Import & Export_Really Messed Up !!!

Not sure what happened...
…but something’s gotten screwed up really bad w/
both my import AND export settings in Flash (running Flash MX Pro
2004). I was in the process of importing a .MOV movie (created in
Sony Vegas Movie Studio (v8.0), to be exported as a .SWF (out of
Flash…to be published to the web, in order to be displayed on
our band's MySpace site).
I know my .MOV export out of Sony Vegas is OK, 'cause I can
preview it in QuickTime; & it plays & looks great. But when
I import it into Flash, I know something is wrong right away,
'cause the display window reads: "current selection cannot have
actions applied to it". And when I hit the Play button...all that
can be seen is a solid white screen...there's no content, no
transitions...no nothing. If I go ahead & export as a .swf, all
that get’s exported is a white screen…no movie.
What have I done wrong?

BTW - The movie I'm working w/ is a dynamic photo montage,
where I placed photographs of the band side by side by side; &
then added transitions between the still images. The only reason I
went back to redo the montage because it was too large in file
size; which prohibits the loading of tables on our MySpace page,
until the movie fully streams. I was looking for a way to decrease
the file size coming out of Vegas; & then this happened.
But...like I said...the .MOV out of Vegas plays & looks just
fine.

OK - this is really simple.
Just open the one folder with the data files you changed (hopefully in one folder or the user's home directory)
Do a get info - and make the permissions as you like. Then click the "apply to enclosed items"
As you see - the diskwarior only fixes a corrupt directory and permissions repair by apple only fixes files installed by the system - not individual data files that a user created.

PC to Mac: Copy ok, import a mess

With a new Mac, I've copied all my itunes songs, etc from pc to mac into a new folder on the Mac desktop. I then ran File->Add to Library to load the songs, etc. I presume this copies from my desktop folder to the proper itunes folder.
However, when this is completed:
1. The original purchased songs on the new Mac (about 15 of them prior to the pc copy) are now missing in Purchased.
2. While all the songs from the pc are copied into Music, all the playlists are nearly empty.
Is there a link to the obvious way to import songs from pc to mac? Multiple attempts on resolution are driving me nuts.

Hello. This is going to take a while to explain, but thank you in advance if you are brace enough to tackle this problem.
This is how it started..
I had an itunes library already and it was perfectly sorted etc. I don't know what was going on behind the scenes in terms of music folders etc, but in itunes it looked great. Then I took some music off my friends mac. Basically I wasn't thinking at the time so I should dragged and dropped whatever I wanted into myhardrive without creating a folder or anything (Like i said i wasn't thinking). Then when it came to putting the new (1000 songs approx) onto my laptop I stupidly just command + A'd my entire harddrive and copy and pasted it into itunes. So needless to say everything in my harddrive, like my past back ups of my mac etc, went into my itunes. It took hours to transfer over by which time i was starting to realise my mistake and sobbed whilst leaving it on over night to finish transferring.
Anyway thats the first catalyst in the construction of this mess..The plot, unfortunately, thickens.
My itunes obviously had ALOT of duplicates and through running a little experiment with a song i didnt care about losing i noticed that if you 'display duplicates' and delete all the duplicates this doesnt leave ANY copies of the song in itunes, which is beyond annoying and almost makes the feature redundant, for my needs anyway. I also had all the random mac 'sounds' and random things that shouldnt have been in itunes due to me copying EVERYTHING from my harddrive into poor itunes.
So I recruited some help from a friend. This was his plan: Delete everything in itunes, go back on time machine and back up itunes from there so i was back to the position i was in before transferring everything from the harddrive and then going back into my harddrive and importing the music in a more organised, less hasty manner. So he backed up my itunes as it was just incase something went wrong. This took a good half hour and he named the folder 'new old itunes'. Then he deleted the contents of itunes and went backin itunes to my last back up and restored itunes. However this is where things start to go more wrong. There was lots of stuff missing, as if the back up hadnt worked. Like the albums would be incomplete etc. So we went into the folder mentioned above 'new old itunes' and in there too there was music missing. If you clicked on an album it would be empty or only have 3 tracks when there should be like 15 or whatever.
Anyway he had to go, so i started doing some investigating and the music is still on my mac, just in random folders. so one particular song for instance wouldnt be in my itunes, wouldnt be in the back up, wouldnt be in the 'old new itunes' but if i searched for the track name in finder i would find it in other folders.
I know im getting a bit sketchy on the finer details but im not 100% what my friend did, this isnt his fault just itunes and mac acting funky but its even worse now. Anyway I seem to have multiple copies of lots of music. The music from the import that messed everything up is still on my mac in random places and needless to say, due to all these duplicates all over the place, my mac is full to the brim so i need to delete stuff but am unsure of what is safe to delete!
There is probably stuff i have missed out that if you suggest something to me i might reply saying that i have tried that and explain why it didnt work, please dont think im being rude. I've spent many hours trying to sort this and i think i have probably inadvertently messed it up more! I have delete the folder mentioned above, but it is still in my trash so could get it again, but as mentioned it is incomplete anyway.
If someone has any clue how to solve this i would be very very grateful, im so sad about it. I like having my itunes all nice!
Basically i want all the music, pre-mess up and all the new music on my harddrive to be in my itunes all nice and stuff.

