IMovie won't load iPhoto pictures

Ever since I upgraded to iMovie 09 (from 08), my iPhotos will NOT load to iMovie. Or Garageband or even upload to email for that matter.
What happens is that my iphotos say "loading photos" or something like that, and it just has a little spinner there and NEVER loads the photos for use with iMOvie. During Garageband, it shuts down my computer every single time.
I went to the Mac store and they couldn't figure it out either.
Can someone help me?

Can you view the images at full size in the iPhoto Window?
Where is your Library stored?

  • Imovie won't load my itunes music and photos from iphoto.

Imovie won't load my itunes music and photos from iphoto. This also does not work on my garageband for itunes music. I have tried backing my itunes media and rebuilding but it has not helped. Anyone with a solution?

Note that you have to actually run the update - where you get the window where you have the choices to "Update" or "Restore" your iPod (you'll of course want to "Update"). It sounds to me like you downloaded the updater but did not actually run it to update your iPod.
    Hope this helps.

  • Imovie 09  (8.0.6) does not load iphoto picture library anymore

    I had a double change,
1st: imovie update to 8.0.6 2nd: a new external hard disc for iphoto and imovie (the previous disc died).
since then imovie shows the video's from iphoto in the event library, but does not load the pictures from iphoto in the picture library. it keeps stating loading iphoto pictures, but they never appear
    any idea's??

Hi - I have a very similar problem I think.
Just bought a new iMac and have latest versions of iMovie, iTunes and iPhoto - yes I have checked.
Trying iMovie for the first time - cannot see anything listed where they are supposed to be in the media browser window.
Looking at the intro to iMovie etc it clearly shows the folder structures - I get nothing showing at all.
Reading through the posts here it seems that there is a bug to be fixed.
Had a problem yesterday with my iPhone not showing in iTunes - an update cleared this problem.

  • My iMovie won't load

All of a sudden my iMovie won't load and I get this error msg: Quartz Extreme Required?  Whats going on.  Never happened before?

I googled the Quartz Extreme Required message and got the following response on MacMost:
    Gary Rosenzweig says:
Try changing the screen resolution to something different, and then back again. See if that fixes it. If not, try logging off and back on. If not, try restarting. If the problem persists, perhaps a visit to the Genius Bar.
A number of people said this fix worked for them.
    Good luck..

  • IMovie won't show my pictures

I'm trying to place a still picture in an iMovie for my iPad 3 but iMovie does not recognize any pictures that are on my camera roll or in the albums I've synced to my iPad.  Can anyone help with this?

No, nothing. They just disappeared. I uninstalled and re-installed iMovie and there was no change.

  • IPhoto 7.13 won't load all pictures in library so I must FORCE QUIT

I have tried several times to load my iPhoto library and though it displays some of the photos it hangs when trying to load them all. The rainbow circle just spins and spins. This is rendering iPhoto unusable.
I tried to cut and pasted the error log but it said it was too long for message body.
Also, I noticed that in these later versions of you can't "open" iPhoto into a folder that allows you see the individual files - it's simply the iPhoto Library icon. Is there a way to "open" the library so that you can at least access individual picture files?
Thanks so much in advance for any help you can provide.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to repair permissions in the library.
If that fails then it's likely that you have a damaged library database file. Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
I noticed that in these later versions of you can't "open" iPhoto into a folder that allows you see the individual files - it's simply the iPhoto Library icon. Is there a way to "open" the library so that you can at least access individual picture files?
With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Unix Style Package File. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • IMovies won't load into iDVD

