IMovie freezing when importing events from iPhoto
Some of my events will import while others just freeze iMovie. Is there something wrong with some of the the picture files?
Yes, and you can adjust the time by sliding the Thumbnail Slider at the bottom of the Project Window. You can set it to 1/2 second per thumbnail for very fine editing, or you can set it to one thumbnail per clip, which will show you each slide as a single thumbnail.

IMovie freezes when importing AVCHD from Canon HF20
I've recently bought a *Canon HF20 AVCHD* Full HD camcorder, and am having a hard time importing the footage through iMovie '09. Here's exactly what happens:
1. I connect the USB to the back port of the iMac. The camera indicates a flashing USB symbol and nothing else happens. It doesn't mount the camera drive and iMovie doesn't detect the camera.
2. OK, so I connect the USB to a powered USB hub and it displays the correct message on the camera, mounts the camera drive and iMovie detects the camera is connected correctly.
3. I tell iMovie to import the footage. After a while, the estimated time left begins to increase up to hours long, and the progress bar eventually stops, and iMovie freezes, whith the colored spinning wheel as the cursor.
Each time I try to import the footage, iMovie freezes at different points.
Does anyone else have this problem importing AVCHD footage into iMovie '09 ?
Thanks in advance,
João FaracoWell, judging from the deafening response, posting this question here is pretty useless.

ITunes freezes when importing music from CD and also when playing,
Just recently iTunes has started to freeze when importing music from a CD - it just stops and the progress bar remains as it it. The whole mac then freezes and I get the spinning beachball. I can't use any other application. The same thing is happening when I play music - it's ok for a song or two and then freeze and the beachball appears. I've downloaded iTunes again and reinstalled and it's just the same. Using Safari and Mail etc is no problem at the moment.
I also have a problem getting the iMac to recognise external hard drives - it won't show them on either firewire 400 or 800. I can see my 1TB drive using usb ( it shows up on the desktop, whereas on firewire it doesn't do this) but if I try to open it and see the contents in finder, it opens, but doesn't dispaly the contents of the drive. I can see the disk size but just get a grey spinning wheel in the bottom right hand of the finder window. Timemachine does not work.I have had the same problem & itunes crashes when i try to import a file. Now i can't even start itune. I've reinstalled itunes so many times, without a fix, I've lost count.
I did post and had no reply. I'll watch this post with interest. -
When importing photos from iphoto to Aperture....
When importing photos from iphoto to Aperture 3 it shows two versions of each image. One is original and one is iphoto edited. It shows this for every picture even if it was never edited in iphoto. Has anyone ever experienced this? Is so, what image should I use to edit in iphoto?
This is asked and covered a lot here, a search of the list will bring up numerous other threads covering this. Also the More Like This box on the right side of the page will show you other posts on this topic.
This post, Duplicates when importing from iPhoto is the most recent example.
Briefly iPhoto took even the most trivial change to an image as an edit and created a new image. The most common reason for this is rotated images.
As for which image of the two you want to keep, that's entirely up to you. If there is really no difference between the two then you can keep either it makes no difference.
The thread I linked to above will explain how to use Aperture's filters to gather up all of one or the other.

