IMovie shared "using quicktime"

Can anyone please tell me:
1) if Macbook can make an iMovie project autoplay when put on a CD? Movies are exported "using Quicktime".
2) A 2 minute movie usually end up being some 50MB in size. Can I reduce file size (for websites) without compromising quality?
Thanks in advance

1) if Macbook can make an iMovie project autoplay when put on a CD? Movies are exported "using Quicktime".
The computer platform has nothing to do with this. Depending on how the content is delivered, the media player involved, and the user settings for the media player, a file may or may not be able to play automatically.
2) A 2 minute movie usually end up being some 50MB in size. Can I reduce file size (for websites) without compromising quality?
You have not supplied enough information to make even an educated guess. A 2-minute, 50 MB file means your average audio + video data rate is on the order of 3.0 Mbps. Since you do not mention the audio or video codecs involved or the dimensions, it is difficult to tell whether or not you could reasonable reduce the file size without degrading the visual quality. A standard definition H.264/AAC file would likely be encoded at half the file size with good to excellent quality and be compatible with most broadband connections for a website use.

Changing frame rate when exporting from iMovie '09 using quicktime has no impact on duration.  Why?
I have a file created by digitizing an 8mm film at a rate of 24 fps. I would like to create a downloaded movie at a frame rate of 15 fps.  The Export using Quicktime option seems to provide that capability but the resulting file has the same duration as the original 24 fps file.  How can I get the exported movie to be slowed down?

    joegez,
There is a feature you can use to slow down the video. In the project, move the mouse pointer over the clip, then click the gear icon. That brings up the Inspector. Click the Clip tab. Then you will see a feature there called Speed. Move the slider to the left to slow down the clip. Or you can enter a percentage in the box on the right.
Hope this solves the problem for you.

  • IMovies - Export Using Quicktime - can't find the finished file - help please!

Please help.  I exported several imovies projects to a designated file on my mac, using Share - Export using Quicktime and then I uploaded them to Youtube.
I did this successfully several times, now when I export a project, it takes about 45 minutes to export it, then I can't find them anymore.
I have read several threads, which suggest looking in the iMovie projects folder and locate your project Right-click to get to "show package contents" and they are not there.
It looks as if it goes through successfully, no errors but this is so annoying as I am wasting hours sharing and then can't find it.  Please help anyone.
    Thanks

    Hi Gee
I originally spent about 10 hours uploading 3 clips directly from imovies to Youtube to a private channel and they couldn't find any signs of my 3 uploads.  So I read threads that said export to Quicktime from imovies and then load them to Youtube that way.  I did that for 3 short, 10 minute videos and it worked fine.  It changed the thread to .mov and it worked.
Then perhaps I changed something (not sure what) but now when I use Export to Quicktime, it spends 1 hour or so doing the motions and completes but when I go to the allocated folder to retrieve it.  It can't be found.  I read threads and this seems to be a regular occurrence but I haven't read any replies that has solved this issue.
    Hope that's clearer.

  • IMovie Export using Quicktime in 1080p gives error OSStatus error -2125

Hi, I am new to using iMovie, started using it few days back.  So far i have been unable to "Export using Quicktime" in 1920*1080p option.
I was able to export using "Export to Quicktime" in 640*480p (.mp4 format) option and was able to use "Export Movie" with 1920*1080p (.mov format) option.
Trying to export using "Export using Quicktime" in 1080p always failed so far.  I tried at least a dozen times with different settings.  Initially i was getting the following two errors randomly, but later, the last 4-5 trials i keep getting only the first error.
    1. OSStatus error - 2125
    2. Not enough room in the heap zone.
Project details are - it is a 34 min. video and size came to 5.3GB when exported using "Export Movie" (.mov format) using 1080p option.
It indicates 2 hours to export it, takes 2 hours and interestingly, the OSStats error - 2125 error happens at the end of the export. I can see in the finder the increasing size of the file the process is creating.  It has been a really frustrating experience with iMovie so far.  I even tried duplicating the project with a different name and tried export, did not help.
I have >300GB of free space on my hard drive and 8 GB of RAM.  I don't have any heavy applications running on the system.
I read forums about this error and tried the following so far with no help.
    1. Tried changing names of the iMovie project few times to see if that helps.
    2. Set the sleep settings of the computer as well as monitor to Never.
    3. Reached out to apple support about it and they suggested me to setthe sleep settings to never and then try.  But that did not help.
I am stuck with this error OSStatus error - 2125.
The settings I am trying with are:
    Export to MPEG-4
    H.264 video format
    20Mbps bit rate
    30 fps
One question is, once I exported a project in one format or setting, do I have to create a new project to export it in different settings or I can just use the same project?
Can someone please help?  Any help about this is greatly appreciated.   Thank you.