I'm running iDVD 6.0.3 on OS 10.4.9. On the right of my iDVD screen, it says Audio, Photo, Movies, and below this is a window with a folder that says Movies. This folder has a sub-folder named DivX Movies.
So my first question is, how do I get my projects that I created with iMovie HD (also 6.0.3) into that Movies folder?
Second, is it possible to combine two separate movies in iMovie HD and import the whole thing to an iDVD project? I opened one movie and tried to import a second, but got an error message that Quicktime couldn't parse it: -43.
My third question is more complicated. I have a series of movies in various folders on an external firewire drive. Each folder contains 2-3 movies that I want to burn on a single disc, with menus. Last night I dragged one of these folders into the top window on iDVD that I mentioned above, and the thumbnails of those (two) movies appeared in the bottom window. I dragged them onto the Fish theme screen, and the first title appeared at the top in large letters. Below that, it said Play Movie and Scene Selection in smaller text, and below these the second movie title appeared, in the same smaller font size.
Then, when I tried to rename the bottom title, everything disappeared. The top title reverted to the default "Fish" title and jumped to the right, and the second movie vanished. I quit the project and started over, dragged my folder with the two movies into the window again, and now I find that the thumbnails are no longer loading.
I tried one of the other folders which contained three movies, but only one of them appeared. It also doesn't load as a picture, but as a Quicktime icon with the large Q in the center and a small iDVD logo on the bottom left.
Hopefully someone with more experience can offer advice.

Do all of your movies have chapters?
When you drag the first movie (let's call it Movie A) onto iDVD, you will get the 'Play Movie' and 'Scene Selection' options (if you have chapters) on the main menu. Selecting the 'Scene Selection' will take you to a submenu with the chapters(scenes) that you created in Movie A.
When you drag the second movie (call it Movie B), you will get a text button with the Movie B's name, that when selected, will take you to a submenu for Movie B that has the 'Play Movie' and 'Scene Selection' options for Movie B.
Same thing for subsequent movies (Movie C, etc).
    It sounds as if you wish to have all the movie choices on the main menu like this;
    Movie A Movie B Movie C
Play MovieA Play MovieB Play MovieC
Scene SelectA Scene SelectB Scene SelectC
To do this, go ahead and drop in Movie A. Use the ''free position" option for the buttons so that you can place the 'play movie' and 'scene selection' for Movie A under its title.
Then, drop in Movie B. Click on its name to go to its submenu. From that submenu, select the 'Play Movie' text, and COPY. Go back to the main menu and PASTE under MovieB's title. Navigate back to the submenu by clicking on Movie B's title again, and DELETE 'Play Movie' from the submenu. Now do the same COPY/PASTE with 'Scene Selection' and return back to the submenu to DELETE it. Now the submenu has been entirely deleted, and the two movie options on are the main iDVD menu.
    Repeat with MovieC, etc.
Post back if this is not what you are wanting to do.

  • IMovie won't load completely

iMovie 08 had been working correctly on my iMac G5 (ppc) until yesterday. Now when I click the icon it bounces several times, stops when the little blue circle appears below it on the dock and all I get is the iMovie toolbar at the top (most items in the menu are grayed out, except for Import from Camera). So far I have tried the following based on suggestions I have seen here and elsewhere.
    - let it run in case it is slow at collecting movie and picture files from the HD (I let it run overnight)
    - delete DivX component from QuickTime folder (in Library)
    - delete iPhoto plist file
None of these have worked. I'll appreciate any suggestion.

    Nevermind. I found it.
    quit iMovie
    open System Preferences/Monitor/Color
set to any other profile than it's currently set to, e.g. AdobeRGB
    launch iMovie again and voila

  • Why won't my iPhoto pictures permanently delete?

When I go to delete my pictures in my events album, they go into the trash, and then when I try to delete my photos from trash they get sent back into their original albums.
I already tried to restart my Mac, and to delete less than 100 pictures at a time.

In iPhoto you have Events and you have Albums. These are different things. What's an 'event album'?

