IMessage activation fails: could not sign in

iMessage activation fails: could not sign in. It waits for activation endlessly.
The issue started with contacts not being available for iMessage. I ended up not being able to sign in on both Mac and iPhone. Everything works fine on my iPad though.
Any ideas other than those posted around here? iMessage is becoming a real pain.

    3) Iphone will reboot . it will take some time
    4) Then your iphone will start . Click next and you will be prompted for i message activation . Give your apple id and Sign in
5)Keep your phone connected . In P.C you will be prompted if you want to restore ( EOther wise go to I tunes --> File --> Device--> Restore back up

    Hello, Hannaabe.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I see you have already been through most of the troubleshooting steps for this issue.  Make sure to take a look at the section below labeled If you've waited 24 hours and still can't activate FaceTime or iMessage.
If you see "Waiting for Activation", "Activation unsuccessful", or "An error occurred during activation"
These messages occur when your iPhone is trying to activate your phone number with iMessage or FaceTime.
To resolve these status messages, follow these steps. After each step, turn FaceTime and iMessage off and on again in Settings > Messages and Settings > FaceTime.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
Make sure that you have a cellular network connection with your cellular provider. You need a cellular network connection to activate iMessage and FaceTime with your iPhone phone number.
Go to www.apple.com in Safari to make sure that you have a data connection. You need a data connection to activate iMessage and FaceTime with your iPhone phone number.
Make sure that you can send and receive SMS. You need a valid SMS messaging plan to activate FaceTime and iMessage.
Make sure that FaceTime hasn't been restricted: tap Settings > General > Restrictions > FaceTime.
Set iPhone to the correct time zone: tap Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: If Set Automatically is on but the incorrect time zone appears, turn Set Automatically off and choose the correct time zone, date, and time.
Contact your carrier to verify that there are no restrictions, blocks, or filters on text messages. Restrictions, blocks, or filters on text messaging will prevent iMessage and FaceTime registration from completing.
If "Waiting for Activation" still appears after you perform these steps, turn FaceTime and iMessage off and on in Settings > Messages and Settings > FaceTime. You may need to wait up to 24 hours to complete activation. Most attempts will take less than an hour, but some attempts may take up to 24 hours. If your issue isn't resolved after 24 hours, please contact Apple for assistance. If you've recently performed a remote wipe on your iPhone, wait 24 hours from the time you performed the remote wipe, and then turn iMessage off then back on.You can still activate iMessage and FaceTime with your Apple ID when these status messages appear. You can see that you've activated FaceTime and iMessage with your Apple ID by tapping:
Settings > FaceTime > You can be reached by FaceTime at:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You can be reached by iMessage at:
If you've waited 24 hours and still can't activate FaceTime or iMessage
If you're still unable to resolve the symptoms above after performing these troubleshooting steps, please contact Apple for assistance.

    Any other thoughts, mario49?
I've no trouble connecting to or using iMessage on my iPhone or my iPad; and no trouble accessing iTunes, the iTunes Store, the (iOS) App Store from my iOS devices, the (OS X) App Store from my MBP.  So, my Apple ID is still functioning just fine, thank you very much and my network connection is not an issue.
My hosts file has not been tampered with, and I'm not blocked by any firewalls--the failures occur where ever I am.
This issue has been happening only for the last 2 days, but I'm completely locked out of Messages from my MBP.
    So, what's the deal?

  • IMessage on ML - "Could not sign into iMessage. Please check network settings and try again"

i came across an issue when signing into iMessage with an Apple ID on Mac.
i had been experiencing the "Could not sign into iMessage. Please check network setting and try again" error for iMessage issue since installing Mountain Lion. i finally solved my problem after talking to the Apple Tech Support team.
    Here's the steps:
    1. Shut down laptop.
    2. Switch on laptop again. immediately hold down the left "SHIFT" key until u get into the log in screen. By doing this, ur laptop will be in "Safe Boot" mode.
    3. Sign into iMessage using Apple ID. (i was able to sign into iMessage for the first time on my Mac since getting ML)
    4. Shut down laptop again.
    5. This time switch laptop on normally.
    6. You should be able to use iMessage normally.
in addition, make sure the boxes for date & time and timezone are ticked to be set automatically.
Hope this is helpful for users experiencing the same issue i had. it did for me!
    Cheers

