Importation document word 2007 (zones de texte-images-tableaux)

Bonjour,
Je pensais, en créant ma plaquette commerciale sur Word 2007, pouvoir l'importer facilement dans Indesign CS4.
Je veux juste lui rajouter quelques effets (pages qui tournent par exemple)..
Grosse erreur !
Le résultat n'est pas au rendez-vous.
J'ai d'abord créé mon document (14 pages).
Puis :

  • Problem with index markers and importing MS Word 2007 files

This was ugly in that it wasn't caught until after a book had been typeset and the index was being finalized. I'm now having to go back and manually insert a zillion index markers. Not fun.
This was my first project since migrating from FM 7.1 to FM9.0.3.
Source documents are Microsoft Word 2007. Am working in Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit.
When the Word files were imported into FrameMaker, only SOME of the index markers were imported. The difference between those that were imported and those that weren't was seemingly random.
I did some testing and found the problem and a solution.
Looking at the source Word .docx file, and displaying hidden text shows two types of index markers:
    1. { XE "word to be indexed"}
    2. {xe "word to be indexed"}
Note the difference in case and the extra space after the opening brace in #1. Markers of type 1 were imported fine. Markers of type 2 were stripped by the import process.
    The solution:
Backsave the Word file to Word 2003 format (.doc) before importing into FrameMaker.
I backsaved to Word 2003 and imported using both the "Microsoft Word" and "Microsoft Word 2007" filters and both filters imported correctly. It's only when trying to import a Word 2007 .docx file directly that things run amok.
    Grr...

Thank you for posting your solution, Dan. It's cold comfort, but I've also ran into this issue in the past, almost certainly well before Word2003 though, probably as far back as Word2000 or earlier.
In your testing, did you try saving as RTF to see if the markers were homogenized, by any chance? In my simple testing just now, Word itself recognized the index field correctly no matter whether I changed the field to "xe" or "XE", but FM's import of the .docx file format wouldn't recognize "xe", only "XE". But importing an RTF file handled both upper- and lower-case entries.
Ah, yes, that's it -- saving the Word2007 file as RTF (with 2 fields, one caps, one lower-case) changed cap field to lower-case when the RTF is opened in Word again, so saving as RTF does homogenize the fields to lower-case. Is it possible that your file(s) were changed to or saved as RTF at any point in their life-cycle? I believe some older versions of Word were actually RTF under the hood, too -- if you do Save As in Word2007 you can scroll through the File Type entries and see "Word 97-2002 & 6.0/95 - RTF (*.doc)"  I believe some doc management systems change binaries to RTF too, or conversely some apps create RTF but they name the files as doc.
So Word itself recognizes either lower- or upper-case, and FM's RTF import handles both, but not the .docx import.

  • Word 2007 file PDF -- Text comes through garbled!

I'd love some help with this if possible; I can't seem to figure out why the text becomes garbled when it's converted into a PDF, but i do know that it doesn't always happen during the conversion stage. It may convert just fine, then later when i re-open the PDF it's garbled.
I've attached an example so you all know what i'm talking about
Please help, i can never reach a final draft if the text keeps becoming unreadable!
    -Alice

    Thanks for the suggestion Bill.
You lost me a little bit in the middle of your explanation, but I think i found what you were talking about.
I posted another picture of the screen i found with Control + D in the PDF.
Also, I have found that i can edit the text with the advanced tool for text editing, but when i remove the extra spaces that were added, it ends up making the right hand side of my paragraph no longer uniform... as everything was previously aligned: justified... so i don't think i can fix it with that editor, unless there is a way to set alignment in in Acrobat?
    Thanks again!

  • Importing Word 2007  documents: linked images getting duplicated!

If I import a Word 2007 document (.docx) to a page in
Dreamweaver CS4, either by File-> import or drag and drop,
images (in the /web_images folder) for which I have already
inserted hyperlinks in the Word document, are getting duplicated
and the link in the Dreamweaver page now points to the new,
duplicate, image, not the original. For example, an image, say
bike.jpg gets copied to bike_000.jpg and the web page link points
    to /web_images/bike000.jpg.
This is not only clumsy, it is asking for trouble if for any
reason an image needs to be updated or whatever somewhere down the
    road.
I have tried importing with both full and just basic
formatting, but the result is the same. I haven't found anything in
    Dreamweaver preferences about this.
    Any ideas?

    Hi again
    Thanks for the clarification.
Okay, so really what you are doing is identical to clicking File > Import > Word Document, because all you are doing by choosing PDF is pre-selecting PDF as the listed file types. Once you change it to point to Word documents it's no different.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How do I import Word 2007 Template (.dotx) into Pages '09?

