IMac clock in top right shows time Imac went to sleep briefly when waking

I have Lion which came with my iMac, this is my second iMac as my last one had a hardrive issue. Whenever I wake my iMac from sleep the display clock shows the time the iMac went to sleep until it connects to the Internet via wifi, has anyone experienced this issue? I had this happen now and then in Snow Leopard on my older iMac but it seems to have crept back in to Lion for me constantly.

  • IMac loses connection to network when waking from sleep

    Hi There,
We are a small mixed environment of Macs and PCs running on a Windows 2008 domain. One of 2 iMacs that now run Mountain Lion 10.8.5 is having problems when waking from sleep. One of our designers will go for lunch and the machine will sleep for about 30 to 40 minutes. Upon her return the iMac will kick her off of the 3 shares she usually logs into (2 are on Win2008 machines, and 1 is a MacPro running 10.6.8 Server).
If she has files open in any of the Creative Suite Apps, the app will crash and she will have to restart the whole machine. If no files are open then she can usually reconnect to the shares after a short while.  Obviously I told her not to leave any files open, but its causing her some headaches.
Its also creating srv errors (id 2012) on our domain controllers, when she tries to wake her machine.
This Imac is a late 2009, and we have a 2011 model that has no issues at all. Both are set exactly the same.
I have reset SMC, Pram, and rebinded to the domain, and searched through these forums quite a bit to no avail.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I am continuing to work on this issue, and have tried a number of things based on searching here and elsewhere.
And Lucky Me, I have been able to replicate this behavior on one of other Macs (imac 2011, on 10.8.5). I also see errors on 2 separate Windows file servers on the domain (Event ID: srv 2012).
Below I am posting what seems to be the relevant area of the log.

This is from the 2011 iMac, and I see something very similar to this on the 2009 machine.
I continue to think this is a software issue related to 10.8.5 and Adobe CS (CS5 on the 2009 machine and CS 5.5 on the 2011) as this appears to have come up only since the recent update.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • How to tell my iMac went to sleep?

I have a late 2009 27" i5 iMac and for the life of me I don't know if it's really going to sleep or not...
I have the screen set to go to sleep at 30 minutes and the computer to go to sleep in an hour, and the screen goes black... but when I go to wake it up it starts up instantly and I can't tell if it was "really" sleeping. When I am on wireless that also is just instantly there.
I looked around the the console logs, but didn't see anything stating it went to sleep.
    Any ideas?

Brilliant... never thought of the password thing. Worked perfectly. Thanks.

  • There appears a blue strip on the right top corner every time I unlock my phone or when I open an app. It's been four months since I got my 5s! Is something wrong with the screen?

I've been using my iPhone 5s for the past 4 months. Now suddenly, I've been seeing a blue strip on the right top corner of the phone. Should I be concerned about the screen? Is there anything wrong with my display? I'm still under warranty.

Take it to the Apple Store.

  • Why my iMac does not change picture when waking from sleep ?

My iMac has Yosemite installed, I have tried to kill the system preferences in the library but it did not solve the problem.
I restarted, PRAM, repaired system permissions, log on off, etc. and nothing, nada !
It used to work without problems, changing the picture on my desktop every time the computer was waken up.
What it could be wrong ?
I have noticed that the CPU is now above 55% most of the time and iStat says that SGProtocol Service is constantly in 99%. I don´t have a clue what that means.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rod

    OK. I found the solution.
The computer changes the picture after sleep is activated from the power button but no from a hot corner, like it used to do. Obviously is a bug.
I ruled out the iStat, SG Protocol and high CPU, which are not related with the problem.
It is not a big deal, now I set it to change the image every hour, and it works !
    Thanks anyway.

  • My imac has a gray screen when waking it up from sleep mode. about 9 months ago, I installed OS X Maverick.

This is the second time this has happened, since installing OS X (9 mos. ago). (I can't recall the fix from the last incident.) Upon waking the pc up from sleep mode, I get a gray screen. Nothing works except using the Command and P & R keys to get to "reinstalling OS X", to no avail. What do I need to do to get it back to normal?
My imac is a 21.5", mid 2011 item.

Those keys do not reinstall OS X. To do that:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
COMMAND-OPTION-P-R keys resets the PRAM. OS X keyboard shortcuts.

  • My imac goes to sleep even when in use

i ran the hardware test and got this message:logic board-error code 2 STH/1/2 CPU T-Diode
    what should i do/

This is not only a logic board problem.
I had the same exact problems as you and have even got the same exact message. I ended up having to get the whole motherboard replaced because of one very simple but troubling problem.
The motherboard is designed as such where Apple put the the temperature sensor running from the hard drive right next to the CPU processor. Over time, the high heat of the CPU processor causes the plastic/rubber surrounding the wire to become brittle and even melt. When this happens, the system gets a bad reading from the hard drive and thusly causes a louder, faster fan noise; and eventually, the computer starts to fall asleep even while in use.
Simply put, you will probably need to have your mother board replaced. Contact Apple with your error code, and explain the problem carefully to them because it is not in the usual problems they have faced. I had my motherboard replaced at the end of April and it seems to be running fine for now.

