  • How do I Import Bookmarks from one profile to another ? I have tried searching online but I can find no "bookmarksbackups" folder and no "places.sqlite" Thanks

    Hi,
I was wondering how to Import Bookmarks from an old firefox profile to a new one ? My laptop stopped working but I managed to copy my firefox data from the mozilla appdata folder. I want to now copy my old bookmarks to my new firefox profile on my new laptop. I have tried searching online for guidance but most methods mention a "bookmarksbackups" folder and a "places.sqlite" file. However, I can find no "bookmarksbackups" folder and no "places.sqlite" file. Among the files in profile I am trying to import FROM are a "bookmarks" html file(which seems to only contain the default firefox bookmarks) as well as "places.sqlite-shm" and "places.sqlite-wal" files. Although, the NEW profile on my new laptop I am trying to import TO DOES have a "bookmarksbackups" folder and a "places.sqlite" file.
I would be most grateful for any help received. Many thanks in advance for your help and for your time

    f458italia,
Per your screenshot - you don't have the /bookmarksbackup/ folder nor the places.sqlite file - your bookmarks don't exist in that old Profile. ''cor-el mentioned another file that is missing, so that Profile wouldn't have been operational.''
Are you sure that you don't have another Profile for that user account?

  • Import Bookmarks to New Computer

I just got a new Mac Mini. How do I import or transfer the Safari bookmarks from my old Mirrored Door G4?

    HI,
You need a Firewire cable if your G4 has a Firewire port...
and use Firewire Target Disk Mode
On the G4, with Safari open, from the Menu Bar click File/Export Bookmarks. Save that file to the Desktop. You can then move that file in TGM to new new Mini.
After you have transferred that file, launch Safari, from the Menu Bar click File/Import Bookmarks.

  • Transfering Bookmarks to New Profile

I've been having script errors for some time, and to such an extent that it makes my browser nearly useless. I've used QuickJava only to some success. Anyway, I tried to create a new profile and transfer my bookmarks, and current browser layout, and add-ons to the new profile using information from the forums, here. It seems that all my add-ons were automatically transfered, anyway, but even after manually transfering copied files of bookmark back-ups, none of my bookmarks or browser layout were transfered.
Can someone help me with this?

Try restore your bookmarks from the json file in your old profile:
    *[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them#w_backup-and-restore Backup and restore]
To restore your layout go to your old profile copy the file '''localstore.rdf''' and paste in the new profile folder.

  • Last pc was destroyed and need to import bookmarks to new pc

Last laptop had water damage and was destroyed. Have new laptop but when installed FF, didn't move old info to new PC

hello, do you have any sort of backup of your data? if so you can [[Recovering important data from an old profile|recover personal data from your old profile]]...

  • I had to create a new profile in Firefox and now, I can't access important data such as bookmarks which I desperately need.

After two days of not being able to open Firefox, I found an article on this website which suggested that I create a new profile. I followed the instructions (which never stated that I should first backup Firefox or my old profile) After creating the new profile, Firefox is once again working fine but, I am unable to access important data such as bookmarks and history.
I have followed several suggestion on this website but, I am still unable to find my old profile content.

As long as you did not uninstall Firefox and remove personal data, your old profile still should be in the same location. Depending on how messed up it was, here are two options:
'''(1) Use the profile manager to start Firefox up in your old profile and create a fresh bookmarks backup.''' If it didn't run, this won't be useful.
To start in a different profile, Exit out of Firefox and start it up from the Start menu, search box, using
    firefox.exe -P
Your old profile may have a name like default.
Then you can create a fresh backup or export of your bookmarks (or both) to a neutral location (e.g., the Documents folder). These articles have the steps for creating these files:
    * [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]
    * [[Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks]] (note: does not preserve tags you have assigned to bookmarks, if any)
Exit Firefox, use the profile manager to return to your new profile, then you can either restore the bookmark backup or import the HTML file. The difference is that a restore completely replaces whatever exists now, while an import adds to what you have now.
    * [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]
    * [[Import Bookmarks from an HTML file]]
    Success?
'''(2) Restore an old bookmark backup.''' Firefox creates these files regularly, but it might not be perfectly complete.
To access the old files, I suggest starting from your current (new) profile folder. You can open that from within Firefox using either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window showing your ''current'' settings files. Using the address bar of that window, click up to the Profiles folder level and then double-click into your old profile folder, then into its bookmarkbackups folder. Copy the latest backup file to a neutral location (such as your Documents folder).
Back in Firefox, try to restore the older backup. Note: this will completely replace your bookmarks in this profile, so if you have saved new bookmarks you want to save, please perform the optional steps in the following list:
    * Optional (preserve new bookmarks): [[Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks]]
    * [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]] - use Choose File to go to your Documents folder to get the old backup
    * Optional (add new bookmarks to the restored set): [[Import Bookmarks from an HTML file]]
    Success?

  • How do I move bookmarks from an old profile to a new profile?

I have created a new profile for Firefox and have a huge amount of bookmarks in my old profile. How can I move the bookmarks from my old profile to the new one? I have tried backing up my old bookmarks and then restoring them on the new profile's bookmark library, but this didn't work (the file wouldn't show up and when I put it in a folder to force it to show up it wouldn't do anything). So how can I do this?

  • I created a new profile to fix a crashing problem and now I can't get my bookmarks.

Creating the new profile has fixed my crashing problem and I copied the recommended files and folders from my old profile to my new one but I still can't get my bookmarks. What am I doing wrong?

These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.
These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your

In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild

It will also make backup of files that you choose.

  • I recently had to create a new profile, and thought I had backed up my bookmarks. They are now gone and I have not been able to restore them. Any chance they can be recovered? Thanks!

