Image files are now empty

I never had a problem with Skype receiving images until recently.
A few weeks ago I was no longer able to open images that were sent to me.  The thumbnail would appear but when I would click on it I could not view the full image because the size would be zero.  Even when trying to save the image, it would save it with a file size of zero and I wouldn't be able to open it.
I checked my version and noticed there was an update so I updated to the latest version.  That worked as I was then able to view and save images again ..... until today.
I am now experiencing the exact same issue again.  Thumbnails are appearing but I cannot view or save the full image because the size is zero.
My versions are:
Internet Explorer 10 version 10.0.9200.17183
Skype version 7.1.0.105
Windows 8 64 Bit
Any idea what is causing this?

Win2008/Vista/2003/XP can't install IE11, so need use Skype 7.1 and always need get url at Skype web storage.
Skype 7.2 doesn't require IE 11 on older OSs.  You just need to update to the latest/last IE for that particular OS ( IE8 or IE9 ).  I've tested Skype 7.2 on Windows XP ( IE8 ) and Vista ( IE9 ) and I did not run into any issues with image files.

  • How can I edit lightroom 5 smart previews on mac book pro (mbp) when the lightroom 5 master image files are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp

How can I edit lightroom 5 smart previews on mac book pro (mbp) when the lightroom 5 master image files are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp? So far when I try to disconnect the external HD from the mbp, I get the following pop up window: The disk "external hard drive A" couldn't be ejected because "Lightroom" is using it. Quit that application and try to eject this disk again. When I do that and restart Lightroom 5, the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom - Select Catalog screen pops up but doesn't list my external hard drive A as a choice.
I've reviewed Adobe's Lightroom Help | Smart Previews Lightroom 5 web page and still haven't been able to figure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Your internal HDD. by default, is named 'Macintosh HD'. From what information you supplied, it looks like there is already a Lightroom catalog installed on you local (internal) HDD using the standard naming convention Adobe uses as well as a Lightroom catalog on your external drive which you created. To be sure of which catalog Lightroom is loading when it starts up, To do this, start Lightroom as you normally would. After it starts, select the Lightroom menu item, then select the Catalog Preferences item and finally, navigate to the General tab. The Location information will tell you exactly what catalog Lightroom is opening by default. This will likely be the Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog on your external HDD. Once that is confirmed, you are ready to proceed. As an additional test/verification, you can shut down Lightroom and, this time, start Lightroom while holding down the ALT/OPTION key. This will cause Lightroom to pause and display a screen which will allow you to chose a different catalog to open. Navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder and select the Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat file. When Lightroom comes up, there should be no previews or folders as this catalog should be empty. Now you can be certain which catalog is being used and which catalog has all your data and you are ready to migrate your current catalog. Shut down Lightroom.
To migrate your current catalog, use Finder to locate your Photography Mac Book Pro Versions folder on your external drive. Select the folder and select COPY from the context menu. Next, use Finder to navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder on you internal HDD. You can start at the Macintosh HD level and work your way down by opening each level (Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures). Select the /Pictures folder and then select PASTE... from the context menu. When the COPY/PASTE is complete, you should see the following files on the Macintosh HD:
    Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/ and
Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions
The Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder will contain the empty default catalog the Adobe created when Lightroom was installed and Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions will contain a copy of the catalog you created on your external HDD.
You are almost done now. Make sure your external drive is still attached for this step. Restart Lightroom using the ALT/OPTION key again. When the Select Catalog screen appears, select the Choose a Different Catalog button (lower left side). When you do, a Finder window will open to allow you to navigate to a catalog of your choosing. Navigate to Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions and select the file Photography Mac Book Pro Version.lrcat. This is the copy you just created. Select the Open button and Lightroom should start. You should see all of your previews and settings just as before. Also, in the left hand panel, all of your folder should show up and none of them should be dimmed and none of your previews should display a small exclamation point badge. Either a dimmed folder name or an exclamation point badge indicates that Lightroom can't find the associated image file. If everything looks good, go to the Lightroom menu, select Preferences and then select the General tab. Under Default Catalog, select an option to either load the LAST catalog opened or select the Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog from the drop down. Shut down Lightroom and then restart it normally. This time, when Lightroom starts, you should be viewing the new copy of your catalog. You can confirm this by looking at the General tab on the Catalog Preferences screen (Lightroom/Catalog Preferences menu items). Shut down Lightroom once again and this time, eject your external drive before restarting. This time, your folders in the left hand panel will be dimmed but you should be able to work with your smart previews. If Lightroom should display a Select Catalog screen with the external drive detached, double check your settings as it indicates Lightroom is still looking at the copy of the catalog on the external drive rather than the new copy you made.
Finally, if you are seeing dimmed folders and/or exclamation point badges with the external drive attached, this indicates a problem. You can select any folder and select Update Folder Location from the context menu. This will allow you to navigate to the copy on the external drive and select it. Lightroom will then update the catalog (select to synchronize the content). This will not only clear the dimmed folder problem but also remove the exclamation point badges for all photos in that missing folder. However, it may indicate that not all went well with the copy of the catalog so make sure to verify all went well. You can use the Get Info option on the two folders. You should see the same number of files/folders for both the copy on the internal drive as well as on the external drive but you can't rely on the byte count because of the possibility of differences between the geometry of the two drives. Hope this all helps!

  • Imported iMovie HD Projects are now empty folders!

I imported 3 of my old projects, edited some things, now I launch the app and my 3 projects are now empty folders! What happened!?

Ok, I just figured it out. My Imported projects had periods in their names. Went to ~/Movies/iMovie Projects/, and they were folder, not projecte files. So I ditched the periods and added ".rcproject"... restarted iMovie and they came back fine. Hope that helps someone....