Duplicates when importing photos from iPhoto to Aperture 3
I have recently purchased Aperture 3 & am trying to import my events from Iphoto to A3 but each event I import has duplicates of EVERY image. Even if I have never edited the photo in Iphoto it always shows 2 photos of every shot? Any solutions to avoid this as it will be too hard to go thru each event & delete the duplicates. Too many!!
When I check my system info it reads that I have 2 memory slots x 2GB (don't really know what that means) and I am running MacOS 10.7.4 yes. I have 63GB of 499GB free so nowhere near 30%. Explains why it is running slow I guess :-)
So you have 4GB RAM, that should do if you do not run many applications in parallel, and you really need to free some disk space! There is a nice utility in the Applications > Utilities folder: Activity Monitor. Launc it and look at the runtime and memory usage. That will tell you if your system is running low on RAM. My MBP profited considerably from an upgrade to 8GB.
I am trying to back up on a WD external drive USB. I don't understand what a firewire port is?
Firewire is a fast connection to external devices, and many external disks offer a firewire cable connection; the port usually is marked by a Y-Symbol:
Leonie, I have read something about duplicate annihalitor (or something like that). Would it pay to run that on my Iphoto first and delete duplicates? Have u used that programme?
I have never used it myself, but Terence Devlin recommends it frequently. It will find exact duplicates, if you imported the same image twice or made copies, but it will not remove the original masters of a version, afaik. Check it out here:
Duplicate Annihilator:
Can I store my library on my external HD and just access it each time I enter Aperture so that my Mac HD doesnt get overloaded?
There is a better way in Aperture:
What I do on my MBP with limited space is to keep the Aperture library on the System volume, but (most of) the original master image files on an external drive. This is what is called a referenced Aperture library. I set the Aperture preferences to enable the creation of Previews. THis way I can browse my images, tag them, and rate them with stars even if I am on the road. The images can be accessed from the Media Browser and used in other iApps or the screen saver. Only when I want to edit an image I need to connect the external volume and to mount it.
To turn an image into a referenced image select it (or select several images at once) and from the main menu bar select: File -> Relocate master(s). Then select a location where to store your masters on the external volume.
I usually import the new images as managed (stored inside the Aperture library) and relocate them to the external volume when I am through with editing. Perhaps this kind of workflow will be suitable for you too. Bt do not forget to backup the master images on the external volume as well.

Léonie

Error message when importing photos from iPhoto
I have been trying to import pictures from iPhoto and when I try to set the duration to about 7 seconds with 240 photos, it says
ERROR DURING IMPORT
The file could not be imported: There is not enough disk space left to import Macintosh HD/Users/........../Pictures/iPhoto Library/2005/07/11/030_30.JPG
Is there anyway I can import all of these files with a duration of around 7 seconds?Hi Seth:
Welcome to the forum!
You might want to run a disk and permissions repair to find that extra space.

IMovie 08 Freezes when importing movies from Sony Handycam
I Have a Sony Handycam DCR-SR65 and when I try to import multiple or all videos into iMovie 08 the computer freezes and I cant quit the application without shutting down my computer by holding down the power button. Why can't I import my movies easily, is there some kind of trick? Most of the time I can import one video at a time, but even then it freezes sometimes.
Thanks in advance,
PaulI haven't got and haven't used one of these, but a little bell rings at the back of my mind concerning similar cameras which record onto solid state memory: try first taking off all the still photos (..if you've taken any..) and putting them in iPhoto and then deleting them from the camera's hard disc or Memory Stick.
THEN try importing the video.
The mix (..if you have both stills and movies..) on the camera may affect importing.
If the stills go exclusively onto a Memory Stick, and don't get recorded onto the hard disc, nevertheless ..try importing those into iPhoto first, and then wiping the Memory Stick.
However, that may not be the cause of your trouble, and others may have better answers! -
IMovie freezing when importing videos
Hi I every time I open iMovie 11 (on Macbook Pro) I get a message, 'movie file can not be found' .I have tried searching for the movie, but when I find the movie, it does not let me click on it. When I cancel the search, iMovie freezes and then I have to force quitAny help would be much appreciated.
Hi
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
• iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
• Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
• Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
• a Codec is used that doesn't work
• problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
• version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
• preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
• other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
• External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
• USB-flash-memories do not work
• Net-work connected hard disks - do not work
• iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
This You do by
_ close iPhoto
_ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
• free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
• external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
• GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
• Screen must be set to million-colors
• Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
• Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
• Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
• Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
• In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)
buenrodri wrote
I solved the problem by removing the file: 3ivxVideoCodec.component. after that, up-dated iMovie runs ok.
Last resort: Trash all of iMovie and re-install it

