Image looks different in Photoshop and Lightroom
I started a forum on flickr and I have some issues with my images. I have calibrated monitor but my images look off online even though I saved them as sRGB. Now my image looks one way in PS and then when I finish editing it and save it, I import it into lightroom and it looks different.

The image on the left in PS looks the same in Picasa Image
Viewer (I selected it to be color managed based on the monitor profile), looks the same in Windows Image Viewer, and looks the same in the thumbnail. The image on the right in LR is how the picture looks when I look at my image in Firefox but in Internet Explorer and in Chrome, the image looks like the image on the left in PS. The image below shows how the thumbnail looks different from the actual picture when it's double clicked and viewed in Picasa. The thumbnail (which shows the subjects having green skin) would be how I saw it online while the double clicked version is how I saw it in PS, even though it was sRGB (I checked the image properties to make sure of the color space).
I have a ATI 5470 GPU on my ASUS 17.3 inch laptop. Not sure about the drivers.

Why does the display look different in photoshop and lightroom
I am using CS4 and LR2.1. When I open the same picture in both programs the picture in CS4 looks dull and washed out. My color space in both programs is srgb (I send all my pictures to Miller's for printing). Any Idea why and what setting I should adjust.

Edit/Delete MessageYour color settings are not the same, or something is broken with your display profile that one application is trying to fix up (but that should give you a warning).

Mac OS X 10.9.5 has a color management bug that can lead to colors appearing different in Develop and Library: Jao's photo blog: Serious color management bug in Mac OS 10.9 "Mavericks" . See also: Jao's photo blog: Further quantification of the Mavericks color management problem and Jao's photo blog: Color management in Safari is broken in Mavericks too. Sorry for all the links to my blog, but this bug really annoys me and it bugs me that it hasn't been fixed all these months that Mavericks has been out. This can lead to color shifts especially in the deep tones. You can sometimes work around it by turning on soft proofing and proofing to adobeRGB or sRGB. Adobe could fix this but they haven't so far. Apple could fix it too, but they haven't until now. They fixed some code that lead to Aperture working correctly but Lightroom still has the problem.

Bug? Images look different in photoshop

Am hoping somebody can help me as I must be doing something really stupid here. I'm currently evaluating various workflow products, and really like Lightroom but find that whenever I import an image into LR the tones, particular shadow tones, look way too dark. They look kinda posterised.
My monitor is color calibrated with a spyder. I am running Windows XP.
I've attached a link to an image to demonstrate. I took an sRGB JPEG and imported into LR. I then edited a copy in PS (exported as ProPhoto - converted in PS to Adobe 1988 colorspace), another copy is shown exported to Capture NX (also Adobe colorspace).

if you look at the shadow tones in the folds of the jacket you can see a minor difference between PS and Capture NX but you can see a clear difference in LR. The shadows are way darker.
The image opens fine it every other application I have tried, including the free XP viewers. LR is doing something strange to the file but I cant work out what.
I first noticed the problem occuring in Beta 4.1 and am now getting the same issue in the new Lightroom demo ( I had hoped it was a bug that would have been fixed). I have been installing all sorts of evaluation software of late, so maybe something hasnt been cleaned out of my registry, or something is clashing.
So far, I've tried lots of different images (all with the same problem). Recreating an image database. Reinstalling LR (countless times).
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can try or do I need to reinstall my entire PCYeah dude, that totally makes sense.

