IMessage sent as iCloud instead of Text

My iMessages were being sent as text (from macbook and ipad).  It is now sending as iCloud...I need it to send as text from iphone, macbook and ipad.

describe what you mean by "iMessage sent as iCloud".  iCloud is a storage service, not for. text messaging.

  • IMessages sent from icloud address/phone number=2 conversations!

This is a long-standing issue that defies resolution. At times, my iphone or my wife's iphone will send iMessages from our iCloud addresses instead of our phone number. So if my wife sends an iMessage to me, I sometimes get a new message from "[email protected]". Although her name, email addresses and phone number are in my Contacts, this new conversation shows up as her email address. We used to think it was because she travels abroad and uses wi-fi in her hotel that caused the phone to use an email address rather than her number because she was out of the UK. Not so! Here's what happened today: My wife sent me and our 2 children iMessages from London Heathrow to us three at home. My message came through as from her email address, my daughter's also came through from her email address, but my son, a few yards down the hallway got his from her phone number.
This is a typical scenario which can work the other way round when it's ME sending her the iMessages where she gets my message as though I'd sent it from my email address rather than the phone number.
I have been through all the hoops I know of to sort this but I just can't fix it. I don't know whether it's the iPhone, iCloud or what that's at fault. But it is driving me mad.
In this morning's case, I replied to her message by using an older (yesterday's) conversation to send my iMessage to her, and her reply to that came to me via her phone number, as expected, and good as gold. Had I just replied to her iMessage, it would have perpetuated the TWO conversations. I have tried logging out and back in, deleting the accounts and reinstating them, re-entering the settings, making sure that the "Start new conversations from..." is set up correctly and so on. Then after a while, it returns, randomly, to sending texts from the email and starts a new conversation again. And you can't combine the 2 conversations even when you go to Details-Add to existing contact etc.
I have also just been informed by a supplier that my iMessages to him are showing up as my email address not my phone number, despite my iphone being set to 'Start conversations from +44777...etc"
Please throw out suggestions as you wish and I'll be grateful, even if it's one I've already tried and failed with.
    This icloud is a nightmare.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Bump.
So no one knows anything about this, or how to correct this iMessage bug?

  • IMessage sent through iCloud email

I recently restored my phone to an earlier state from a few hours ago. After doing so, I sent an imessage to a friend; however the imessage didn't go through and kept saying "sending". I double tapped it and hit "send as text message" and it went through. However, after setting up my imessage setting on my iPhone and Mac, that one friend has been receiving imessages through my iCloud email. But all my settings for receiving/sending imessage's and facetime are to my phone number. The weird thing is, everyone else is receiving my imessage through my phone number, but only this one friend is receiving them through my iCloud and when they try to text my number it goes through as a SMS text message.
Does anyone know a solution for this? I have tried turning on/off my phone after I signed out of imessage and the app store.

I bought a T-Mobile iPhone a month ago and it was already activated when I got shipped to me. I didn't have to actiavte it.
Any T-Monile sim will show the T-Mobile logo when inserted and will show the signal bars . This is so you can use the T-Mobile data signal to activate if you have no WiFi, especially useful for iPads.

  • Switched from iPhone to Android and now iMessage being sent instead of Text

A friend of mine recently switched from iPhone to Android and now my text are being sent as iMessage instead of text and he obviously isn't receiving it. How do I fix this bug. I'm using iPhone 4 running iOS 5

I apologize about the odd style but I'm using voice rec software.  I just got the Galaxy S five and I have this problem too after weeks of searching online I finally figured out the problem it is with iMessage even if you have your old phones imessage switched off. you have to get your friends to text you normally and send. If the text bubble shows up blue, press and hold choose option send as SMS or text and the bubble will change to green green means SMS blue is the iMessage so its up to the iPhone user to take literally a half of an extra step to send a text to you and if they don't do that then they're just jerks

  • Why does my iPhone 4 keep sending emails instead of texts via iMessage?

Why does my iPhone 4 keep sending emails instead of texts via iMessage?