I am having the same issue. Have been searchin gfor 3 days for an answer. I am able to export as MOV file, but not MP4. I bought QT Pro 7 to convert THE MOV to MP4 and it doesnt work either. I then bought iskysoft Video Converter and it wont convert the MOV to MP4 either. (will convert smaller files)
I have 700 GB of free space on drive. I have tried a movie that is 3 hours, one that is one hour, and one that is 54 minutes..All same thing.. Error -2125. Although it will work with smaller movies under 30 mins.
Surely there has to be an answer to this? It seems it has been an ongoing issue for quite some time, yet there is no solution.

  • Imovie output using quicktime problem

I need to place a .mov file that I created with imovie08 on a web page. I exported the move using quicktime. After posting on the webpage all of my PC friends couldn't view the movie. Some could hear the sound but not view the video. I told them that they needed to install quicktime, but they are still having the problem. Is there a better format in which to share the movie which has to be posted on a webpage? Is there an easy solution for these folks - most aren't very computer savvy.
    Thanks
    Steve

Thanks for your reply. Actually I can't post a link - the subject matter is somewhat confidential - it is a police training video for reserve recruits in how to write traffic citations. The content probably isn't all that confidential but it would be improper for it to get out into the web. The problem you mentioned is what I thought it would be. I can borrow a PC and see what results I get with it.
The real problem is that 99.5% of the people who are suppose to be watching it are probably running PCs.

  • IMovie sharing using Entourage...

    I'm running iMovie 5.0.2 on a new G4 iBook 1.42 GHz computer.
I'm not having success "sharing" my selected video clip using entourage as my e-mail source.
Here is my step by step procedure:
Select the video clip in iMovie in the timeline.
Select "Share" from the File menu.
Select E-mail from the options at the top of the Share window.
Select Microsoft Entourage from the pull down menu.
Check the box "Share selected clips only"
    Press the "Share" button
The next window shows that the video clip is being compressed
Entourage e-mail program automatically opens with a new e-mail page.
Here is where I don't see anything in the attachment window other than a document labeled "Attachment (Playerpro document)" with a file size of 0.0k
Any suggestions as to why this is not functioning like it should?
My Entourage e-mail setting are correct for sending and receiving mail.
I have not tried the other Mac mail option since it's not my primary e-mail program.
I did try sharing the video clip via Quicktime and then attaching the video clip to the e-mail which it worked.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Jose.

Hi Jose - works perfectly for me too. The steps you take are correct.
How big was the clip you wanted to send? Too big?
Sorry, I can think of no other reason for the problem.

  • Merging projects in imovie, possibly using quicktime

I hope someone can give me some clues here: I have created a series of projects that I now want to merge into one so that I can send it to iDVD. I don't want to just copy and paste into a master project for two reasons: firstly I've found that if a project is too long a lot of the clips are very jerky and freeze for split seconds - very unnerving to watch. (these are video clips taken on a still camera, rather than a camcorder; I don't know if that makes a difference to the jerkiness)
And secondly, I have worked on the individual projects with music fitting each bit, and of course the music doesn't transfer when you cut and paste.
I searched for advice for an earlier project and read that exporting to make a Quicktime movie and then reimporting was the answer, and that worked beautifully.
However, when I did the same on this one, and try to play back the Quicktime movies, there is no sound. I am getting very frustrated and would be very grateful if anyone has any suggestions.
    Thanis.

