Import favourites missing

Hi guys,
I recently upgraded my MacBook Pro's software to OS X Mavericks and Final Cut Pro X was upgraded to 10.1.1.
So I've started a new project and gone to import some media but the favourites tab is empty, where as it used to have different shortcuts to things like my Desktop. I tried to drag the Desktop folder from the Mac Disk to the favourites tab but that didn't work. So does anyone know how I can restore my favourites?
Thanks,
Mike

Like Tom said, that is NOT your Desktop folder (or shouldn't be).
The easiest way to reach your Desktop folder in the Import window is to hit Cmd-Shift-H: this will place you in your home folder. The Desktop you see there is the one you want. Drag it to the Favorites and you're set.

It depends on eaxactly what is wrong with the old laptop. If you're lucky the drive can be extracted and connected to a new computer to extract the data. Otherwise see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Itunes import only missing tracks

When I imported my CD library into iTunes, I had limited disk space, so I only imported tracks that I like. Now that I have a larger hard drive, I'd like to import the rest of those tracks. Is there any easy way to import only missing tracks, leaving the previously-imported tracks (and their ratings and play counts) alone? If I have to manually check each album to see which tracks are already existing, it'll be a huge undertaking.

Just reimport the entire CD. It'll ask if you want to replace the tracks already imported.
    Click Yes.
This won't change anything (playcounts, ratings) or anything else.

  • In IE I used different levels of folders for my favourites. After importing I miss the bookmarks of folders within folders within folders etc.

In Internet Explorer it is possible to organize favourites with folders as in firefox. In these folders you can make new folders and within those new folders. Can this tree structure be used in Firefox? After importing most of my favourites are gone, I can find no folders within folders within folders etc. So most of my favourites are not imported from IE.

Thanks for the helpful thoughts LarryHN. I'm having a Mac guy look at my MacBook Pro in the next day or so to see what he can find out. I described the issue on the phone... and like you, he said that saving my documents to a thumb drive shouldn't affect my iPhoto library.
One reason I bought the thumb drive was to back up my iPhoto library, but the time I got to that, it was already gone. I've thought of getting Time Machine (and have checked out other systems), but the reviews are so mixed, I'm dragging my feet on coughing up the cash right now.
When I launch iPhoto, I only see the last few weeks' worth of photos. Oddly, photos I imported 3 weeks ago appear, but are in a folder dated November 2012--when I know I took those and imported them in January 2013. So that's weird...
When I got to iPhoto Library, I have an Auto Import folder with nothing in it. "My Pictures" folder has nothing as well. I did hold down the option key while opening up iPhoto, but only my recent library (a few weeks' worth of photos) appears. I'm using iPhoto 2011 (6.2.3). I can only hope my Mac guy can help...

  • How to import only "missing" E-Mails from backup?

    Hello everyone!
I have a problem with mail. I set up a new MacMini (w/ Mavericks, i7, 2014) from a backup of an older MacMini (also Mavericks, i5, 2012). I used the migration client and it all looked just fine, when I first started working on the new system. First thing, which was odd: I had my project folder with LOTS of content lying on the desktop (some 14 GB, a few thousand files in multiple subfolders). I noticed, of those 14 GB 12 GB went missing. No problem - I just copied the files from my old system (which I still have and which still works).
However, after I've been working with the new system for a couple of weeks, I noticed the same thing that happened to my project folder apparently happened to my (local) E-Mail folders. Again, the folder structure is still there, but tons of (mostly older) e-mails are missing. Since I've been working with the new system for quite some time now, the above-mentioned "delete and replace" approach is out of question, because all new e-mails, which I filed in the local folders would be lost.
As I still have my old system as a backup, it is no problem for me to retrieve all old e-mails manually. But is there a way how I can import only those mails, I have lost during migration? Or in other words: How can I sync the new and the old mail folders while avoiding duplicates and keeping the folder structure as is?
Every comment is highly appreciated! Thanks in advance..!

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
              Envelope Index
              ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. ClickOK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Importing favourites folder as a whole from backup to Firefox

I have recently reloaded windows and wish to import my favourites folder that is in a backup folder on my C drive to Firefox but I seem unable to do this. Even as single files using the import/export facility under 'bookmarks'. Please could you help? Thank you.

Firefox has a built-in PDF file reader.
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/view-pdf-files-firefox-without-downloading-them
The issue with Adobe Reader isn't popularity or "poor user reviews", it is because there are multiple security problems with Adobe products which never seem to get fixed. Most web browsers have their own PDF flle readers these days, which allow the user to view those files from within the browser without needing a plugin.

  • LR 4.4 Import Issues - Missed a Cure?

