IMovie09 - QuickTime - Youtube problem

When I had my G5 I could upload videos to Youtube with no problem, but he went into a coma so I got a new iMac with iMovie 09...
I made a test video, just 28 seconds, 5 ordinary clips, a little audio added but nothing else and saved as QuickTime movie, then uploaded to Youtube and it plays fine and the quality is reasonably good.
So then I made a 5:26 minute action movie, lots of short clips, some with faster or slower speed, some combining green screen and picture in picture playing on a clip, credits playing on picture in picture in a clip, lots of audio pieces, some transitions, about everything I could think of to combine into one movie (and it actually makes sense and works together in this movie).
So after all that effort I saved the movie to QuickTime then uploaded to Youtube and parts of it plays with a jerky or skipped frame quality. The oddest thing is the scenes that are the most complicated like green screen with picture in picture play fine, it's mainly the scenes that the speed has been changed that are jerky but also some ordinary scenes with no changes or transitions or anything.
I looked at the QuickTime movie of it on my Mac (I should have done that before uploading) and it was jerky too but I think slightly less.
Then I uploaded again to Youtube using iMovie to upload, that version was worse, it kept hanging up then suddenly jumping forward skipping parts of the movie, and this was after the movie was done processing on Youtube.
So I went back to iMovie and tried saving it several times with different settings in QuickTime but they all were jerky. By this time I'm not too happy, all that time spent making my action movie (several weeks), but I decide to try one more thing and I drag the original QuickTime version of it to iDVD to test and it plays smoothly! I burned a DVD and watched it on my TV and it's smooth there too.
How does a QuickTime movie play good in iDVD but not on the desktop or Youtube?
I just have the free version of QuickTime, will QuickTime Pro fix this problem?
Any suggestions about what else to try? I'm getting frustrated.

  • YouTube Problem With Flash

Ever since I downloaded the latest Flash version...Version:
9,0,115,0 I cannot upload videos to YouTube. When I get to the
upload page and click UPLOAD it just sits on connecting forever.
And if I let it sit there for an hour or so it will eventually say
there is a problem with the Flash Player. Any idea on how to solve
    this?

    Hi!
I'm able to see version (9.xxxxxx...something - the newest -
    today updated).
Have horror with flash-based chat. I read in one topic here
in IE problem is not! But i somehow can't login to this service
with IE I had. Now I'm trying to download newer version and will be
checking with it. Futhermore after this check I'll try how it looks
in Fedora (if You Adobe support it - have no idea of this!)
Not only I have this problem. I try on some polish forums and
users write they are experiencing sample problems.
My YouTube problem isn't with uploading (once I tried I felt
too). It freezes on some place and not move even a little. I really
can't remember what happen in a day, when it started but I fell it
takes too long to be a problem with YouTube.
    People say it's Flash.
    P.S. sorry for my english

Got help fixing my youtube problem, now that is working.  In the process of making the fix, lost my aol set up. Re installed it, but cannot access the icon. How do i get my AOL back?

If it's an application, it should be in the Applications folder. If in doubt, double click on the hardrive icon to open it up, then press Command+F (find) and in the window that comes up for what you want to find, type in AOL and it should appear. You can either drag it to the Dock for easy access or make an alias of that, and drag that alias to the Dock. Oh, and just so's you know, this forum is for Desktop macs only. We may be able to answer your question about a MacBook Pro. Same kind of animal, but different breeds.

  • Quicktime encounters problem and must close. Sorry for inconvenience.

I have downloaded Quicktime now 3 times and each time downloaded it again after first removing it from the control panel. Up to a few months ago I never had a problem and used it for many years as such. I think the problems started when the combination iTunes/Quicktime came on the market but I might be wrong. I have downloaded the combination, then Quicktime separately and iTunes separately but to no avail.
I am an amateur in the field of problem soving so ask for your help. I have the icon sitting on the desktop but when I click on it I get immediately the message:
"Quicktime encounters problem and must close. Sorry for inconvenience." What I don't think I had before is the fact that during installing I say the Icon appearing on my desktop and immediately my computer goes black and start
a reboot. So I suppose my problem can be anything.
I most likely messed something up.
    Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

