IMac freezes with every other click

I am new to the community and hope to find help for a big problem.
I run OS Yosemite 10.10.1 on my 2010 iMac 2.93 i7 (upgraded to 12GB RAM a year ago).
For the past 5 days it gives me the colorful wheel of death almost with every second click. I cannot open a program or search a site or move a file without the iMac freezing up. Just writing these two sentences, it froze twice for about 45 seconds, which is the average, but it can take up to 2 min before the Mac responds again. I have not changed anything on my iMac knowingly in the past few weeks.
I closed every program I don't need, shut down dropbox, Google Chrome, and any program I can imagine slows down processing speed. I cleaned my desktop, made sure I have 20% space on the HD. Since I am always suspicious of the Microsoft Office programs, particularly Outlook, I logged in with a different user name that does not use these programs. Nothing helps. I used Magician, Disk Utility, Activity monitor to see if anything looks odd, but all seems normal.
I am not that Mac literate, so I just discovered the Console that seems to log error events. This is what the last 5 min look like; it tells me I had 4000 events logged yesterday. Is this normal?
Please if anyone can advise what to check, change or do to stop this nuisance that would be awesome.
Thank You!

Basic guess:
Under utilities you have to run the disk doctor to see what is wrong with either your hard drive or backup drive - stop time machine first & check the backup drive first as that is the one that may be damaged.
Hopefully someone is online now who can post the details -
Another option is to take it in for repair to apple store or authorized apple dealer (if on warrantee of any kind)

  • IMac freezes with beachball

    Hi,
I sometimes have a situation where, during use of Logic, all of a sudden my iMac freezes with the famous beach ball. Only the mouse pointer still moves when moving the mouse, and the harddisk temperature monitor util still shows changing temperatures every couple of second. I have the impression that the harddisk become unaccessable; it happened twice while bouncing a song. A couple of months ago I had this lockup situation a couple of times in 2 or 3 days, and since it hasn't happened until today. Weird! The only solution is to press the power button for 5 seconds (at least, couldn't get it to life any other way).
Is this a known Logic issue???
By the way, the HD temperature is around 55 degrees Celcius. Is this normal??
    Thanks, Jaap

Yep, only with Logic so far...
You might want to boot from the install DVD and run a verify check to see if there are any errors on the drive, also would be a good idea to repair permissions.
Doubtful it's the drive temperature... it could even be the program that's monitoring the temperature causing the problem. Logic punishes almost every section of a computer, memory, processor, hard drive...etc. It's best to not have anything else running in the background if possible.
How much memory do you have?
Also... if you're working with a lot of audio tracks, the system drive in not your best choice for recording.
OSX does a considerable amount of disk writes on it's own.

  • My ipod keeps on freezing with every two songs.

my ipod keeps on freezing.i have read the other post but mine is different.recently every time i listen to my ipod it keeps on freezeing on the song list with every other song as in one song would work..the3n the next it would freeze and nothing can unfreeze the screen.i tried resetting the ipod and it happens again and again.does anyone know how i can fix my ipod so that i dont have to resent it everytime it freezes like every 5 mins?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Nothing will print. My printer works with every other program, but not this one!

Nothing will print. My printer works with every other program, but not this one!

I see the printer, in blue when I click on the hardware tab. Actually there are 2 things listed that have to do with the printer.
    The first one is called:
HP Photosmart Prem C410 series (DOT4PRIN.... and under the Type it is listed as IEEE1284.4...
    The next is listed as:
HP Phototsmart Prem C410 series and under the Type heading it says Printers.
I don't know which one to pick.  So when I choose the name highlighted in blue, what do I do to change the name?

  • HtmlText anchors respond only on every other click.

    Hi,
I'm using Flex 3.5 and I have a Text object with an anchor set in the htmlText property. The link only works on every other click. Is this a known problem in Flex?
    Thanks!

I've done a simple case and I've found out that I get this problem when the htmlText is inside a TabNavigator object. If it's outside it works as expected.
This is what is going on...

I think it's a focus issue. You have to click once on the link for the tab to gain focus. Is there a good work around for this?

