IMac 17" White Intel inverter cable

I've replaced the LCD screen, but the cable, that comes out of the display and plugs into the inverter connector on the main circuit board, is to short. Is there an extension cable that I can purchase and where?

Is this it? Probably have to call to be sure anyway.

  • Display issues on Imac 20" - White - Intel 2.16 ghz.

My 20" Imac's (White - Intel 2.16) display has been having a major issue. It looks like only half of the pixels are working...there are small vertical lines across the entire screen. As a result, the display is darker than usual and it makes text appear blurry and hard to read. The problem started off intermittently, but now it is a constant problem. I've tried resetting the Color to Thousands instead of Millions and I've tried resetting the PRAM and of course the tried and true "hitting the top of the computer", but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions? Could my video card be going bad? It's the Radeon X1600 by the way.
    Thanks for your help.

The link posted by brado is for the previous generation of the iMac and the new iMac's are completely different even if they look similar. There is only one screw on the bottom of the computer and that is the ram access door.
In order to "split the case" you have to remove the glass that is covering the lcd and access the screws under the glass. I would just get a build to order 24 inch as it is easier then trying to do anything on new 20" iMac. Plus you will probably lose any warranty in the computer.

  • Help, reinstall SL on white intel imac

    Hi There,
I recently installed linux mint on a white intel core duo imac, and now I'm unabel to reinstall Snow Leopard.
at the time I installed mint. I didn't really care about the current osx installation, so i wiped it out, and installed mint.  It now seems like my white imac, doesn't think it's an imac.  It won't boot from any osx install dvd's, but will boot from other 3rd party bootloaders.  however, the keyboard doesn't work inside these 3rd party bootloaders, and thus I can't eject the drive, or even switch which os to boot/install.
So I'm kind of in a pickle., and would really appreciate any help.
    Thanks!

  • Hi8 Sony SVIDEO & Yellow, White, Red AV Cables into IMAC

I have a Sony CCD-TRV81 Hi8 camcorder with an SVideo and the AV cables with White, Red, & Yellow cables. How do I import my tapes into an IMAC?

no, these connectors just offering an analogue signal, a computer needs some digital input, for iM it is called dv ...
if your camera doesn't support a dv-out/firewire/iLink ( << all same), you have to handle it as any other anlogue video, as VHS, read here.... :

Intel OS X 10.7 iMac has white screen and three-alarm sound, won't start up

The 3 beeps during start-up are telling you that the RAM is bad.
If you can access the RAM modules, you may try taking them out and putting them back in, perhaps it's only bad contacts.
If that doesn't help, you'll need new RAM module(s).

  • LCD Inverter Cables... 4?

I took my iMac 20" 2 GHz aluminum apart the other day to replace a bad optical drive and upgrade the hard drive. When I took the display off, I forgot to mark on the inverter cables which went to which. There are 2 sets on the top and 2 sets on the bottom. Does polarity matter? Should I have marked which went to which before I just unplugged them? I figured they would have had some sort of system where you couldn't plug the wrong one into the wrong socket, guess not...

I'm typing from Brasil, sorry my English.
I have a iMac 21,5" Intel mid 2011 and I need to know if is possible I change the original 500Gb HD for a 512Gb SSD?
I intend to keep the original DVD driver and install the SSD in the same HD place.
If yes, where I find a tutorial about this?
And I will like to know if the 512GB Solid-State Drive Kit for Mac Pro is compatible with iMac.

Since the late 2009 iMacs came out, replacing the hard drive has caused the internal Hard Drive Fan to start running at around 6000RPM.
This is due to Apple replacing the external Hard Drive temperature sensor with a proprietary firmware and using the drives internal sensor.
Replacement drives do not contain the firmware to deliver temperature data on the temperature sensor cable.
When the iMac does not receive a good signal from the hard drive it puts the fan at full speed to protect the drive.
If you replace your drive, your iMac will initially seem fine, but soon the fan will begin to speed up to full speed. Resetting the SMC (System Management Controller) will have a temporary effect, but again the fan will speed up.
Fixes people have used in the past included:
Using smcFanControl and the terminal to set a MAX speed for the fan and writing scripts to start this after every sleep/restart.
Shorting the temperature sensor cable (Not a possibility on 2011 iMacs) this tricks the iMac into thinking the drives temperature is very low, hence slow fan speed.
Both these fixes are less then perfect and leave the drive in a dangerous situation with no protection from overheating.
Another option people try is other Fan Control software. These programs will not work for this particular issue as they often only control the base speed, and if they do control the fans actual speed they rely on the temperature reported by the sensor which is now incorrect.
    HDD Fan Control
HDD Fan Control works to fix this issue by reading the drives internal temperature using the S.M.A.R.T protocol and set the fans actual speed to a value good to protect the drive.
It runs at startup and continually to always control the fan correctly, prevent the loud fan noise and protect the drive from overheating
Instead of HDDFan Control, get the free SSDFan Control

