Import 1080/50p from Panasonic TM900

I saw, that there have already been some discussions about importing 50p footage with FCP X in this forum.
In particluar I found one thread
No 1080/50P support.. WHY?!
where I understood, that import should work from a Panasonic camera, at least when there in only 50p movies stored on the card.
Though:
I am still not able to import the 1080/50p from my Panasonic TM900. When I plug the camera to my MAC, open the import window in FCP and go to CAM_MEM (the internal memory of the TM900), it shows some files in the file list. In particular one file named AVCHD (which, according to the size seems to be the file where the 50p footage is stored). But all these files are displayed in grey and can't be imported by FCP (I use latest release 10.0.7).
Does anyone have same experiences or (even better) a solution ?
Seems strange to me that it works with some Panasonic 50p footage (according to thread mentioned above) but not with my TM900.

At the end, all your responses plus some further testing gave the solution:
The problem was, that I used the built-in memory of the TM900 camera rather than an SD card.
I now tested with an SD card and situation is as follows:
- 50p footage on the camera built-in memory is NOT recognized by FCP X - the import window shows the folder
structure instead of clips
- 50p footage on SD card & Camera with SD card plugged into MAC via USB:
again the 50p clips are NOT shown in the import window
But finally there is a solution:
- 50p footage on SD card and SD card directly plugged into card slot of the MAC:
in this case ALL clips (50p as well as AVCHD 25i) are shown in the import window as expected and can be
imported without any problem

One more point, where probably one of you can help me:
It seems that with the 50p footage I now definitely have to use optimized or proxy media (which I never did before), as my MAC is not able to play the 50p clips in the preview without lost frames.
As I'm a bit struggeling with disk space, I would prefer to use proxy media rather than optimized, but of course I don't want to have any quality loss in my final movie.
Did I get the following right ?
If I switch back to "use optimized or original media" just before exporting my movie, FCP will use the original media for the export, even if all the cutting workflow was done with the proxy files ?
Or will the us of proxy media in any way influence my final movie.
Happy to receive any confirmation on that topic and/or probably a recommendation, what is best workflow to deal with the 50p footage that brings my MAC to its limits.

Will I be able to import 1080/60P from my Panasonic TM900K directly into FCPX?

I understand that there are limitations with the codec in importing 1080/60P video in native format, directly from my camera. I've seen comments that this may be remedied through Final Cut Pro X, but have yet to see any definitive response. Can anyone confirm that FCPX will handle direct import of full resolution video without converting or reducing to 1080i or less?

Surround sound from Panasonic TM900 in to FCP X?

Just bought a Panasonic TM900 and I've been having a little play. AVCHD files (but not 1080-50p) are recognised by FCP X, and can be imported using the 'Import from Camera' function. All seems well except for the fact that FCP X reports that these have 2-channel stereo audio rather than the 5.1 surround sound that the camera records in. I have imported some of the 1080-50p files via ClipWrap and FCP X reports that these have 5.1 surround audio.
If I play both types of file (the regular AVCHD and the 1080-50p) in the VLC Player it reports that both types have 5.1 surround sound (AC3).
Why am I only getting 2-channel audio for the regular AVCHD files that I import from the camera directly in to FCP X? Any ideas?

yeah, luckily i am working with single long clips so i don't have to do it that often. it's a lot of work, true, but it does work and so far it's the only solution i've found.
i do find it a bit strange that apple doesn't let you "optimise" the audio in the same way as for video. Meaning, to convert ac-3 into whatever format it wants to edit audio in. in can encode ac3 during export, so why not decode it on import?
There's a section in the help manual that says you can specify mono channels to specific surround channels, but i've never been able to get it work, but now that i reread it, it does say to do it in the timeline. I've always tried it in the event browser. So it might be worth trying in your case.
You need to first have the configuration be 6 mono channels. Then, supposedly, you can specify each mono channel to be a surround channel.
Select the clip in the Timeline.
In the Channel Configuration section of the Audio inspector, choose an option from the Channels pop-up menu.
To assign a mono channel to a specific surround channel: Select the mono channel waveform, and choose a surround channel from the Channels pop-up menu.