Well, indeed that does not sound like a fun situation to be in. But, it is VERY good you are using Time Machine.
Let me explain, that there are two options when it comes to storing files in iTunes. When you import files, it will either leave the file in its original location on the hard drive and iTunes will know its location, or it will copy the file and store it in Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/Artist_Name/Album_Name/, IF you have the option enabled titled "Keep iTunes Media folder organized."
I imagine you have it set to copy everything into the iTunes Media folder, which explains why your hard drive is filling up. Otherwise no extra space would have been taken up.
Therefore, my recommendation is this:
Quit iTunes first. Then navigate to ~/Music in Finder, then Enter Time Machine. Restore the ENTIRE iTunes folder in that location from a previous backup that occurred BEFORE this whole thing happened. Depending on how much space you have left on your hard drive, it may be wise to first delete the entire current iTunes folder. The restore could take a long time, depending on how much data you have in iTunes.
This will guarantee you get back to a previous library, exactly as it was at that date and time. Yes, it may be a bit overkill but it is by far the simplest solution. Hope that works!

Import a word document composed in Arabic font (.ttf) into a .fla

Hello Everyone;
I am developing an advance e-book in Flash. My client has composed about 500 books in arabic using Microsoft Word. My client wants search features in this book in which the user will type something in arabic & it will search the ebook text and give him results, so I cannot convert the text into vector or image I have to keep it as text. I want Import a word document composed in Arabic font (.ttf) into a .fla file without losing its formatting. Rightnow I am able to import the font using copy/paste from the word document into Flash, but it changes the font, but I fixed it by changing the text property from "classic text" to "TLF text" which fixed the font. Even though the copy/paste method works without formatting its not practical for my project because there are thousands of pages and copy/pasting them one by one frame by frame is time consuming & not practical.
I need a method or a third party software through which I can convert the word documents into fla or swf keep the font as text & very important without messing up the font and formatting.

Aperture not seeing iPhoto Libraries on external drive when trying to do a REFERENCED import.

I am trying to bring all my iPhoto libraries (one for each year) together into one REFERENCED Aperture library. I have the iPhoto libraries on an external hard drive and want the Aperture Library on my main drive. Whe I go to the Import window I do see my external hard drive on the list of drives, but the files do not show up. It shows folders and any readable files in the folders, but not the iPhoto Libraries, which are not in any folders. I am running out of space on my hard drive, so want to do a referenced import, not a managed one, but I can't seem to get it to work. I have tried doing the copy drag and drop method (holding command+option and dragging and dropping from finder to Aperture, but it still copies the whole library to the main drive, it does not reference it). Help, please!

Aperture will not show you files in libraries in the import panel. iPhoto libraries are not imported using the import panel. Importing the files using the import panel would result in importing a mess of thumbnails, previews, and originals, and you would lose your organisation in events and albums and probably most of your metadata tags.
You import iPhoto Libraries as library:
File > Import > Library
If the library you are importing is referenced, it will be imported referenced, if it is managed, the images will be imported managed. You can relocate the managed originals to your external volume directly after import using the command "File > Relocate originals"

I have an active AppleID that has typo in name so Email can not be verified???? Help

I changed the Primary email for an appleid. There was a typo in the email address. this makes the appleid waiting for verification. I spent five and a half hours with support before they understood the problem. Once we both were talking about the same thing, we successfully reset the password and I was able to apply updates/upgrades to Apps. I followed supports instructions which is not how I normally update my second appleid apps. Their instructions caused the active support chat session to be terminated and no log was produced. This being my first time with chat support I did not know how to reestablish the connection. I applied all the pending updates to apps. Once that was compile I performed maintenance to the apple and corrected the primary email address. I DID NOT KNOW THAT ALSO CHANGES THE APPLEID. it set status back to waiting for verification. I'm locked out again. Before I spend more time with support, I need to ask other users if they know how to fix this. I think I know a way from everything we did that day, but would like some users to also say how it can be done. The reason it took so long before was support did not believe what I reported as error messages and generated email text. If you have found a way to do this Please reply. . I will then have information so hopefully support will listen to me and not take more than a short time to resolve. If no one knows a way to fix this, I will try to identify all apps affected and backup data, delete app and rebuy with my working appleid. Yes I now know the importance and mess created when appleid primary email is change. Thank you in advance. .

