Illustrator CS2 Doesn't Start For User on Windows 2000

I've recently installed Adobe Illustrator CS2 on a Windows 2000 system. When I start the product when logged in as the Administrator, it starts fine. However, when I start the product logged in as a user, it goes thru the startup process, displays all of the various tool windows, and then before it gets to the first time window, it just closes. No error messages, nothing in the Windows system or application log, it just closes the same windows it just opened and then exits.
I've tried setting the permissions on the folders listed in the Windows Rights KB entry, with no effect. I've tried installing a postscript printer, setting full rights on it, and using it as the default for the user.
Does anyone know what file right, user priviledge, or other feature might be causing the problem? Thanks.

I wasn't aware that it required Power User rights. This is somewhat of a high security environment, and that can be difficult.
Do you, by chance, know what features of Power User rights are needed? I can perhaps grant those to this user, and make it work.
Do you think it is having a problem accessing portions of the registry, or files in certain folders, or something else?

Help: OUI won't start for 9i on Windows 2000

I downloaded the 9i Enterprise Edition from OTN, then following the instruction created 3 folders (Disk1, Disk2, Disk3), unzipped the downloaded files to these folders repectively. But when I tried to run setup.exe from Disk1 folder, I got error message like
"The Java RunTime Environment was not found at ...... Hence, the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run. Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.3.1 or higher and try again."
I do have Oracle 8i on the same machine, and my JDK is version 1.4.1. I tried to uninstall my current jdk and still got the same error message. I tried to remove all the jdk path entries from my evironmental variables, that didn't fix it. I tried to stop all the running Oracle services, doesn't work...

When you mention p4-1.6, what exactly do you mean? Is this part of a documentation somewhere?

I know that there is a bug with OUI on 2000 with a certain processor (think it's the p4-1.6)
I do not recall what the identifier was, but this prevents OUI from launching.

Different behavior for mts on windows 2000

1) I've installed oracle service for MTS on "windows 2000 professional" and started an application written in VB in REQUIER mode, successfully (it worked with MS provider for oracle MSDAORA).
2) Then I installed the oracle service for MTS on "windows 2000 advanced server" tried the same application with the above provider and MTS in REQUIRE mode but the application fail.
The next step was to change the provider to oracle provider (I cannot remember its name, I found it in an article at metalink) and the application run.
My questions are:
a. Do you know about problem like this?
b. What to fix in order to work on "windows 2000 advanced server" the MTS in require mode and using the Microsoft provider for oracle (MSDAORA)?

Ronen, Your best bet is to talk to Microsoft support about this. The MSDAORA provider doesn't have anything to do with Oracle Services For MTS. However check the following registry values under the following registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSDTC\MTxOCI:
a) OracleOCILib
b) OracleSQLLib
c) OracleXALib
These must point to dlls located under the bin subdirectory of your ORACLE_HOME directory.

Illustrator CS2: Crash on Start-up

I am running (or, trying to run!) Illustrator CS2 on an XP-Professional OS. It used to run fine. But now, whenever I try to start it, I get a "Runtime Error" during initilization, and it won't go any farther.

There is no "\Application Data" folder in that location. The only folders I have in "C:\Documents and Settings\<my name>\" are: "\Desktop"; "\Favorites"; "\Files"; "\Start Menu"; "\Templates"; "\Toolbars (custom)"; and, "\WINDOWS". In fact, I did a search for a folder named "\Application Data", and did not find one anywhere on my system.
There is an "\Adobe" folder in "C:\Program Files", but there are not "\Application Data" or "\Illustrator CS2 Settings" folders anywhere in there, either.
Any other ideas where I might find the problem files to be deleted? Or is the fact that I don't have the "\Application Data" folder you mentioned, itself an indication of a problem?

hello, i use illustrator cs2, and since a few days - without having changed any options - the program doesn't highlight selected items any more. neither does it highlight selected text... so editing items becomes a guessing game which is extremeley annoying... i can't find anything on this in the help file... i hope anybody here can help me!

Flash player upgrade alert doesn't appear for users

I realize there's been an upgrade to the Flash player.
I have a client whose web site is built in Flash, however, and all that appears for her and most of her audience (PC, I think) is a blank screen -- no alert to let the users know that an upgrade is available.