PS: I don't know if it's relevant; it's iMovie 09; my Mac is an iMac G5 and I have increased the memory to 2GB.
    Thanks again for any help

  • Advantage of exporting using Quicktime?

Just a quick question, what's the advantage of exporting via Quicktime vs. iMovie?

It is all the same. iMovie uses QuickTime.
iMovie provides pre-sets that are useful for most purposes.
The chief advantage of Sharing using QuickTime is you have a lot of flexibility.
    I use it when
    1) I want to share in a codec other than h.264.
    2) I want to share a movie as audio only
    3) In older versions of iMovie, there was no 1080P pre-set, so I would export 1080P through this setting.

  • Exporting using Quicktime in imovie

In iMovie, when trying to export project to make a Quicktime mov, I get an error message saying it doesn't find the imovie event. I've been storing it (and the clips) on an external drive. When I moved it to the main HD, it still can't find it. Do I need Quicktime Pro?... I'm just using the version 7 supplied with the iMac.

In iMovie, when trying to export project to make a Quicktime mov, I get an error message saying it doesn't find the imovie event. I've been storing it (and the clips) on an external drive. When I moved it to the main HD, it still can't find it.
To review the basics... iMovie '08 maintains its own resource database. This is likely needed due to the manner in which it names files during importation. While making "Finder" level changes to the name or location of you resources is immediately reflecting in the hard drive table of contents, such changes do not update iMovie's own internal database and iMovie '08 will no longer "see" them. Where the entire structure is moved manually and all data is left in tact, recovery may be as simple as just "pointing" the iMovie '08 "Event" window at the appropriate hard drive. Other changes, such as changing a filename in the folder may not so easily corrected.
Since you indicate you chose the external drive for the storage location during the import process and made no mention of your "Events" not being visible in this window, as well as, not being available for editing, I would normally assume the internal "database" is not corrupted. In addition, since you stated in your previous posting that the pre-set export option worked correctly, I would tend to suspect your problem is in the "Export Using QuickTime" module itself or in the location/disposition of your "project" resources. You could, for instance, have a bad/corrupted install of the iMovie '08 software or attempted to change something in the "Project" package itself which may be a required parameter for communication by the "Export Using QT" module. These are just initial "guesses" on my part.
Do I need Quicktime Pro?... I'm just using the version 7 supplied with the iMac.
You shouldn't. iLife '08 has its own access to the QT "structures" embedded in the Mac OS and, while nowhere as extensive as the capabilities of QT Pro, do allow for many conversion work flows. You could, for instance, open a file previously shared to the "Media Browser" or exported to your hard drive using the "Export Movie" preset option in GarageBand and see it you can convert it to another QT compression format. If you can, it would tend to support the idea that your problem is limited to the single iMovie '08 export module and not the location of your resource files.

  • Re user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? - I've followed instructions so far so good, until I get to "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?

Re AppleMan 1958 excellent user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? -
I've followed instructions with success until  "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?
I installed MGEG Streamclip 193b8 and used their utility to install quicktimempeg2 and got a message stating it was successfully installed.  (I'm on latest Maverick 10.9.2 on iMac)  Then I dragged the VIDEO_TS file from my home DVD into the streamclip app.  It asked which of 4 files to use, and I selected the first one.  Streamclip played the video with the sound.  so far so good. but now I cannot figure how to use quicktime player 10.3 to export this vob file out of streamclip.

Thank you for your quick reply and for clearing up my confusion.  I'm exporting the first section now.  I choose the smallest size, 3x4 but I'd prefer to go higher as this DVD was originally a VHS home movie.  I'm wondering if after three conversions (VHS,->DVD->MPEG) the resolution will be so poor as to not support a larger size frame?  If it can, what size should I select when I export?

  • IMovie 11 - Export Using Quicktime - File Disappears after Export......

