IMovie crashes upon startup after installing Lion
I recently installed Lion from a download. I was able to open iMovie three times to realize none of my previous movies showed up. Now, a week later, iMove crashes upon starting it. I do not have a disk to reload from, and the update manager tells me I am up to date on all my software.
All I wish to do at this point is download my movies from gallery.me.com, but now that I am oniCloud, the storm has started! I can't get to my gallery to download!Nanotechie1992,
Thanks for this suggestion. I have the Snow and the iLife DVDs, so I will attempt the iLlife install first. If this does not work, I will load Snow over Lion. If this doesn't work, I plan on going back in Time to before Lion. If this doesn't work, I have the HD Apple said was bad (it works perfecty well as an external) with the first version of Snow on it. I rebooted from it earlier to create QT movies from my older movie files.
Back in Lion, I attempted to import old movies to see if I can create HD Movie but it crashes.
I will let you know.
I haven't heard the word Nano for awhile. It takes me back to the 60s and IBM! Thanks for the memories! Keypunched cards and big tape drives! I loved to watch the 7074 do a sort! Amazing.
Let's hope this simple step back doesn't too many gigs of nanos!

Imovie crashes/won't import
I had a problem importing video from my sony TRV-250 into imovie 5 back when I first got my iMac. I called APPLE, reset PRAM and thought the issue was fixed because I was able to import. Hadn't tried again until now, and suddenly I find I'm in the same boat. It shows that the camera is connected but won't import, and crashes when I try to control the camera from the iMovie controls. I reset PRAM and that didn't work as it did the last time. I unplugged everything from the firewire ports(camera and ext. hard drive), restarted the computer and tried the bottom port with the top empty and it suddenly DID import, but stopped after 12 seconds and then wouldn't recognize my camera at all. It didn't even show that a device was connected in system profiler. I started over, resetting PRAM and restarting the computer with empty ports, and now it's importing. But it will only work from the top port, not the bottom. Does this make any sense at all? Why do I have to reset PRAM every-time I want to import video from my camera? If anyone has a similar issue or can shed some light on this I would really appreciate it.
iMac G5 20 rev. B Mac OS X (10.4.5)The only thing that makes it work is resetting PRAM everytime. Even then, only 1 of my FW ports will work. The other one always causes iMovie to crash. Unless I have a bad camera, bad RAM, or a bad FW port, it's not anything else on your list because I've checked it. My OS is updated from Thanks for your help. I'm lost.
Also I have updated everything. You mentioned that QT and OS shouldn't be updated. Is this what you meant? If so, do I have to reinstall the OS to go back to the old version? THANKS

Premiere CC crashes upon file import (and everything else)
Premiere Pro user here for at least 8 years. I upgraded to CC, and am running into some very alarming crashes to the point that working on this project is absolutely impossible.
I have done extensive troubleshooting on my own, and I was so frustrated that I actually just completely reformatted my Windows 7 machine. Upon reinstall, I decided to rid my machine of basically everything except for Adobe Premiere. So I am working with a fresh install, and I'm still running into the same crashes.
DETAILS:
I have a big project that I'm trying to import with 80GB of video files. When I try importing them all at once, it hangs and then crashes. I am using two internal hard drives, one for Premiere and one for the video files. Premiere is running on an SSD, and my files are on a 7200 rpm SATA drive.
The odd thing is that once Premiere crashes, it seems to affect the rest of my PC. For example, after the Premiere crash, Explorer is very sluggish and I can no longer even open the video files independently in Windows Media Player. Sometimes Explorer won't open at all after the Premiere crash.
After about 10 hours, I was finally able to import all my files, but the only way I could make it work was to import 1 to 2 files at a time. And even after that, the program crashed constantly, to the point that the project was impossible to work on.
MY MACHINE:
-Windows 7 x64
-12 GB Ram
-Intel Core i7, 3.20 Ghx
-Nvidia Geforice GTX 570
-AntivirusL Microsoft Security Essentials
NOTE:
-I'm running Premiere as Administrator
Do you guys have any ideas on what could be going on? I'm kind of freaking out, since I haven't even been able to start the project yet, and I'm supposed to be wrapping up today. So if you can give me a hand, I would greatly appreciate it.It is. No built-in graphics there to cause a problem.
Unfortunately, that was my only idea. There have been a flood of similar reports lately, but I haven't yet seen a reliable cause put forth, nor a solution. -
IMovie crashes after selcet import
Hi
Today I updated my Powerbook. Some Keynote Updates, iPhoto, Quicktime ....
Now I want to import a file in imovie, but if only select import, imovie crasehs. I repaird premission and also deletet the imovie.plist in preferences, but still the same problem. imovie also crashes if I try to drag&drop and file, for example just an audiofile.
Any help?Hi