What I don't think I had before is the fact that during installing I say the Icon appearing on my desktop and immediately my computer goes black and start
    a reboot.
That's a bit disconcerting. Are you getting a flash of a blue screen as well?
We can make "hidden" blue screens stick around a little longer by using the following technique:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
Make those settings changes, and try another install.
If you do get a blue screen this time, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)

  • Pro Tools files imported to FCP X causing QuickTime movie problem

Well 2 days later and hours on the phone with Apple tech support Senior Advisors, and problem still not solved. HELP.
Everything works fine in FCP X, but when I create the QuickTime movie, it is way out of sync (by many seconds).
We have isolated the problem to audio files that I am exporting to Pro Tools, processing, and then importing back into FCP X. I can create a QuickTime movie with the original video/audio and it is fine.
    Information
The original video came from Canon HF M40 camcorder: AVCHD (using MPEG4-AVC / H.264 compression codec), MTS format. Audio is 48kHz, 24 bits.
I used ClipWrap to rewrap the video into ProRes 422 and decompress the audio and save as LPCM.
I simply provide this FYI. As I said earlier, the original video works fine and the resulting QuickTime movie works fine. So the original  files imported into the FCP project are not the problem.
The creation of the problem audio occurs as follows:
    - Detach the original audio from the original video, and export
    - Import this audio into a 48.0 kHz/16-bit Pro Tools HD session and EQ/limit the audio
    - Import the resulting audio into FCP X (exact same length file, audio waveforms aligned with the original audio).
This audio works fine in FCP. It is in sync with the video, everything looks great.
I ran Pro Tools at 16-bits because a senior advisor told me FCP runs at 16-bits but does not convert imported stand-alone audio (as opposed to combined video/audio) to 16-bits; thus the Pro Tools session had to be at 16-bits. I changed from 24-bits to 16-bits, and this didn't solve the problem. (FYI, when Pro Tools imports the original audio exported from FCP, it says the audio is 24-bits, not 16-bits).
    What is the problem?
The basic question is why does this audio cause QuickTime a problem?
Something is going on in the conversion to the QT movie. In FCP X, I don't have a way to play with the conversion variables except to set "Video and Audio" and "Use current settings" (which is ProRes 422).
The only difference I see between the original audio and the Pro Tools audio is that the original audio is stereo and Pro Tools works with dual mono files (L & R). The mono files work fine in FCP and I can't imagine why QT would have a problem with these, but I haven't tried converting the files to stereo before importing into FCP.
I should also mention that I selected the stabilization and roll correction algorithms in FCP. I assume these don't create problems in QT. I mention this because I didn't use them when I tested making a QT movie with the original video/audio files.
FCP and Pro Tools are used together all the time to do exactly what I am doing......improve the sound of the original audio. They are the premier video and audio professional programs. Of course, the final product is often not a QuickTime movie, but many times it is a QT movie.
What the heck is going on???
    HELP.

    (1) It is immediately out of sync. It even appears to be speeded up to me initially, but this is subjective. But it is clearly out of sync throughout, not a gradual drift.
    (2) When I create the audio files in the Pro Tools session, the files are automatically stored in the audio folder of the  Pro Tools session. So I don't actually have to go through an export process. I just close the Pro Tools session, then open FCP X and import the audio from the Pro Tools folder.
I'm not sure what additional specifications you seek, other than:
    - wav files
    - sample rate = 48 kHz
    - Bit rate = 16-bits (and earlier I used 24-bits)
    - Files are dual mono, rather than stereo (name_01.L.wav, name_01.R.wav). As I mentioned above, I have not yet tried converting these to stereo before importing into FCP, to see if dual mono causes an issue with QT. It does not cause a problem in FCP. I will try this today if we don't solve the problem.
    (3) I can upload a portion of the audio to a server and send you a link to the file so you can download it. Is there a way to private message on the forum so I can get an email address to send you the link?
    (4) The original video came from Canon HF M40 camcorder: AVCHD (using MPEG4-AVC / H.264 compression codec), MTS format. Audio is 48 kHz, 24 bits.
I used ClipWrap to rewrap the video into ProRes 422 and decompress the audio and save as LPCM.
The FCP Project was set up at:
    - Starting time code - 01.00.00.00
    - Format - 1080p
    - Resolution - 1920 x 1080
    - Frame rate - 29.97p
    - Audio channels - stereo
    - Sample rate - 48 kHz
    - Rendering format - Apple ProRes 422

