Illustrator won't export to Photoshop

When attempting to export an AI (CS4) file to Photoshop, I get "not enough memory" error. The AI file is only 1.3mb. I have over 100gb of freespace on my mac. I have no other programs open. I have continually restarted Illustrator to clear cache memory and restarted my machine.
Any help?

Illustrator has a maximum limit of raster size it can output. The main variables is uses to calculate this are artwork dimensions and output resolution. Whether anti-aliasing is checked on in the Export dialog also impacts this.
You could try creating the PSD at lower resolution, but a better option usually is to let Photoshop do the rasterization.
From Illustrator, save as PDF (or save as .ai with PDF compatibility turned on) and open that file in Photoshop.

It mentioned something about needing to register. Thank you.

    Hi Tina,
    Which OS are you using?
Sometimes this is caused when Mac preferences become corrupt and prevent Illustrator from reading them properly or scratch disk for Illustrator is not set properly. Mac preferences become corrupt when home space is filled to capacity or computer shuts down improperly. Illustrator preferences must be set before using the product for the first time or when preferences become corrupt.
    Solution 1
    Start Illustrator.
Click on "Illustrator > Preferences > Plug-ins & Scratch Disks".
From the options available for the "Primary Scratch Disk", choose "LocalScratch", and click "Ok".
Quit Illustrator and start it up again.
    Solution 2
Quit Illustrator. Move the following folders from your home space to the trash:
      Library/Application Support/Adobe
      Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS6 Library Settings
      Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS6 Settings
      Library/Preferences/com.adobe.illustrator.plist
The problem should disappear upon quitting and starting Illustrator after one of these solutions is applied.

  • Lightroom won't export to Photoshop

Hi, I just downloaded the 4.4 update for LR and now when I export an image from Lightroom to edit in Photoshop it doesn't work!! This had happeded before and they send me a link - I think it was the 4.3 update but Idon't remember - but it took forever to get it sorted out. I irgently need to fix this as I am editing a wedding and this will take me forever to edit now!!!!!

I too have this problem and i had it before in 4.0 or 4.3. Now that i have upgraded to 4.4 i have the same problem and i was too looking for the solution. I found a work around which is only a couple of steps instead of just hitting Command and E to send to photoshop.
Just right click in the image you are working on and then select Edit in and you will see photoshop but dont select it, click on Select Program or Open with (cannot remember what it is) and then select your version of photoshop. Once this is done, on your next image just do the same steps, right click on image, edit in and select the second Photoshop in the menu and it will open just fine.
I know its not a fix but its a work around. You can also do a clean install of 4.4 and i think that should fix it. (pain in the *** which i havent done and probably wont do for a while since i cant have lightroom down.
    Hope this helps.

I keep getting an error message when exporting from aperture to CS4, it is totally random, any clues greatly appreciated.

Sharing the exact text of the error message would save us the step of posting this reply.
What do you mean by "exporting from aperture to CS4"?  Are you using the Aperture command "Edit with Adobe Photoshop ... "?

  • Illustrator Won't Export Large File

Hi, using Illustrator CS. My Illustrator document size is 10,000 x 1920 pixels. I need to export from Illustrator at this size at 72 dpi but Illustrator says:
“Could not Export. Rasterized Image Exceeds Maximum Bounds for Save for Web"
I tried using “Export" and "Save for Web” but I get the same answer.
Can someone using CS 5 open a new document 10,000 x 1920 pixels and try to export it at 72 dpi and tell me if it works? Thanks.

Yep. The screen shot below is an artboard of the size you indicated exported at 150 dpi (hence the larger dims).

Same here. I've never had trouble with this function before.
It opens the Photoshop application with all the menus/windows, but it never opens the actual image I chose to work on.

  • Illustrator won't load .AI files...  Corrupt??  PDFFormat.aip required!