I just installed iLife 08 and used iMovie for the first time. It asked to import all videos from iPhoto to iMovie. I clicked Yes. Since then, I cannot open iMovie. It crashes immediately. I am running Leopard 10.5.1 with 2.16 GHZ processor and 2GB SCRAM. I am trying to open iMovie with 970 mb of free space. What is happening? Oh, by the way, I didn't have any videos in iPhoto.
You may be able to fix it by doing this (after a software update check first) I do see you have tried a couple of the items suggested but here were all the things which were suggested and worked for me:
Go to your Home Folder then to Library then to Preferences.
In Preferences go to "com.apple.imovie(6, 7,etc.).plist" and put it in the trash. Still in Preferences go to "com.apple.iApps.plist" and put that in the trash as well. Then empty your trash. Now try to relaunch iMovie.
If that doesn't work then again go to Preferences and delete both files. But now go to iPhoto and open it - BUT hold the apple and option keys down at the same time when you click to open it.
iPhoto will launch and ask you if you want to rebuild it. Select all the options for rebuilding then press Go/Continue. It will take a while depending on how big your iPhoto library is. However once done then go and relaunch iMovie.
The reason you do this with iPhoto is that in the iLife package all programs are in some way interrelated. iMovie draws on items from your iPhoto program when it loads. So by rebuilding it one should then be able to relaunch iMovie successfully.
Hope that helps. By the way, I have been told that on some occasions when upgrading the Quicktime program it can interfer with iMovie, but I am not totally sure why, however repeating the aforementioned steps should again resolve it.
Another solution one had - believe it or not had to do with their display preferences. So go to System Preferences then to Displays. Once there choose Color then select your display then click on calibrate. For some people recalibrating their display seems to solve their iMovie problems.
I hope one of these solutions helps you. If not, believe this or not, if you login to your computer (should you already have another account login created - if not create one) using another account other then your main one, the iMovie program usually launches. This is definitely an Apple Mystery however, you would be able to at least use the program.
Another thing to consider if you are using iMovie 08 is that iMovie 06 if you never used it has a lot more interesting editing options then 08. Believe it or not, the disk for iMovie 08 contains a version of iMovie 06 on it. I guess Apple felt some people would find 06 more favorable to them.
Good luck and long live Apple!!!!!! -
IDVD crashing upon audio import
As soon as I upload an MP3 into iDVD the program shuts down. no trouble importing images or video, or editing text or buttons. This only appears to happen when I bring in a song as background music for a menu.
thanks,
prestondoes this happen with all mp3 files or just that one file?
mp3 files are much smaller than .aiff (the preferred format for iMovie and iDvd).
mp3's also lend themselves to corruption more often than .aiff
my suggestion is to try a different file format and see if you still get the same results.

Premiere Pro CC crashes upon XML import from Final Cut 7 Export
Hello all,
I have recently tried to import a FCP7 XML into Premiere Pro CC 2014, and a few seconds after initiating the export Premiere Pro crashes. Any solution to this???
I Exported on a Mac Tower running FCP7 and then imported the XML on a PC Running the latest Premiere CC v8.1. Could that be a problem in itself?
Also I'm considering a workaround where I move the FCP7 to FCPX, generate the XML then try importing again. Worth a shot?
Also trying this strictly on an Apple computer to import and save before moving to my main PC station. Thoughts?
The sequence I'm trying to import is fairly massive too, not sure if this is why, but it is mult-layered, both in audio and video and is running about an hour in length with several other blocks of video files after that, probably running up to 2 hrs. This should not be a problem, right?
Help! It would be greatly appreciated to get out of the clutches of final cut finally.I am having the same issue.
Your best bet is to logon to Adobe website and go to customer support. If you chat with someone they can go on your computer and trash all your preferences. Your computer will be stable again. It worked great for me, but I just imported an XML from Resolve and it is crashing the system again.
Good luck. -
Premiere Pro CC Crashes upon video import
I just installed CC on my computer. All the programs seem to be running fine, with the exception of Premiere Pro. Whenever I go to import video (either by dragging video over or importing) the program crashes. I went to 'Event Viewer>Windows>Logs>Application' to try and see what the problem was. I could really use someone's help as one of the biggest factors in purchasing CC was for Premiere Pro. This is was the log said:

IPhoto 9.1.1 crashes upon photo import
I've done everything posted and I'm at my breaking point. I've reset the cache, rebuilt the library, deleted the prefs, created a new library, repaired permissions, created a whole new user for the machine, reinstalled iLife, reinstalled OS X. Any other thoughts out there? Error says image not found and Library not loaded?
This is from dragging in a photo, the later one is from iPhone import....