  • Acrobat XI freezing with every task

Can anyone offer any insight as to why the newly downloaded Acrobat XI might be freezing with every task? I just downloaded it onto a Windows 7 machine from the Creative Cloud for teams. It freezes (spinning circle, nothing in the program operable) particularly when I use any of the Drawing Markup tools. But it has also frozen a few times just trying to scroll to the next page, or save. Any ideas? Is it maybe a graphic card issue? Any help appreciated, thanks!!

I have Acrobat Pro XI and it rarely if ever crashes (Windows Vista).  I manipulate things in the Reading Order, Content and Tags Panel frequently. So I'm afraid I can't solve this one.  However I would suggest Repair Acrobat Installation whenever there are problems.    The interaction between the reading order panel, contents panel and tags panel is a bit wonky.  Move something in one, and it will often move around in the other.  Sometimes it's not possible to get them all in perfect alignment.  If your Pages are set to "Use Document Structure" the AT should use the Tags Panel.  So when I can't get the Contents and Tags Panels to Match I defer to the Tags panel.
When things disappear check in the Content Panel. Items at the top of the Panel are beneath those lower down--like layers.  You can move things around (shading and borders in tables are what I have the most problem with when running Commonlook and with files saved as PDF from MS Word.) I don't have the opportunity to work in Indesign much. Most of our deliverables come as Word files.

  • I downloaded a "free" program online and now with EVERY mouse click I get a pop-up Ad or Ad window opening. How do I get rid of them?

I downloaded a "free" version of FLIP4MAC, and now I have Ads popping up with EVERY click of the mouse... How do I get rid of them?
And no, I haven't turned on TimeMachine yet, so I can't "turn back the hands of time."
Also, I cannot simply "block pop-ups" because other sites which utilize pop-ups are necessary to my daily activities.
Oh, and I have an iMac 24", Early 2009 with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Memory RUNNING OS X Yosemite.

    First try
Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac

  • IMac freezing with increasing frequency

For the last couple of months my iMac has been crashing with increasing frequency.
The crashes manifest as freezes and seem to random. Sometimes they happen when I'm doing Finder operations, sometimes in Safari, sometimes Mail, sometimes iTunes, sometimes any of a dozen other apps I run regularly. These freezes never seem to leave behind a crash report. Also, after I do a hard boot, sometimes the first one or two attempts to restart also result in a freeze during the startup sequence. Sometimes I only get to the startup gear, sometimes I get to the blue-screen right before the login, sometimes I get as far as half of my stickies popping up and then I freeze again. I've tried Disk Utility -> Repair Disk many, many times (normal SOP for me following a hard boot) and there are never any errors reported. Disk Permissions will occasionally find a file or two that needs to be repaired, but that never seems to make a difference. I've also run the hardware check dozens of times; no errors. I've even fsck'ed a few times to see if that reported any problems that Disk Utility didn't - all to no avail.
I've tried killing all non-essential processes and turning off all of my Login Items, but this didn't help either.
Sometimes I'll restart and everything will be just fine for days, maybe even a week or two, then all of a sudden, freeze after freeze after freeze.
Today has been particularly bad. I haven't been able to keep things going for more than about half an hour. That is, until I restarted in safe mode. In anticipation of possibly having to take my machine into the local Genius Bar (or maybe having to try a clean install), I decided to clean up my desktop and backup a bunch of critical files, etc.. Also, I'm drafting this message in safe mode, since the last two times I tried to do it from a regular boot, Safari froze the machine.
So far, no freezes in safe mode. However, no sound and other restrictions, so this is obviously not a particularly useful mode to operate in...
Before I go any further I should mention that there is another symptom that may or may not be related, but I suspect that it is. Sometimes windows get blocky noise in them. Lots of little rectangles which seem to be copied from elsewhere on the screen. If I force the window to refresh, everything will look OK again, but it might happen again immediately or it might take a while to happen again.
My initial gut reaction was that there was a memory problem in the display RAM, but as I said, the hardware check has not found anything and I tried it again, and again.
So far I have not associated these blocky windows directly with a freeze. In other words, the two events seem to be independent, though they could very well have the same root cause.
Well, that's all I can remember off the top of my head.
Frankly, I getting to be pretty sure that the problem was with the hardware until I booted in safe mode and am not seeing the problem.
I would appreciate any diagnostic advice that anyone would care to offer.

