IMac logs me out and closes all applications while working

Hi,
I am facing a ridiculous problem now with my new iMac. I have been using if for a while now. Recently it has started showing this issue.
Issue:
While I am working on the mac, suddenly without any notifications or any actions being taken iMac logs out. It even closes all my open/working applications all of a sudden and takes me to the login screen.
When I log back in, it's like the system has been restarted/afresh. And I again need to open all my applications.
This has started from last couple of weeks, and happens once/twice each day.
Anybody have any clue why this happens? It has become a headache for me as it closes all my unsaved works too

Thanks for the reply baltwo.
Sorry that I missed to mention that. Before posting the question here, I searched the support forum and found a similar suggestion.
Unfortunately that is not the issue with me. I have checked that and that option
+System Preferences->Security->General and ensure log out after XX minutes of inactivity isn't checked.+
The logging out issue still persists. And I am unable to find the solution yet.

  • Cannot get "Quit and Close All Windows" to work

Each time I open any application on my Mac, it automatically opens any other windows for that app that I had previously left open and unsaved (including ones I had temporarily opened to view a file, which remain titled "Untitled", etc.)....I've tried UN-checking in the General area of System Preferences "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps", but this does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I've ALSO tried holding the Option key down while choosing Quit in a given application such that the "Quit" command changes temporarily to "Quite and Close All Windows", but, again, when I re-open the application, it re-opens all the previously left open windows as well...
I've found this behavior in programs such as Preview, Mail, Safari - the list goes on. What gives :-)? Thanks for any help!
    Sincerely.

Mac Pro (early 2009), 32 gigs RAM running Lion 10.7.4

Thansk for the quit reply! However, I'm afraid there are still problems:
    It the Resume feature.
When choosing Restart, Sleep or Shutdown there is a checkbox you can uncheck to prevent the apps from launching.
This is actually the only time my windows DO fully close, when I uncheck the re-open previous apps after doing a cold-restart of my entire Mac (not exactly practical when all I want to do is not have to manually close a zillion windows that have inexplicably re-opened upon re-opening a given application like Mail...
Also in System Preferences > General there is a hard-to-find checkbox under "Number of recent items" you can turn off.
Also, you can hold the shift key to disable resume on a one time basis.
I've tried setting the "no. of recent items" all to 0, and this has no effect. I've also (as I mentioned before) DE-selecting "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps", which also has no effect (this is particularly perplexing, since this seems like the most logical way to enable what I'm seeking). I've similarly also tried option-Quitting from within the app to no avail...
Again, you can accomplish this through Finder by going to ~/Library/Saved Application State and deleting the folder.
I thought this would be the ultimate solution - just delete the entire "Saved Application State" folder, as you suggest. However, I tried this (temporarily changing it's name to "Saved Application StateOLD"), but when I closed Mail (with opened windows) and then re-opened it, not only did the windows still re-appear, but a NEW "Saved Application State" folder was created, saving presumably the new Resume data for seemingly this and any other apps that I still had open on my computer.
If you want to turn it off on a per app basis, (TextEdit is by example, replace TextEdit with the name of the app)
Launch Terminal and copy/paste this at the prompt...
defaults write com.apple.TextEdit NSQuitAlwaysKeepsWindows -bool false
    Press return.
    To turn off Resume globally...
    chflags uchg ~/Library/"Saved Application State"
    Press return
If you're CERTAIN the above won't mess up my computer :-) I guess I'll try this next, either App by App, or Globally. However, please confirm that you're saying that to delete Resume globally, I need to enter the chflags info (above), word-for-word, into Terminal?
    Thanks again -

  • Memory could not be allocated for the activation process. Please close all applications and try agai

I have just had a Windows XP failure and took the opportunity to replace with Windows 7.  After I reinstalled PhotoShop CS(1) the message "Memory could not be allocated for the activation process. Please close all applications and try again"  is shown and forces PhotoShop to close.  I have 4Gb of Ram installed and a total of about 10Gb of Page File space on three partitions of a 500Gb HDD.  The system is not heavily loaded!  However, I cannot access Photoshop to check scratch disk allocation.  How to fix???

Yes, there are many forums, and it can be confusing. Your question has the best chance of being answered if it is in the proper place. I think it is there now.