This was driving me crazy but I've cracked it!!
Go to: Settings, Messages, Send & Receive.  My mobile number was greyed out and wouldn't allow me to select it.  My email address was highlighted but it also allowed me to "Add An Email".  I selected my current email address and it gave me the option to delete it.  Once I deleted my email address, it automatically reverted to my mobile number!!
Hip hip hooray.  I can relax at last.

  • I had a contact added mistakenly as an iphone contact now it tries to send imessages to that contact instead of a regular text, any help?

I had a contact added mistakenly as an iphone contact now it tries to send imessages to that contact instead of a regular text, any help?

Something doesn't make any sense here, because iMessage ONLY works between you and anyone using an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5, you couldn't iMessage someone that DIDN'T meet those requirements, if you wanted to. Are you positive this contact does not meet the requirements to iMessage?

  • Friend left iPhone for Android. My iPhone insists on sending iMessage instead of text. Help

So my friend that I text with occassionaly has left Apple for Android (i know right?). Anyway, we had a nice little iMessage session going but now that she has continued texting me from her android, my iPhone insists on replying via iMessage and will not switch to text. I've deleted the thread, deleted her as a contact, restarted my phone, typed in just her number for the text, but alas, it still tries to send it as an iMessage.
    solution? Anyone? Thanks

It doesn't affect what she sends you. What happens is that when you reply, iMessage checks Apple's servers and finds a device active with her phone number, so it tries to send it as an iMessage. iMessage is tied to the phone number as well as an e-mail address.
    Tell her to try this:
    Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
    Click on "edit products"
Click on the "x" to the right of the product.
    Click "unregister"

  • IMessage sent from email address rather than phone number...

I'm having similar problems with my iMessage update under iOS 5.  When I send text messages to other iPhone users, it appears as iMessage and from my email address rather than my phone number.  I went into Settings > Messages > Receive At, but there's no option to add my phone number.  It keeps showing my Apple Account, which I registered under for iMessage and iCloud with my email address.  It only allows me to add another email address.  From what I can tell, non-iPhone users are still receiving my text messages from my number like regular.  If I turn iMessage OFF, I'm sending regular text messages to all users.  Anyone have a fix yet?  I'm wondering if this was an Apple goof that won't be resolved until the next iPhone update.

What I am curious about is, how do I know if what I'm sending is coming from my number as a text message or as an iMessage with my Apple ID.  I'm really asking this specifically because, I have friends overseas who I have been texting..now we have iMessenger.. but how do I know it's not being sent as a text instead (therefore costing me money)? Just because it's being sent using their email?
I've used a Blackberry before, and they have their texting & BBM as two seperate applications with two seperate icons...kinda hoping Apple had done the same  here :/
Any help would be great thanks

  • My iPhone does not always send iMessages to other iPhones who have their iMessages on. Most times I text a new contact with an iPhone first, they show up as regular text messages. How can I fix this?

My iPhone does not always send iMessages to other iPhones who have their iMessages on. Most times I text a new contact with an iPhone first, they show up as regular text messages. How can I fix this?

Yes to receive an iMessage the recipient would need an iOS device (iPhone, iPod, iPad) and an internet connection. This is a messaging serviceprovided by Apple so the recipient does not need to check emails. If the contact does not have internet access at the time the iMessage is sent then a normal SMS through your carrier can be sent instead if you have "Send as SMS" turned on in Settings>Messages.

  • Iphone 4 facetime and imessage OFF but still sending activation text

I have an iphone 4 (IOS 7) with Facetime and IMessage turned off in settings but everytime the phone is turned on, (and randomly while the phone is on) a text message is sent to 447786305094 (activation). This costs me 25c each time. I do not always get the warning pop up warning about the costs.
Why is it doing this when the applications are TURNED OFF in the settings?
Is there a fault with my phone or is it just the way apple does things?
I have tried turning the applications on and off a number of times, resetting the network settings, hard reboot and even restoring through itunes to fresh system.
I do not want to use Facetime. I do not want to use IMessage. I do not want to be charged 25c by my carrier to send a text to activate these applications when they are turned off.
    Any advice is much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanks lizdance40, I do have a text package with my carrier and want to use that only as their data package isn't good so i have cellular data turned off. I have used iMessage before but i don't want to use it with this setup.
The carrier i am using is also 'unsupported' for the iphone, that is why i am getting charged for the iMessage / Facetime activation text. 'Supported' carriers don't charge for the activation text.
I am certain the activation texts are for iMessage and/or Facetime, does iCloud need activation texts? Either way, i also have iCloud turned off.
I just don't understand why the activation/registration texts are being sent when the applications are supposedly turned off.