  • After a sleep period my iMac desktop background disappears, and when waking small segments reappear scattered on the screen. What's happening.

Running the latest upgrade of Mountain Lion and experience this problem. Would like some explanation of cause and solution.

The reply addresses a different problem than I am experiencing. Log out was not enabled on my computer.  I have tried the usual strategies: shutting down, disconneting power, reset the Pram and ran preferences repair from disk utilities.  It is not every time waking from sleep that this phenomenon is happening, but it has been as often as 3 times a day.  I usually click on preferences, desktop/screensaver, change the picture which then fills the screen properly, and then change it back to Galaxy.  That geves the right look, but it does not prevent recurrence of the problem.  This has been happening for 5 or 6 days now.  Once before the recent OS update, and several times after.  Thanks for the reply.  Any other ideas will be welcome.

  • IMac went to sleep and refuses to wake

Just bought my iMac this afternoon!
Was working fine until I left the computer idle for 30 minutes, and now, the screen is black. When I rebooted the sound rings but nothing on the screen.

Would appreciate some help! Thank you

  • Top right battery icon does not show battery usage

So over the weekend I did not charge my iPhone, because the icon always said I had full battery life. I believed it because I never made a call, listened to music/video or surfed the net. It basically stayed in sleep in my pocket both days.
I get to work monday, pull it out to listen to music and I get the full screen battery icon showing the battery is dead with the plug and lightning bolt icons under it, then it turns off on its own. If I turn it on again, same deal.
I get home, hook it up to my PC and charge it, it works fine.
Today i've been listening to the iPod all day and surfing the net on EDGE and the battery icon in the top right shows full battery. To test I turned WIFI on for the past few hours to check and it's still showing full battery.
Basically just the battery icon in the top right isn't recognizing the battery being used. My Usage stats in Settings are also blank for Time Since Last Full Charge.
    Background info:
Refurbished iPhone bought directly from ATT, came with 1.1.1, immediatly upgraded to 1.1.4
    I've tried hard reboots.
I keep push e-mail and WiFi off at all times. WiFi comes on very rarely and only for short amounts of time.
I keep the phone connected to my PC overnight, but the PC does not go into any sort of sleep mode(ruling out not charging overnight)
I'm going to go home tonight and restore the phone to see if that helps, but I wanted to see if this is hardware related or software. This just started this weekend and i've had the phone for a few weeks now, and other than some short battery life at the beginning when I would keep wifi and push e-mail on a lot, or the random Safari closings, no other issues.

    DOrk4L,
Have you tried re-calibrating the battery? To re-calibrate it, let the battery drain completely and then charge it fully. You should see correct battery usage after that.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • How to get a contact photo appears like in iphone ad (small on top right corner) when dialing or receive a call?

Hello everybody, I just want to make any contact photo appears in right top corner as appears on iPhone Ads (small - Top right corner), I mean not Full screen.  when I make or receive a call??

    Hi,
It comes up with a Small Contact image as it is Linked to the Facebook or Twitter Account.
But if you edit the Contact and Upload the Image its not possible to get the Small Contact Image.
A Contact needs to be linked to an Account.
You can signin to Facebook and Update the Facebook Contact through:
SETTINGS > FACEBOOK > Turn ON Contacts > UPDATE CONTACTS.
    Then,
Go To CONTACTS > GROUPS > Select FACEBOOK.
You Phone Contact will get Linked to the Phone Contacts with Small Contact Images.
    Check It....
    HOPE THIS RESOLVES YOUR ISSUE.

  • I have lost the green tick next to the broadband symbol top right hand of screen in safari

    Hi
Have lost the green tick in the top right hand corner next to the broadband symbol when I am in Safari.
Posted this yesterday - have not had response.
Perhaps some of you guys find it too easy - but I need to get it back - please help?

Good job. The is what we call the Wi-Fi icon or "menulet" or more properly known as "menu extra".
In any event I don't know what would have created a green icon, and I'm not convinced it is necessary to indicate you have broadband working.
By any chance does it happen to look like this:
Have you checked System Preferences for something you may have installed? Some of them have options to display its status in the "menu extra" area. Perhaps it became un-selected.

hello i purchased a movie recently and it shows in my Itunes library but will not transfer to my ipod. It has the Icloud icon in the top right hand corner of the cover and if i click on play it starts to download from Icloud again and it does this each time i wish to play it, the same now happens to all my purcased movies which of course uses additional ISP download allowance. Before the recent update and lay out of Itunes this didn't happen i just purchased a movie and downloaded it then synced it to my ipod and enjoyed it. But now this latest movie purchase will not download to my ipod. I have sent the problem to Itumes and if  there is answer i havent received it. Appreciate any advice
    regards john

    Hello hotsone,
You may need to download a lower resolution version of the movie in order for it to sync to your iPod.
