Import Photos - Show Preview - images don't show

In "Import Photos", I select "Show Preview",
Actual images are not visible.
Image numbers show on each place holder.
Using Windows XP, Photoshop Elements 5.0, Nikon D80.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching Photos. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • Why don't imported photos show in Lightroom?

I imported a folder of approximately 170 pictures into lightroom using the same process I have been using for a month.  the files are a combination of canon .cr2 files and the matching .jpg files that go with the .cr2s.
After the import completed lightroom showed zero photos in that folder.  I immediately panicked and double checked that all the files really did exist in the folder via windows explorer.
However, if I go back and try re-importing the files the import function shows all the files as having been previously imported.
I have tried the "synchronize folder" process, and it first shows the files as '170' to import, but after the synch function complete it shows 0 files processed.
Any ideas why lightroom refuses to show this particular group of folders?
I suspect it is something either really simple or the library on my system is messed up due to corruption.
If the library is messed up how do I go about rebuilding it.  These photos are critical to me as they are headshots of an actress.

    THANK YOU, THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU!
I was panicking because I spent an hour with my friend/client going through these 170 shots cropping, minor tweaking, and picking out the best for further work.   I managed to reload the pictures, but thought I had lost all the post prep we had done.
You nailed the issue dead on and I've found the files with all the post prep catalog info.
If you were here I would kiss you!
And by the way, did I say THANK YOU!!!!
    Thanks, Bobw

  • Importing photos - custom icon images

Whenever I import photos from a digital camera into iPhoto, the icons in finder are thumbnails of the actual photo. Is there any way to prevent this from happening, and have all the files have the default icon?

Yes. While in the a folder in the icon mode select the View->Show View Options menu option. Then uncheck the box "Show icon preview" and click the All Windows radio button. That will turn off viewing the icons in the Finder.
If you want it only for one or two folders then do it for those folders and do not select the All Windows option.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Import photos to FCP Images stretch out

While I import photos to FCP, it stretch the images, I have been change the images size to 720x480, and adjust setting to 16:9 or 4:3, the problem still there, look like wide screen images fitting into the full screen.
    any help will be appreciate.
    Tks
    Pai

Don't make your photos 720x480, because FCP will stretch them.
Make your photos another size, hopefully a larger size, and then FCP will see them as square pixels and so will then not make them fill the screen.

  • SNewly imported photos show up as !, not in Originals Folder

I just imported about 100 pictures from a recent trip, and they are all showing up as ! in my iphoto library. I can see them in the thumbnails, but as the mouse rolls over them, or if I click on them, they go blank. I tried looking for them in the Originals Folder, but they aren't there (I looked by file name after seeing their info, and they do in fact have file names.)
I tried to rebuild my photo library, I tried extracting the photos - I think I've tried just about everything that has been suggested in various forums. The one difference I see between what others have found and what has happened to me is that while the pictures exist in my iphoto library, they don't seem to have corresponding 'originals,' which is rather odd. I don't know where they can possibly exist in my computer or how they are in iphoto if they don't exist in the Originals Folder. In fact, I looked in the Import folder within iphoto and the folder I named for the import is in there but it is empty.
Unfortunately, the photos were deleted off of my camera after export, otherwise I would just export again.
Any suggestions would be most helpful.

This isn't Apple Support. This is a forum for Users to help other Users, if they can.
Your problem is simple. iPhoto can't find the files you imported because they aren't there.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A +Managed library+, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
A +Referenced Library+ is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

  • Imported photos showing up blurry in iPhoto

I recently switched from a PC to an iMac and dragged my photos from the "My Documents" folder on my external drive to the iPhoto program on my Mac. I opened iPhoto to look at my pix and noticed that some of them are a lot blurrier now than the last time I viewed them on my PC. This seems to be mostly with my older photos. Is there a reason for this, and is there some kind of setting I can use to get them back to normal (the way they looked on my PC)?
    Thanks in advance,

importing a photo to iPhoto makes no changes - it just copies the photo so what you have in iPhoto is exactly what you had on your PC
a couple of possibilities to look at
1 - for large (high resolution) photos iPhoto displays a quick, sometimes fuzzy image and then completes loading the full image and the image clears - are you giving it time to fully display?
2 - is you iPhoto display larger than your PC display - if you have low resolution photos displaying them on a larger screen will let you see the pixels - making them "fuzzy"
3 - is there any chance you imported lower resolution sions of your photos? What is the resolution of one of the "fuzzy" photos - look in the info window on the lower left - if it is not there, click on the blue "i"

  • Newly imported photos show up in (reversed) added order . .

. . . . no matter how much I keep changing the option to "Capture date". It works fine while still being in the same session, but if I close LR and then return to it and import new photos from memory card, the same will happen. Are there other ways to permanently set the "Sort" menu? (LR 2.6)

Yes.. I think so, so that other users can browse my albums. But should that mean they get to see the unintended, unedited shots off the SD card - most of which I deleted from my iPhoto?

  • Issues with importing photos in an image sequence!