Unfortunately I have had this very experience with freezing/crashing iMacs at TWO different jobs and TWO different computers. In each case the Macs where brand new, out of the box. The first time in 2006, I had started a new job and convinced my boss (a die hard PC fan) that macs where the way to go in the art department. Reluctantly he plunked down for a 24" iMac. Within a couple of days, the crashing and freezing started, randomly at first. Then every few hours-regardless of the application load. Finally, it would run for three or four minutes, than Kaput. Applecare sent a tech who said it was a processor problem. With the processors swapped, the freezing stopped for a few days, then returned with a vengeance. Not only was it a nightmare- seeing as I had sworn up and down to the Admins that Macs where great, but our workflow in the department virtually stopped at this point. Within a week they had me back on a wonky PC. Suffice it to say, my tenure at that company was a short one. The next time about a year later was at a print shop. We had migrated our software and files from our Macbook Pro, Mac mini and g5 (which strangely enough was really slow) to a brand new 24" iMac and within three days, the whole gamut of crashing to complete freeze. It cost the company roughly
$50 000 in lost file processing that week. In both cases we had tried everything from moving the computers to a cooler room, fresh install (Tiger in the first case, Leopard in the second), you name it.
At this point I decided that I should find some work in Graphic Design that just doesn't depend on Macs. I also know a slew of people (industry & personal) with a frightening number of horror stories about their iMacs. All with the same symptoms. This has REALLY shaken my faith in Apple. And even tho I'm a fan and love the OS, I honestly don't think I'd invest in one without a serious overhaul of the line.

  • IMac Freezes in everything other than Windows 7

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My iMac was running Snow Leopard and Windows 7 via Boot Camp successfully with no issues until yesterday. The iMac froze in Snow Leopard and I had to manually reboot by holding down power button.
Since then OS X won't run, Windows is still OK. If I select OS X the iMac freezes on the grey screen. I've tried safe mode and still no joy as it freezes on the grey screen as well.
If I place my OS X 10.6 install disk in the dvd drive it reads the disk, stays on the grey screen and after 2 minutes I then get the Kernel panic screen to reboot. Tried on a 10.5 Install disk in case disk was the problem but it does the same thing (windows install disk works fine, so DVD player OK).
Have also reset PROM and NVRAM. Rebooted machine using cmd S into Linux to check disk and it found no issues.
Anyone got any other ideas. I have a full time machine backup so trashing the hard disk if I could would be OK.

Just managed to get the cmd v command working but only with placing the OS X install disk in. It shows a long list of directories and folders that it tries to find the number of files but it can't count due to missing folder.
I'm wondering if Windows 7 has done something. I would love to get this machine in a position so I can wipe the whole disk as if new and reinstall OS X but as I mentioned before I get the Kernal panic if I place an OS X install disk in

  • IMac freezes with Halo UB game - after graphics firmware update

    Hi
The graphics firmware update works good - the couple of things I found to freeze it work fine now.
But I have found one way to get the freeze and black screen plus the ASIC error in the system.log.
Open Halo UB 2.0.2 and set the video options to use 1920x1200. When I have it at 1344x840 or whatever, the game is fine.
But when I try to set Halo UB to 1920x1200, I get the freeze thing. Halo says it has to test the new video settings and says to hit escape if no dialog appears. Once I accept that, then the screen goes black and the freeze hits.
So I'm happy that everything's working good for all the other normal causes of the freeze. Hopefully Apple can now track down this issue.
Anyone else out there have Halo UB to try this out?
Maybe it's my Halo UB install. Mine was a fresh install this morning though.
    good luck!
    let me know...
    thanks!

Freezes with Jedi Academy as well, freezes after iMac update, 10.5.1 install, Firmware Update (which i had to do with Pacifist)...
just Freezes and everything needs to be restarted, haven't tried the HALO thing yet, not sure if i want to push my luck...

  • Call Audio On and Off with every other call

My wife both have the Samsung Intensity 3. We like the phones but every since getting them the call sound only comes on every other call whether going out or receiving. Even just yesterday I was stuck in the desert with limited reception and had to call 911 and the call sound wasn't on which was awful when I would only have sporatic 30 second windows of service.
This is my second new Samsung Intensity II after they replaced it 2 weeks ago and I don't know what the problem is. As I said, my wife has the exact same issue. And it happens everywhere we go not just at home.
I don't know what to do other than get another phone model.