Message was edited by: audisscottThe usual fix for the first crash is to reinstall iPhoto.
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name. On 10.6 those receipts may be found in the Finder using the Go menu and selecting Go To Folder
In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
The second is +not an iPhoto Crash+
It's a crash on a third party app called *Phone Disk*, which uses a hack to access the Phine. Try removing that and seeing if a re-install of iPhoto works.

Motion 4 Crashes upon jpg import: Kern Protection Failure
Hi,
I'm just starting to use Motion 4 instead of After Effects and I keep running into a problem of it crashing, with the error of "Kern Protection Failure" and the crash seems to be related to quicktime components, but all of mine are apple components (I removed all third party components to the best of my knowledge). The crash occurs consistently every time I try to import a second jpg image. Now, this image brings up a complaint of being of too high a resolution for Motion before it crashes. The first image did that too, but did not crash. Only when I go to add another image. Any ideas? Thanks.

...etcOffhand, I'm gonna say that your pics are of too high a resolution, just like Motion said.
You're limited in the size of pics you can use in Motion. Because the program leverages the gfx card, you should keep picture resolutions within the boundries of your card's texture limit. Typically this is 4000px, but can be 2000px with lower-end cards. Some high-end cards have an 8k limit, but most are around 4k.
Also, your pics need to be RGB mode. Grayscale, CMYK, and other modes can crash Motion or create weird behavior.

IMovie crashes upon opening the application or any file created in it.
On the verge of finishing a 4 minute computer, my entire computer shut down. When it came back on, Imovie was useless. I've tried opening it countless time, but I keep getting the spinning wheel. I've forcequitted each time.
I've tried opening the projects directly, but same result.
I've seen instructions to delete the com.apple.imovie.plist files but I can't located them anywhere.
I trashed Imovie and re-purchased and re-installed it.
I'm out of ideas - any help would be appreciated.Hi
There is an easier way to find out if the pref. file is the problem
Create a new User Account
Log into this
Now - retry iMovie
If it starts OK - then trashing iMovie pref. and cache files most probably will help.

Premiere cs5 crashing when I import video files
For video files, just about everytime, it crashes upon initial import. I have to restart the program and then it will be fine until like 10 min later where it happens again.
Sorry, a Serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down
something like that
I have:
6 gb Ram
1tb harddrive
quadcore processor
gtx285 nvidia
built in audio (HD)
Win 7 64bit Home Prem
Dave>1tb harddrive
One hard drive is BARELY going to edit SD material
My 3 hard drives are configured as... (WD = Western Digital)
1 - 320G WD Win7 64bit Pro and all program installs
2 - 320G WD Win7 swap file and video project files
3 - 1T WD all video files... input & output files
Search Microsoft to find out how to redirect your Windows swap file

Trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708?tstart=0 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for SD (Standard Definition) video editing
Steve Grisetti in the Premiere Elements forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856208?tstart=0 and Jim Simon in the Premiere Pro forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856433?tstart=0 use USB externals for editing
A USB3 hard drive connected to a motherboard with USB3 is supposed to be fast enough for video editing (I don't have such, so don't know) but eSata DOES have a fast enough data transfer for video editing... I have not used this eSata Dock... for reference only, YMMV and all the usual disclaimers

Retrieve footage after imovie crash?
I just uploaded my family holiday photos and videos from the cameras and phones to iphoto, deleted them from the devices (can you tell where this is heading?). Then I have opened imovie and automatically imported iphoto videos. I was 10 minutes into creating a project when imovie crashed my entire computer. Now the photos and videos have been lost from iphoto but thumbnails of them still appear in imovie. Is there anyway to retrieve the data of this footage? Thanks
I can look at it in the basket, even watch it, but I cannot get it out of there and back into the project. No dragging ot dropping nothing.
That's very strange. You should be able to drag a clip from the Trash window to the iMovie Timeline or Clips pane. (Try both, if you haven't.)
What happens when you try? Does the clip bounce back? Does it simply refuse to drag at all?
There is one way I can make it bounce back here. It bounces back when I drag a clip from the Trash window of Project A to the Timeline/Clips pane of Project B. Just yesterday I got confused about which Trash window was for what project, and wondered "What are those clips doing here?". Is it possible there are multiple projects open and you are dragging to the wrong project?
Everything else you described sounds normal. If iMovie crashes after you import clips but before you save the project, the clips end up in the Trash. iMovie doesn't know what to do with them when the project opens and moves them to the Trash for you to do with them as you like.
I seem to recall a few reports of a refusal to drag when the project disk — the disk the project is saved on — uses the wrong disk format. If you are using an external disk, see this note, which describes the format to use:
