Image size from photoshop to indesign

For some reason if I make an image the exact size in Photoshop and bring it into indesign DPS it is always smaller.  Obviously I can resize it but i was curious why this is happening.  I set my file up to be 1024 x768 at 72 dpi and save as a JPEG.  When i drag that file into the frame in Indesign it is always small in the corner.  What am I doing wrong?

You're doing nothing wrong.. try using the place option from the file menu rather than dragging your images and see if there is any difference.

    So, I have a logo that is 300 ppi in photoshop, but when I place the image in indesign it's effective ppi is much lower. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to have the logo on a separate layer in indesign?

  • Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3

    Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3
    I have the following problem:
    When printing from Photoshop or InDesign to a PostScript printer, Adobe recommends to let Photoshop handle the colors (I use the German version, so I don't know the exact term used, it changes slightly in all CS3 apps anyway).
    The manufacturer however told me to let the PostScript printer handle the colors.
    When I chose this option in Ps's print dialog and then choose ISO Coated as the printer pfofile, the results are fine.
    But when I place the exact same image in an InDesign file and print from InDesign or export to PDF and print via Acrobat, again using "Printer handles colors", the results are the exact same as if I had used Ps and chosen to let Ps handle the colors (way too saturated and a bit too red).
    ·Photoshop CS3
    ·InDesign CS3
    ·Test image is a TIFF in CMYK Fogra 27 Coated (which is also the working color space in Ps and ID.
    ·Printer: Xerox Docucolor 3535
    ·Printer profile: ISO Coated
    How can I make sure the printer handles the colors in other CS3 apps than Ps? I tried it with ID's print dialog (translated from the German version: Color Management > Options > Color Handling: PostScript-printer decides colors).
    Thanks a lot!

    RE: "You don't indicate what Xerox printers you have"
    In my first post I named it, is that the information you need?
    Docucolor 3535 using Splash 3535
    That's interesting, so I have to find a way to turn off the printer's Color Management function? I mailed them, hope they can tell me how to do it easily. They usually just tell me to not use any profiles and so on, but that's the general rule in this area, I'm really tired of hearing it. Everybody seems to think profiles and LAB mode are nuclear science and I should stay away from it.
    Anyway, the test image I'm using is a simple photograph (size A3, 300dpi), so no transparencies at all. I'm placing this image into an equally large ID file and print it from ID, then export it to PDF-X/3 and print it from Acrobat. Hope that helps.

  • How can you find out an individual image size from multiple images on a canvas

    This is probably a really really simple question but I can't for the life of me find how I can find out an individual image size from multiple images on a canvas. eg I have 3 photos i want to arrange 1 large and the other two next to it half the size. How can I edit individual image size on the canvas as when I select the image on a sperate layer I want to resize it just resizes the entire canvas and not the individual image
    Thanks

    I want to know they exact dimensions though. You can get them by dragging to the 0,0 corner and then reading off of the ruler scale on the sides but its fiddily as you have to zoom right in and work it out. I know in photoshop there is a ruler but is there any other way in Elements?

  • Image size from header

    Hi,
    I'm trying to extract image size from header for PNG, JPG, TIFF, BMP and GIF files. So far I got PNG working. I'm having problems finding size info for JPG files. Anyone knows where I can read about it (i didnt find nothing on google) or have the code that works? also for the other image types?
    P.S. I dont wanna read the entire image using Image class cause its too slow.

    Code Snippet:
    ImageInputStream imageStream =
            ImageIO.createImageInputStream(/*File or InputStream*/);
    java.util.Iterator<ImageReader> readers =
            ImageIO.getImageReaders(imageStream);
    ImageReader reader = null;
    if(readers.hasNext()) {
        reader = readers.next();
    }else {
        imageStream.close();
        //can't read image format... what do you want to do about it,
        //throw an exception, return ?
    reader.setInput(imageStream,true,true);
    int imageWidth = reader.getWidth(0);
    int imageHeight = reader.getHeight(0);
    reader.dispose();
    imageStream.close();

  • Moving images from Photoshop to Indesign (CS4)

    Hi,
    I've designed a badge in Photoshop and want to add the graphic to my indesign project. But when I import the graphic it gets a white background by default when I want it to be transparent. I know there is a way but I've forgot!
    Thanks
    James

    What file format have you saved it as?
    PSD or TIF can have transparent backgrounds.
    When you save as TIF make sure you check the box for Preserve Transparency.
    If you have a white background in your image already, but have drawn a clipping path, then when you import the TIF file check the Show Options
    You'll see this when you go to File>Place (show options is in the bottom left hand corner of the dialog box).
    You should have the option to invoke the photoshop clipping path there.
    If you have already placed your image with a photoshop clipping path then you can use the Object>Clipping Path>Options and select the path from the drop down menu.

