IMovie won't let me import videos from my library!

Hello,
I own an iPad 2 running iOS5 Beta 3 and I have installed iMovie. I have noticed that when I try to open videos and fotos from my camera roll, they will show black. It only lets me shoot fotos from the built-in-app camera. What should I do?
P.S. I have already re-installed the app and even rebooted my ipad.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.
If you have a 2-in-1 adapter, it's not an Apple product.
Try this. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • IMovie won't let me import video files

I have been trying to import MPEG video files from a disc into iMovie and every time I try to do this the Optimizing Video box pops up and nothing happens (I then have to force iMovie to shut down). What can I do to get my video files imported into iMovie?  Thanks for the help!

    iMovie cannot handle mpeg files.
You need to convert thoe files back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • IMovie 10.0.6 won't save my imported videos (from DV camcorder)

I am using this version of iMovie for the first time (I finally gave in and let 9 go), so maybe I'm missing something.  I am trying to import some VHS tapes and I'm using a miniDV camcorder to convert to digital, something I've done a bunch in previous versions with no problems.  The camcorder is connected with firewire to my MacBook.  So in iMovie I click "Import".  Here I can see and hear the tape when it plays.  There is a message that says "Camera Not Controllable", which is expected.  I click the blue import button down in the corner and the message changes to "Recording" with a counter for the time.  All seems great.  When I'm done I click "Stop Import", then "Close" and I'm taken back to the main iMovie window with the events list.  But in the only event, where it should have been saving the video, there is nothing.  I've tried this a bunch of times and created a new iMovie library on an external drive but nothing works.  It never actually seems to save any video.
Am I doing something wrong?  This is really frustrating!
    Thanks,
    Sean

    I have exact same problem.
iMovie 10.0.6 won't save my imported videos (from DV Digital Video Camera JVC GR-D290E).
    I have iMac 27" (end 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2).
I tried to reinstall the previous version of iMovie 9. But the OS can not do it.
Note: At the other my MacBook4.1 (OS 10.5.8, iMovie 8.0.6) same operations are functioning normally.
    What to do?

I'm working to set up my website with iWeb and it won't let me import photos from iPhoto! Whats up?

Will Image capture (in your applications foldr) see them and bring to disk? If so then once they are safely off the memory card and on disk use the camera's format command to reformat the memory card
and can you impoprted to iPhtoo from disk? Will preview open the photos on disk?

  • IMovie won't let me import images!

    Hi-
I've got an extremely old version of iMovie (2.1.2)
From some reason, when I try to import any kind of image (jpg, gif), iMovie won't let me
The jpg file is greyed out when I try to import. I've tried changing the import options to Jpeg file, all importable files, etc. Nothing will let me import.
Anybody had this kind of problem?

    This may be the problem:
iMovie 2 for Mac OS X: Unable to Import Some JPEG and GIF Images
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61414
I don't suppose there's a way to upgrade to iMovie 3 without paying?
No. But, you may be able to find it cheaply on eBay.

  • ITunes won't let me import songs from folders

hey for some reason iTunes won't let me import some songs, but it will others. I've checked and there is no difference between the songs, they're both MP3's, they have the same quality and they're even by the same artist!
Any ideas why and how I can fix it are helpful.

I having the same problem. I noticed that some videos were missing from my itunes TV Shows playlist. Also, when I tried downloading a file into my ipod, I got an error message stating that the file was not compatiable with my iPod. Only I got the file from iTunes! I've tried deleting everything and reloading with the same results. It will not upload several files. Most of which are already AAC. I've tried adding, importing, and copy and paste with all resulting in failure.
This is becoming a total pain in the rear. If it's not one thing, it's another. I mean every since iTunes 7, the bugs keep mounting, and that before I switch to a Vista OS.

  • Photoshop CS5 Extended won't let me import video frames to layers?

I've been searching for an answer for a while now, and I still can't seem to make this work. I'm trying to make gifs. I'm using a Mac and I've already switched my CS5 to a 32-bit version, but the video is greyed out even though it's an mp4 and won't let me import the video.
I've looked through some tutorials, and everything should work. I'm have Quicktime version 10.2, so that should be the latest version?
    Thanks!

I am having the same problem. CS 5.5. Switched to 32bit. Frames are greyed out in the open dialog.

  • Many videos from iPhone that were in iPhoto no longer work and all have lost their thumbnails. It won't let me import videos at all now.

After installing Yosemite many of the videos I had in iPhoto won't play at all. All the videos (including missing ones) now have dashes around a thumbnail shape instead of the thumbnails that were there. When I click on the thumbnail shape of any of the ones it won't play it says "The operation couldn't be completed (OSStatus error -54.)"  These are videos that were there in Mavericks before I installed Yosemite and worked fine then.  Also now I am unable to import any videos from my iPhone or my desktop, even ones that it took before. It says the file is an unrecognized format.
What I want to know is - is this on purpose?  Did Apple suddenly withdraw all support for videos in iPhoto and in the process destroy the ones that were there or is something wrong with my system? Do other people see thumbnails and are able to play videos and import new ones in iPhoto in Yosemite? I wouldn't be surprised if something is wrong with my system since after upgrading to Yosemite ALL the thousands of carefully organized songs in my iTunes playlists were missing and I don't think that was on purpose but the fact that I can't import new videos makes me think this is on purpose.
If this is on purpose, if iPhoto on Yosemite is really no longer able to take videos what can I use instead?   In iPhoto my many videos were organized into folders and subfolders and sub-sub folders.  I can't do that in iTunes and also can't adjust thumbnail size in iTunes so videos take up way too much space there. Any suggestions on third party programs that will let me organize videos into folders and subfolders, etc and see thumbnails at small sizes?  I just need to be able to organize the videos and click them to play.