    Hey everyone:
I've got a weird one here.  I've made my first project using iMovie.  I want to burn a DVD, so I clicked >>Share >> iDVD and it comes over fine.  I then setup a menu and stuff and burned it.  However, when I play it on my 52" plasma, it doesn't fit correctly.  It fills the screen, but it's almost like it's zoomed in so it cuts off of ALL edges.
So I did some research and found this post and went to try it out.  So within iMovie, I click "share using Quicktime" and change some of the various settings and export the movie as a Quicktime (.MOV) file to my "Movies" folder.  The movie is about 55 minutes, it says it'll take about 35 minutes to export.
35 minutes later I come back and the export box has closed, iMovie is still open, just like it should be, and the file I just exported is nowhere to be found.  It just disappears.  The second and third time I tried, I open a Finder window and watch the file get created, then get larger, and larger.  But once it's done, the file is gone.
So then I created a new project and made a movie that was only 10 minutes long.  It exports fine and the file is there when it's done.  In other words, I can't replicate the problem with a new project.  However, I have a lot of time in editing this movie and don't want to start over for fear of finding the same result.
    What should I do?
    Thanks!

I have this same problem and there are several threads running about it.  I have the paid-for version of iMovie, and cannot even get it to export a Quicktime movie.  This makes it even more useless than I already find it to be.  I spent the last two days working on a video, and for me to send it to my client, I would have to freight my computer to them so they could view it.

  • Used Quicktime to export iMovie and play on a TV, but getting audio codec error

I created an iMovie 11 project and exported it using Quicktime as a HD movie to play on a one year old Samsung big screen TV. The movie file ended in .mov, which the TV would not recognize, so I changed the extension to .mpg and the video plays fine.
The problem I have is that during the first 3 or 4 seconds of the movie, I get an error pop up on the TV screen that the audio codec is not supported, obviously newer than the TV, right?
So I updated the TV to the latest firmware via Samsung's website and that all went as expected. However, the error message is still there.
The movie is made up completely of still images, so there is no audio to detach, and I can find no other settings to disable the audio portion of the movie.
Anyone run into this before and be able to share some advice, please?

I found that these audio codecs are supported:
    AC3
    LPCM
    ADMPCM (MA, MS)
    AAC
    HE-AAC
    WMA
    DD+
    MPEG (MP3)
    DTS Core
    Voris

  • I just recorded audio using QuickTime, but now I can't use it in iMovie.

I used QuickTime 10.0 to record audio, but now I have no way of using this audio in iMovie. I added it to my iTunes library, but I can't drag it into my project to use as a regular audio file. I can't even convert it to some audio format since QuickTime 10 doesn't have that feature.
Help! I was hoping to create a screen recording demo via QuickTime and overlay it with audio using speech I recorded using QuickTime as well, but now I see I can't. Is there any way to use audio recorded with QuickTime other than just listening to it?!? Seems like a feature that isn't done yet.

The thing is that there is no unlocked phone in the US that is available for purchase.  The T-Mobile phone is contract/sim free and not unlocked and for the unlocked phone you have to wait for at least a couple of months after release before the unlocked phone is available.
That is why you cannot use the phone in the UK because it was never unlocked in the first place if you activated it with T-Mobile.  Sim/Contract free and unlocked do not mean the same thing.  You will have to wait at least 2 months now before T-Mobile will consider unlocking your phone and then you won't be able to get 4G in the UK and you have no UK warranty, only US where you purchased the phone.
Why not buy a new phone in the UK that is unlocked and sell the US one?

  • IMovie crashes when sharing to Quicktime

I updated my iMovie program and now everytime I use it and try to share movies with Quicktime it closes unexpectedly. I can export the movie as a m4v file using "export movie", but I need for it to be a .mov file and I typically use "export using Quicktime". It worked flawlessly until I updated. Has anyone else had a problem with iMovie after updating it? Is there a way to revert back to the previous version? I have called Apple Support and the gentleman that helped me got it to do what I could get it to do, but could not get the movie to share using Quicktime. He said that all of the files are the same (?) and that I could just use the m4v. I am doing work at home for someone else and they need the .mov file. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