    Hello Everyone,
Since upgrading to 4.4, I have experienced a number of new issues. 4.3 was solid as a rock in comparison.  4.4 is causing me to need to manually terminate and/or restart the application numerous times daily, sometimes numerous times hourly.  It clearly needed more bake time.
I am posting this thread because, after reading numerous similar posts (I find I'm hardly alone) and hundreds of responses, it is not clear to me there are any solid solutions.  If there are, and I missed them, I am hoping someone will simply point me toward the appropriate URL.
    My primary issue surrounds Import.
The Import function has been repeatedly (not just once or twice, but interiminably):
Hanging, becoming unresponsive after telling it to execute the Import.  This is frequently noticed immediately, at file #1.
Incredibly slow, eventually grinding to a halt after a handful of files.
Sources are dropped. Initially all sources are listed. Then, especially with sources (e.g. card reader, smartphone) having > 100 files, the source simply is removed from the listing.  You can toggle the arrow on other sources (e.g. to expand file folders), but nothing happens other than the arrow toggling up/down.
Only solution, restart (frequently requiring manual process termination) and try again.  I have seen discussions regarding smartphones. It was never an issue with 4.3.  With 4.4, my iPhone 4S will populate the preview grid, but after about 2 minutes, it disappears and the grid goes blank.
Importing large number of files (regardless of source) will populate the grid but frequently have the exclamation mark with a number of the preview images.  Only solution I've found, delete effected files from catalog, then reimport.
Modifying import settings, such as my copyright or related info, will terminate LR altogether, about 30% of the time.  This happened to a number of us at a LR training class this past weekend (different machines, OSes).
Importing 764 JPG from my iPhone (while writing this) has been going about :30 and is 1/3 (indicated) complete.  We're at the point of about 1 image imported ever ~5 seconds, reinforced by the entire grid object being refreshed each time.  I would consider importing a handful of files at a time, but if I do much more than select the iPhone as source and hit Import as soon as the grid populates, the source is lost, and everything starts over.
One instance of an 'insufficient memory' error.
There are other niggling issues but Import is a major mess.  From what I've read (and, again, I see I'm not alone), these issues are common for both Windows and Mac, newer PCs and older, and in all manner of mixed environments.
My own situation is a Windows 7 Ultimate, Dell E6400, 4GB RAM, LR 4.4.  In all cases I am reading my cards via the built-in card readers.  Primary cameras are a Canon SX260 (JPG only) and Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D shooting (almost always) RAW (.MRW).  My content is solely pictures, no video.
With regard to the smartphone discussion, I have experienced these problems with the laptop docked, undocked, with or without smartphone attached.
The only relief I have found is, when working with a memory card having >100 images (not many, in the grand scheme), to copy files to a local hard drive, then import from there.  The impression I have, is that the speed allows quicker execution, getting ahead of any resource contention issues.  Purely a gut feel thing based on observed behavior. Nonetheless importing from HD rather than SD does work better.
Clearly 4.4's Import has issues. Any word of a service patch or 4.5?

Uninstall 4.4 and re-install 4.3 is the normal process for downgrading.
Others don't necessarily have the problems you're seeing, so to me it's less likely a fundamental flaw of LR 4.4 that wasn't tested well enough, and more likely a hardware or driver issues that LR 4.4 is bringing to light.
It may be that LR 4.4 is using different USB libraries or different OS-level functions to interact with the removable devices, perhaps to resolve other issues reported in previous versions, so something working differently wouldn't be unexpected.  It is less expected that whatever LR 4.4 is doing would cause problems on a particular computer, though.  It might be wise to figure out what is wrong on your system when LR 4.4 is in use, but obviously you also need to have a functioning workflow as well.
For experimentation, I think it is possible to have both LR 4.3 and LR 4.4 installed at the same time, if your rename the LR 4.4 program folder to something completely different before doing the install for LR 4.3, and then rename it back when you're done.
You also might want to try the beta for Lightroom 5 at Adobe Labs http://labs.adobe.com/ to see if it works any better and report any issues to the LR5-beta specific discussion forum (not here).

  • IPhoto events view broken after import, images missing

I'm running the latest iPhoto on a 10.8.2 Retina MacBook Pro and experience some strange import problems since the end of last month.
My library holds more then 26.000 images right now and whenever I try to import some new images by dragging them from Finder to the iPhoto library the images (and videos) get imported... but when I try to view the event afterwards it doesn't open and the scrolling of the complete events view is broken. The scrollbar moves but thumbnails of events don't! I'm not able to use the events view anymore after a try to open such broken event.
When I use the regular photos view (the 2nd item in the left menu) I can see and use these new images... until I quit and restart iPhoto. Afterwards many images are missing – see http://cl.ly/JrjF for an example. I can delete those broken events... but not empty the trash afterwards. It just hangs while purging all entries.
    Has anyone experienced this already?
I'm importing iPhone images uploaded to the DropBox "Camera Uploads" folder. But I can't believe it has to do with anything related to this.
I've also disabled the Photostream feature (not the shared ones) in iPhoto because I got tired of splitted events due to Photostream missing some images now and then. Maybe it has to do with that disabled feature. I'll try to reenable it after restoring my 5 days old backup (120GB) a second time now.
Thanks for your help... let's hope I can solve this.