    Hello,
    SPECS
    Dell XPS M1350 / 2.4 GHZ INTEL 4 / 3 GB RAM / 220 GB HD / NVIDIA GEFORCE M8000 SERIES
    PURCHASED
Adobe Design Premium Edition.  Three months ago.
    PROBLEM
Just last night, I went to load Illustrator CS4 and it loaded just fine.  I went to open up an Illustrator file that I have been working on and it came up with the error "An unknown error has occured."  The error popped up twice and I pressed my only option, OK.  The file didn't open.  Usually I can open the .AI files or at least import them into Photoshop and now Photoshop just freezes and closes itself when I attempt to import an Illustrator file.  Now, I tried to open a new document in Illustrator.  Before I could type in my specs for the project, Illustrator came up with an error "Illustrator cannot create document.  Command cancelled."  Out of curiosity, I went to see if the rest of my Adobe products were working.  They were all fine, aside from the Illustrator-realted Photoshop issue.
I decided to re-install Illustrator.  I uninstalled it just fine and then installation went successfully.  However, now Illustrator will flat out not load, period.  It comes up with an error: "Missing Plug-In Required.  PDFFormat.aip missing."  I have conducted many searches since then to find out what the issue is and I have come up with nothing.  My thinking is that my version of Vista is not compatible, but that wouldn't explain why it ran flawlessly for three months before now.
As a result, all of my Illustrator files are corrupt.  My older version of Illustrator won't even open these files!  Nothing, not even Acrobat will read these files now.  Unknown errors all over the place.  I am sickened by the thought of the loss of all of my work.  I need these files!!  I need this program as well!  What is even stranger for me to understand is that the night before it worked fine and I used Illustrator without adding or changing a thing.  I worked for a little bit, then shut the lid of my laptop and went to bed.  That's it!
I can provide more details if necessary.
Thank you for reading-- and for helping!  I would greatly appreciate any advice I can get.  I need to get back to work, pronto!!
    Thanks again!

It is an unknown error and I do not think if they were working in the past that they are all of a sudden corrupt. It sounds to me like you will have to repair your permissions. Now I can tell you from experience that it sounds like Illustrator cannot access the various directories it has to and that seems to me like a permissions problem.
You will need some one familiar with Windows and Vista to tell you how to go about his but the problem here is that all the Windows users seem opposed to even considering this possibility and instead of even trying this approach they have even gone to the extreme of having the user reinstal their system.
So what I am writing is a suggestion and beyond that I wish you well.
But before I go it can also be a font cache problem and there are tools to clear those files as well this approach at least has had some acceptance.
    Good Luck.

  • InDesign won't open. Photoshop

InDesign won't open. Photoshop & Illustrator do. I tried to register my product (Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium) but it won't take my code.

Smilessarah what specific error message do you receive when opening InDesign CS6?  Also which operating system are you using?

  • Some photos won't export as versions

A proportion of photos from various projects won't export as versions, either JPGs or TIFFs. The files themselves aren't corrupt as I can open them in Photoshop and then save them as JPG or TIFF files or whatever I want. I though it might be library that was corrupt but I rebuilt the library and the probem still persists and with the same photos.
I have my library stored on a RAID system. I've stored it before on a RAID setup but always using Apple's formatting software to RAID the HDs together. This is a hardware RAID system so the computer reads it as 2TB when it's really two 1TB drives together. It is then formatted with the standard Apple DIsc Utility. This is the only difference from before and I've never had the problem until now.
Could this be the problem? Could fragmented files on this drive be the problem? Any suggestions welcome.

The way you have described your issues sounds like you are running a referenced library where you have easy access to the files through the finder. Is it possible that in the process of accessing files through the finder that some have been moved or had attributes changed? The way to identify this is by the badges that Aperture displays on an image, pg.291 of the manual see below.
To display badge overlays on images in the Viewer:
1 Do one of the following:
Â Choose View > Metadata > Customize (or press Command-J).
Â Choose Aperture > Preferences, then click Metadata.
    2 Select the Viewer checkbox.
3 From the Viewer Set 1 pop-up menu, choose a metadata view that includes badge
overlays. Some examples are General and Ratings, as well as Viewer-Basic and
    Viewer-Expanded.
    4 Close the Preferences window.
Badges are now visible in the Viewer.

  • Acrobat Pro won't export PDF to TIFF

My Acrobat X Pro won't export an engineering drawing PDF to a 1200 dpi TIFF. It says this image is too wide, and recommends I crop the image or lower the resolution. I do not wish to do either.  Why does acrobat care how wide my image is? I need it at 1200, and I need it whole and intact.  How do I get my TIFF image?

Use Photoshop. This is enormously outside the design and intention of Acrobat.