In general, Flash Player is backwards-compatible. A new upgrade shouldn't render the site useless. My guess is that changes to Internet Explorer are actually at the root of the problem, but a survey of what configurations the site does and doesn't render under would be useful in understanding what's happening. At a quick glance, I see that there are some conditional comments in your HTML, which IE no longer supports.
You might want to take a look at using SWFObject to embed the SWFs instead of using the Object/Embed tags that you're currently using:

This may also be related to ActiveX filtering in IE. When I view the site in IE11, I get the prompt asking if I want to show Flash content. Once I allow it, the content renders as expected.

Doesn't enterprise manager works on windows 2000

I'm trying to install Enterprise manager 2.1.0 on Windows 2000. It is getting installed but whenever i try to start the services, it gives error that Some I/O operation is going on and hence it cannot start.

System.getProperty("user.name")Please note that this property is subject of security constraints (and there're good reasons for this, read the Java Tutorial, Trail: Essential Java Classes, Lesson: Accessing System Resources for details). For example, web applications running inside Tomcat are not allowed to query this property by default. Think twice before doing this, you have been warned!

1. Change the startup type to manual in the windows service panel
2. Restart the Windows 2000 PC
3. Start the Oracle service by clicking the start button in the services window.
4. It will hit the same error ie 1053..
5. Now kill the oracle process using windows Task Manager
6 Once again go back to services window and click the start button
7. It will show the status meter window with a close button..
8. After the status meter crosses halfway hit the close button..
9. Your oracle process is started now..

You should consider to base your firm security and central user repository on REALLY SECURE and ROBUST product technology. Not on Windows 2000 Active Directory. Win2K AD is known to be slow and insecure. If you have Oracle on Solaris your data is secure and next step is to move user accounts to real user repository. It may be one of well-known LDAP servers. Try to read some materials on CERT Coordination Center (http://www.cert.org) which describe LDAP servers. After this you can choose the server which best suite your needs.

If you have Windows 2000 and Firefox 12, you won't receive anymore updates. Windows 2000 hasn't been supported for almost 2 years so you should update Windows if possible.

Adobe Illustrator CS2 Doest Not start Up! Tried Everything...

I have tried everything i can on my mac to fix this illustratorproblem. Illustrator freezes or stops loading or crashes or something at startup. I have downloaded the mac.dmg file"from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/534/cpsid_53468.html" but I don’thave any of the folder it describes such as the mappings or Unicode or anythingof the sort. I have also tried unstalling and reinstalling the entire suite and then just the illustrator program. i have tried other solutions I found onlinesuch as deleting fonts or disabling fonts, adding the folders I need, andnothing works. I have also tried creating another user account and it still does the same thing. I have called and asked Adobe and they refuse to help me becauseI have CS2 and not their newest programs. So I’m on my own here, I am willingto try anything please help me.

i'm having the same issue but not just with CS2. My CS which was left installed on my machine is not opening. I'm not getting an error msg, it just stops initializing after a few seconds and i have to force quit it. I tried downloading the CS4 trial. it refuses to open. I, like you, have unstalled and reinstalled the entire suite. i've uninstalled just illustrator along with all files anything to do with illustrator or adobe serial number verification. that didn't work. i kind of think if its a serial number issue the entire suite would have quit working. this has to be a bug with the last batch of updates but unfortunately for mac users there isn't a system restore like on pc, at least that i know of. i thought maybe it was a font issue so i restored my library to original mac system fonts only and deleted all the design fonts i use. still nothing. anybody at all have any ideas or suggestions your input would be wonderful. i've got illustrator on my mac book pro and its fine, but i havn't run the updates in a while. not going to until this is resolved. lady

When starting up Illustrator it just quits on me.
I already tried to
- reinstall Illustrator CS
- restarted my MacBook (Intel) 10.5.4
- dragged the illustrator file onto the Illustrator icon
Any ideas?

My iWeb site doesn't work for some PC Windows users.

My daughter and afew other users are having trouble getting to my iWeb site. I haven't yet narrowed it any particular release of Windows or Web Browser but it only fails for someone on a PC systems. Do they need IE6 or >. XP Professional? If the contents have jpegs and a movie. What applications are needed on the viewers computer i.e. Quicktime or CS2 Photo.

Movies dragged into iWeb require the QuickTime browser plugin to play them and a lot of PC users don't have it.
Flash is a more universal format but these won't work on portable devices like the iPhone/iPad.