  • IMac (3.4gHz Intel Core i7) shuts down when sleeps, then won't restart

Just bought a brand new 27" iMac (3.4gHz Intel Core i7) which shuts down when sleeps, then won't restart (ie completely dead).
In order to restart, I have to unplug the power cord from the computer, hold power key down for 10secs, replug in and it then starts up. I returned to the store and they spent a couple days letting it go to sleep etc and overnight and for them it was fine. Woke up no problems. They returned it to me yesterday.
So I set it all up again, left it overnight and this morning it was dead again. So now it leaves me to wonder if it's something I have plugged into it.
I have a new Seagate 3TB external hard drive hooked up using USB3.0. This is plugged directly into the back of the computer.
I also have a powered USB hub plugged into the computer which has regular USB stuff such as printer, graphics tablet and another external hard drive (this one is older LaCie 500gb, and have put it into a new USB 3.0 case as well for the arrival of the new iMac (this had an old firewire hard drive case). However this hard drive is switched off at the case and is not being used.
I believe it could possibly be the Seagate 3TB disk causing this problem, but it works fine during the day while I am using the computer, it's just when I either leave it at lunch time to go to a meeting or walk etc or overnight that I come back and it has shut down....leaving me to believe that it's due to the computer going to sleep.
Has anyone else had a similar problem with a Seagate drive? Today I'm conducting an experiment and heading off for lunch with both hard drives unhooked. If I come back and the computer wakes up from a click of the mouse or keyboard as it should, I will plug in one hard drive at a time and re-test. I will leave the Seagate for last, as I don't think it is the old LaCie disk (which is off).
For reference sake, I also have a NAS running off my network through Airport Extreme etc and have my old iMac hooked up to the network too, but don't believe this is the problem.
Initially I did put in some after market RAM (another 8GB) and though that might be the problem, but I removed and it still reacted the same way (plus store I bought it from again booted up fine and woke up fine at their shop after I had taken RAM out too).
Will keep this post updated with my next test (letting computer sleep without either hard drive in), but keen to hear if anyone has had any similar experiences with Seagate disks/cases and the new iMacs.
    Cheers,
    Kristin

    Hey kristinandmike,
I had a similar problem shortly after I bought my 27" iMac. Here is an excerpt from my discussion:
"As BDAqua suggested, I started the process of elimination by shutting down the externals and just leaving up one of the USB drives and using the computer until time to shut it off. After eliminating 2 of the 3 drives I figured it had to be the last one. That drive is a Seagate GoFlex Desk version that allows different bases with differing connectivity. I had previously used FW800 to connect but had switched to USB3 on the new computer. I went ahead and got a Thunderbolt to FW adaptor cable and switched this drive back to Firewire rather than USB3. So far so good."
For some reason the Seagate I was using didn't agree with the USB3 on the Mac.

  • How to replace the inverter cable? screen gone black in MacBook

    Hi
There is no apple service provider in my location. Can I replace the inverter cable without having to take the MacBook to an apple store? is it easy to do? and can I use any inverter cable? or does it have to be especially designed for Macbook?
I have a black Macbook. The screen used to go black sporadically, and now it has totally gone black, and I couldn't get it to work again.
    Any advice????
    Thank you

Your answer is most helpful and sincerely appreciated, Level 6
Looks like the cable in question being identical throughout "The Black Period".
Looking at it right now it seems easier to patch than waiting for a replacement.  Will report back if it wasn't.

  • How to wall mount imac 20 inch intel? Any body has tried

How to wall mount imac 20 inch intel? Any body has tried

The iMac 20" doesn't have a VESA-type mounting bracket on the back (the 24" one does). If you're brave and have the white plastic model, you can try [adapting an old iMac G5 mount kit|http://www.wikiela.com/wiki/Howto_wall_mount_a_Core_2_Duo_Intel_iMac_20_or17].
For other models, you can use the VESA adapter from [www.imacmount.com]. These are adapters that clamp a VESA-style mount bracket to the aluminum pedestal stand for the iMac. You can then attach the iMac (pedestal and all) to any VESA-compatible mount. Here's a picture of an 20" white iMac fastened to a wall using this method (same works for newer aluminum iMacs and the white 17" ones too):

  • Apple iMac 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (24-inch), how much ram?

How much RAm can i add into a Apple iMac 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (24-inch), anyone know?

And I do not see any specifications for a White iMac with a 24" screen that is 2.33GHz.
    But now I found it...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP28
You have what normally would have been a 2.16GHz model but with the made to order 2.33GHz upgrade. Memory is...
    1GB (2x512MB) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300), supports up to 3GB
officially. You have two slots, each supporting up to a 2GB RAM but officially Apple says 3Gigs is the max. Which is an odd number because normally I would expect to see something like 2Gig based on having 1G rams available at the time. However, since they spec 3GB that would imply that 2GB RAMs were around at the time, but they still specifically say the machine can only have 3GB (2GB + 1GB).
Many older systems can support more ram than their official specs due to larger RAMs being released after the support for testing new RAM was done. Apple specifically limiting you to a single 2GB RAM with the other having to be 1GB would seem to indicate there IS an issue with supporting a pair of 2GB rams.
So you can very safely go from 2GB to 3GB by replacing one of the 1Gig modules with a 2GB module. However I can't say for sure if it would work to go to 4GB or not.

For the "Arangements" option to appear, the external display must be turned on with the correct input selected and connected to the computer.  Then close system prefs, reopen, go to "Display" and "Arrangement" will be along the top.