  • Imovie won't load project file after crash

    Hi All,
I was almost done with an iMovie project, and while I watching the preview, iMovie crashed.
After I opened iMovie again, the project was there anymore. I can see all other projects but the project I want, the one I was working on when it crashed.
I checked the forum for similar problems but no solution worked so far. The file is in the Projects Folder, I can even see the preview a thumbnail of the project.
Here is what I tried so far:
    deleting com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
    deleting com.apple.iApps.plist
Moving file to a different location
    Renaming the file
clicking twice on the file to open
Transfered the file to another Mac (with event files)
Deleted iMovie and reinstalled from AppStore
    rebooted many times
None of this worked so far. The file is there, 13MB, but nothing seems to recognize the file into iMovie.
Mountain Lion latest version. iMovie 11 latest version.
Please help, a load of work was put into this and I need to finish the movie by Thursday.
    All help appreciate it.

There are a number of others here having the same problem (including me), where the project appears in Finder in the iMovie Projects folder but is not listed in the Project Library in iMovie. The project just seems to disappear from the Library.
Here is a link to a recent topic. It includes a post by me where I've provided links to other topics regarding this issue.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21296973?ac_cid=tw123456#21296973
You've given an excellent summary of things you've tried. I've also tried most of those, but haven't as yet reinstalled iMovie. As I have Final Cut Pro X, I also attempted to open the project file in that app with no success. FCP X crashed just after loading, after I had selected from the menu - File > Import > iMovie Project.
You can submit feedback to Apple - from iMovie's Menu select iMovie > Provide iMovie Feedback.
Sorry I can't help you solve this.

  • Any editing done in iMovie won´t affect iPhoto

My problem is a simple one, but haven´r found an answer here. I have a video in iPhoto that i would like to rotate. I have done just that in iMovie, but what steps do I need to take so that the orginal video in iPhoto is rotated as well? There is no save in iMovie so if I click the video thumbnail in iPhoto, it is not rotated. So how to replace the rotated version for the orginal in iPhoto?

Hi and thanks. So for anyone who might have the same problem, export to Quicktime, then choose .mov-format, save to somewhere and drag/and/drop to iPhoto. Sometimes I really think that some of these programs tries to be too smart. I don´t think the wolrd would explode if there would be a REPLACE THE ORGINAL -option in iMovie.

  • IMovie won't load my clip

iMovie should absolutely be able to load it though. It viewed through Quicktime Player and I saved it and went to iMovie to import it, I previewed it and it worked fine and then I clicked import. It then as it should closed the files screen and showed the little window where you can see the progress of the import. But the window only showed up for like a split second before closing again, with my video not in iMovie. I was wondering if it didn't load because the video was very short, like 2 seconds? Could someone tell me what went wrong?

... after editing the clip, I would select it in timeline, choose export/Quicktime/FullQuality (no loss of quality...) and 'selected clips only' and export that edited scene.. now, you have a single-solid file, you could re-import or use with that plug-in ..

  • URGENT iMovie won't load and I have a deadline for today!

Since I updated to Mavericks iMovie has been difficult at the least. Functions not working taking ages to complete even a click of a mouse. This morning however, it totally quit and won't restart. I have a deadline for today and my video is stuck in the bowels of iMovie! HELP!

I have restarted, changed the server to 8.8.8.8 and looked into PeerGuardian but don't know enough to feel comfortable changing anything there.  It worked perfectly for a year and started messing up a few days ago.

  • IMovie won't see iPhoto video

I have iMovie '11 and iPhoto. I have imported a quicktime movie (Quicktime is running up-to-date) into iPhoto. When opening iMovie however I cannot see this movie in the iPhoto movies section and therefore cannot use it in iMovie. I have restarted all: iMovie, iPhoto and my Mac and nothing changes. Help!

Good to hear that you now have the video in iMovie. Importing to an Event allows you to organise your videos much more efficiently than using iPhoto (movies for iMovie; photos for iPhoto).
To see how to organize Events, have a look at this iMovie Help topic, and also check out all the topics listed in the left margin under the heading "Manage Events" (a video tutorial is also included):

  • Since I installed Mountain Lion, my screensaver won't load iphoto

I can't get my screen saver to cycle my photos anymore since installing mountain lion. The computer is also running much slower. I have iworks '09 and a late 2009 iMac.

You need the latest version of iPhoto from the App Store to see images from your library in the screen saver.