How do I import a Word 2007 template? Is there a one step solution, or do I just need to open the template file and re-save it as a Pages template?

    fruhalda,
What is the problem with opening your Word template in Pages and then save it as a Pages template. It is as direct as can be in my view. Remember it is two different applications here.
None, really, just ignorance on my part. It's the first version of iWork that I buy--and my first iMac, too--and I was expecting "Word-like" behavior, which I shouldn't. The applications target a different market segment--after using Word for 15 years Pages is a welcome improvement in usability for everyday documents. We'll see how it holds its ground to larger documents.
I'm glad that, paraphrasing Einstein, I think, it is "as compatible to Word as possible," but no more than only the necessary to import documents.
I may be getting Office 2008 to work around these incompatibilities while I get used to iWork--and there are some features that are simply not there. At least in the trial version I could verify that they have preserved the Windows shortcuts, which has allowed me to move on faster.
    Kind regards,

  • Word 2007 to  Acrobat 8.1.1  Conversion

I have a User Who has been trying to Print to PDF various word documents ( Word 2007 which were originally Word 2003) that have Excel ( Originally 2003, but I ASSUME get converted to 2007) Embeds.
The Problem is that where-ever the Excel embed in Word 2007 is( After printing to PDF), the PDF is Black.
I checked the Excel embeds, and no Links to outside files have been made ( I thought that the Black was caused by the PDF file not finding any link).
Anyways, in both Standard and Pro Testing of this Issue, using the 8.1.1 versions of Acrobat, I then Click on Examine Document, and "Metadata", "Hidden text" and "Deleted hidden Page and Image context" are checked.
I then Click on Preview, and I was amazed to see that the Excel embeds had indeed converted over, but as hidden text.
If I change the Radio button in Preview to "Show Both Hidden and Visible Text", then it shows the full document in preview.
My hope is that I can somehow setup Adobe Acrobat, and/or Word so that the Hidden elements will display. Most of the users who need this to work don't have a whole lot of patience with too many "steps".
Any advice or help is appreciated.

I have the same problem. When I convert a Word 2007 which has Excel 2007 embeds to pdf, the Excel embeds show up as a black patch. I am using Vista 64 bit and Office 2007 with Acrobat 8.1.1 and the same thing happens on my laptop on which i have Vista 32 bit, Office 2007, and Acrobat 8.1.1. However, on the XPSP3 machines, with Office 2007 documents and Microsoft converter to pdf i do not have a problem. Any help is appreciated.

    The colors are incorrect
This normally occurs because one of the ink cartridges are low on one or more colors of ink, do the following to determine if the ink cartridge is out of ink.
Check the estimated ink levels in the Printer Toolbox. If the all-in-one software is not installed, skip to Step 2.
NOTE: The estimated ink levels are calibrated for the HP 56 and HP 57 ink cartridges. The estimated ink level will be incorrect for the HP 28 ink cartridge.
In the HP Director software, click Settings , click Print Settings , and then click Printer Toolbox .
In the Printer Toolbox, select the Estimated Ink Level tab as is shown in Figure 1. Remember that this is an estimated ink level based on counting the drops of ink used and that it may not reflect the actual amount of ink remaining. If one or more of the colors of ink are low or empty, replace the ink cartridge.
Figure 1: The Estimated Ink Level tab of the Printer Toolbox
Print a test page by one of the following methods:
From the Printer Toolbox: Select the Device Services tab of the Toolbox and then click Print a Test Page . The test page marked A in Figure 2 will print.
From the all-in-one front panel: Press and hold the Cancel button, and then press the Color Start Copy button. The test page marked B in Figure 2 will print.
Figure 2: Self test pages - A is from the Printer Toolbox, B is from the front panel
If the colors on the test page look correct and are not faded or light, continue troubleshooting with Step 4 below. If the colors on the test page do not look correct or are faded or missing, clean the ink cartridges as detailed in the "Cleaning the ink cartridges " section below. Replace the ink cartridge if the correct colors do not print after cleaning the ink cartridge.
Assign a color management profile to the all-in-one. To do this, refer to the following:
Click Start , click Settings , and then click Printers (in Windows XP, click Start , and then click Printers and Faxes ) to open the Printers folder.
In the Printers folder, right-click the HP all-in-one printer icon and then click Properties .
    Click the Color Management tab.
Click Add to see the list of available color profiles.
In the Add Profile Association dialog box, select Diamond Compatible 9300k G2.2.icm .
Click Add and then click OK . Print the file again. If the application does not print in color, use Microsoft Paint to print a document with colors.
Try printing again and see if the colors are better.
When printing on some photo papers, there can be a greenish cast to blacks when photo paper is the selected paper type. Change the Paper Type setting to HP Bright White paper or Plain paper and print the page again.

