Importing iTunes Music

Hello.
Is it still the case, with iMovie '11, that it's still recommended that we convert AAC music files to AIF when adding music? I recall in previous versions it WAS recommended for eliminating the audio track from breaking up after it was burned to a DVD.
Thanks!

I have had no trouble with AAC.
If you have MP3, it is worth converting to AIFF.
If you experience trouble with your AAC, it is worth converting to AIFF.
AIFF still seems to be the most trouble free, but I use it when creating tracks in GarageBand. I never convert anything from iTunes. Most of my stuff in iTunes is AAC with no DRM (iTunes+ or encoded from CD). I am not sure what you would find if you had DRM AAC.

  • Importing iTunes music to other programs

Ok so i love making videos. I use Corel VideoStudio Pro X3. I ussually use music from my iTunes library for my videos. I could easily import iTunes music right into Corel's library. Well I was well on my way to finishing a video when a couple of days ago, all of a sudden, Corel wouldn't play iTunes music. And when i try to reimport music from iTunes, it gives me the file format mismatch message. I think it started happening after I got the latest iTunes update. Itunes 9? i think. I would really like to know why all of a sudden I can't use iTunes music for videos.
    Thank you for your time.

Does iTunes still play everything correctly? If so, then it's most likely an issue with the Corel software that you'll need to take up with them. Note that VideoStudio doesn't, according to Corel's web site, accept AAC files, so make sure the files you're trying to use are MP3 or WAV.

  • "importing itunes music library.xml" pops up every time I launch iTunes

My MacBook Pro crashed this morning, requiring a "safe mode" restart. Anyway, on relaunch, everything seems to be working okay now. EXCEPT -- now whenever I first launch iTunes (after rebooting the computer), I get the popup progress box "importing itunes music library.xml" which is followed by a message about the iTunes library being moved to a "iTunes Library (damaged)" message when complete.
I guess my iTunes library has gotten corrupted somehow.
I've searched for this error message and found numerous posts, but all seem to be in reference to moving the iTunes music library from one computer to another.
Can someone assist me in how to correct this problem? I don't want to try resyncing my iPod without fixin this first...

same prob here, but mine goes one step farther (read: worse). i reported in the form from previous post, but no response yet.
in addition to displaying the "importing..." message, the system ultimately indicated that the file was damaged and saved a version as such. Over half my music is not shown in the new file, and thus not in itunes (though the music files are still there.
has anyone figured this out? would hate to have to individually add everytihg back.

  • FCP X can't import iTunes music - says "The song "Warp Factor" could not be used because the original file could not be located."

FCP X can't import iTunes music - says "The song "XXXXX" could not be used because the original file could not be located."
I saw the reply that iTunes was probably moved. I restored it from Time Machine when my hard drive crashed. How do I fix it to import into FCP X?

I figured it out by going into iTunes and clicking on the Library link under File. This bring up a box that allows the music files to be reconnected to the iTunes music folder.
FCP X now sees the music and it can be placed into the project timeline.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

It is against the user's agreement for the iTunes Music Store (as well as against copyright law) to use copyrighted works in your video without proper licensing.

  • Getting Error Message when importing iTunes Music to iMovie 6?

Am I missing something? I used to be able to import my iTunes music to a movie creation in iMovie 6. I'm now getting an error message "Error during import. The file could not be imported: The file could not be found."
I have moved my music to an external drive - don't know if that made a difference.
    Thanks

Interesting...I have moved my iTunes music onto the external drive probably six months ago. That music still works off the external via iTunes. I just looked in iTunes and my preferences are showing my local drive to store music. And recent music that I have purchased (last few months) is showing in the local drive. When I picked one of the songs from the local it works.
So now I guess the question is what will happen if I move the music from the local to the external and reset the preferences in iTunes. It should work right?

  • Importing itunes music to PC video

I made a video of photos using DVD Maker on my PC.  I now want to add music and all my music is stored under itunes because I have an ipad and iphone.  I cannot import music from itunes to the PC DVD Maker....how can I make this happen?  Thanks

    Gayle,
DVD Maker needs the music in MP3 format.
If you have iTunes music in some other format, you can use iTunes to create an MP3 version per this guide:

