have two iPhones on my account, but I want each to use a different iTunes account so that the directory for one iPhone does not end up on the other when both use the cloud to sync. How to do it?

I have two seperate iPhones on my cellular carrier, but since I unwisely used the same AppleID for both phones iTunes, the two different users end us seeing each other's apps and directories of phone numbers (when each is sync'd through the cloud).
How do I take one of the two phones and move it to a different Apple account?
    Thanks

To move one of the phones to a different iCloud account (if that's what you want to do), go to Settings>iCloud and turn all synced data to Off.  When prompted, choose to keep the data on your iPhone.  After everything is off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  This will delete the account from the phone but not from iCloud so the other phone will not be effected.  Then set up a new iCloud account with a different Apple ID and turn iCloud syncing in Settings>iCloud back to On.  When prompted, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new iCloud account.
You will then have to go to icloud.com and sign into each iCloud account separately and delete any unwanted data that you don't want on the phone syncing with each account.

  • Someone stole my ipod while i was at school. i was wondering if apple is able to locate the stolen ipod through a serial number considering i still have it.  i also have another ipod linked to the same itunes account if that means anything.

Hi, someone stole my ipod during school. I was hoping that apple would be able to find my ipod through the serial number.  the stolen ipod is linked to the same itunes account as one of my other ipods... if that means anything.  another thing is the passcode was on when it was taken so who ever stole it probably isn't having much luck getting into it. anyways, i would be glad to hear anyone's ideas on how to get it back

Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod.  If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number).  If any passwords are associated with a bank or any other savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  This requires action before the device is lost/stolen.  If the device has significant personal information, it should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

  • I have an Iphone4 and 3gs using the same apple id and same itunes account. is it possible for them to not share photos, contacts, and other information. I'm afraid to sync one and lose the info the other phone has

I have two iphone users sharing one apple id and itunes account. Can I snc both phones to the itunes account without sharing each others info i.e. photos, music, contacts? I am afradi to sync one and lose the information the other one has.

A solution would be to use Apple's iCloud to sync instead of iTunes. This requires the latest operating system, iOS 5. Now backups will be done to the cloud, and you can choose what gets synced across your devices by turning them off in iCloud settings (i.e. turn off Calendars, Photos, etc.).

    Hi richardwilliams51,
If you are having difficulty connecting to the Internet using your Apple TV, I would suggest troubleshooting using the steps in this article -

If that does not completely fix your Apple TV, you may need to restore it, using this article -

  • (Windows 8.1) My iTunes takes a while to open, freezes and doesn't recognize any apple device plugged into it.  I've uninstalled iTunes and other software components in the order I was told but still end up with the same result. Why is that?

Why is iTunes for Windows 8 (8.1) taking so long to boot up, not recognizing an apple device and freezing after a proper uninstall and reinstall?

Hmm....I just had another thought.  All the machines are running Win7 SP1, BUT the 2 that can sync with MSE installed are 32bit versions, however the one that can't is 64bit.  Not sure if that makes any difference though.  All are clean installs with Win7SP1 media, not SP1 installed later.

  • How do I use the same iTunes account on 2 separate PCs?

Ok. I am new to Itunes in general & know there is probably an easy fix/explanation to my question.
Is there a way to use my same iTunes account for music downloading on 2 separate computers? I have iTunes downloaded on my home desktop computer but am wanting to use the same account on my computer for school? Is there a way to be able to share the songs on both computers without having to use like an external hard drive or cd or another method to transfer them between the 2. I want to be able to just download a song on one computer & then log in &  it be there on the other one? Thanks!

It is not clear how or where you "added" your email, but you cannot create an Apple ID using an email address that is already associated with another Apple ID.
If that is what you did, delete that email address from your family's Apple ID. You should be free to create a new one.
Do all that by starting here: https://appleid.apple.com/
Select "Manage your Apple ID". Log in with your family's Apple ID and then delete your own email address wherever it appears.
Save Changes, log out, and create the new one using the same website. This time select "Create an Apple ID".
Please don't forget your security questions, and be sure to specify a "rescue email address" that is separate from all other Apple IDs. You will avoid so many problems that way...

How do i make icloud work if my husband and I share the same itunes account but we dont want to get each others contacts, messages, apps etc?

Each of you should set up your separate iCloud account on your own computer using your Apple ID. This gives you two independent iCloud accounts.
Note that an iPad is not a multi-user device. It can only be synced with one account.