  • Quicktime X & Youtube problem

    Morning
Last night I filmed/recorded some mates doing an acoustic set, I edited it together on final cut express and audio with logic studio. I've exported it and the .mov is around 850MB for a 3.5 minute video.
I don't seem to be able to figure out a good way of uploading it to youtube! Using the QuicktimeX 'share' it uploads for 10 minutes, then says 'server returned invalid data' and when I try using the youtube uploader it says it'll take over 4 hours! I've converted (using handbrake.fr) to .mkv and .mp4 to see if it helped. Both conversions reduced the file size from 850MB to 250MB (aprox) but when I upload these to youtube (using youtubes own uploader - quicktime doesn't like .mp4 or .mkv for some reason?!) the visuals come out very distorted, with colours flying everywhere and it looks pretty crazy.
I don't know what else I can do!?
    Cheers
PS sorry if this is repeating a post but I'm in a busy period at uni so don't have much time to browse through. Thanks
    Tom

  • Codec for YouTube problem

I'm having a terrible time trying to upload my movie on YouTube with decent quality. The video seems fuzzy, and on some spots even soft-focused and ghosted. I've tried different codec's, including H.264, Motion Jpeg A, Photo Jpeg, PNG. Nothing seems to work. I should note that the Quicktime movie looks fine, but when I upload it online, it looks real crappy. Click on the link below to see what I mean.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ruCwsE-vls
I should also note that I posted another movie which I shot with the same camera, and edited on the same final cut, and it looks fine. Click below.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpEt4rkjn0c
But the new one looks awful. Has anyone had this problem, and what's the solution?

The problem seems to have turned up around the same time that YouTube went 16:9.
I have some older letterboxed movies on YT and they look great.
My 16:9 test, made from the same file as one of those movies looked terrible.
Complain to YouTube. It's not something that you, QuickTime or FCP is doing wrong.

  • "Share" to YouTube problem

    Hello,
My problem is that my video looks really nice on my computer yet when I upload it, or "Share" it to YouTube it looks awful! Terrible! Choppy, blocky, pixelated... I can't make out the faces of the people in the videos. It's just horrible.
I've tried to upload with the different sizes, straight out of iMovie '08.
I've tried exporting it using QuickTime with the different options suggested by YouTube users. Such as H.264, 24 FPS, 1500kb/s, Multi-pass, 320x240 and using the "sharpen" tool.
I've even attempted to use the program called "MPEG Streamclip" with the above mentioned options.
Nothing is working. All of my videos are under 10 minutes, and less than 1 gig. Depending on how I export them or share them, they are generally 500 meg, and in some cases MUCH less. The thing is that they look great on my own computer before I share them, and then after I "share" they look "ok" at worst. But when I play them in YouTube after they're uploaded they look gawdawful; so bad I delete them because they just aren't presentable. The sound is great, but the picture is horrid.
I'm shooting my home movies with a Sony HandyCam HDR-SR5 in Standard Definition Mode. It's "dv" video but I don't do anything special to it. I just edit with iMovie and then try to upload, and that's it. So far it's been less than productive.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it. I'm at my wits end.
    Thank you
    YahYah24

You can view your HD videos in HD up to 1280x720 now. Here's a fun example:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlfKdbWwruY&fmt=22
The key is that that video was uploaded as a 1280x720 video which, as far as I know, you can't do in iMovie '08 yet as it tops off at 640x360. Another key is the ending on the link, "&fmt=22" which tells YouTube to play it as a 1280x720 video. If it's not a 1280x720 video it will play in normal mode with that ending.
However, you can even see your iMovie exported 640x360 videos in high quality mode if the "View in High Quality" option is showing under the video on the right in YouTube or you add "&fmt=18" (without the quotes) after the link.
Not a great example as I used a cartoon mode for the video but you should easily see the difference. This is an iMovie '08 YouTube share:
    Normal low rez: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHwwWotEfXY
    High rez version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHwwWotEfXY&fmt=18
Only difference in the &fmt=18 on the end. If you want higher quality you're going to have to share using QuickTime and 1280x720.
    Hope this helps.