Is that some sort of new-age yet-unheard-of phenomenon? If so, please elaborate by all means.
The point is that the image looks like crap displayed in the 'Library' module of LR, but looks fine in any other program. Because no other program is content with sitting around and displaying to you a low quality JPEG preview of your, say, high quality 16-bit uncompressed TIFF image.
That's why there's no blocking in the image loaded up in Photoshop. Yet it's there in LR because LR doesn't bother to render the image 'on-the-fly' until you step into the 'Develop' module.
You don't believe me? Then be happy in your ignorance.
On another note, though, instead of jacking it up to 400% when it's clearly evident at 100%, try calibrating your monitor with a hardware profiler so dark parts of images don't become a muddy mess of blacks. Be forewarned though that it's a double-edged sword: on the one hand, after calibration, you suddenly begin to see details in shadows that you may never before have seen; on the other hand, JPEG artifacts & noise in dark portions of images (inherent to JPEG compression) also become as apparent. Hence, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and figure you just can't see the blocking due to your monitor.
Finally, on a LR-unrelated note, why don't you come back to these forums when you're ready to write posts free of cheap ignorant insults? -
Have an unprecedented problem with printing 11X14 photos in both PS and Lightroom. The printer is operataing properly. Printing 81/2X11 correctly. Have double and triple checked all the printing settings and they are correct. Have checked with friends to no avail. This problem started yesterday. Widows 7 OS. Need help.
You show the OS receiving an image from Photoshop, and the OS starting the Epson print driver and handing it part of the image, the driver connects to the printer, then the print driver fails. It looks like a bug in the Epson rasterizer, or the printer communication.
You really need to talk to Epson. Photoshop isn't involved in that error. -

Images look different in Photoshop
I've recently noticed that when I open images in PS they look about third to a half a stop darker than in AP. It's quite unnerving and I'm not sure which one to believe!
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Why do fonts looks different between Photoshop and devexpress winform

I am creating a mock ups in PSD using font Verdana 10
when the developers using the same font on DevExpress win-forms the results looks extreme different.
can you help me understand why this is happening?

AnatThe glyphs are described by mathematical functions, there is no ambiguity if it is the same font.
If the text is immediately embedded as a raster graphic (opposed to keeping text as vector in
an exported PDF), then it is impossible to represent the accurate shape by only few pixels
(10pt, 72ppi: very few pixels; 10pt, 288ppi; four times more in both directions).
Therefore Photoshop can apply anti-aliasing: None, Sharp, Crisp, Strong, Smooth. The names
don't say much, but the appearance is different. You may try which mode is your best choice.

Images in Photoshop and Lightroom not matching on external display
On my external display the same image viewed in Photoshop and Lightroom is diplayed differently.
My set up:
Macbook pro running Mountain Lion (10.8.4), DVI connected NEC Spectraview 271. Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 5. Both displays calibrated using Spectraview 5 software and an Eye one pro puck. Photoshop working space is Prophoto RGB and is set to preserve embedded profiles. I'm using Andrew Rodney's and Bill Atkinson's test images to try and figure this out.
Behaviour:
With the same image displayed in Lightroom and Photoshop on the Macbook screen they match perfectly. If I drag the Lightroom window across to the NEC it changes (as you would expect - richer colours & higher contrast). If I drag the Photoshop image across to the NEC it also changes but no longer matches the Lightroom image (cooler colours).
So, I don't really know whether Photoshop or Lightroom is displaying correctly, and whether they or the OS are to blame. I had assumed it was Lightroom as the image is more pleasing but this obviously isn't necessarily the case. What is clear is that somewhere there is a difference between how Lightroom and Photoshop are converting the image numbers for monitor display on the NEC.
Does anyone know how to find out what display profile Lightroom and Photoshop are using?
Is it possible they are both using the same profile but one is not using the NEC hardware calibration? (Seems unlikely as I assume it would be impossible for the NEC to be using different internal look up tables at the same time)
Could the OS be tripping up one and not the other in some way?
Could the X-rite software (which I don't use but is installed) somehow be interfering?
Anybody able to shed some light?

TomI'm having trouble with Lightroom 5 soft proofing with reds too. To rid my propossed print of a gamut warning I must totally desaturate or change my paper profile to glossy (or both). This is odd because my monitor is calibrated, I'm using the correct paper profiles etc and when I ignore the gamut warning my prints are looking good. This isn't helpful to you but at least your not alone....

Does anyone know how well the Intel Iris Pro installed on new 15" MacBook Pros performs using Photoshop and Lightroom? I have seen some differing opinions out there, and I would rather not shell out the extra cash for the Nvidia if I don't have to. I mostly do photo editing for business and personal use. I have not used the 3D function in Photoshop, but I would like to know that I could.