    Okay,
let me add my story to this thread.
Brand spanking MBA, Mountain Lion.......logged into Imessage 1st thing, no prob.
Then, after a few weeks; in the middle of a chat....the name of the other person turned red and my sent messages received a red dot as they were not sent. I checked with the other person.
I couldn`t recieive any messages either, not from any contact.
I logged out, and I couldn`t log in anymore.
I get a yellow triangle saying something like "error while logging in, try again later".
I tried again and again later........
I seeked help on this forum and a user helped me initially.
I re-installed the whole Mountain Lion, a process that I don`t care to repeat too often.
That fixed it for a while, but yesterday the same thing happened.
In the middle of a chat....the red name, the red dots......well, you get the picture.
    I tried, to no avail:
    # to log in after reseting the PRAM
    # boot up and log in whilst in SAVE mode. It will NOT log in, same problem
    # to log in after deleting all Imessages and Facetime files in Library/Preferences
    # to log in with my wife`s Apple ID, or any ID really.
What did work was logging in with my ID on my wife`s Ipad, no worries.
My account is Yahoo, and don`t seem to be the problem.
    Please, any suggestions welcome.
I have urged Apple politley to give us a fix at:

  • IMessage Activation could not sign in IOS 8.1.3

I recently had to erase my phone and restore from the cloud.  After doing so, I have been unable to turn on iMessage or FaceTime.  I'm receiving an error message when I log into iMessage with my AppleID stating "iMessage Activation.  Could not sign in.  Please check your network connection and try again."
Tons of threads out there about this.  I've tried every solution posted though.  I started simple....
    - Tried everything from http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201422
    -  -  - Confirmed wifi and cellular connections
    -  -  - Confirmed Date & Time was set to automatically
    -  -  - Turned off, restarted, turned on
    -  -  - Confirmed latest version of IOS (8.1.3)
Then I tried solutions from the internet...
    - Turn off IMessage, turn it back on, tried signing into iMessage
    - Turn off IMessage, put on airplane mode, turn airplane mode off, tried signing in
    - All of the above, and restarted the phone
    - Confirmed no restrictions
    - Turned off wifi, tried signing in over cellular
    - Entered correct AppleID and incorrect password, then when it prompted I entered correct password.
    - Reset all network settings,  set up wifi again, tried signing in
    - Reset ALL settings
What perplexes me is how the phone is able to recognize my AppleID in other areas, such as the iCloud & iTunes.... it logs in just fine.  Also, if I put a bogus AppleID into iMessage, it immediately recognizes a bad password.
Somebody please toss me a bone here.

So far, I've called Apple support twice with no resolution.  I have another call in this morning, though I do not know what else there is left to try.
    - We've tried signing my apple id out of all my devices (ipad, ipod, etc).
    - We've tried using itunes to restore the phone
    - We've tried setting the phone up as a new phone, and signing in to only iMessage
I speculate this is related to the latest IOS release; 8.1.3

  • Can't signing in iMessage , (could not sign in. please check your network connection )

I has already enter correct apple id and connect to wifi but it still can't sign in to iMessage and faceTime . the notification shown (iMessage Activation . Could not sign in. please check your network connection and try again )

I GOT IT! I tried all of the other things people suggestions and nothing worked for me. Don't change your DNS.
I had to back up all of my everything, turn off facetime and iMessage, and reset my entire phone under settings>general>reset>erase all content and settings. back sure you back up contacts, pictures, apps, etc. on iCloud and your apple ID because it will all be gone. then configure your phone at sq. 1, and in the first couple steps you're gonna wanna skip registering your apple ID, and then move along until you're at the home page. then go to settings, turn on facetime, turn on iMessaging, try to log in. It should work after your phone has reconfigured. then go ahead, once iMessage is working, log into iCloud and your Apple ID so that you get all your **** back. I really hope this helped... blood, sweat and tears went into the process of finding this answer..