  • Copying text from Photoshop to InDesign

    Dear InDesign Community,
    I am working on updating a 60 page .pdf which was is extremelly blurry and unsearchable because each page was individually created in Photoshop (CS6) at size 8.5x11 and then put into a 6x7 sized document via Microsoft Publisher ( I weep as I write this sentene). I am currently rebuilding the file in InDesign and I was wondering if there was any way to copy and paste the formatted text from Photoshop cs6 to Indesign cs6 without losing the formatting. The end product is supposed to be a good quality pdf for web that is also a searchable document. Please advise.

    No, sort of. If you can live with the text EXACTLY as it is in
    Photoshop, kill all the layer except the text and save as PDF from
    Photoshop. Place the PDF in InDesign and it will retain its vector
    properties and formatting. You will not be able to edit anything.

  • Blurring of images imported from photoshop?

    I have latest version of iMovie and OS. When I import images from photoshop, I get blurring of the image and sometimes pixilation. I looks normal in the workspace viewer but when I play the timeline the image deteriorates.

    Thanks for looking at my problem. When I looked carefully at the new name (thanks dj for telling me to do that) I realized that the name had parts of what I had added as a preset and applied in External Editing. What appears to have happened is that my original preset was corrupted and dropped out the part that told it to use the original file name. I have repaired it and now all is well. Thanks for the responses and the help! Much appreciated.

  • Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer ejects 3.8 in of a 4X6 paper and prints only 2.2 in of the image printing from Photoshop CS6, I'm sure I set everything correctly - what could I be missing?

    Using Mac Pro running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) & editing & printing from Photoshop CS 6.
    Have new Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer and set it up yesterday.  First thing printed was a
    document from MS Word (a letter) 8.5 X 11 plain paper - this came out OK.  Next I fire up
    Photoshop and open a 4 X 6 inch image to do a test print.  I set it up in the print dialog as
    4X6 paper, Canon's Pro Glossy paper profile, rear tray, standard print quality, Photoshop
    manages the color.  I load the paper in the rear tray close the covers and hit print.  Now, when
    it starts to print the printer moves about 3.8 inches of paper out of the printer and starts printing
    on the remaining 2.2 inches then spits the paper out.  It does this in Photoshop (any image it doesn't
    matter), and it does it printing from Capture NX.  I have been able to get it to print on the paper
    correctly using Apple's Preview program but that that's not going to do me any good.  I was on
    the phone with Canon tech support for about 2 hours and they were completely puzzled suggesting
    I would have to use Canon's printing apps instead to print - that doesn't do me any good either.
    I want to be able to print from Photoshop.  Any one every heard of this or experienced the same
    problem? Thanks JamesD!

    Hello again. I recognize that a print is good if you like it and bad if you don't, despite what others might say, but I will at least share my experiences. They might help you or others who are following this thread.
    My monitor is calibrated with Spyder 3. Gamma 2.2, 6500K, 83 cd/m^2. Contrast at 50%; brightness about 52%. My monitor lets me choose blackness level - it defaults to 50%.
    When I print the test image I linked to above, using Lightroom, with no adjustments, my technical output is as follows:
    Middle step wedge shows twelve disticnt steps. Whitest step is color of unprinted paper.
    It varies from paper to paper, but I can discerne at least the 252 step and on some papers 253 - telling me I have good highlight detail.
    On the black side I discerne 8 or 10, nothing lower. (That sounds like what you are reporting).
    Artistically I am very happy how my print looks - nice red strawberries, good flesh tones, etc.
    One my monitor, the on-screen image is almost identical to the print. I am surprised that you can see the 2 wedge step on screen at a very similar brightness.
    I also checked out this B&W test image:
    http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/article_pages/bw_printing/bw-test-image-2.html
    You are probably aware of this since you are printing with Print Studio Pro, but others may not be.
    You can print a series of test images:
    find the one that best suits your taste, enter the calibration values in PSP, and save them as a custom setting. Then, each time you want to print recall the setting.
    You can do a similar thing in Lightroom using the printer driver and User Templates.
    There would be some one-time trial and error to that approach.