Exported images looking different in different browsers
I've just published a set of images to my website using a publishing service from Lightroom 5, sRGB. The images look different when viewed in Chrome and Firefox browsers, Chrome looking fine but Firefox displaying them with a red cast. The also display with the red cast in some parts of the OS X Finder but not in Lightroom or Photoshop.
I've run one of the images through Jeffrey Friedl's online exif viewer and it's telling me there's no colour space metadata or embedded colour profile in the images ( http://goo.gl/Ouqkis). this would make sense as far as the strange colour goes but I thought Lightroom always embedded a colour profile?
I've had a couple of suggestions that revolve around changing firefox settings but really I just need for the images to work in any browser, without visitors having to care.
Does anyone have any thoughts

Ah ... hang on, I had a second, wide gamut monitor attached to the computer yesterday, mirrored display. Now it's not. I'd been mostly viewing in the main monitor (Macbook Pro), that was the one that was out and I wasn't checking the second monitor much after uploading. I'm willing to bet that was it. Second monitor affecting colour management on the first .....

Here's a screenshot of an sRGB profile ColorChecker image file with and without the profile in FireFox and Chrome browsers. All four browser images look identical on my non-wide gamut display...what do you see?

As long as the images are sRGB profile it doesn't matter whether the color profile is embedded or not. -
Because I listened to Adobe earlier today about whither uninstalling Elements would affect Photoshop and Lightroom on my computer, Lightroom no longer sees Photoshop in the EDIT IN Menu of Lightroom. I found an article on the help site saying to delete the filecom.adobe.Photoshop.plist, which I looked for, its not there so it can't be deleted. The next step is to uninstall Photoshop and reinstall. This isn't an option because of all the plug-ins and modifications of the work space. Does any one have a better solution?

Well, the quick summary that you are not going to like: This system is pretty short on RAM and processor power, your graphics driver is outdated and you are using two screens with different resolutions, which eats up all graphics acceleration plus your card has only 256 MB of VRAM in the first place, which doesn't meet the requirements. You will never be able to use 3D under those conditions.

Photoshop and lightroom cs4 on 2 computers?
I am buying a 2nd computer so my husband can help me edit pictures, and I was wondering if photoshop AND lightroom can run on 2 computers, and if they can both run at the same time on both computers?
Thank you!Fisrt of all you need to know that Photoshop are two different applications and Lightroom is available in only two versions, one and two. All you need to do is to buy licence for each computer. So in your case you will need four licences, two for Photoshop CS4 and two for Lightroom 2.
By doing that you will be good to go and can run those applications on two computers at the same time.

Concerning Epson Printer 4880: after changing the Ink from Photo Black to Matte Black I'm not getting the Epson Software in Photoshop and Lightroom. I can not select the paper medium, I don't see my profiles. What is wrong?
That is priceless!!! Thanks! I sure needed a good laugh after spending/wasting hours & days trying to either get my c6280 to give up on its Ink System Failure fixation, or find a decent replacement. Unfortunately I need the Smart Web Printing feature that I guess only HP has, or I'd try a different brand. And now even HP has very few models with that available.
My error msg is a little different from those previously stated, but close: 0xc18a0201. Even tho there were frustrations with my c6280, I did like several of its unique features which are hard to find now under $100. I hate how HP (& I suppose other brands also) are CONSTANTLY changing models & then of course ink cartridges.
Oh heavens, I've had the c6280 a whopping 2 1/2 years! I'm sure they want us poor slobs to have to buy a new one every year & a day! To say nothing of the exorbitant prices for ink. And now if this one is really dead in the water, I have SIX unused #02 ink cartridges which I cannot return---I got them in a combo pack, & for some reason have wound up with THREE lite pink & THREE lite blue cartridges, while having to buy extras of the other colors, that ran out before the others!!! Yeah, & what's with that not being able to print in BLACK if a color runs out????
Anyway I really loved your essay! It's a classic! And says it all! I hate that we have to be 'slaves' to the electronic 'wonders'!!!