  • Lightroom JPEG export VS Photoshop Image Processor

    Hey guys:
Long time photoshop and lightroom user (long time user of all things Adobe). First post here in the forums. I did a search for my question but I think it was too specific, so it returned zero results.
My question is about Lightroom's JPEG export vs Photoshops Image Processor. When I export a RAW file to JPEG from Lightroom, the file size is freaking huge. The JPEG is as big as my original RAW file (~25mb). Settings are set to default - 100 quality. Everything else remains untouched.
However, when I use Photoshop's image processor (I launch it through Bridge, easier that way for me) and process the RAW images that way, my JPEGs are roughly 5-10mb in size. Settings in Image Processor are quality 10 and thats it. No actions being run or anything.
Can anyone shed some light as to why Lightroom exports JPEGs that are roughly 2-4 times the size of Photoshop's JPEGs? My initial thoughts are that the 100 quality setting in Lightroom is more like Photoshop's quality 12 (that always makes me think of Spinal Tap - "Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?" "These go to eleven.") Ideally, exporting out of Lightroom would be much easier for my workflow.
    Thanks in advance.

You are correct: LR Quality 100 = PS Quality 12
Despite LR having 101 Quality settings (0 to 100) it actually only has 12 Quality settings the same as PS 'Baseline Standard':

I keep a small copy of the above table taped to my monitor. I chose the numbers under the 'LR' column for the 12 steps (not AA's) to make it easier to remember. In actuality ANY number in the LR Range column will produce the same results for each step.
Under the 'Typical Reduction' column notice the small amount of reduction for PS 6 (LR 47-53%) Quality setting. If interested why AND why you probably shouldn't use PS 7 (LR 54-61%) Quality setting see this post:

  • Podcast won't export from Garageband to iWeb

    Hi all
Help appreciated with this. I do a two hour music podcast (www.whatyouwantradio.com also available at http://soundcloud.com/whatyouwant-radio) which is created in Garageband and then exported to iWeb for uploading to my website. I've been running this, with few problems, since April 2009.
Recently the garageband podcast won't export to iWeb. It's random, and I seem to have been able to bypass it by changing the filename slightly, or adjusting the quality at which it is exported (I like to export at 320mps for best quality - big files but no complaints from the 100 or so listeners. Could be more - who knows as I can't get stats from iTunes. But I digress). However, the most recent podcast, which is already available on Soundcloud, just won't export. It goes through the motions (mixdown etc.) but nothing appears on iWeb on the other side. No error message, nothing. I know that memory has also been an issue in the past but right now there is plenty to spare (5.37GB at last glance).
I'd really be grateful for some help on this, I'm at a bit of a loss - no error message, no clue. As I say, this podcast has been going for nearly three years and it's only recently I've had this problem.
    Cheers,

Just a further note on this. I tried a couple more times yesterday to export the file. Starting out with over 5GB of memory, by the time I had tried twice this had gone down by a couple of GB. Still no export. This morning I noticed some new files in the trash that were from around the time of the failed exporting:
Note sure if you can see that, but I'm guessing the files are something to do with the failed export? Does anyone have any thoughts? Either way, this problem is still annoying the **** out of me...

  • Canon CR2 Raw files won't open in Photoshop CS4

I'm using a Canon EOS 600D (aka EOS Kiss X5), Photoshop CS4 (ver 11.0.1) with Camera Raw 5.7.0.213.
CR2 Raw files won't open in Photoshop, though the thumbnails are clearly visible and open in Windows Explorer.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Yes, absolutely all of the quality and dynamic range is retained in the DNG, because it is still raw data.
Outside of upgrading to Photoshop CS5, which can open your files directly with Camera Raw 6.4.1, your only choice is the extra step of converting the .CR2 files to .DNG with the free DNG converter.
While you'll get all the quality your Camera Raw 5.x converter can deliver, you should keep in mind the Camera Raw 6.x converter has an entirely new, additional "2010 process" for converting raw images, which (depending on your settings) can actually deliver a higher quality conversion than the one you're getting with Photoshop CS4.  I think it's worth the cost of the Photoshop upgrade, personally.

  • Can`t open document on Illustrator but adobe reader and photoshop opens it, why?

Can`t open document on Illustrator but adobe reader and photoshop opens it, it is a problem with the text font Futura T-Bold. How to open it on Illustrator?

    I downloaded the file, and:
It is not a Photoshop PDF.
I get the same result attempting to open in Illustrator; mangled font substitution. That's because I don't have one or more of the exact fonts used in the document installed on my computer, and I suspect the same is true of yours.
The fact that it opens without issue in Reader and Photoshop is essentally meaningless, (or at least it's not an inidication that it also should open without issue in Illustrator, which is what your original post seems to imply). Reader displays the correct fonts because subsets of them are embedded in the PDF for use by Reader. Photohop just rasterises the whole page, so there is no font data needed.
If you had the fonts, you wouldn't get the substitution in Illustrator. It works that way for any PDF.