  • Quicktime/flash problems after installing Leopard

I upgraded to Leopard today but now i get Quicktime Question mark appearing everywhere including youtube
    I have Quicktime Pro 7.2.1
The problem appears on both Firefox and safari
I've tried all the previous suggestions but no good.
    Any ideas?

I don't have Leopard but the QuickTime version installed with it is still 7.2 and Apple couldn't have a "Leopard" and "Previous OS's" versions of it. The Preference Panes may have changed but I doubt such a long Leopard "beta" test would have missed something this important.
Those posting here and using Leopard should view the "About QuickTime" window to see the version number. They should also learn how to expand the MIME Settings dialog window by clicking on the tiny disclosure triangle before the word "Miscellaneous".

  • Keynote- QUicktime- YouTube ... argh

I have created a slideshow of photographs, added in some music and then uploaded the file to YouTube.
    1. In Quicktime it plays beautifully
    2. On YouTube it shows only the transitions. Since I had each picture showing for five seconds after the transition, you're not getting to see much of the pictures before they dissolve out.
Anyone know how I might solve this problem?
You can see the video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrzA2WjTRik

Thanks for taking the time. I have been away. I squeezed a QT file, converted it to flash; it played in a flash player, but when I wanted to upload the file, the webserver wouldnt accept it; and it always registers as a sqz file, instead of swf. I changed the extension, but that made no difference. I will try dropping it into safari and see if that works. (I am using Sorenson because Keynote export to flash does not allow transitions etc.)
I also tried modifying file name in Sorenson. Maybe its a webserver problem. (I find Quicktime actually produces smaller files and that ftping it to the server with a link works best, but flash has more browsers.)
    Thanks,

  • App store and Youtube problems

Hello, I have a 2g iPod touch which I have started having problems with the last week or so. I can open the app store, browse through all the apps and view them. I can access my iTunes account, but when I press the updates tab in app store, it comes up with the message "cannot connect to itunes". Also when I try to download an app, it won't download, it just appears and says "waiting..."
I also have the problem with the YouTube app. I cannot view any of the tabs at the bottom. It just comes up with the loading screen and then says cannot connect to youtube. I can access the YouTube website through Safari but when I try and play a video it says the video cannot be played.
I have updated to the latest software (3.1.3) tried restarting, and restoring my iPod but nothing seems to work. It could be a problem with my Wi-Fi or internet, but I couldn't access the app store at my friends house, using his Wi-Fi either.
Anybody had the same problem or got any suggestions as to how to solve it?
    Thanks in advance.

If you read my post I mentioned that I restarted (turn on and off) and reset (restored to defaults), I have the latest software 3.1.3 and I have reset the network settings.

  • Quicktime Pro, Problem Converting Video to iPod

When I convert my movie files using Quicktime Pro I encounter a problem. After the converting is over the video works on my iPod, but the audio track is lost and there is no sound. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks
    -Jason

Check to make sure it is not a muxed mpeg by opening the source file in QT Player and looking at MovieInfo in the Windows menu. If it is a muxed mpeg you will have to use something other than QT since it will not export the sound from mpegs. Some people have had good results with this freeware, but there are other Windows programs starting to appear for iPod conversion:

