IMac SD Card reader shows mounted disk with no card inserted

My 27" i7 iMac has recently started showing a mounted disk called SDCARD001 when no SD card is inserted. Restarting doesn't solve the problem and neither does inserting and ejecting an actual SD card. If I eject the phantom SD card it remounts itself a few hours later, usually after waking up from sleep.
Any ideas?

I'd recommend either calling AppleCare or making a trip to your local Apple Store. I've never heard of this problem.

  • IMac won't read software installer disk, can anyone help?

    I have an old imac (grape 99-2000) it was equipped with ethernet and i was told to get an ethernet wireless bridge, however the software for the wireless bridge won't open with my current OS 10.1 operating system, is there certain software i need in order to be able to access this? Can anyone help? Thank you!

    You don't need software at all and most manufactures don't bother with Apple compatible setup software. Instead search the manual for set up instructions for Mac operating systems. Basically you will be setting up your bridge by talking to it through a browser (Netscape, Explorer, etc.) by typing in an address to get to the bridge's internal menus.
    Which bridge device is it?

  • IMac won't read startup disk

    Longstanding problem. Older iMac won't read the Leopard disk. I got around this by using my daughter's iBook in slave mode and then installing 10.5. Everything works but I can't start up with the disk to use disk utilities. It was suggested that I get a new ext dvd drive which I did. (Kanguru qs2)
    I started it up and installed Office for Mac without a problem. Then I tried to use the 10.5 disk and it would not read it. I had a hard time getting the disk to eject. After it did eject I tried using some other disks including Office and none of them work now. Any ideas?

    Sounds like your new drive broke.

  • Devicekit + nautilus mount disk w/ customized label

    Hello, I've tried modified hal policy rule to make nautilus mount disk with customized label,
    but failed.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <deviceinfo version="0.2">
    <device>
    <match key="block.is_volume" bool="true">
    <match key="volume.uuid" string="4C4CD2E84CD2CBB8">
    <merge key="volume.label" type="string">movies</merge>
    </match>
    </match>
    </device>
    </deviceinfo>
    I found that the policy rules are not functional,
    And even I stop hal by /etc/rc.d/hal stop
    I still can mount disk by nautilus, but it is default mounted to /media/UUID
    Is that done by devicekit?
    I don't know when is devicekit daemon started, ps aux I got below?
    root 2177 0.0 0.0 4612 660 ? S 23:11 0:00 devkit-disks-daemon: not polling any devices
    and how to make my nautilus mount some disk with "movies" but not its UUID?
    Thanks

    Sorry, I forgot to mentioned that I never assign LABEL to the partition.
    I am trying to do is mount /dev/sdd1 /media/movies by nautilus even if it is not assigned any LABEL.
    Sorry, the title should changed to "devicekit + nautilus mount disk w/ customized string(name)"
    and I've tried that if I use ntfslabel to change label of /dev/sdd1 to "movies"
    it works fine like I want.

  • I have a fat32 formatted drive (WD my passport 500GB) that is showing in disk utility but does not mount. I am using a macbook with mac osx 10.5.8.

    Disk warrior came highly recommended on other posts but because the drive is not mac os formatted it won't do its warrior magic...
    The drive shows in disk utility but the options to repair are greyed out. The drive ejects sometimes but not others. The drive powers up with light and I can hear noise (not loud just a hum that confirms (i think) that it is spinning.). The drive is as it cames and booted on both a windows XP pc and my macbook with mac os x 10.5.8.
    I have tried test disk but after running for a day with no other command prompts other than the first recommend I uninstalled it.
    Any other suggestions?

    Hi Christina,
    It's quite possible the AC PSU has given out, if It's only Bus powered as it appears, that's the worst idea ever & asking for eventual problems.
    What Format is it?
    Did you install any WD SW?
    Your best bet is DiskWarrio...

  • HT3275 I'm receiving an error message that reads "The backup disk image '/Volumes/Data/my name's iMAC.sparesebundle" is already in use.  The time capsule is not backing up any files.

    The Time Machine is not completing thte backup to my Time Capsule.  I am receiving a message which reads "The backup disk image "/Volumes/Data/Mac Jet's iMAC.sparsebundle" is already in use."  I cannot locate the source of the problem or what steps need to be taken to get the Time Capsule operating.

    Hi, see if it shows here...
    In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)
    Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
    Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1 or 2 if there are no real files in them, and reboot.
    If it does contain data...

  • Macbook Pro 2012 HDD not mounting/not showing in disk utility

    I opened the macbook to find all apps freezing, nothing would work. So i did a hard shutdown and restarted the machine, and when it booted i just got the flashing folder icon. I re-booted into internet recovery, and went in to Disk Utility and found that the hard drive was not mounting and showing in there. I swapped the hard drive with a spare SSD and it worked fine, so it's not the cable. Also when i boot up, i can hear the hard drive spinning so its not completely dead. I have booted it up as a target disk with the iMac and it still will not appear. There's some photos and other bits that i really want to recover from this drive. Any advice?