    Hello,
    Just purchased a new laptop:
    Intel Core 2 quad
    4gb memory
    1000 HDD
Photoshop CS 8.0 disc dead/scratched/unreadable.  So I copied my Adobe folder from my Program Files Folder on my PC and pasted on laptop.  When I try and run PS I get the error message "Memory could not be allocated for the activation process. Please close all applications and try again". Which I do then Photoshop closes.
Can anyone help (in layman terms please)?

Not really. You are essentially FUBARd. Without a proper install, there is usually no way on to get the licensing stuff working. You might be able to get there by installing any other CS product, so PS could latch on to the licensing system that would be already in place, but otherwise it's a lost cause. Simply copying over the executables is normally not enough. I will admit though, that I skipped CS, so there may be some tool somewhere that I don't know about can do this post facto...

Since updating to Yosemite I am facing some strange issues.

All open windows reappear but the whole startup procedure starts again.
All connected or opened Drives and Images need to be reopened.

I don't want to get logged out suddenly during the audience is listening to the music.
    Any guesses?
Is it a bug or a new feature which can be switched off?

  • How to automatically open and close an application at specific times?

    Hi,
I am trying to figure out how to open and close an application at specific times.
I have set iCal up to open it no problem...however, the application needs you to click yes before entering into it upon boot.
How do I do this and close the app. I tried creating a workflow in automator, but iCal simply opens the workflow and does not play it. This also does not solve the issue of needing the 'yes' button to be clicked.
    Kind regards,

Is there a simple way to grey out and disable all of the controls on a FP at once?

    Apok, Bill
Its merely a style issue.  No specific benefit.  Bill is absolutly right that these refs will be cleaned up without the close ref.  In fact, In theory if the Panes[] PN returns an error the loop will not iterate and all of the lower three errors are identical.  So WHY? because, the guy in the next cube may be working with property nodes of some other class. Almost garunteed to be interfacing to some .NET assembly written by the maestro of poor programming practice, known affectionatly to us as "The manager".  Now I have to explain to him/her why your adaptation blows up but my code is safe and maybe, even point out that the richly obfuscated assembly from the manager was concieved with all the talent our worst intern could have outcoded in diapers.   Now they are confussed and remember that my code doen't follow the standard I enforce on them "Just because I think I'm Mr. LabVIEW Trivia buff."  So, the coworkers begin to hate me just a little and, the manager thinks I hate them (I might but, I woudn't want them to think so.)
I guess that actually is a specific benefit

Click the Utilities icon/folder to see the contents and then drag the items out of the folder upwards onto the Desktop and they will be removed from the folder.

  • Windoes reports a NIMax error and closes the application when i try to open MAX

Windoes reports a NIMax error and closes the application when i try to open MAX. It was fine just a couple of months before and i do not know why. I need to access the VIlogger for using my USB-6009 module.

I wouldn't think this was a firewall problem - they tend to be better behaved than this. Before installing the new drivers, uninstall all the driver software, restart your computer and then attempt the install. If this doesn't work, uninstall all NI software - including LV - run a register cleaner like CCleaner, restart and reinstall everything. It THIS doesn't work, it's time to be talking to NI directly.

  • Apps open and close all of the sudden

Ok, my iphone was working fine until 10 minutes ago. I had no issues with it and all of the sudden, I tried opening up an app and all it will do is just open and close all of the sudden. And it's with ALL apps! I tried doing everything there is to do to solve the issue and nothing. I even followed someone's post about downloading a free app and nothing. I have tried restoring it, doing the sleep/wake and home button till apple logo comes up, and turning it off normally, and even re-syncing to computer and NOTHING! What should I do?

Download another free App - doesn't matter which one.
Sync and then hold down the Home and top button until the phone switches of completely.
Restart the phone and you should be fine - you did nothing wrong but its a sign of a bad sync.
You're not the first so enjoy !

  • Globally open and close all accordion panels

Is there a way to globally open and close all accordion
panels? For example, it would be nice to have an "Expand all" and
"Collapse all" link at the top of the page, before the accordion,
    that has this functionality.

    Hi FM_n_DC,
Accordions can only ever have a single panel open. If you
want individual control over which panels are open you probably
want to use a CollapsiblePanelGroup. This sample shows how to open
all and close all of the panels of the CollapsiblePanelGroup:
