Import footage without the video breaking up into segments?

Is there a way to import video footage from my canon HD vixia 30, without it breaking up into segments
everytime the camera was turned off?
thanks in advance for any help

No. HDV will always make a break at the start/stop points on the tape using FCE.
It's a consequence of the Mpeg file layout.

I am making a movie from still pictures. I used no theme and then started adding pictues. When I played it back, all was well. Then I added a few more pictures and some sound. When I play iot back it plays just so far and then the sound continues, but the screen turns green or the pictures break up into colors.

Sorry, everyone.  I think I may have figured out what it was all down to...........
I had left the IDE ribbon cable plugged into my third HDD, with the power cable unplugged.  I did this so as not to endanger my years of work on the third drive, until Windows had setup.  I have in the past, accidentally chosen the wrong partiton to format, so this seemed a good way to avoid it from then on.
This was not a problem on my old system, but it seems this system doesn't like it.
I must have left the drive completely unplugged, the times Windows did setup.  Amazing really.  I couldn't see the woods for the trees.
Anyway, I'm sorry to have bothered everyone with my problem.
    Cheers

edit :   Sorry Syar2003, I didn't see your reply until I had posted mine.  Many thanks for taking the time to try and help me, it seems as though I may have sorted it now.  I am using IDE drives until I can afford SATA.  But many thanks for the heads-up on the NF4-SATA compliance, I'll be sure to bare that in mind.
I didn't actually check the NVRAID/IDE ROM version before updating the bios, so I have no idea if the revision was changed when Liveupdate flashed the Bios, I'm afraid.  I didn't know they would be updated at the same time.
    Again, cheers

  • How to play an album without the videos

I want to play an album I have bought from the iTunes store. However it comes with videos for some of the songs which are sorted by track name which means when I want to play the album it plays the same track twice...once for the video and then for the audio.
Can I just play the audio album without the video content?

Deleting Albums will not delete the images. They remain in All Photos and Collections.

The Mac has never needed "Full Screen". It has done multiple screen Extended Desktop since 1987.
Full screen is an iPhone feature, carried into this verion with the mult-touch gestures and other so-called "unifying" features.

Yes I held them down till the apple logo appears, then spinning wheel and repeated boot up process. I only knew it was going round in circles because the charging sound kept repeating every so many seconds.
I am downloading iOS.5.0.1 now to do a complete factory restore. I hope this works. I have been looking online for hours for fixes and I have very little batter on it as its been spinning for hours now.
Why do things like this happen? I am sat there watching tv and one minute the settings folder is there then its not! How does that happen? It just disappear? I hadn't moved it to another folder or deleted it, it just.... went!

AE does no longer support PS video. This feature has been removed due to technical issues. You have to render the video from PS to a clip or image sequence and import that into AE.

  • Import file problem, the video is stretched

I have a 720*576 .mov file, but when I import this file in iMoive, the video is stretched, it have two black bars on both sides... How can I fix it?
    Thanks very much!!

Where did this video come from? Captured from a camera? Open the file into the QT player and report exactly what it says in the movie inspector. You might need to run it through MPEG Streamclip or the QT pro player to fix the anamorphic flag.

  • How do I import clips without the "Handles"?

I'm trying to build a project from several different iMovie 5.0.2 projects. The problem is, after trimming the clips I need in one project, in attempting to import the individual clip to my new project, iMovie tries to import the ENTIRE project and not just the clip.
The root of the problem may be that each of the projects I'm drawing from was originally an hour-long continuous take of a live performance. The clips I'm trying to import were cut from this and placed in the Clips window.
Is there a way, short of trashing and flushing all footage beyond the specific clips I want, to import a clip from another project without getting the "handles" (the rest of the movie) attached?
Many thanks (and the usual nomination for sainthood) to any and all who can help!
    Cheers!

    Chris,
One way to do it is to first select a clip and choose File>Share>QuickTime Full Quality. Also, be sure to check the "Share selected clips only" check box.
Then import the resulting files to the new project.

  • Download Helper - How to download & save .wmv files WITHOUT the video being downloaded playing on screen?

    Windows 7 Pro
    Latest Version of Firefox
    Latest Version of Download Helper
Windows Media Player and VLC are installed
When I download a video file (typically .wmv) the video begins playing on the monitor screen prior to my being able to use Download Helper to download the video and save to the hard drive. This typically results in the video stopping and playing and stopping throughout the download process because of the download speed available. There is never any issue with the final download on the hard drive.
Today I installed latest version of Firefox and Download Helper on another computer.
    Windows 7
    Latest Version of Firefox
    Latest Version of Download Helper
Windows Media Player (only) is installed
Downloaded the same .wmv file downloaded above and the video did NOT begin playing on the monitor screen. Download Helper allowed me to download the file to the hard drive WITHOUT constantly listening to the video start/stop/start/stop etc.
What option (in which program) would allow the playing of the video to be toggled on or off while downloading the .wmv file?
    Thank you.