  • Strange difference in prints from Photoshop and InDesign

    Hello,
    Recently I upgraded to CS5 but at the same time upgraded my good old Power Mac G5 to a 27" iMac i7.
    I also traded my Epson 7600 for an Epson 9800. So obviously many things changed at the same time.
    Now I created a new profile for my printer paper and noticed the folowing strange thing:
    When printing from photoshop the prints are consistently way too dark.
    When printing from InDesign the same photo it is perfectly as it should be and looks on screen.
    Then I checked printing from Preview and again way too dark, same as in Photoshop
    I applied the same printerprofile to all printjobs
    During the profiling I also printed the testpage from the Datacolor Spyder 3 software, which was perfect
    printing the same testpage from Photoshop: way too dark.
    I don't have a clue to where things are going wrong.
    Is it a bug in Photoshop,but why then also in Preview?
    is it the way the printerdriver handles things? But then why not in InDesign?
    Anyone any ideas?
    Regards,
    Hans

    Have you gone into the "Print Settings" dialog and turned off color matching in the Epson portion of the settings?
    Are you running the most recent version of the driver? There is a combination updater to version 7.0 available as the first result at:

  • I am getting errors upon use of JPG images, saved from Photoshop, in Encore.

    How do I use Photoshop JPG images in Encore without errors?
    When using camera jpg images, saved by Photoshop (either save, or image manipulation like autocolor then save, no other Photoshop options were tested), Encore will either :
    1) generate an image import error: "The software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system.  Installing the correct decoders for the files you are working with may help to correct the problem." and be unable to import the image,
    2) Image import stops before completion (Encore stops responding and must be Closed by Windows Task Manager), or
    3) with a number of images imported, upon attempts to create a Slideshow, Slideshow creation will stop while in progress, and Encore does not respond (Encore must be Closed by Windows Task Manager).
    Import and Slideshow creation using untouched camera images is nominal and uneventful.
    Import and Slideshow creation using PhotoShop(64bit) GIF (copy) images is nominal and uneventful.

    The common cause of this issue is still image files where the pixel size is too large. This warranted its own help page, which is now a dead link.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/encore/kb/error-software-used-decode-media.html
    But I assume the pixel size is the same whether you are processing them in Photoshop or not. but the main point is that the underlying problem is not about decoders. Encore encounters a problems dealing with the file and throws the only error it (apparently) has. So you are looking for anything like that: pixel size, changes between rgb and cmyk, extra metadata in files. Maybe even filename oddities (length, special characters).
    I would look in part at what versions you are using and compatibility settings.
    I would save them as png or psd.

  • JQuery Cycle Plugin possible with sliced image site from Photoshop? CS5

    Hi all, I'm in a real pickle here.
    I'm an architecture & interior design graduate.
    I know not a lot about web design.
    I have managed to design my website, slice it in Photoshop and link it in Dreamweaver.
    I am trying to use JQuery Cycle for my slideshow here:

    I have watched this tutorail several times, and find it very complex and hard to understand:

  • Image size from Illustrator to Photoshop

    I'm new to Illustrator and may just be overlooking something here, but here's my the background and question:
    I took a screen shot of an image and opened it in Photoshop CS3. I've cropped out a portion I want to use and save the file as a .eps file and open it with Illustrator. Within Illustrator, I recreate the image at the same size as the image I opened (I'm looking at both images at 100% view). I save my new image as a .eps file and then open it with Photoshop. For some reason, the image is about 50% bigger in Photoshop than it was in Illustrator. Any ideas? Is a 100% viewing percentage not really showing the correct size of the image? Or is does the issue lie with how Photoshop CS3 interprets a .eps file from Illustrator CS4?
    Thanks in advance for any information/advice.

    You have just discovered image resolution and its effect on the display of pixel based images.
    In Illustrator there's no resolution. Objects have a defined size and Illy assumes a monitor resolution of 72 ppi as a basis for it's assumptions on the display of graphics and for it's calculations of this 100%.
    When exporting into pixel based file formats you can choose the resolution.
    In Photoshop the "100%" has no relation to the actual size of things (as defined in Illustrator) but means that one pixel of the image is one pixel of your monitor.
    When you open an EPS you get a dialog box in which you specify the way photoshop has to calculate the pixels from the vector and the resolution you want. When you enter 72 ppi you should get the size you expected. But that won't be enough to print.
    BTW: the workflow of making a screenshot and converting your image to and fro maybe harmful to printing results.