Index error in bin

Hello people!
I just had a project refuse to save any changes I made in the mixer (add new busses etc). From nowhere, I was given the "index error in bin" message, and also "minor change of project data has taken place".
There is an archived discussion on this topic here
I am in the middle of trying to import the messed up project into a new project, using the import function.....
Anyone else had this come up?
I'm on Logic 9.1.6, but went from 9.1.3 just recently, and can't be sure when this corruption actually occured - before the update or after.

Help! my Aperture help menu is grayed out

I'm just getting my brand new Mac Pro set up, moving from a 2 1/2 year old Macbook. I have a long unsolved problem of having several libraries and their related vaults crashing, rendering inaccessible about 15,000 referenced images and their vaults. Typically what happens is that an Aperture library I've been using for a while quits almost instantly after opening, and the library's vault(s) can't be accessed at all. I've spent perhaps 30 1 To 1 training hours and many hours on the phone with appl care on this problem, and I'm very grateful for all their devoted effort, but we haven't had any luck understanding, much less solving, this problem.
The first time it happened, the library had 6 gigs of images in it from a weekend of shooting. I thought that having 6GBs free (of 55) might have something to do with it, but it kept happening to later libraries even after there were 25 GBs free. With each new library it seemed they would crash at a smaller size, even 1-2 GBs. So my strategy evolved into creating new libraries every few days so they wouldn't crash.
Has anyone had a similar problem and fixed it? Generally most of the folks helping me don't seem to think it's a computer problem, or a software problem, for that matter. Some think my camera (Nikon D70) might have been sending out an occasional corrupted image, but the crashes have continued with a Nikon D 300 I bought new a month ago, making that theory seem very untenable. I'm hoping that using the beastly Mac Pro will help with at least part of the problem. I needed it anyway because my shooting has become pretty high volume recently (3,000 12 MB images per week).
Any suggestions on a fix or a strategy for importing this mess into the Mac Pro? It sounds like the safest way to import is by project. I have about 20 libraries, about 5 of which are crashed, and about 100 projects. I'd really like to have the recommended 1-3 libraries, but it's pretty daunting to think of losing all my metadata and edits to a single crash.... Thanks for your interest.

Songs cannot be found?

I just upgraded to Vista and I had some songs on their that my Dad didn't import onto Vista.... >_< Luckily, I burned them onto a CD. Well when I tried adding them to iTunes, I got an error that said something like "Songs cannot not be found in iTunes Store. Import anyway" Well the tags are gone. I think they are ID3 tags I'm not sure. Well there is over like 3 hours of songs that I really don't want to listen to and fill out all the blanks and find the albums artwork.... If you are confused I'll give you an example:
I have some songs on a CD like Holiday and What I've Done etc. I put the CD into iTunes but nothing is there. It doesn't say the name of the song, artist, or anything. I had a similar problem when I used XP. My dad downloaded some music that he calls heavy metal and what everyone else calls Alternative and I wanted to add it to my library but I got the same error.
It's not a critical error I'll just have to go through 40 songs and do every detail. I like my iTunes to be nice and organized with everything filled out.... I'm a nerd
I am editing this in HTML for some reason... but... I forgot to add I don't know the names to 3/4 of the songs... Especially the 10 from Black Rain.
It stinks I spent like 4 hours editing those songs and now they aren't edited. =[ Some of them were really nice edits, too.

That's what I would do; drag any songs that you've messed with back into the library. This shouldn't take all that long because the songs files are still on your computer, so it's not like you're copying them from an external source. After you've re-imported the songs again, you can locate duplicate songs under the edit menu. Once selecting this option, you can organize the songs by date added, and only delete the songs imported before the day you imported the messed up songs. Once the messed up songs have been reimported, you'll want to delete the songs files from the folders that wasn't in the iTunes folder.

Will resetting time capsule erase my backups?