This sounds like a damaged database.
    Try this test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
If it's not then back to your main Library:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

    Hi,
So in follow up to my exporting question earlier, I am importing a playlist into Itunes. When I import my playlist - there is missing information. For example it'll be missing the information in the comments field or information in the genre field.
Would anyone happen to know why this would be happening? I looked at the imported .txt file in excel and I can see that all the information is there. Why would itunes be ignoring just a select few feilds?

  • Why is the import button missing on Home Sharing?

I just got a MacBook Pro and when I open Home Sharing the import button is missing on my Mac but I am able to see it on my PC. I checked and I authorized both computers and have the same accounts on both also. I have turned Home Sharing "on" and "off" on both computers and there still isn't a solution. On my PC, by the Home Sharing tab is a house with a music note but on my Mac it doesn't look like that. I also checked and when I go to Preferences>Sharing, it says my Home Sharing is on but I don't have any devices connected to it. I don't want to re-download over 1,000 songs. • Bulk import error - Missing required attribute ‘fullname’

    Folks,
I am having trouble trying to bulk import some users.
I have the following file for import (cut down from what I really want to import):
    command,user,waveset.resources,password.password,password.confirmpassword,global.firstname,global.lastname,global.fullname
Create,”user1”,”myLDAPresourcename”,”passwd”,”passwd”,”myfirstname1”,”mysurname1”,” myfirstname1 mysurname1”This works using “Accounts->Launch Bulk Actions” with Action set to “From Action List” and everything else on that page left at the default value. The correct data appears in IDM and the LDAP resource.
Now if I try to import the following file, in which the user does not have a first name, I get in to trouble:
    command,user,waveset.resources,password.password,password.confirmpassword,global.firstname,global.lastname,global.fullname
    Create,”user2”,”myldapresourcename”,”passwd”,”passwd”,””,”mysurname2”,”mysurname2”
    The error message is:
com.waveset.Util.WaveSetException: An error occurred adding user ‘uid=user2,…..’ to resource “myLDAPresourcename”.
com.waveset.util.WavesetException:  Missing required attribute ‘fullname’Clearly the import file contains a column for ‘fullname’ (column 8) and a value for ‘fullname’ in the only row of data “mysurname2”. As far as I am concerned it is perfectly valid for a user not to have a ‘firstname’; but they must have a ‘fullname’.
I have tried using an import file without a value for ‘fullname’, but with a ‘firstname’ and ‘lastname’ like this
    command,user,waveset.resources,password.password,password.confirmpassword,global.firstname,global.lastname,global.fullname
Create,”user3”,”myLDAPresourcename”,”passwd”,”passwd”,”myfirstname3”,”mysurname3”,””This works. The correct data appears in IDM and the LDAP resource and IDM has generated a ‘fullname’ value of “{Firstname} {Surname}”. Trying to leave out the ‘firstname’ and the ‘fullname’ gives the same error as above.
The configuration of my resource (in summary) is
    objectclasses:
         top
         person
         inetOrgPerson
    Account Attributes:
         accounted     -> uid               [required]
         password     -> userPassword
         firstname     -> givenname
         lastname     -> sn               [required]
         objectClass     -> objectClass
         fullname     -> cn               [required]
As an experiment I have tried reconfiguring the resource so that ‘fullname’ is not marked as required.
Importing user1 and user3 still works and still creates the correct data in IDM and the LDAP resource.
Importing user2 now gives a different error:
com.waveset.Util.WaveSetException: An error occurred adding user ‘uid=user2,…..’ to resource “myLDAPresourcename”.
javax.naming.directory.SchemaViolationException: [LDAP: error code 65 – Object Class Violation]I don’t understand why, during the import of a user without a ‘firstname’ IDM will not generate a ‘fullname’ or use the supplied ‘fullname’.
    Can anyone help?
    Regards,
    Gavin

After further testing it turned out that I couldn't create a user without a firstname from the IDM GUI and this in turn was because of the way fullname was generated by the user form.
I've got the user form changed and now user creation (from the GUI and via bulk import) is working as hoped.