  • Quicktime (& YouTube & Monkey mag) all broken all of a sudden

Hi, I have an iMac 20" Intel, running OSX 10.4.9. Yesterday everything seemed fine with my Mac, but today Quicktime (and pretty much any embedded video playing within Safari) has broken. The only difference I can think of between then & now is that I installed Delibar, the toolbar menu system for accessing del.icio.us bookmarks, and the Social Bookmarks plugin for QuickSilver, which may or may not be a red herring.
When I try to view files on YouTube or in Monkey Magazine (a weekly men's mag along the lines of Maxim or FHM, published online using a flash-based reader called Cerosmedia) the videos play for a couple of seconds without any sound, then freeze - no more gets downloaded or played. Returning the video to the start & waiting doesn't fix it as it used to. Strangely I can still play the .AVIs I took of my son in his school play in Quicktime.
As a precaution I got rid of QuickTimePlayer.app & reinstalled from a .dmg I downloaded fresh from Apple. I did the same with Flip4Mac too. No difference. Also, when I open up QuickTime, it doesn't play the intro vids, it just skips over them to the start page & then when you click on a video link it tells you An Error Occurred (well, yes, bud what kind of error?) and gives a reference number which varies each time the error happens (once per attempt to open a video), which I assume it to record the incident rather than to describe its cause...
Can anyone tell me, how does one completely rip out and reinstall all of QuickTime and all of Flip4Mac so that when it's reinstalled it'll copy all files to your HD without leaving any old ones intact? Or is there an easier solution?
I'm a bit of a Mac newbie having only had them since a year or so ago (love them btw) but I'm quite comfortable dealing with Unix.

    Apple Discussions!
Did you repair permissions and/or restart after you installed Delibar & the Social Bookmarks plugin for QuickSilver?
Also, see Knowledge Base Article KB article - No sound from some applications, but system alert sounds play (Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4)
Another trick: If you have GarageBand installed, open it (maybe open a GarageBand document) and then quit out of the application.
If none of the above works please post back.

  • ITunes / Quicktime Video Problems With Windows VISTA

I took up Windows Vista as soon as it was available and initially had no problems with iTunes. Then later, video clips (those purchased from iTunes and those I had converted myself) started stuttering / freezing and eventually crashing iTunes and finally I lost audio as well.
Ayyway to cut a long story short, I have uninstalled / re-installed Vista now about eight times for problems with installing drivers for USB devices (I've finally solved all these problems). After the last install the first program I installed was iTunes, tried video and it worked flawlessly. Then, each time I added a hardware device or program I would restart Vista and retry iTunes video.
The first item I added was a USB thumb drive (as I had on all previous occasions to take advantage of Vista's 'Ready Boost'). The thumb drive is a 'Sony 2GB micro vault tiny', and meets the transfer speed requirements for 'Ready Boost', as soon as I had set the drive up for 'Ready Boost' I started having the same problems with iTunes video and Quicktime.
Removed the thumb drive, restarted iTunes and had flawless video playback again. Have tried this over and over with the same result.
So my question is, has anyone else had video playback problems with iTunes / Vista and found similar problems. Trying to tie down whether this is a compatability problem with 'Ready Boost' or the thumb drive used. I have also tried a Sandisk Titanium 2GB with the same result.
I am not sure exactly how 'Ready Boost' works, I thought it added memory that was used to cache page files to the thumb drive instead of to the HDD making a faster seek /access time? Which should make things faster. Another article I read today was talking about 'Ready Boost' being an affordable extension to RAM, in this case I could understand the problem as I would think the access to a USB 2.0 thumbdrive would be slower than that to RAM.
Any help appreciated, but I guess my bottom line is anytime I want to watch video on iTunes, I just pull the USB thumb drive .
PC Pentium 4   Other OS   Windows Vista Home Premium

I have the same stuttering video issues with iTunes and Vista. While I have used a thumb drive to transfer files (not Sony) I have not yet messed with Ready boost. I have seen several others complain about the video problem, perhaps they will chime in as well. Unfortunately, your solution doesn't work for me. I pretty much ignore iTunes, waiting for the next version (only god knows when it will be released).
I do have an external firewire drive connected, I'll disconnect later today and see if that has any affect.

  • Vdpau and full screen youtube problems on Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M

I have Nvidia NVS 140M on 64-bit Arch. I am trying to find perfect configuration for my Thinkpad with no luck.
I used to have nouveau drivers, now using nvidia-173xx. The problems are following:
    1) YouTube videos:
    - with nouveau I was not able to watch any video (it was like a slideshow)
    - with nvidia everything works fine.
I'd prefer nouveau than nvidia, because of KMS.
    2) Glxgears
As far as I remember, you can check if acceleration is working, using this tool - CPU usage should be not changed after glxgears started. On both drivers (nouveau and nvidia) running glxgears process uses 100% CPU.
    3) vdpau
According to this thread, my card supports vdpau. I can not make it to work.