Once the download has started, you can go to another web page. The
download should be a separate function.

  • Import mail without the correct IDs (OD messed up)

I messed up the Open Directory info, recreate 5 users from scratch, but how I can import the old mail into the new server?
Both systems were 10.6.3, and I still have access to the old (screwed up machine). Screwed up because the authentication system behaves weird (logs are saying that the requests were granted, but in effect no one can access reliably).

This is a fairly complicated problem that I ran into when I wanted to create a brand new server installation with a new Open Directory Master but wanted to copy the email across.
The first thing I did is stop the mail service on the old server that was still accepting mail so that no mail would be lost, anyone attempting to send mail would just be held in the senders queue.
The first thing to note is that each user has their mail stored in a folder with a long Hex number for example 'D123456A-D123-4CFF-8553-BEEAF4E887A2' it is a lot easier to determine who's folder is who's if you still have the old server running so you can simply look in Server Admin > Mail > Maintenance > Accounts to see a list who each mail store belongs to. Alternatively if you use the terminal and change into the directory holding all the mail stores and issue the command 'ls -l' to list the stores, each one is owned by the shortname of the owner.
When you know who each folder belongs to you can copy the contents across to the new server. This gets tricky as permissions are a problem and any user created mailboxes (folders in their mail client) are stored as hidden files (starting with a period e.g .family) these will not copy with a standard finder copy. What I did is mount a network share on the new server and created a new folder with the name of the owner on the new server and then simply went into each folder as root and copied the contents by using the command 'cp -R * /Volumes/New Server/User\ Name/' and then 'cp -R .* /Volumes/New Server/User\ Name/' to copy the hidden files.
Now you have all the mail copied onto the new server and the question that remains is what you do with it from there. Now in my case mail had not been directed to the new server so I didn't have to worry about mail that was already on the new server. I then simply copied the contents of the mail folders to the new mail store folder, this overwrites any mail that is already in the store so you wouldn't want to do this on a system where there is already building up in the mail store. Once the mail is in the new folder you need to change the permissions 'chown -R newuser:mail B123456A-B123-4CFF-8553-BEEAF4E887A2' where new user in the short name of the user.
Now if you have already started receiving mail on the new server I guess the best solution would be to create a second account for each user and copy the mail to the second account so as to not overwrite the new mail. They would then have two mail accounts one that is an archive of their old mail and one that is the current. Not ideal but it at least means they still have access to their old mail.
I have only given an outline of the process assuming you have a fair understanding of the file structure and using the command line, sorry if it is confusing, it is always difficult to judge the level of understanding someone has. Feel free to ask if there is something you don't follow.

  • How do I rotate my video without the video going "blank?"

    I have Mac OSX 10.7.4
    Quicktime is version 10.1
I am using a .mov file I filmed using my iphone. I filmed it sideways to be widescreen, but when I open it on my mac in quicktime, it appears longways instead of sideways. I go to edit- rotate left, and it rotates, but no video plays. The video is black, but the audio still works.
Any advice on how to rotate it and keep my video?
    Thanks!

    Matthew,
Actually, it did keep the Aspect Ratio, as it is defined, but instead of a horizontal Aspect Ratio of say 4:3, you now have a vertical Aspect Ratio of 4:3. If it kept the horizontal, your image would be squashed in one dimension and then stretched in the other - not what you would likely want.
What you need to do is now treat your vertical image. In most cases, I find it preferable to use the fixed Effect>Motion>Scale, and then effectively crop off parts of the top, or the bottom, or both. This has the disadvantage of having to Scale the image up, and it will begin to degrade in quality, so keep a close eye out for that.
Depending on a few factors, one can use certain artistic treatments to use the vertical image in your horizontal Frame: one could use it as a PiP (Picture in Picture), one could create a background, and just use Motion>Scale to drop the vertical dimension to match the vertical dimension of the Frame, letting the background show on probably both sides. Some videographers will shoot two shots with the camera 90 degrees out of orientation, i.e. on its side, when they want a "split-screen," i.e. PiP with two, side-by-side images, and just Rotate both Clips, and align them in the horizontal frame.
Now, what was your purpose for shooting with the camera on its side? What effect were you trying to obtain?
If this was a mounting issue, such as the camera had to be mounted on its side to get it where it was needed, then the trick is to frame less tightly, knowing that you will be effectively cropping off some of the image, when you Rotate.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How do I get the videos in iPhoto into a thumbnail in iMovie

How can I get the videos that are in an iPhoto album to a thumbnail in iMovie when thumbnail does not appear? I have a early 2009 24" iMac and using iphoto 11.

Are you saying the the movie in iPhoto doesn't show a thumbnail or that it doesn't have a thumbnail in iMovie?  If the latter then ask in the iMovie forum.
If the former then we need more information:
what exact version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see in the iPhoto window when viewing an  Event containing the movie in question?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
