IMac G5 with Built-In iSight - System Freezes

Hi,
I have the new model iMac G5 that is now consistantly freezing. When I say freezing, I get the spinning wheel and nothing is accessable. I have to hold down the power button to reset it. I have called Apple and reset NVRAM, clear the cache's, etc and it is still happening. I search and it seems that others are seeing similar freeze problems. Is there potientially a hardware problem? I was running 10.4.2 and just upgraded to 10.4.3 and that did not help.
Anyone else with a new generation iMac seeing similar problems?

Just to follow-up on this thread, it ended up being a bad logic board. After working with Apple and disabling most of the sleep features, like putting the HD to sleep, it seemed to work OK .. but just for a day. However, I came home the next day and the screen was black and the fan was running hard. I shutdown the system with a hard reset and that was it. It would not boot normal and after about 5 minutes of leaving it on, got a weird message which apple said it was hardware. For anyone else, I started to get the spinning color wheel, next the bluetooth was not responding right during login and then loud fans. Hopefully, this will help someone else if they have similar problems.

Since the update I cannot use iChat with video or voice the app just hangs and I have to force quit iChat.
I can see the camera working if I bring up preferences in ichat and text chat still works..

Using a different webcam with Intel iMac with built-in isight cam.

Hi...I hope someone can shed some light on this.
I have an intel core duo iMac 20 with built-in isight.
I use Yahoo Messenger (the new version) and have no problems getting my isight to work with it.
For most circumstances, the built-in isight is fine... but sometimes having a camera with a zoom feature and the ability to pan further up or down would be most beneficial.
I also own a usb Logitech (pro-4000) webcam (the last series for which they have Mac support) and have installed the latest Mac drivers for it. I can get the Logitec to run its built-in applications, but when I try to select a webcam to use for Yahoo (in the yahoo preferences webcam section), the only selection available to me is the built-in isight.
Is there any way to get the option to choose between the Logitech and the isight?

I tried macam drivers, but that just gave me an application that allowed me to record video or snap pics from my Quickcam, Yahoo Messenger still does not recognize it as a source.

Very dark picture with built-in iSight

Hi,
with my 3 month old intel iMac it seems that the picture I get with the built-in iSight is much darker than with my previous white iMac G5 with built-in iSight.
My new iMac sits in the very same place as my previous iMac G5, yet the picture quality in terms of brightness is only mediocre.
Is there a way for me to adjust the settings for my iSight?
Has anybody else noticed this? Could it be a hardware problem?

Have you closed and opened Photo Booth? This is often all that is required.
This also can help:
Open the iChat application>video preview. If it is dark as well select:
iChat>change my picture>take a snap shot. Close iChat and open Photo Booth.
I haven't found the sniper solution yet, it doesn't happen very often.

First iMacs with built-in iSight

I got one of the first iMacs with built in iSight. When I got it, the documentation said that I could not use the built-in iSight to record directly into iMovie.
I CANNOT choose iSight from the import options, but if I have a DV camera plugged up to import and turn it off, it automatically switches to the iSight and the Import button switches to Record from iSight. It actually works as well.
Did I automatically install an update that allowed this? I like it, I just don't know when it happened.

Anyone know how to turn off isight so Imovie will only see the DV camrea /VTR deck? I've got a school setup for Imovie editing and to capture footage from the DV tape deck, but Imovie just keeps wanting to select the Isight Cam and i see no way of telling it what to connect to!!

20" Monitor with (Built-in iSight?)

As soon as Apple updates the 20" monitor with built-in iSight I will be buying one and connecting my Macbook, then retiring my iMac iSight to my wife. Hurry up Apple with the upgrade.
Now for the technical question:
If Apple indeed adds iSight to it's line of monitors and since all the new computers Apple is building these days already have iSight built-in will my dream configuration work.
I know the external iSight works when connected, however there are minor glitches when shutting down, sleeping....

Recording with Built-in iSight

The reason I bought I didn't buy a laptop is because there were no laptops with built-in iSight back in the day. And now I want to make use of this by recording into iMovie. BUT now they tell me that I can't do that with my version of iMovie, when they specifically told me I could "record video on my computer" when I was buying it. I'm prettty mad so I was wondering if anyone can help me. I believe I have iLife '05...

I have an older logitech 3000 and have been able to get it to work with 3rd party software such as macam and btvpro, but can't use it for Yahoo Messenger or similar programs. It won't work with photobooth either.

I recently downloaded Skype and have my very first video call scheduled for next week. If iMacs do come with a built-in microphone, what -- if anything -- do you have to do to activate it? Hello Cody. I don't think RJ's suggestion will help you with this one.
in imovie hd (iLife 05). anyone ever run into this issue?Everybody does. According to Apple, the iSight built into an iMac G5 (iSight) is not able to capture video into iMovie.

IMac with built-in iSight, PC, Skype compatability

I know this is a simple question, but I read a few months ago where macs had a few compatability problems with webcam communicating to PC's. If both are using Skype, is there a problem webcam audio/visual communicating between a PC and an iMac using built in iSight?

There can be problems with Skype Mac to PC video connections, of course, but generally I'd say any problems there might be are not attributable to built-in iSight cameras.

Having Problems with built in iSight

I am having problems with the computer finding my built in iSight camera, I just updated to Mountain Lion and now no applications recognise it.
I have tried turning it off and on again, and switching to different users, but none can identify a connected camera.

Since you've determined that the behavior isn't user specific, try these steps:
3. Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
4. Reset SMC or PMU
Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

I am having trouble with my Macbook Pro's built in iSight. I appreciate any help anyone could give me.
As of a couple of days ago, iChat and Photobooth are now unable to access the iSight camera. iChat states, "There is no camera attached to this computer." Photobooth gives the error "There is no connected camera."
The weird thing is, Skype and any flash based software are still able to use the camera perfectly.
System profiler lists the camera correctly as "Built-in iSight" under USB. It doesn't list any problems. Nothing else is attached to the computer.
I have tried resetting the PRAM, resetting the SMC, repairing disk permissions (twice), and reinstalling 10.6.4 with the combo updater.
Can anyone think of anything else to try?

You seem to have tried all relevant suggestions from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
When only a couple of apps give trouble, their preference files might be corrupted. If you are using the OS X version of Skype successfully, my suggestion is that you reset the preferences for the apps that are giving trouble. If you need help:
Here is how to reset Photo Booth preferences:
• Quit Photo Booth if it is running.
• Delete the com.apple.PhotoBooth.plist file from your ~ (Home) /Library/Preferences folder.
• Restart Photo Booth and test. A new .plist file will be created when you launch.
Resetting iChat is similar except iChat's camera preferences are kept in the com.apple.PhotoBooth.plist file in the same directory.
Be sure to quit iChat before you reset preferences. When you start iChat again after tossing your iChat.plist file, you will need to reset any preferences that you want to be different from the default values.
