Import Photos from another Mac

I would like to get photos from iPhoto, which have been edited (i.e. given a title) from my MacBook and have them on my iMac as well. How do I do that?

The elegant way to do this is to get both Macs on the same network--this can be done using a network switch or router. Then, on the Mac receiving the photos, open iPhoto, go to the preferences, click the Sharing button and check the "Look for shared photos" box.
On the Mac with the photos, open iPhoto, go to the preferences, click the Sharing button and check the "Share my photos" box.
On the Mac receiving photos, look in iPhoto and you'll see the shared iPhoto library. Click on the icon, select all the photos or albums you wish to copy, and just drag them into iPhoto. The photos will copy and even look for duplicates.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Yes there is. Connect the two machines together usinf a Firewire or ethernet cable, and copy the iPhoto Library Folder from the Pictures Folder on the old machine to same location on the new one. Then, Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:

  • How to import photos from "another user"?

I am working on a movie project (iMovie HD 6) under my username, but all the family photos are under my wife's username and, thus, in her "documents."
I found I could not directly import photos from her folder, so I had her share the photos we want to use in a folder on the "shared" documents. I then import these into my iPhoto library, and then am able to import into iMovie.
However, there are several photos for which I cannot view - when I try to open them directly from the FInder window, I get the error "You don't have permisson to read this file." Accordingly, I cannot import these into my iPhoto library and, ultimately, into iMovie.
As far as I know, all the photos were imported in the same manner, so I can't figure out why some are "viewable" and some are not.
Any ideas on my problem, or suggestions on a more direct way to import these photos?
Thanks so much for the help.
    Bruce

Hi Bruce - how about copying her photos onto a CD or DVD, and then copying back from that into your iPhoto?

  • IPhoto 7.0 -importing photos from one Mac to another

My wife and I recently went on vacation and took many photos that we down-
loaded to her MacBook. Now that we are home, I want to download a portion of these photos to my iMac. Is it possible to import these vacation photos from her MacBook directly to my iMac, or do I need to 'Burn' several disks on the MacBook first then download these to the iMac? Harv66

are those pics in iPhoto on her machine? If so, network the two machines together and use iPhoto Library Manager to move them from one library to another.

  • How do I import photos from another iPhoto library?

Hi. I'm trying to consolidate photos from three macbooks into one central iphoto library on a new mac mini. I started by copying the iphoto library of the largest onto the new mac mini and replaced the existing (empty) library on the new mini. All is good - that's one macbook down.
How do I import the photos from the other two though? I attempted to bring them over using File -> Import to Library, but when I navigate to the iphoto libraries of the other macbooks, the iPhoto library itself is greyed out so I can't select it.
I want to import the photos, events, albums, etc.
    Any way to do this?
    Thanks for any assistance.

Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
I want to import the photos, events, albums, etc.
So you want to merge the libraries? The only way to do that is with the paid ($20) version of  iPhoto Library Manager

  • Import messages from another mac

I have a laptop pismo G3 running OS10.3. I want to import the mail messages I have on another mac which is running IS 10.4.11. Is this possbile? I tried to connect with the laptop and it would not let me choose the mailbox so then I copied the mailbox folder from my user account on the 10.4 mac to the laptop and then imported but all I got was empty mailboxes, no messages. Am I doing something wrong or is this impossible to do because of the different versions of software and operating systems? Thanks for the help.
    Dave

I would try using Migration Assistant on the 10.4 to get the 10.3 Mailboxes.

  • How to import photos from another program on computer eg. Adobe Photoshop

Can photos be imported to IPhotos from another program on the same computer eg. Adobe Photoshop?

Photos aren't "in" Photoshop. They're in the Finder and has just been set to use Photoshop to open them.
You can import files into iPhoto by
The File -> Add to Libary command
Drag and Drop to either the iPhoto window or the iPhoto icon.

  • Can't import photos from another machine???

I have downloaded a few albums on another machine and then brought a copy home to put on my iPhoto library but every time I try to import I get an error message saying:
'+The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data).+'
All the images are in Jpeg format!

they are in my iPhoto Library
How did they get there? iPhoto will not import pics from the active iPhoto Library Folder - a protection against duplication. There is never a need for the user to enter that folder and anytime you do you risk damaging your Library.

  • Imported photos from old mac now cant export onto new Macq

Ok so here is the deal.
I was in Iraq and I put all my photos from my Macbook I had to my iPhone. Now the hard drive in that thing crapped out so I bought a iMac the other day. Nice computer for $1700. But with all this money I have spent on this worthless company I can not get my photos off my phone.
As you can see I am ticked off. My phone is broke (lock button don't work) and now I can't get my photos off my phone to get my phone fixed. And the so called Genius' in the apple store just say plug it into iTunes and click import.
So does anyone have a way to get these photos off this phone or have I just found a way to loose 5 years worth of photos?
    <Edited by Host>

    You didn't backup your photos?
The photo sync is one way -computer to iphone.
You can e-mail them to yourself.
The pics will not be of the original quality - iphone pics are reduced in size and quality for viewing on iphone.
You could try a third party program - at your risk.

  • Viewing iPhoto photos from another Mac..

I must be blind or stupid, but not so long ago, I was able to share my library, and from my wife's macbook, upon opening her iPhoto, she was able to see my library, see all the photos and even copy some to her local iPhoto..Or this has disappeared or I'm unable to see how to set it up, or why is it we don't see it anymore.
Browsed all the internet, but couldn't find anything clearly related, I'm using Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.
If anybody can help, I'd appreciate.
    Thank you,
    all the best

That feature was discontinued with iPhoto 9.5.  Now you'll have to use Shared Photo Streams to share/transfer photos between Macs.
Or if you just need to transfer a photo between your Macs you can use the Air Drop feature. Export out of iPhoto and activate Air Drop.
Any Mac with that capability will show up in the window above your icon and just drag the photos to it.
This Apple document describes it in much better detail:  Mac Basics: AirDrop helps you share items with others nearby

  • Import photos from macbook to mac destp

I need to import photos from my Mac Book to my Mac desktop

if you want to move your iphtoo library then Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
If that guess is not what you want then please provide details so one can do other than guess

  • How to import photos from multiple iphoto libraries to iPad

How do I import photos from multiple iPhoto libraries from my iMac to the new iPad? I have 4 different iPhoto Libraries on my iMac.
I can import photos from  iPhoto library 1,  to the iPad, but when I import photos from iPhoto Library 2, created on my iMac to the iPad,
it deletes the original photos that I imported from the first iPhoto Library and replaces them with the import from library 2.
I only want to import selected photos from each library to my iPad. Can someone plese help me?

As Ralph has suggested, if you want to sync photos from your computer, you must include all photos that you want to sync - with each and every sync. You cannot import photos from another Main photo folder on the computer. You must create an all-in-one photo library in iPhoto and sync from that folder. You can select one level of sub folders from within that main folder, but all of those folders must be included in the main folder - in your case it is in iPhoto. That is just how the sync process works with Photos.
I don't know how using third party apps affects the photos that you have already synced from iPhoto, but take a look at these apps in this Google search. Maybe Wifi transfer is the way to go for you.