    THANK YOU!
I noticed this morning a lot of the thumbnails were back that weren't there last night.  It must have very slowly been bringing them back, but the videos that would not play at all were still not working and there were still quite a few without thumbnails.  I followed your suggestion and I'm amazed! That actually fixed everything!  Now all the thumbnails are back, the videos that wouldn't play at all now work fine, and iPhoto let me import the videos that it wouldn't last night .  I hope it stays like that but at least I know what to do if this happens again, if I dare to install any updates.
What does holding down the option key with launching the program do?  I might need to use this again or with other programs.
    Liz

  • HT2479 My Macbook Pro is not letting me import videos from my camera or usb to work on iMovie. How can I fix this?

I recently bought a Macbook Pro because I like working with imovie. The first day that I started working on imovie, I imported some videos from my camera to the computer with no problem. But after I closed imovie and started working on that same project the very next day, the videos were not saved. The editing and music of my videos were saved but the videos wouldn't show. So, I tried to import my videos again and the computer did not let me. I turned off the computer and after a week I tried to import other videos and when I press the import button, it doesn't do anything. How can I fix this? I have version Ox 10.9

What happens when you try to download the new iPhoto and iMovie?  Do you get any message and if so what is it?  What do you mean by "theft of my iPhoto or iMovie"? Who do you think stole them?
One trick to try is to move the iPhoto and iMovie apps to the Trash in the Dock but don't empty as yet.  Then go to the App Store and try to download the apps again.

  • IMovie won't let me import

I was importing a few videos onto iMovie from my video camera and everything was going smoothly. Then my video camera died in the middle of the import. It said I ejected the camera improperly so I took my video camera out of the mac and charged it. I put it back into my mac after it was charged and the import screen on iMovie popped up and I clicked import all into the same folder that I started the import on. The import screen then goes away and nothing happens. The blue clock doesn't appear or anything. I tried importing it into different iMovie folders and the same thing happens. Now if I have my camera plugged into my mac I can watch the whole thing from iMovie and take protions out and edit it but when I eject the camera it all goes black and says camera missing. I tried deleting all the videos and importing them again but the same thing happens. I tried saving the videos to my computer and importing them from my computer it won't let my click on the videos. I've tried EVERYTHING and I have no idea what to do. PLEASE HELP!!!!

  • DynamicLink Media Server won't let me import video for video frames to layers anymore.

I am trying to load a video into photoshop cc (trial) via File > Import > Video Frames to Layers. It has worked in the past, but for some reason has seemed to have stopped working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times, and I've shut down my computer and rebooted it multiple times. I have also looked into the other questions listing "dynamiclink media server" as a problem and have tried to figure out what is wrong, or how to fix it. I have not been able to understand what I should do, so I was hoping someone would know how to help me.
I have a macbook pro, which is about 2 years old. That's all they've told me to list, so thank you if you're able to help!!!

Were you able to solve this problem?
I am experiencing the same on
    Computer Environment:
    MacBook Pro Early 2011
Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6490M 256 MB
    Memory  16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
SSD with 512GB; about 81GB are still free
    Software:
    Mavericks  OS X 10.9.5
    Adobe Mastercollection CS6 Extended, 64bit.
Including the Dynamic Link Media Server Update 1.0.1 are all individual apps up to date as of today, March 9 2015.
    Quicktime Player (v.10.3)
I am also following this discussion Re: trying to import video"Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document"
but non of the solutions under the post #4, #17 either did not work or applied to me, because they were suggested for a Windows user.
    Other notes:
Bridge is not working at all. It launches, but crashes as soon as you see the workspace.
Hence, Mini Bridge in Photoshop is also crashing.
I do have all codecs for the videos, that I was trying to open, though.
It cannot be an issue, that I have not enough RAM.
After several other problems with After Effects, Premiere Pro and Media Encoder, which remain partly unsolved, this post starts form a fresh installation of the whole Adobe Suite. Even used the Cloud Cleaner Tool beforehand and made sure, all presets are from this CS6 version only.

  • Won't let me import video

Flash versions - PC CS4 and Mac CS5
Video encoded with Compressor (codec h.264) then Adobe Media Encoder to FLV
In my flash file I go File/Import Video/ then select Load external video for playback
click Next, Pick the skin, then a bar pops up saying Getting Metadata
Then nothing. Nothing in the Library or Stage. Anyone know why? Hard to think that it happened twice on 2 different machines and OS's.

Flash will let me Embed the FLV but not let me use it for playback.

  • Iphoto won't let me import photos from my iphone5

I go to iPhoto on my Mac Desktop (Version 10.9.3) and plug in my iPhone 5 and it recognizes my phone. But when i go to click to import photos, none of my photos will show up even after hours of waiting. Other iPhone 5's in the house have the same problem. I've been able to import photos before with ease, but now they won't even show up!

With your iPhone connected by USB open iTunes.
When a dialog comes up in iTunes, confirm, that you trust your Mac on the iPhone., when the "Do you trust this Mac"  comes up on your iPhone.
