IMac display goes out during Install

Hi All;
I have an iMac G5. While installing Leopard, the screen goes dark, and is unresponsive to keystrokes to bring it back. The installation is still taking place, as I can hear the DVD being accessed, I ust cannot see the install screen. What is happening here?
Carcass

How long has this install taken? Interrupting an install can cause it to fail, and it can also corrupt your directories. If you feel that the install has failed, eject the DVD, reset your SMU and your PRAM, repair permissions and try again.

  • How to fix everything when power goes out during install? [SOLVED]

last night I was installing kde and during the install process the power went out. I tried uninstalling kde, but pacman said dependencies were missing (I need dependencies to remove stuff?), so I tried reinstalling the kde group and that seems to have worked.
What is the best way to recover from something like this and how can I be sure everything is now fixed?

you can skip pacmans dependency checks with the argument -d.
as far as i know, you can't fix files that were destroyed by a power outage.
in my experience, it's rather rare that power loss destroys files (provided you use a stable file system).
usually it's sufficient to do a thorough file system check with the repair option enabled (don't do this while the filesystems are mounted or at least mount them read-only). usually you can invoke such a file system check with shutdown -Fr now.

  • 21.5 iMac display goes black

brand new out of the box iMac purchased late 09... ran fine until i did the updates ... now the system acts like it goes to sleep but wont wake up. display goes black. restarts are iffy at best. i was able to get the system back up by unplugging for an hour and then restart. it did go down again. Hardware problem? or video driver issue? oh yeah ... display will flicker sometimes and seems dim also. any help appreciated.

    Hi rjonsson;
I suggest you take it back to Apple and ask them to fix it. You really should not have to mess with fixing a brand new machine. Beside if this turns into a repeating problem you have started the documentation trail.

  • Imac displays I have aperture installed but I do not have the serial

My imac displays that I have Aperture loaded but I do not recall loading. I do not have the serial # or information required for opening. How can I find the information?

is Aperture asking for a serial number? Maybe you installed the Aperture Trial version some time ago, but there is no longer a way to obtain a serial number to unlock the Trial. Aperture does not come preinstalled with any mac System. If you want to use it, you have to buy it from the AppStore. The new versions bought from the AppStore will be tied to your AppleID.

  • Upgrades to 31.0 times out during install

    Hi,
We are trying to update our clients to vers 31.0, the update seems to timeout during install. This appears to be related to the proxy server, is it possible to get a whitelist of sites to be added?
    Thanks,

    After, run the full installer.

  • IMac Display Freaking out

My wifes iMac (Intel 2.66 GHz/1 G Ram/ 20" display)has recently began to freak out with numerous blank blocks on the screen (up to 12) opening up when switching applications. It doesn't happen when working in an app, only switching between apps. The blocks can not be closed on the screen, they are frozen. You must shut the computer down and reboot to continue working. Sort of like Expose going nuts. Has anyone run into this situation? Any advise?

Did you try resetting PRAM as a first step? Some display settings are stored in PRAM.

  • IMac drive spits out Apple Install discs...

All of a sudden, out of the blue, my iMac won't accept my Apple install discs, or my iLife '06 discs. It will accept some other discs, like Office 2004, but won't touch the Apple install or ilife discs.
I tried the same discs on my mini, and they all work. I spoke with an apple tech, and have tried various things, like resetting nvram and pram, without any luck.
I'm now going to try to boot in safe mode, an startup manager and try. If that doesn't work, I'm just going to request a new drive.
Anyone else ever have this happen?
    Bryan

    Hi Bryan,
I'm afraid I don't know which brands of drive cleaning discs are available in your part of the world. I've used various 'dry" cleaning discs over the years though without any problems. Most have a little "brush" on one section of the disc.
I'd look for a good quality product that specifically says that it is Mac compatible , if possible, though as many can even be used in audio or "stand alone" DVD situations, this shouldn;t be all that critical.
Be wary of any "wet" cleaning systems , or ones which look as if they may have problems with a slot loading drive though.
Its not a bad idea to run one of these every now and then BEFORE problems arise. You can get to a situation where the drive becomes so dirty that it can't even read the necessary info on the cleaning disc itself. I run one every three months, just to be on the safe side.
    Cheers

  • Yosemite wont install on my iMac and every time i restart my iMac it goes back to installing

I had an iMac that was running really slow and had lots of useless junk on it so I decided to get the newest operating system and have everything erased. I went ahead and began to install Yosemite but every time the situation would result in the same way, "There was a problem installing Mac OS X Try reinstalling." I tried many times to go into recovery mode but it would just take me back to the Yosemite installation. Please help me and Thank You...