I recently had to create a new profile, and thought I had backed up my bookmarks. They are now gone and I have not been able to restore them. ANy chance they can be recovered? Thanks!

It is possible that you forgot to add a file extension (.json) while saving and in that case you may be looking for the wrong file.
Also make sure that you search for hidden files and folder in case the file was saved in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder]
Firefox won't import the file without a .json file extension ("Can't process ..."), but you can create a backup with any name.

  • New Computer Profile Created, Lost all My Previous Bookmarks! How can I restore my previous bookmarks from a past computer profile to my new profile? IE bookmarks were not erased, just my Firefox bookmarks.

I was having problems with my Windows 7 computer, and HP assisted me in creating a new profile, and then deleting my previous profile (I'm the only user on my laptop). Unfortunately, I did not save my Firefox bookmarks - didn't think to do this! So, I have lost all my bookmarks. Is there any way to retrieve my old bookmarks from my previous profile, and install them into my new profile? IE did not suffer this same fate - all my bookmarks (albeit different ones and not as extensive, unfortunately as FF bookmarks were) are still intact.

Oh no :/ Unfortunately, if you deleted the old profile without saving, my hopes are slim to none on this, but we can try!
Try to search your computer for the file "Bookmarks.html". You can see if it finds it from your old bookmarks. If that doesn't, try looking for "places.sqlite". If you already have Firefox set up with your new profile, you may find the new versions, so make sure you check the dates of the files that are found.
You can read [[Recovering important data from an old profile|Recovering important data from an old profile]], which has more tips.

  • Unable to export bookmarks.html, tried safemode, new profile.

Windows XP Sp3 long time Firefox user. Had no trouble until version 12.0.Tried safe mode, new profile, complete uninstall /reinstall of Firefox 12.0. Cannot export bookmarks. Also Internet Explorer 8 will no longer import directly form Firefox as it used to. Probably because HTML bookmark isn't being created.

Start Firefox in -> [[Safe Mode]] to check if your add-ons/extensions are causing the problems.
    * Also see this article -> [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
While using Firefox [[Safe Mode]], perform the suggestions mentioned in the above articles provided by me and '''jscher2000'''
Check and tell if its working in Safe Mode.

  • I recently changed from IE to Mozilla. I imported all my bookmarks to Mozilla but can't add new bookmarks to imported bookmarks. Can someone please help me?

I have used IE browser for many years and have collected hundreds of Bookmarks there. I recently changed over to Mozilla browser and imported all my Bookmarks to Mozilla from IE. The problem is whenever I try to add a new Bookmark to the Bookmarks I imported from IE it won't allow me to add new Bookmarks there. It only allows me to add a new Bookmark to Bookmarks Menu, Bookmarks Toolbar, Unsorted Bookmarks, or create a new folder. It doesn't give me an option of adding new Bookmarks to the Bookmarks I imported from IE. I would like to keep all my Bookmarks in order and not have to switch back and forth from new Mozilla Bookmarks and the Bookmarks I imported from IE. Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks.

<b>NOTE: </b>You are using an outdated version of the Firefox program. For the best browsing experience, update to the most recent version.
    Please, try the following:
    # Press <code>Ctrl</code> + <code>Shift</code> + <code>B</code> when Firefox is open
    # In the Bookmark Library, locate the folder containing your imported ''Internet Explorer'' bookmarks
    # Select all of the imported bookmarks and <i>Cut</i> them
    # Paste them into the <code>Bookmarks Toolbar</code>, <code>Bookmarks Menu</code> or <code>Unsorted Bookmarks</code> folders
Please report back with the results of the above solution.
Thank you for using Mozilla Firefox!

  • How do I import Bookmarks from my old hard drive to the one in my new mac?

How do I import Bookmarks from my old hard drive to the one in my new Mac? The old drive is installed in Bay 2 of my new Mac.

    Hi
Home/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist is the file you want. Use a copy, just in case & do it with Safari quit.

  • Can I import bookmarks for Mozilla from the harddrive from my previous PC (now in an external enclosure) to Mozilla on my new PC?

My previous PC's motherboard died, but the hard drive was not damaged. I am retrieving many of my documents and photos from that drive, connected to my new PC by USB cable to an external case containing that hard drive. So that I can continue with my old Mozilla Bookmarks, what can I copy to my new PC and to where?

If the old system was Windows you can copy your old profile to your new profile after wiping out the content within you new profile.
You can restore all of your application files, not just Firefox, and make a mistake, you can start over or whatever it takes, nothing to lose right now that you haven't already lost or misplaced everything so have everything to gain from what you recover. I recovered all of my data from my old laptop it took awhile, it's a lot easier to work with the old stuff if you can still access the data. I certainly left some things off of my backups.
If you've been backing your files, you also have the opportunity of seeing whether you backed up everything you needed -- kind of sounds like you are relying on the old drive, at least keep track of what you restore.
Kind of the opposite of what you are doing now, see

  • When I click a backup date to restore bookmarks from backup, get error message "unable to process the backup file". unable to successfully copy bookmarks from default profile to new profile, nor access the backup function successfully. any suggestions?

I had trouble with WiseStamp and was advised to create a new profile. I did and the WiseStamp issue was resolved. However, I now have no bookmarks on the new profile. I copied the places. file from the old profile to the new one, but with no success. The bookmarks do exist on the old profile. I like having WiseStamp working, but need those multitude of bookmarks more! Any advice greatly appreciated. :)

Did you try to restore from another JSON backup?
You can try to move places.sqlite to another location and only leave that backup file in the bookmarkbackups folder.
