Imessage - Contact names & No.s gone

Since updating to Yosemite the only issue I have is that the contact name and photograph that was normally displayed in imessage against each contact has reverted to just the mobile number which makes is extremely difficult to use and follow conversations threads. Messages are received on phone and MAC as normal. Is this a Yosemite issue or is there a config I am missing to get the features back ?

Please try each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
Step 1
From the Messages menu bar, select
View ▹ Buddy Names ▹ Show Full Names (or Show Short Names)
Step 2
From the menu bar, select
           ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Language & Region
From the Region menu in the window, select one of the preset regions. If one is already selected, choose a different one, then change it back. Close the preference pane. Quit and relaunch Messages.
If you still have the problem after taking those steps, post your results.

  • IMessage contact names issue

When receiving a notifcation from iMessage, the contact name does not appear. The notification only shows the Apple ID or the phone number of the person messaging me. However, in the iMessage app itself, the contact names correctly appear in the left side bar. This issue only occurs when receing a notifcation.
In addition, when viewing messages in a group thread, contact names do not appear besides individaul messages. Thus, it is impossible to distingush who sent what message in a group thread. Still, the contact names of all those in the group message correctly appears in the left side bar.
The contacts app correctly stores the contact information for the people who are messaging me, so it is not an issue with me not having the correct contact information. I'm unsure of what casued this issue, since it appered somewhat spontaneously after correctly working for over a year.

    Hi,
In the View Menu > Messages > Show as Pictures and Names
If the Buddy lists you have are not on show or are not the highlighted window AND the Messages window itself is not the highlighted/focused window then some of this Menu woill be greyed out.
In this Picture the main Messages window is the focused one and therefore the Buddy List related ones are greyed out.

  • Macbookpro imessage contact names not listing - just numbers

    Hi there,
I'm starting a new thread about this because everything I have read through has confused me.
I just had a new hard-drive installed on my Macbook Pro (mid 2009) and Mavericks installed.
All is great, BUT I can't get names to show up on my iMessage here on the Macbook. It's just phone numbers..
I've checked region and language settings (all was fine) and I have synced and checked iCloud... I've disabled and enabled the account through iMessage... All seems right but just can't get names to show up. My contacts are synced, because I see them in my Contact App.
    Can someone please help me?
    Gratefully,
    Veronica

I found the fix. For some reason, my iCloud account preferences setting (in System Preferences) had Contacts unchecked ... something happened during my 10.9.5 upgrade? Not sure. But, all good now.

  • How to delete the contact name in iMessage memory on iphone5

Please help how can I delete the contacts name under iMessage memory?
Eg.: when I start to sent text messages to person name start with K which even contacts are already been deleted from my
            Contact list still pops up.

After MANY , MANY blogs and discussions and failed attempts I've figured this out. When you go to write a message the contact that was deleted still shows up next to the contact is a letter I with a blue circle all you have to do is tap it then it gives you the option to delete recent contact and lord behold that contact is permanently gone no back up syncing needed or anything !!!

  • IMessage not showing contact names

I just recently downloaded and installed OS X Mavericks on my 2011 iMac and trying to get up and running with the new iMessage app. But there are two major bugs I can figure out how to fix if anyone can help me fix these problems or comment if your having the same issues that would be a big help.
1: When receiving a message from someone in my contacts list/address book, their names do not apper next to the message, but rather only their phone numbers. I have went thought the view options and selected show contacts name and also tried adding a name to the existing number with no results. Does anyone know how to fix this bug?
2: The lag time between SMS/iphone messages and the time it takes to show up in iMessage on my mac is rather long. There is about a 3 minute delay before the text message conversation shows up from my phone to computer. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Re 2).
This is a bit of a "known Issue" with no current fix.
The issue is related to the fact a iOS device seems to get the "first " push of the iMessage and that the Mac only gets "Sync" push which seems to be slower (and for some bizarre reason not always in order)
Re 1) I have seen this reported but maybe not as clearly as your post.
No-one seemed to make it clear the Contacts were in the Address Book (Contacts app) and that it seemed to be ignoring the Names for just the Numbers.
Obviously you can use the View Menu > Messages > Show Pictures and Name (or Show Names)
As you say this should link the ID or iPhone Number being used in the iMessages to the "Real Name" in the Address Card for that person.
    The options are:-
    A) You are receiving an iMessage from an iPhone Number but the link to the Address Card is not working.
If you make sure you are sending to an Apple ID what do you see ? (Apple ID or Real Name or in fact the iPhone number again)
This may be because you have lost the ability to "read" the saved data for the Contacts app.
    B) Check the Contacts app and see if it is Syncing properly with any iOS device (i.e that all items have the Name as well as an iPhone number in the Address Card.)