    Okay, so i have held off going to an Apple store because i wanted to recover the data from the hard drive before repair/replacement. I fitted a 120GB SSD drive which worked fine until today when i opened it up and the same thing occurred. It would seem that it is not the hard drive that had a problem, but perhaps a software issue. I managed to boot up once after the crash and the error report listed a kernel panic as the root of the problem. Here is the full report, which i also got the first time it happened...

    Any help or ideas what may have caused this? I can't boot into safe mode, and i cannot mount the drive to repair in disk utility. Is there a way to resolve this myself?

  • Can not mount USB disks with Disk utulity

    Today I received finally received the new Airport Extreme. I had no problems installing it in my WDS wireless net and combining it with the Airport Express.
    BUT... mounting disk does not work.
    I have 3 USB 2.0 Disk: 2 x Maxtor and one WD. All of them are seen by the Airport utility, but do not show up in the Disk Utilty on none of my Macs.
    I realy tried everything:
    - connecting them all at the same time using a USB 2.0 hub,
    - connecting them one by one using an USB cable,
    - reformating on my mac using Mac OS Extended (journaled) and connecting them,
    - renaming the names of the disk to simple names: no space, no numbers,
    - renaming the BaseStation.
    No result, the onlything I see apearing in the Disk Utility Menu is the name of the BaseStation. If I click on this, a "Login" dialog box is displayed, if I try to login (all options tested) no result, and after a long time-out sometimes a message is displayed Not able to mount "drive-name.
    Is there somebody who knows what to do?
    Regards, Marc

    After you reformatted did you by chance add any files while directly attached to your mac.
    Network drives won't show in disk utility, use airport disk utility to find them and have them mounted or use the network list in your finder.

  • USB disk with Lion recovery partition + storage partition shared by Mac & Windows: Windows can't read it.

    I have a Lexar Express Card flash drive (16GB). It works the same as any USB flash drive.
    I use it to move files between Mac OS and Windows 7/Bootcamp: Drag files to it in one OS, reboot in the other OS, take the files back off.
    Recently, I discovered the Lion Recvoery Disk Assistant, which allows you to create a Lion Recovery Disk on an external drive (just in case). So, I decided I would use a ~1GB partition on the express card for the recovery disk, and leave a ~15GB partition for the same file sharing I am used to.
    This setup requires that the disk use a GUID Partition Map with a HFS+ file system for the recovery partition, and I use a FAT32 file system for the shared partition. The partitioning was done in Mac OS Disk Utility, and then I think the Recovery Disk Assistant modifies it further by adding an EFI partition.
    When I try to access the disk in Windows 7, it says it needs to format the drive first (which it shows to be a ~200MB "volume" on a disk with ~15.4GB "capacity"). From what I have been able to find on my own, Windows 7 should be fine with a disk using a GUID Partition Map, and both OSs can use a FAT32 file system. So why does Windows only see the 200MB EFI partition at the first section of the disk, and not the other partitions, particularly the FAT32 file sharing partition?
    The last thing I will mention is that the disk is being seen by Windows as a MBR/Master Boot Record partitioned device. I'm assuming this is the GPT/GUID Partition Table's protective partition's fault; the one MBR partition that keeps the GPT partitioning safe from software that doesn't recognize or know about GPT.
    I'm asking on the Apple discussions because it's in Boot Camp and I'm primarily a Mac user. If anyone knows a better, Windows-focused place to ask, please say so!

    You really need to search first as there are A LOT of post's with the same question. Different issues with different Models.
    What model/year do you have and what OS were you using first? Snow Leopard (10.6) is the last one that came with a CD/DVD with the computer.
    You insert the disk when it's done installing W7 and reboots into Windows then you insert the 10.6 MacOS Installer disk for the Windows drivers. Lion does it a different way.
    PR7 wrote:
    ...........because I lost the OS X Lion install disk that came with my Mac)..........
    Lion (10.7) is only a download now, there are no more physical disk's, (unless you pay the extra money for the USB installer thumb drive directly from Apple). So if your computer came with 10.7 Lion installed then you will not have a physical disk. There should be a "Repair Partition" that you use to boot to if you need to  repair or to reinstall the Lion OS.

    I don't believe the Boot Camps drivers are in the Lion download anymore, ( to keep the download smaller?), the only way you get them now is when you start BCAssistant, it will prompt you to download them onto a CD, or USB drive. You have to download and install the Boot Camp drivers separately. You then insert it when it's done, when Windows boots.

  • Making a slide-show disk with music self-playable

    I have burned a slideshow disk with music through Keynote. In "Inspector", I made sure that zI selected "self-playable" before recording and saving it. However, when I put the disk in my iMac, the icon appears on my desktop, I click on the icon, a window pops up with the file on it, and I click on the file. Then Keynote opens up with the slideshow showing in "Navigator" and I have to press or select play for the slideshow to play.
    What must I do to have the slideshow play as soon as the disk is loaded or at least when I click on the icon of the disk on my desktop?
    Thanks for your help.