No the sound comes back on. On the second attempt at calling the sound would be on. My previous device did not have this issue.
Since this problem was constant and we couldn’t any longer to resolve the issue we opted to get a different device. We switched to the LG Extravert and now the issue does not occur at all. The phone works exactly like it should.
So I don’t know why the Samsung Intensity III was having so many issues, especially after getting another new Intensity after the first one did the same thing.

  • H67MA-E35 (B3) - Freeze during every other boot with USB IR receiver plugged in.

Hi, I have an HTPC with an MSI H67MA-E35 (B3) motherboard. I also have a Hama VRC-1100 remote (Microsoft Media Center compatible), which has its own USB infrared receiver. When it's plugged in and I turn on the PC, it won't boot. It gets to the Windows boot screen and freezes before the logo itself starts to form. I have to do a hard reset, then it boots fine. If I reboot the PC, I get the same problem and have to hard reset again.
The IR receiver has the latest drivers and I've tried plugging it into different ports to no avail. I've also tried changing the BIOS settings to resume using OS instead of the BIOS, but then the remote cannot wake the PC up.

Apologies, the MSI Live Update tool says I have an MS-7680 motherboard with a B.90 BIOS. A scan for updates shows no new BIOS versions. Here are the rest of my specs:
Intel Celeron G530 (Sandy Bridge S1155)
    MSI H67MA-E35 (B3)
4 GB of Kingston DDR3 1333 MHz RAM (2 sticks, running at 1066 MHz)
nVidia GT 430 with 1 GB VRAM (Asus ENGT430 DC SL/DI/1GD3, fanless)
40 GB Intel 320 Series SSD
Western Digital Green 1.5 TB HDD (WD15EARS)
    Samsung BD-RE (SH-B123L/BSBP)

  • My Early 2008 iMac freeze with no apparent reason

I have an Early 2008 iMac (2.66GHz Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM).
Since installing Lion, sometimes the computer freezes without apparent reason.
The only thing I'm sure is that this is NOT the same as the Quicktime video problem – I wasn't watching a Quicktime video, nor a Flash website when it froze. Actually, today happened while I wasnt' doing anything: the computer was on, but I was at launch.
Anyway, what happens is really strange: the screen freeze, I can't do things like change volume, but the mouse still works – albeit without producing results on screen such as dock magnification etc. Also, while the computer was frozen a Time Machine backup occured as scheduled, and I was able to stream my computer's music to my iPhone using the Home Sharing feature.
The clock also remain frozen (at 12:51), so I looked at the logs and this is what I found:

At this point I restarted the computer using the power button.
For the record, a few months ago I replaced the hard drive thinking it could be the problem – good thing I needed more space anyway because it happened twice AFTER I replaced it.
    Any help?

Welcome to Lion, I have 10.7.4 and this has been a problem every two weeks or so since 10.7.1. Fun.

  • IMac Freezing after every 2-4 days (randomly)

Hi folks, I recently bought a 2014 iMac (21.5) inch 16GB machine. I'm going batty with it randomly freezing (beach ball) once every 2-4 days for no apparent reason. I've even looked at console logs and can't figure out. I've resetted SMC/PV(whatever), even reinstalled Mavericks (using a clean bootable drive). We use the iMac for two main purposes: Plex Media streaming (once a day really) and we use Juniper VPN to connect to our corporate network (which explains why you see juniper there)
    Any help?

  • IMac Freezes with opening of Mail

My iMac has been working great for the past four years, but recently it has been freezing up a lot. The internet won't work, most notably Safari, but the other application, such as word, freeze as well. There are two emails in my mail account that will not delete and instead turn grey in the inbox. When I click to open the emails they show no message but just a sender address. One is from Macy's and one is from Finish Line. Do you think these could have anything to do with my iMac issues or is it something else?

Try repairing your hard drive with disk utility, also repair your permissions.  If you are still have problem you need to check your CPU and your RAM usage in activity monitor.  Also check your remaining hard drive space you should have at a minimum 10% or more.