I can no longer so backups on my time capsule. If I reset it will I lose my backups on it?

But here is something else that may be much more important. Messing around one night with my MacBook Pro and trying to make it so I could share files back and forth with my wife's MacBook Pro, I went into the permissions settings on my root directory and changed them. It made my system unuseable at the time and I had to reinstall my Operating System, Snow Lepord. After that install is when I found out I could no longer back up to my Time Capsule.
Seeing my wife's MacBook Pro gets the same message as mine, could it be that somehow it changed things on my Time Capsule? What's odd is I have full access to the Time Capsule over the network, just can't use the Time Machine.

For 'Read Only', I meant the application was imported with build status of 'Run application only'.
I know how to export the application, but I don't know how to include all the database objects within the export. I am still trying to learn that part. Could you give me some quick steps, or tell me where to read in the user guide.
More details about my issue --
I created a user 'Viewer' without developer or administrator permission using admin account. I imported my application as Run application only, and I try to use Viewer to log in to 'Application Express Login' page, which requires workspace, username, and password. And this is where I got 'Access denied by Application security check' message.
I am thinking should I use 'Viewer' to log into the ''Application Express Login' page at all? Should this user be at least a developer?
One last question: Where can I find this message 'Access denied by Application security check'? It does not seems important to mess with it, but I am just curios about where does this message come from?

Puppy Linux (or derivative) for old machines?

I haven't used this one much, but it certainly seems like it (or a derivative thereof) might be useful for aging computers. It has udev scripts that let you mount external drives without HAL (kind of like Vector's VLHot but less crappy); it's light, it's fast, it's easy to install, and it has a ton of simple graphical config utilities. And it can do pretty much anything that a novice user would want. In general it looks absolutely perfect for old computers.
There are two big problems I can see with it though.
1. It's far too cutesy. It doesn't look "unprofessional" or "cobbled together with duct tape", it looks like something designed by kids for kids. Which would go over fine with kids, but not so much with less computer savvy adults, I'd think. Nobody likes to have their intelligence insulted, and IMO that's what the branding does.
I figure it would be possible to strip out some of the more gratuitous puppy branding, but I'm not sure exactly how right now. I'd have to get familiar with the puplet creator scripts (apparently called "Woof", because Barry Kauler had to make it fit with the general theme I guess). Anyway, I don't think this should present *too* huge an obstacle.
The other though...
2. Portions of the Puppy community appear to be nuts. And I don't mean "we stand by our tradition of running outdated software as root" nuts. I mean just standing there when community members send bloody THREATS to people who dare criticize Puppy Linux, and then accusing the critics of being delusional when they complain to the community. That's unacceptable. If I create a Puppy-based live CD, I don't want users to wind up with a community like that for support, because it will at best fail to provide.
That could be somewhat harder to work around. Does anyone here know which Puppy-related forums are the sanest of the lot, if any?
More importantly, is messing with this distro a smart move, or will it turn out to be really, really dumb?

I've recently messed up my Mac OS X Lion by deleting Aperture, but I need to get my data out of the computer. And by the way, I've got an important project in Final Cut Pro X. Is there any way I can back it up (including fxs and positions of the clip) ?

I've recently messed up my Mac OS X Lion by deleting Aperture, but I need to get my data out of the computer. I've tried to repair it using DU, but it said I needed to backup all my data and reinstall the OS. How do I backup my data to an external drive?
And by the way, I've got an important project in Final Cut Pro X. Is there any way I can back it up (including fxs and positions of the clip) ?

You need to back up 2 folders, Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects which by default are located on your Movies Folder. You can always check by clicking on a clip inside Fianl Cut X and selecting Show in Finder in the contextual menu for the selected clip.

Why is the audio messed up when I import a trimmed video from my iPhone to iMovie?

Hi,
well i've been having this problem and it would be great if somebody could help me with it. So I imported a clip from my iPhone 4S to my iMac in iMovie and the audio is all messed up. It's way to fast and at the end of the clip there's no sound at all. I realised that it only happens to clips that I've trimmed on my iPhone. The clips work perfectly fine on my phone but like I said when I import them to iMovie the audio doesn't work properly. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with this. Thanks

Thank you for your reply. However, I was hoping to avoid manually configuring the account on Mail. I would like to know if there is a way to make my iPhone do the configuration. For example, on Mail if I go to File>Import Mailboxes... I would be able to do it, except iPhone's bluetooth does not support data sharing, therefore this method won't work. Is there another way that I can actually import the email account information from my iPhone to my Mac?