    Place the individual music files into a new iTunes playlist. Choose it (not the individual files) by hitting the OK button.

  • How to connect my new MacBook Air to a LaCie hard disk with TIme Capsule backup from my old Imac? LaCie has USB 2.0, FireWire and eSata ports.

    How can I connect my new MacBook Air to a LaCie hard disk with TIme Capsule backup from my old Imac? LaCie has USB 2.0, FireWire and eSata ports.

    You can direct connect your MBA to the LaCie via USB 2 cable.  If you have an Apple Airport Router you can USB connect the LaCie drive to the router and then use Airport Utility to configure it.  Time Machine can access it either way.

    My Imac is showing gray screen with red line when booting and restart again, I can load it in windows 7 safe mode with red lines across the display, pls help

    The graphic card is damaged. You can't do anything more than taking your computer to an Apple Store or reseller and getting your graphic card replaced.
    Sometimes, when the graphic card is damaged, operating systems can't start. That's caused because the drivers that make the graphic card work detect an error, telling the operating system that the graphic card is unusable, so the operating system can't start and it restarts. However, you can start in safe mode because operating systems use a basic driver in this startup mode

  • Which compact flash card reader (still available) works with core i7?

    Help! My card reader died. I'm having trouble finding a compact flash card reader for my iMac Core i7. I'm shooting with a Canon 7D. Any suggestions?

    Maybe a bit pricey http://store.apple.com/us/product/H6333VC/A?fnode=MTY1NDA2NA&mco=MjQwODk2ODQ
    In essence, all USB 2.0 Card Reader should work (SanDisk for example) as well.

  • Asmcmd "lsdsk -I" doesn't show disks with non-default asm_diskstring

    Hi,
    I'm testing Oracle 11.1.0.6 on RHEL5 with ASM. It's working well and I'm trying to use the ASM new features but I have the following problem :
    - When ASM instance is running, I can use "lsdsk" and it shows the disks
    - When ASM instance is down and if I use lsdsk (i.e lsdsk -I), it doesn't show them
    My guess is that it comes from the fact my devices are not in the default asm_diskstring and I had to change it to discover them. Because the instance is down, it cannot discover the disks.
    The reason for this guess is that if I create a link in /dev/raw/raw1 to my device, "lsdsk -I" is working as you can see below : ASMCMD> lsdsk -I -k
    Total_MB  Name       Failgroup  Path
        1529  DATA_0000  DATA_0000  /dev/raw/raw1
    ASMCMD> lsdsk -I -t
    Create_Date           Mount_Date            Path
    Sep 16 08:14:48 2007  Sep 16 12:26:00 2007  /dev/raw/raw1Do you know if there is a variable I could use to change "lsdsk -I" search pattern from the default to my own ?
    Best Regards,
    Gregory

    "I had installed ASM initially on the same CRS, but due to some error during the installation"
    This statement means: I had installed ASM on the clusterware, but due to time synchronization error, it didn't got copied on to the 2nd node, and hence I had to uninstall the ASM software.
    But the clusterware is still up and running.

  • IPhoto crashing with camera card inserted into reader......

    I replied to another thread regarding iPhoto crashing this morning, the first time that I have attempted to import photos into the newest iPhoto. After posting my replies, I noted that the question had been answered and I don't want this topic to die because it's still an issue with me to a certain extent. So here goes again... I have had 6 crashes this morning when I attempted to import photos with my camera card inserted. It crashed each time. Four of the 6 times I was able to report to Apple about the crashes- the first 2 times the report to Apple box didn't come up after clicking on Report. My work around until Apple fixes this bug is to not have iPhoto open when my camera card is inserted. I drag my photos from the camera card to my desktop, remove card, open iPhoto and import the pictures. Of course the downside is that I can't 'split' the photos into different events...... I hope Apple comes up with a fix for this bug. Judy
    PS- I am using the latest version of iPhoto although I haven't checked this mornng to see if there is an update.

    mrstee:
    You can split into events when importing from the Finder/Desktop. Go into iPhoto's Events preference section and check the Finder check box. They will then be split in accordance with the criteria set in that section, i.e. 1-day, 1-week, etc.
    To try to find the problem try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, from your User/Library/Preferences folder.
    Next, if necessary, boot into Safe Mode and see if you can import successfully. If you can then your account is at fault. In that case one possible fix is the following:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
    Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Preferences folder (in its entirety) to the Desktop and make a second copy of it so you have Copy A and B. Now try the the process again and determine if problem is fixed.
    If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Prefs folder that the OS will have created and open it up.
    Open Copy B on the Desktop and select all of the items inside. Drag them into the open new library folder. When the Copy window comes up check the Apply to All check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here. That will keep the new files created and bring back all of the others.
    If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the intact Copy A folder back to the Library folder .
    If that doesn't work then a reapplication of of the 10.4.10 COMBO updater followed by a repair of disk permissions might do the trick.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