    Thanks again.
When you log into you icloud account on your computer you are viewing data that you sync to icloud not the backups.  You can't view the backups.
Look at the two links I provided.
You still didn't answer any of my two questions I asked.

  • My young kids have ipads and since I updated the software, but they have their own icloud account, predictive text within their messages shows all my contacts from my iphone but the contacts are not listed as their contacts, how do I stop this?

My young kids have ipads and since I updated the software, but they have their own icloud account, predictive text within their messages shows all my contacts from my iphone but the contacts are not listed as their contacts, how do I stop this?

I have deleted the iCloud account under my name on their iPads and replaced with their ones. Apple support said yesterday I needed to click the small 'I' by each name as it came up in the TO box and remove it. After doing rid for each contact under each letter of the alphabet it should remove them from latest contacts. Having done this, although I could not remove groups I had sent, I am not convinced they will not return once I have written a few texts, any ideas?

  • IMessage sent to verizon phone number not received

My friend has a Verizon iPhone 4S and an iPad.
She has her phone # and email address associated with iMessage on both the iPhone and the iPad.
As of today, iMessages sent to her phone number  (for example, from my AT&T iPhone 5 and everyone else) never appear on her iPhone.
These iMessages, however, do appear in "Messages" on the iPad.
iMessages sent to the e-mail address do appear on both the iPhone and iPad!
This is really bad, as she is not getting any iMessages sent to the phone number on the iPhone  ( that is any text message from anyone on the iMessage network).
Any ideas? This is so bizarre. I can imagine an iMessage getting lost, but why would it just not appear on one device...

SIgned out ALL devices of iMessage
Sent text message to the iPhone - it showed up as a regular green text message as expected
Signed devices back in , starting with the iPhone
Back at the same situation. iPhone not getting iMessages that are sent to the phone #.
I wonder if there is some problem in the IMessage world.

  • Must others register w/iMessage before I can send them text messages??

Must others register w/iMessage befor I can send them text messages??

The need to in order to receive iMessages.  However, if you have Settings>Messages>Send as SMS set to On and you have a messaging plan with your carrier, your iMessages will be sent as normal sms texts to people who don't own an iOS device, or who have not enabled iMessage on their device.

  • HT3529 imessage sent to a user with no wifi connection

If you send a text message using iMessage to another iPhone user who does not have a wifi connection, will the message automatically get sent via the cell carriers sms service to the contacts phone number?  Or does it wait for the user to connect to wifi?  What happens to the message?

    Dear Johnathan and Apple developers,
I oftem use the iMessage with my girlfriend, she has an iPhone 4S and I just upgraded my old iPhone 4 to iPhone 5. We just updated to iOS 6.1 and we are experiencing troubles with iMessage. We often disable the cell data to save battery, but, for example, if I`m online and she is offline (without data enabled or wifi) and I try to send a message to her, the message is sented as iMessage (blue box) that is marked as received, but she only receives the message when she gets online (sometimes hours later). Sometimes I can do a fast manoever and if the message is not marked as received I can hit the blue box and choose "sent as SMS", but if it is marked as received the only thing I can do is copy the message and try to do this manoever again as fast as I can, before the delivery. This troubles happens with both of us.
I expected if she is offline the possibility of sending the message should be only through SMS. Maybe there is some issue with iMessage server that can`t verify if she is online every time.
This is really messing with our messages, and sometimes we receive lots of unorganized messages when we get online. When I was in my Iphone 4 and we were iOS 5.1 our SMS and iMessages were different conversations in each device  (for some reason that I can`t explain). There is any way to do this again in iOS 6.1? Split the conversations between SMS and iMessage?
Sorry for the long text, I`m an engineer and a tried to be the most metodic I could.
    Thanks a lot