  • New user- all my files are now read only -

I am using a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop with Windows XP  and my husband has a Dell Dimesion 4600 desktop.  Two weeks ago I installed a Linksys Compact Wireless-G USB adapter on his computer and then installed a WRT54G v.6 wireless router.  All is working fine for internet connection. Today I discovered all my files are now read only and even when I uncheck the read only box and click apply, then close the file, on re-opening it it is again read only.  Even the files on my external hard drive are now read only.
I am backtracking to see where a change was made that was unintended and the wireless router was the last thing I installed.  Is there a connection?  And if so, can someone help me make the necessary changes or tell me where to find out?
I read through a lot of messages but did not immediately see this situation addressed.
    Sandra

seems to be an OS issue , because there is nothing on the router setting that could change the configuration on the computer....try System Restore....can't think of anything else at this point...

  • Old Quark files are now Unix Executable Files

I made hundreds of archive CD's with Mac's running OS 9 back in 1990's. They contain Quark files and .tif's. I've referred back to these CD's many many times over the years with no problems. My new iMac has the intel processor. I pop an archive CD in and all the files (with no extensions like "tif" or ".qkd" or ".eps") are now "Unix Executable Files" that won't open.
I simply add an extension to the images files (like ".tif") and they work. HOWEVER, it's not so easy with the Quark files. I add ".qkd" to the file name and it still remains a Unix file.
I launch Quark and try to open the file through the finder and it doesn't work. I took an archive CD to a friends house whose on a G5 and the CD worked properly with no extensions needed to be added.
So I figure the problem is with the Intel/PC based processor. I shouldn't have sold my old G5.
One forum claimed that a program called "File Buddy" did the trick for him. Does anyone have any other ideas other than me buying a non-Intel Mac.
I love our new iMacs but I need these archive CD's to work!
    Thanks

I automatically run OnyX once a week for maintenance, but it didn't help this situation.
Those chores won't reset the LaunchServices database. Go to the Maintenance heading and click on the Reset tab. Turn on the check box for "LaunchServices database" (all other check boxes off). Click the Reset radio button and then Execute. Restart your Mac.
OS X will automatically rebuild the database according to the applications on your hard drive, giving preference to Apple applications as they would be when you first install OS X. So if you have the Acrobat Reader set up to open PDF files, you'll have to do that again as they will be set back to Preview.
Actually it's .qxd not .qkd for Quark XPress file extensions.
That's it! I knew .qkd was wrong, but Quark 6.x won't show you the old extensions when you save a file, and I couldn't remember it (been using InDesign steadily for a while now).

  • Since installing Tiger my images files are missing .jpg and won't open.

Upgraded to Tiger a month or so ago. Now when I open some images files there are two extra items in the folder. One marked FINDER.DAT and another folder marked RESOURCE.FRK in upper case. My images will not open because the .jpg has been removed. I can retype the .jpg and they will open, but we are talking over 4000 images here. What happened? G4 Quicksilver, OS 10.4.10, Photoshop Elements 3, Toast Titanium, Firefox, Seamonkey, Safari, etc.

Copy this script into Script Editor, compile it, and run it on the .DAT folder:

  • Image files are missing when trying to import

This only started happening recently, and it doesn't happen all the time, but occasionally when I try to import images, the "Finder" section on the lower part of the Import screen doesn't show any images available for import. It will show me the folder hierarchy, but when I navigate to the folder that has the images I want to import (usually a folder on the desktop) the folder is "empty" in Aperture, even though I'm 100% sure the files are actually sitting there. (I'm currently working with JPGs and TIFFs because //cringe// there's no d7000 support yet....but that's a post for another thread.)
I should mention that I haven't seen this problem when I try to import directly from an SD card -- it only occurs when I try to import from a folder that's on my local HD.
    =|

Closing the import browser can help, as long as you have switched to an import source directory (which Aperture remembers) before closing it.
In my library I narrowed it down to very specific conditions to cause the hangup. I'm able to reliably reproduce the problem or avoid it based on the following procedures, which assume that I'm going to import from folders already in my filesystem (not on a connected camera.)
I thought it might have to do with which is the currently selected destination Project, Album or Folder when the Import command is initiated, but this doesn't seem to have an effect.
Instead, in my system, it depends on the presence of problematic non-JPEG files in the source directory. Some of these are very large .TIFF or .PNG scans, and if Aperture is not able to read them (and generate a preview for import) in a certain relatively short period of time - likely because they are bigger than 300MB - then the problem file and all those following it remain as dotted-outlines with no previews.
Once it's hung loading these big files, switching to other source directories yields all dotted outlines - no previews - for a very long time; and Aperture continues to display "Loading Assets", but eventually the normal jpegs in those source directories will show a preview. After that you can navigate to any other source directory and see previews +as long as those directories don't contain "problem" files.+
When it's hung loading large previews, closing and reopening the Import browser won't help. When I've switched to an unproblematic source directory and it's recovered, it doesn't matter.

  • Backup files are now Unix Executable files

I backed up my iPhone on my laptop (pc) but when i but transferred all my iPhone backup files to my iMac there was a couple of folders that are now Unix Executable files which are coincidentally are the same backups that I cant use to restore my iPhone without receiving an error message.

Why are my .mov files suddenly getting renamed when I add them to Keynote? They used to retain their original names. Very confusing now.

I'm on Aperture 3.0.3... I just noticed that non-image files (e.g., WAV files) are not copied into the Backup Location, although they are copied into the main folder location during an import. Does anyone else see this behavior?

    Shawnsat,
Yes you can still stream from the host computer, the knowledge base article that describes this is http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305098. If you are attempting to display Photos on Apple TV, they must be synced to the Apple TV, per knowledge base article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305139.