iMessage displays my email address instead of contact name on other peoples iPhone and everything I try does not fix it!!

whether your number or email address is desplayed depends on how you have Caller ID set.
Settings -> Messages ->Receive At ->Caller ID (chose what you want displayed)

  • Phone number, not contact name, appears for new iMessage notification

I am currently in Israel and using an Israeli SIM card with my iPhone 5C. I have unlimited data so I was told I was able to use iMessage. I am having an issue when talking to just one person. When I receive the banner or lock screen notification that I have a new message from him it just displays the phone number (area code and seven digits, no 1 or +1 or anything). Then when I swipe or tap to view the message it automatically brings me to a new message screen "To" his phone number (also the phone number is showing up green even though it is an iPhone). When I cancel the new message and am then in my Message app and viewing all my conversations, the new message is there under his contact name that is saved in my phone... And messages are blue etc. in our conversation. His number is saved with a +1 in my contacts as I am abroad and the contact name was appearing in my Messages. When I removed the +1 from his contact the phone is not recognizing him in my messages and just shows up as the number. This is very very frustrating. Please help! Thank you.

this issue corrected itself 2 days later, the power of prayer!

  • In iMessage, why does a contact name come up red?

When I'm in iMessage, what does it mean when the contact name comes up red?

So I figured out that red means no iMessage, obviously, but my question is when I add the contact the mobile number and email both have iMessage next to it. I select the mobile number and the name is blue, it then turns to red after about 5-10 seconds.
The person clearly has an iCloud account and can receive iMessages. Just not from my Mac. And I am using it to send other people iMessages all the time...

  • My contact names wont display in iMessage

when i receive iMessages from a specific person  who has iOS5 his contact name is not displayed? but he is on my contact list. WHY?

Take a look at this post:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3460726
The comment about deleting the verizon contact backup worked instantly for me.  I think there is an issue with icloud and verizon both trying to backup contacts.  All I did was delete the verizon data back-up and it worked.

  • Why am i seeing imessage id instead of contact name?

I just upgraded to iPhone 6 and now when I receive an imessage it shows the senders ID instead of their contact name. How do I change it to display the senders name again?

Go to Settings>Messages>Receive At>Caller ID and select your phone number instead of your email address.  If you don't see your phone number and/of you don't see the Caller ID setting, your phone number is not yet activated with the iMessage server (and you will notice that is says "waiting for activation" under iMessage).

  • HT3529 After trying every suggestion on apple support and then finally calling them and being hung up on by a very rude apple operator, Issue is that when sending iMessage my info comes up as apple if email not contact name...I've tried everything online

When sending iMessage from my iPhone 4s it now appears as my apple id not my contact name...I have read and tried every online help tip I could find...I called apple support only to have very very rude apple operator hang up on me while saying is ridiculous to pay to speak to someone to tell me how to solve problem....I am so frustrated please help..when going into caller id my phone number appears but is grayed and only my email is shown....I'm not given option to have my number...in face time settings above my grayed out number says error but no option to change...I've verified my email I've done everything I've read to do please help...and fire your rude operator...thanks

Under Settings > Messages > Receive At, I see my phone number grayed out. This is because the phone number cannot be removed. However, one screen beyond that (tap on Caller ID), then it is not grayed out and I can toggle the email or phone number. Are you sure you are on the Caller ID screen and not the Receive At screen?

  • Contact # showing up in iMessage, but not contact name

Husband has iPhone 4, I have 4S - when I send him a text/imessage, it shows up as his contact #, not his name. Can't figure out how to have it show contact name. I've restarted, turned off iMessage, turned off WiFi. Any suggestions? My carrier is Verizon and after the most recent update, it started doing this.
    Thanks!

I don't have access to a 6.0 system at the minute, but I'm pretty sure order isn't a standard field in KSB1.  It would be in KOB1, of course, but the K*B1 transactions are for displaying actual line items recorded on various kinds of cost objects.
In the reporting scenario, how's the order factor in?  Did it receive statistical postings, or something?

  • My contacts name turns red in iMessage

I Just got a new iPod 5th generation and logged into my Apple ID and set up my iMessage and when I tried to message one of my contacts with an iPhone and iMessage, their name went red and would not allow me to iMessage them
When I try to iMessage my contacts their names turn red

Can you receive Messages from that person? If so can you successfully reply?

  • IMessages don't show contact names

iMessages do not show any contact's names. However, contacts work fine in the Contacts app. The only way to fix the issue is to delete the contact completely from icloud/iphone etc, and add it again. In this case, iMessages will show the contact name. But I cannot possibly do it for every contacts in my list...  Please help.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I couldn't remember if I had so have just tried it and it hasn't worked.