    Hi all,
Just at work and we're doing a rather large Time Lapse photography project which I and another colleague are editing within Adobe Premiere. After gathering a large selection of images we decided it was time to have a go at doing a first edit. Opened Premiere and made a new project etc. and have made a couple of practice runs with different pictures but I opened the pictures (File/Import) and then tried to import all of the pictures but I can't tick "Image Sequence", which is greyed out. Does anyone know why? I assumed it was due to the fact that it was importing them off an external drive but I put them on the MacBook just to make sure but it still wouldn't import them. I then tried to import less pictures at a time still to no avail.
Being flat out of ideas just thought I would ask what I would consider experts with more knowledge than myself for a hand! Thanks in advance to anyone who can help, with this being a work project I am eager to get started as soon as possible!

might be the filename convention stuff... like if you have filenames that have a lot of weird characters and no easily discernable " number" sequence it might not be recognizing them as a potential sequence. I'm on  a pc and use a program called " renamer "... which I got for free I think.. off internet.. and it works great for renaming stuff in a folder...
what I do is put a group of files in a specific folder ( like maybe a temp directory I make just for the purpose of renaming files ).. and use renamer on that stuff...
It's a little tricky so experiment with one file so you know it is working the way you expect... ( adding rules and using wildcards and so on ).  If you post a sample of one of your filenames in the sequence someone may be able to tell you definitively what is up ...
    good luck
edit.. an afterthought.. post 2 filenames that you think are sequential... and that way we can see how it is progressing re: numbers, dates, whatever.... and also someone could test it ( like I could create 2 files in ps using those names and see if it works to import as sequence.. and also see what renamer rules would work to fix it if it needs fixing ) ???

  • Ok so my MacBook Pro has begun saying the startup disc is full after importing photos, so I deleted done and the message went away. now my computer won't go passed the login page it gets stuck after I login and goes to a grey screen. Can anyone help?

    Startup disc full

    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
    b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.

  • Aperture Preview Images Before Import

    Hi,
I have a doubt as to wheter I missinterpreted or a function is in fact not enabled in Aperture altought it is mentioned in the description of Aperture features.
In this webpage https://www.apple.com/aperture/features/#import on the "Preview Images Before Import" area one can read "Double-click any image in the Import window to view it at a larger size. You can also play video and audio clips before importing them.". Thou when I try to preview (or Quick Look) an image or video in the Import window from my iPod touch by double-clicking nothing happens ?!? Did I missinterpret? Is this behaviour not valid for iOS (iPod's or iPhone's) devices for some reason?
Please help me understand as previewing a video is extremelly valuable for me to know what to name the file before importing.
    Thank you.
    André

I must say this seems to me like a slightly false (or at the least missleading) advertisement.
I understand that iOS can pose a different protocol, but then one should not use a sentence like "Double-click any image in the Import window ".
You may want to send this feedback to the developer team using the feedback form:
    Apple - Aperture - Feedback
The documentation could frofit from some corrections-

  • Aperture 3: low quality preview images

I don’t know if it's just a problem with my (new) Aperture Trial library or if it's a Aperture 3 bug:
The preview images Aperture 3 (trial) creates from raw files (in my case NEFs) are different from the JPEGs exported using the same JPEG settings.
I get the impression that the preview images don’t use all the adjustments applied to the raw files. They don’t have the moire reduction applied. The preview images of high ISO images have color noise, the exported images don’t have that color noise (the moire and noise settings of raw fine tuning are applied to the exported files but not to the image previews).
As the preview images are used for the Finder media browser, iLife, iPhone/iPod touch picture sync and other things the lower quality is not acceptable for me.
The preview images of Aperture 2 are identical to the exported JPEGs from Aperture 2 (using the same settings).
I use Aperture 3 Trial with a new trial library and a few hundred raw images just to test Aperture 3.
I already erased all preview images and rebuild the previews. I deselected using the embedded JPEGs from the raw files and I let Aperture rebuild the miniatures.

It seems that Ap2 syncs the previews to the iPhone... you have to clear the previous cached previews before it will load higher quality previews... anyhow, here is what I did... and photos look better on my iphone (not feeling motivated enough to verify if it is the same quality as iphoto sync)...
1.) change Ap2 prefs for "limit preview size" to "don't limit"...
2.) select all the photos in the album(s) you are want to sync, right click (ctrl click), and select delete previews...
    3.) sync your iphone again...
if that doesn't work directly, you might need to uncheck sync photos to delete all photos on the iphone, but the ultimate goal is to ensure refresh with the higher quality previews...
Hope that makes sense or gets folks in the right direction... Apple really needs to put a check box in future version of itunes to sync full quality or something...

I have been using Lightroom 5 for 2-3 months now and all worked well, up until today's effort to import a new set of photos. I am working on a Mac with Yosemite 10.10.1.

Spotlight lists items and shows preview images.  BUT what about showing the path/location address of an item in my computer.
Especially important if I've put the item in the wrong folder and what to locate it without multi-steps. iMac OS X 10.5 was more useful.
Old OSX Spotlight function automatically displayed path/location within the machine:  e.g. desktop/folder/sub-folder/item.
Can I make Spotlight show the path?

Press option-command and the path is displayed at the bottom of the little preview window.  Press command-return and the enclosing folder opens.