Exactly which iMac model do you have? The following explains how to find it.
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Post the result here:
To post screen shot do this:
Press COMMAND-SHIFT-4 which will change the cursor to crosshairs.
Hold down the mouse button and use the crosshairs to select the part of the screen you wish to capture.
Release the button and the image will be saved to your Desktop.
Click on the Camera icon in the toolbar of the forum message editor.
Drag the image onto the Choose File button and click on the Insert button.

  • One Month Old Imac Display Bleached out

The Imac is one month old, base model upgraded to 8Gb RAM. Not running anything too heavy. Recently the display became 'bleached out', for example I cannot see the black lines between columns on the Finder, and the icons seems washed out. in addition I cannot connect a second display as when I press detect displays, none are detected. I have done the usual resets and run an online hard ware test, nothing has changed and the ahrdware is running normally apparently. Have you any sugegstions please as to how to return things back to normal?
    Thanks
    Mike
PS also recalibrated the monitor but again no change

    Hi
I had the same problem and found the answer here :
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/602429?start=0&tstart=0
    Which suggested this :
System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing > look near the bottom, there should be a Contrast adjustment slide, all the way left is normal...
Worked great for me - not sure how it was adjusted in the first place, but all is well now.

But after I installed the boot camp 3.0 from Mac OS X 10.6 disc and pressed the restart buttom, the computer restarted and displayed a blue screen before entering the Windows and then reboot again automatically.
Should I use the Windows 7 installation enabler before installing Windows 7?

  • Network Name not going online during Install

I have 2 servers connected to a Fibre SAN both running Server 2012 in a Failover Cluster. I have been trying to install the first of a Failover SQL 2012 Cluster. Everything installs properly until it gets to the final phase of the install and the Network
Name will not go online. I have removed and reinstalled many times with no success.
If I leave the install alone it will eventually go online however when that happens and I try to install the second node it gets to the Services part of the install and does not have one of the accounts in it. It is set as read only and I cannot change it
so I cannot continue the install.
Here is the log file I get after the initial install, I see nothing in it to point to the problem. I have tried manually creating the server in AD, in DNS etc.

Just installed Snow on a Mac Mini and a first gen Intel MacBook Pro. In both cases I lost the video part way through. On the Mac Mini I had to do a restart and the install picked up where it left off. The MacBook Pro had a screen image but no monitor back light, so I had to use a flashlight to go through the install process again in order to see the cursor and screen instructions because I interrupted the install with a power button restart. If you experience a black screen but can just barely make out something on the screen, DO NOT panic and decide to restart. Get a bright light on the screen and you should be able to see the progress bar after you wake up the screen dimming. Before you install set your screen dimming to never. Hope this helps.

It happened this morning again. Attached a picture I took of my MacBook when it went dark. I have to close the lid to sleep and wake up again to regain brightness.

  • Errors out during Install

    Hello:
I am trying to install 10g on a W-XP Professional. I chose basic enterprise install. After copying the files, it comes up with an error. When I said "Ignore" it came back after a while and said that "Oraclient10.dll" was missing and that it could be rectified by re-installing. Which I did and it errors out at the same stage of installation.
The first error occurs when it is trying to install Oracle Services for .Net.
    Help!

Could you post the error that you initially encountered? The one that you told it to ignore.
    Kind regards,

  • Display drops out during capture, but capture is ok

While capturing vhs video thru a Canopus ADVC-100 converter into imovie HD, the screen occassionally turns blue (vhs video drops out) with the "camera playing" message on screen. The currently capturing "clip" counter stops momentarily, but resumes normal counter actions when the video reappears on the screen.
I let the capture run uninterupted. When I check the capture, everything is there with no dropouts as I would assume was happening? Any idea?
I'm capturing to an external FW hd (Lacie d2 250) with min 100 gb free space.

It is just that the display software cannot keep up with all the other demands on the processor. Try killing all other applications and emptying caches.
As you observe, it is not really a problem.