Import .MTS files from Panasonic HDC SD700 ( AVCHD )

Does anyone know how to import .MTS files with FCP7?
I have already tried it via the log and transfer way, that does not work for our .MTS files, even when I do it the same way described on this website for importing AVCHD footage from SDHC cards via the log and transfer.
Is there maybe a codec missing? Adobe Premiere can use the .MTS files natively.

The SDHC card gives 3 folders: MISC, PRIVATE and DCIM when I keep the original order and don't change anything in the folder it says when I use log and transfer-> adding files ->
"MISC" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
All the properties shown after adding the files are 00:00:00:00 and I cannot play or preview the files in the log and transfer screen

Problems importing AVCHD clips from Panasonic GF1

I'm having problems importing clips from my new Panasonic Gf1. FCE (4.0.1) sees the device ok, and selecting and previewing the clips in the log and transfer window works fine, but once the clips are in FCE (converted to AIC) they play fast in the viewer or when placed in the sequence. Strange, because they play fine in the preview window before importing. Tried this in iMovie 08 and get the same effect.
I'm can convert them Toast to AIC and they work fine when imported to FCE but this is not my preferred workflow.

I tried using Toast Titanium 10 for conversion as suggested but there was a slight issue with synch of video and audio. So I downloaded and bought Voltaic HD as suggested elsewhere and the AVCHD files of the Panasonic GF-1 are now playing in Final Cut Express 4 without issues - I am editing with no problem. Given that I can use the Log&Transfer Window (Final Cut 4) for my Olympus EP1 and my Panasonic HD video cam, it's odd that the files of the Panasonic GF-1 don't work in Final Cut (yet), but at least I am back editing. Voltaic HD was $35, a doable expense.... it does work flawless (so far).

Problem importing video clips from Panasonic SDR-S10

Hi, can anyone help? In iMovie I try to import my video clips from my Panasonic Camcorder SDR-S10 and it shows clips there, but when you click on them the clip icon disappears. Try to import and it doesn't import anything? Any ideas.
Anyone know a workaround for importing clips from this camera I get a lot of problems with a Mac when using this one.

I have the same camcorder and have used Visual Hub to convert the .mod clips to .dv files which work just fine with iMovie. You can try out Visual Hub for clips less than 2 minutes in length in the trial mode. I think it costs about $20. Also, I've heard you can buy an mpeg2 plug in for Quicktime Pro that will let you use those files. I think that is also about $20.
Also, search the apple discussions for ".mod" and you'll find a lot of other similar questions to the one you asked.

I have a Panasonic TM700 and am not sure if Premiere Pro CS5 can edit my footage and if it can, what preset should
I use. (my computer handles the raw footage perfectly, I just don't know how to edit it)

Start a new project
Start a new sequence
Select custom and put an own name there (e.g. TM700)
Select TM700
Select the "general" tab
Enter the settings
   editing mode = desktop
   time base = 50 frames per second
   frame size 1920:1080
   square pixels
   progressive scan
   display format 50 fps
Start editing your video
When finished select: export - media
Export settings: match sequence settings
That is it!

Importing 1080p video from panasonic hdd-sd600

looking to import the video. All online forums suggest downlooading various pieces of s/w. Is there any other way?

With the new iMovie (version 10), you can import directly into iMovie. Also, with Final Cut Pro X, you can import directly.
If you have an older version of iMovie, like Version 9 (also known as iMovie 11) or prior, you need additional software, like ClipWrap or Voltaic HD.
iMovie could always import 1080P. The thing that makes it hard is to do it at 60 frames per second. Older iMovies can import at 30 frames per second, but only the new iMovie can import from this camera at the full 60 frames per second. The extra software converts it from 60 frames per second into a usable form. Get the new iMovie and you don't have to worry about it.

Importing into iMovie from Panasonic GS300

I am in the process of purchasing a Panasonic GS300, but I am not sure if it will work with iMovie. I have seen posts that indicate there could be a problem. Although Consumer Reports says it does not have a FireWire port, Panasonic says it has a mini DV In/Out IEEE1394 which is another name for the same thing. Does anyone have any direct experience with this camcorder to know whether or not it will work?