  • Word 2007 mail merge : problem with mixed portrait and landscape orientations

    Hi there,
    I have a 3 pages document Word 2007 file
This is a mail merge I want to export in PDF using Adobe Acrobat Printer,
then send "big" PDF to printing.
    page 1 is PORTRAIT
    page 2 is PORTRAIT
    page 3 is LANDSCAPE
In PDF pages 1 and 2 are perfectly fine, inside an A4 format (width=210 height=297mm or something)
but for page 3, system changed to a "double" sized page (A3 width=297 height=420) and printed my stuff at the 1st top middle of big page.
So I have a big "double" sheet, oriented PORTRAIT, with my stuff in 1st half, and a blank in 2nd half.
It seems that system did not rotate the page... and just put the stuff into a bigger sheet to "solve" at best.
I would like the same size of paper (A4) but in landscape : width=297 height=210
I have already seen many PDF with mixed portrait and landscape orientations, so what's the thing ?
    With my advanced thanks,
And greetings from Paris, France !

    Some questions:
Which version of office were you using before? 2003?
Are the data files on a network, or on your local machine? If they are on a network, can you make a copy of one of them on your local machine and try again?
Can you open the files directly in Excel? What extension do they have (.xls, or something else?) I am wondering whether access to other file types has been left blocked on your machine but is allowed on your colleague's machine.
Are you just opening the mail merge main document and seeing this message? If so, do you see the same thing if you start with a new document and try to connect to one of these data sources?
Can you confirm that the message is about Access even though you are trying to connect to an Excel file?
(Also, office 2007 has some new stuff - that let's you specify that certain folders are "trusted" . I don't think that ever affected MailMerge but it may be as well to make sure that your documents and data sources are in trusted locations).
Also worth trying to start Word in "Safe mode" - see, e.g. http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/word-help/work-with-office-safe-modes-HP010140792.aspx

  • How to copy and paste a document typed in the EpicWrite (esp. a text typed in Kannada)on a Microsoft Word 2007 page?

    02-03-2012
For last one week, I have been trying in vain to copy and paste a document typed in the Epic Write on a Word 2007 format, so that I can retrieve or modify it anytime without depending on the Internet connection. Whenever, I paste on a webpage, it cannot be edited and when I transfer that on a Word page, only words & figures in English appear and the rest of the text is displayed in blank square boxes.
How I can overcome this problem?

    Are that pages in Unicode?

  • Making a pdf of a 19" x 13" Word 2007 object/text document

How do I create a PDF with Acrobat 9 Pro from a 19" x 13" book cover layout made in Word 2007. When I try to create the Pdf using Adode as my printer half of 19-inch layout is cut off. • How to make images searchable (OCR) when printing from Word 2007 to PDF with Acrobat 10

Good Day, I have checked several forums and the help file, but I can't seem to get a straight answer on this issue.
Our office creates many documents in Microsoft Word 2007 that contain both typed text AND images.  For example, I have a document with a summary section and then a .jpg of an event from Facebook.  We usually Print the document using Adobe PDF and the resulting PDF is searchable with the Find tool.  The problem is that the images contain text and we want that to be searchable as well.  I found posts saying to take the PDF and Print it again as an image and then run the Recognize Text tool.  I have tried this and it does indeed work, although the resulting PDF is grainy looking (even at 600 dpi).
What I would like to know is if there is a way to get the images to be searchable during the conversion from Word to PDF. I could educate my co-workers on how to do this and save the trouble of having to touch each document more than once. Also, I do not like the graininess of the image nor the extra steps involved to convert each document.  It will require a lot more hands on maintenance than I have time for.
Any assistance or clues you can provide on this topic would be appreciated.  Thank you in advance, Paula C.

  • Can Screen Tips be output as Alt Text from RH HTML to Word 2007?

I have a large documentation project that is single-sourced in RH HTML to create WebHelp and printed documentation. My expectation is that if I put screen tips in the image properties, these will be converted to alternate text both in WebHelp and printed documentation. WebHelp is fine. I output to Word 2007 because document cleanup is always required. In my Word file, the screen tip is gone, replaced with the document file path. When converted to PDF, that's what appears as alternate text. Is there any way to get this done short of entering the text twice (in RH HTML and again the Word doc)?

When they upgrade you, RoboHelp will have to be reinstalled and that may fix the problem. You are creating the link using the Rh menu rather Word's menus?