  • Importing iTunes Music After Carbonite Restore

Trying to free up some space, I did a clean install a few weeks ago after backing up almost my entire HD, including the 41,000+ songs I had in iTunes. Today, after two solid weeks of running my MacBook 24/7, I finished restoring all of my music, which is when I finally realized I hadn't bothered to read Carbonite's instructions as thoroughly as I probably should have.
Basically, I went ahead and re-installed iTunes BEFORE I finished the restore, so that when I open it up, only my cloud music is visible in my library, which is where the fun begins...
My music is indeed on my laptop, living comfortably in it's original iTunes>Music folder, under User Eric, on The Spicy Meatball (the name I gave my HD because I once thought it was "cute" or something). When I open up iTunes from the Meatball (or from the more recently installed iTunes), same thing...no music except for the cloud stuff. Confusingly, while my MacBook SAYS my music is in my iTunes library, iTunes says it isn't whenever I open the app.
I initially just shrugged my shoulders and began importing all 41,000+ songs into my library, but when I got to around 3,700 or so, I noticed I was really only duplicating everything, and would run out of disk space long before it finished importing. In essence, I may have just screwed myself by either not seeing their directions, or buying their product in the first place, and have wasted $70.
I'm not even sure what I'm asking, aside from whether or not there's a work-around here I'm not seeing that would allow me to get my iTunes library back to it's pristine, OCD-level state.
    Thanks. :-)

    BUMMER!
The info displayed by iTunes comes from the ID3 tag which is part of the file sitself. If the ID3 tags are intact then you should see the artist/song/ etc when you add the song fille back to iTunes. Do a drop n drag of a couple of files to the iTunes window and see what happens. Once the tune is back in iTunes then go look for a script from Doug Adams site and that will rename the song files based on ID3 information. No sense doing individyually as there is script that will do it for you. As for the files that play for 20 seconds ..... well they might be scrambled beyond repair. I always do B/U of my tunes as I have a huge amount of *** time invested in managing them.
    Hope this helps a little.

  • Importing itunes music videos

I would like to import my itunes purchased music videos to a folder seperate from itunes music, similar to the fashion that itunes movies are imported.

There isn't a way to set up iTunes to use more than one folder, so you can not have it set up to automatically put music in one place while putting videos into another.
However you can do it manually, but it is a bit of a pain in the arse. Basically you would have to go to your iTunes preferences, change the location of the iTunes Music folder over to your video folder. Exit out of preference. Now add your video files and iTunes will copy them into your video folder. Then go back into preferences and change the iTunes Music folder to the original location for your music.
iTunes will continue to access the videos from the other folder. The preference change only tells iTunes where to put all FUTURE added files to the library. It does not change where any of the current files are accessed from. So you can use this to switch locations before adding new stuff. But you have to remember to change it back before you add any more music and it is all manual.

I've tried drag and drop and I get nothing i've tried impoting but itunes dose'nt recognize.Even when I try to play the music through itunes nothing happens!!

Set iTunes to 'Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library' in Preferences>Advanced>General.

  • How to import itunes music & playlists frm extrnal drive onto new computer?

HI! i have had my itunes library on an external drive for some time because my old laptop didnt have enough memory. i have now purchased a new computer (HP 6700 w/ Vista) with enough memory to hold that library. i think i'd like to import the library to the new computer and leave the external drive and old laptop as back-up. can someone please advise me how to import the library from the external drive onto my new computer in a way that is sure to include all my playlists (im a dj & my playlists are my life!). THANK YOU!!

Ok if you active library file is in the iTubes folder in c:\...My Music, you should have the location of your iTunes Music folder pointing at the folder with you music file on the EHD.
    Look in Edit>>Preferences>>Advanced>>General.
(This just confirms things are as you say).
First you need to be sure all your music files are in the iTunes Music folder that you are using on the EHD. Consolidate if they are not.
I assume that the iTunes Music folder in c:\...My Music\iTunes will be empty if you moved all your files to the EHD.
You need to install iTunes on your new computer, but don't add any new music.
Copy the iTunes folder from your c: drive into a convenient place on your EHD.
Now go to your new PC and, with iTunes closed, drag the iTunes folder out of Music to the desktop.
Now copy the iTunes folder that you just saved on the EHD into Music on the new PC so that it replaces the one you dragged out.
You will probably need to set the permissions on the folder to allow your account full control.
    Vista file folder permissions help

    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/05/25/how-to-take-ownership-and-grant-permiss ions-in-windows-vista/
At this point, you could duplicate your previous setup by setting the location of your iTunes Music folder to the EHD, but you said you wanted the music on the laptop.
Delete the empty iTunes Music folder in c:\...Music iTunes and replace it with the iTunes Music folder from the EHD. If this folder is not called iTunes Music, rename it. Also check the permissions are OK.
With any luck you should now be able to start iTunes and have your library intact.

  • Importing iTunes music, apps, device backups from Time Capsule

Recently my old iMac hard drive crashed.  Fortunately, the data is safe on a Time Capsule, and I'd now like to move all the relevant iTunes data (music, photos, device info and apps) to an existing computer and account.  Any suggestions on how to approach this?

I'd recommend using Migration Assistant, as it does all that you've described, and in a simple, relatively automated manner.