Thanks for the response. The Panasonic website lists that it has that port. Apparently Apple no longer maintains a list of compatible camcorders. I would still like to hear from someone who has had success with the Panasonic GS300 and iMovie.

No 1080/50P support.. WHY?!

As good as FCPX is, why after over a year since release can it still not support 1080/50P?

I can confirm that FCP X 10.0.5 and some earlier versions can import 1080/50p from my Panasonic SD800 perfectly.
HOWEVER, there is one proviso . . . you must not mix normal AVCHD footage with 1080/50p on the same card.
1080/50p must be the only footage on that card.

1080 50p importing problem.

I have imported 1080 50p avchd into fcpx but it plays back at practically 25p with missing every other frames (like a freeze-frame of the previous frame) but some of it has imported correctly from the same card and camera. It says it has imported it all at 50fps, but it clearly hasnt. Same problem with 720 50p files, some fine, some wrong. Does anyone know what has happened?

Can't import MP4 from Panasonic GH4 into Premiere CS6

Can't import 50Mbps MP4 from Panasonic GH4 into Premiere CS6 but I can import it into CC. Any workarounds to get it into CS6?
Another odd thing is that I can import the 50Mbps MOV from the GH4 into CS6 but can't play it using Windows Media Player (for quick review before importing) like I can the MP4. If someone knows how to get the MOV from the GH4 to play with Windows Media Player I'd start using that format instead of the MP4. Odd thing is that the 50Mbps MOV recorded with my GH3 can play in Windows Media Player.

I updated to the latest version CS6 and that solved the MP4 import problem. Still working on the other issue.

I was just reading some of your post from earlier threads. You're right, it's TM700. My mistake.
Please let me explain my challenge: I'm on this forum as a translator for a non-English speaking videographer who uses a collection of new camcorders, including Panasonic TM700. I'm relatively familiar with Final Cut Pro but not familiar with TM700. I understand that he's shooting ACHDV files in the 1080p60 format, and he needs to be able to edit that footage using FCP 7 and then output the result on a Blu-Ray disk.
He asked me to ask here on the Forum, what is the most effective way to get the 1080p footage from Panasonic TM700 to FCP;
He also wants to know if there's a way to create an easy setup for a sequence.
What would be the best codec?
Any other questions I should ask here to understand the topic completely?
Should I make a new thread with the correct title so that other people find it easier to find the information?
Would appreciate your advice.

FCS 1080 50p incompatibility question

I was seconds away from clicking the add to cart button on a Panasonic HDC-HS900 camcorder when its manual finished downloading from their website - so I took a look...
For as long as I remember, I have always prefered shooting in 25p at 1/25 or 1/50 - it's just so much easier on the eye - but that is aesthetic and subjective. Sometimes I like to use slow motion effects for various reason and found in the past that using a 50% speed on 25p SD gave an acceptable slow motion effect. But I want to move on from SD and I am checking out various HD camcorders. I figured that using 50p footage would allow me to slow down to 25p to produce a much improved slow motion effect - and maybe I could still push it a little further if I wanted.
It was at this point that I accidentally read in the manual that 50p footage was incompatible with Mac software. It only named iMovie but that was enough to stop me in my tracks and start searching for more information. I found nothing but bad news insofar as my slo-mo plan - but the short story is that 50p is not compatible with FCS.
But before I give up on this camcorder, I thought I would ask if there is a way to import 50p HD and slow it down to 25p for use in FCS.
Any thoughts?

Well, after several days of consideration, I finally ordered the Panasonic HDC-HS900 but it was not without a great deal of bewilderment - wondering why what had become a virtual industry standard video editing application does not support the top end of consumer HD video.
After having migrated from Premiere to Final Cut almost ten years ago, I already had reservations about the way FCS was going with the release of FCX which, when I tried it out, felt like a retrograde step to try to pick up ambitious iMovie users. I somehow got the impression that FCX was a totally different product and that FCS would still be developed but it seems that I was wrong.
Having then discovered that Premiere does a number of things which FCS does not and now that it imports 1080 50p video without any third party messing around, it seems that I will be migrating back.
I'm sure it will not be without a lot of catching up and I may find at some point that either the migration to Premiere is too problematic or that Apple update FCS.