IMovie freezes when importing video
I am using iMovie 10.0.6 and trying to import video from a JVC Everio GM-HM320BU. I have been importing video without problems for quite some time, but always from the main memory of the camcorder. Recently I had to record some video on the SD card installed in the camcorder as extra memory. I received the error message "iMovie cannot import your selection" and iMovie froze. I had to "force quit" iMovie. After reading a bit, I realized I should have imported the video on the SD card via a card reader and that it cannot be import in the usual manner.
But now I get the same message from iMovie every time I try to import video, even from the main memory of the camcorder, and iMovie freezes. It appears iMovie needs to be reset so it can import video from the main memory. HELP.Sounds like an elegant solution if in fact you have iLife '06 from which to restore. For those of us that have recently purchased an Apple product (because "it just works") this is not a viable option. I'm not going to go out and purchase any previous versions of iLife when I paid for what is supposed to be the latest greatest. Obviously the solution already exists because it was working fine before the last update, seems to me that it should be simple enough to turn back the clock a little so that we can all get back to work. Don't get me wrong I'm happy for you that you've found a solution, I'd probably do the same thing if I could. Right now my strategy is to continue to complain until something gets done, I encourage everyone that has this issue to weigh in. As for now my "work around" is to back to my PC based computer to download and edit all my video. "How do you like them apples", Apple.

I imported several events for iPhoto into Aperture3 and in Aperture it shows two photos for each photo imported, one original and one edited although none of the photos imported were edited. Why has this happened and what do I need to do to prevent this in future. I have only recently got Aperture and am trying to learn as I go along using the Focal Press guide. Thanks for any help.

A photo that was rotated in iPhoto will also show up as iPhoto edited.
This is not what I found to be the case in a recent experiment using iPhoto11- I did repeat it to be sure.
https://discussions.apple.com/message/15586837#15586837
Quickly, what I found is that only the ones I did actual adjustments on brought over two images. Images that were simply rotated, had "quick fixes" or "Effects" did not bring in two images. More importantly, among the ones with adjustments that did bring in two images, the ones with the keyword "iPhoto Edited" appear to be nothing more than iPhoto's 6MB JPEG Previews. The master was a 25MB RAW image.
I don't know why some users are experiencing doubles on everything, but I recommend caution in deciding which ones to remove or you may find yourself deleting masters and keeping previews.

IMovie crashes when importing video from a camcorder
Hello,
I'm using iMovie, and I'm trying to import the video from my camcorder (sony HDR-PJ260VE). But when I clicked the camera button, iMovie crashes.
iMovie does crash every time I try to press the import button. However, importing from video file (on my mac) is fine, there are no problems.

I can only guess. First thing I would do is
• In Apple / System Pref / Accounts
Create a new User Account
• Then Apple menu down to Log out - and log into the new one
Now Start iMovie and directly try to make an import.
If this works - then the problem (to 99%) is in iMovie Pref or Cache files. Trashing them in Your old Account will help.
Else - the problem is more severe. As I only use miniDV tape Cameras - I can only repeat what I've read - and as I understands it one can import from Camera or SD-Card in Finder to Hard Disk (DeskTop) and from here import into iMovie. If this works one can at least get the movie done.

Help - sporadic corrupted data when importing photos from iPhoto
I am importing photos for a slide show, and every once in a while (frequency varies but sometimes as much as every other photo), I have a strange problem. Several frames will just be mixed up colors, nothing discernible at all, as if some of the data has been corrupted. Re-importing the photos usually solves the problem so I don't think it is any problem with specific photos. Any ideas? Thanks!
Using iMovie HD 6.0.2, all other software is also up to date per Software Updateok, next idea:
you're using an iBook => harddrive space is limited...
tell us, how much free space is on your hd...
you shouldn't "overcrowd" your drive, 80% filled should be max,
because all apps use widely socalled "temp-files" - never seen in Finder, but neccessary (you probably have heard of that rule: iDVD needs 10 - 15GB to work smoothly...) -
Looking for advice to get around this problem .. just purchased Aperture 2.1. for my MacBook Pro using snow leopard .

Safari freezing when uploading photos from iphoto to websites such as walmart or shutterfly
What should I do?? Already did a hardware test.
Did you try restarting your computer?
Are you running the latest version of Safari that your computer supports?
Is all your software up to date?
Worse comes to worse, you can install Firefox or Chrome and see if you can upload using those.

Lab Tick App - does your backlight flicker on & off?
I've had Lab Tick installed for about a year now and every time I have turned the keyboard lighting down as low as it goes (off) my keys will all start to flicker on and off after a few minutes, constantly. Does anybody else have the same problem?
