Importing .midi files into iTunes library

Hello! Can anyone please tell me how to import .midi files into my iTunes library, then convert those files into .mp3 to burn onto a CD?

Does this midi file play elsewhere?
I am getting the file from another location on my hard drive, not from a CD.
Doesn't matter. File -> Add file to library will work if the file is compatible.
Also, when trying to change the import settings, it seems to be for importing from a CD, not from another file location.
It is for importing or converting.

Using Tiger on a G4 iMac, I could drop a MIDI file into my iTunes library and convert it to an mp3 (or other format).

Answering my own question - had iTunes set to Show Duplicates - therefore couldn't see MIDI I dropped in.

I have a lot of them. I click onto add to library select the flac file, click on open and nothing happen.

Hello CESNET the best bet is to try http://blowintopieces.com/fluke/ I myself don't use Flac files but to any audiophile it's important to hear sound at it's best. Also WAV or AIFF & ALAC you will need to use http://tmkk.hp.infoseek.co.jp/xld/index_e.html to convert into ALAC.
P.S. their is also a simple FLAC player but can't remember it one more thing converting FLAC to WAV will not give you full TAGs. Best bet is to try just one file you've copied ether straight into iTunes or convert & see what's best for you.

I can't import mp3 files into iTunes

Just recently, I find that I can't drag/drop (or import) .mp3 files into iTunes (12.1.0.50).
I did confirm that the files aren't locked.

No mp3 files from any source, including iTunes itself, or just some particular batch of mp3s files from some unspecified source? It isn't unusual for some encoders to produce mp3s that are not compliant with iTunes. You can try using the application MP3 Scan+Repair (http://triq.net/mac/mp3-validator-mac-os-x) to fix them but sometimes you have to re-encode them. Try playing with Quicktime Player instead and report if it will play the files.
Oh, it also isn't unusual that files do not have labels built in. They are adding to iTunes but not ending up where you expect them to be.

Yes, S-video cables do not carry sound.
When you import 16:9 into DV Widescreen, make sure that you have UNchecked 'automatic letterboxing'.
In Preferences, is the project set to the correct standard?
29.95 fps = NTSC
25 fps = PAL.

Can't import .m4r file into iTunes 10.0.6.40

Hi. I have a new iPhone 4S with AT&T (first iPhone ever!) and I'd like to create a custom ringtone. I have an .m4r file that is 29 sec long. I'd like to use it as my ringtone. Should be easy enough, right? I've tried dragging and dropping my file into iTunes, and also tried importing it through the menu, but it won't import. I can double click on it and play it in iTunes, but it doesn't import it into the library. Also, I have no RingTones folder. Do I need to create one somehow, and how would that work?

Importing WMV files into iTunes/Converting files

1) How can I import WMV files into my iTunes library? I know iTunes can't import protected files. So is there no way to put those videos on my iPod?
2) I tried to converting a Movie Clip by right clciking on it and pressing 'Convert Selection for iPod' when I imported it. But there's no audio. What's the problem?

After downloading music and dragging into iTunes I end up with multiple copies of the album on my hard drive. I do have the "copy files into iTunes library" checked. When I try to erase one of the copies I end up with red ! in iTunes library.

When I try to delete one of the copies of the album and go back to itunes and try playing a song, I get a red exclamtion point next to the song with an error message saying itunes cannot locate file. My questions are, Does Itunes literally make a copy of the song? If so , How do you know which file to delete?

Sony's own entertainment software on the Vaio plays merry **** with iTunes, worse there's no telling when it will kick in.
First head over to the Sony Vaio site and get the update for the software, that will stop it from messing with the iTunes database/library files when you connect your iPod.

JollyGeri, after I installed the 10.5.3 version a few days ago I began to have the same problem. The first time i used iTunes after the new install is when the problem of not being able toI manipulate my music by dragging and dropping began. My computer is a Mac and it appears you are using Windows Vista so the solution to my problem will likely be different than yours. I'll just mention that on a mac there is a program called disk utility and with that we mac users can have it repair permissions. After a second attempt yesterday to repair permissions I was able to move music by dragging and dropping as I previously could. However, when I opened itunes today and tried, the same problem was back. I've used the disk utility program to repair permissions again but so far the problem persists. I hope someone is able to help you with your situation. If there is a similar type of program on your windows pc, perhaps by repairing the disk permissions you may be able to get your problem solved. This is very frustrating and I believe there is something in the new version of iTunes that has caused this because I have not installed any other upgreades, etc. since downloading and installing the itunes upgrade. Is there a way to import a cd into itunes library unchecked by default?

I'm in the process of importing all of my cd's into itunes library, but I want the tunes unchecked in the library so they won't automatically update into my ipod. Right now I've got itunes set up to automatically import a cd I insert and then eject on complition. Then I have to open the library, find the songs, and uncheck them. Is there a way to automate the unchecking process? Thanks.

I don't know how to automate what you are doing however if it's all the songs in your library that are affected it's quite easy to check or uncheck them all at once without searching.
To check or uncheck all the songs in a list:

Also, if for a period of time you don't want your iPod automatically updated while you are importing your CDs why not change the update option?

Importing WMA files into itunes 4

Is there a way to import my windows WMA files into itunes 4 on my mac? I tried upgrading to the new itunes but the system upgrade of 10.4.9 slowed it down to where it would barely run so I have to keep it with the older version of 10.4.

Ok, I upgraded to itunes 8 and still can't import the WMA files. It says it is importing for a while then just quits. I have over 10gb of music files in WMA format and they are all sorted into folders. Is there a free program to bulk convert all of them to M4A formats so itunes will work with them?

Since recently, whenever I import an MP4 of M4V file into iTunes, it either deletes the audio, or the video becomes shocky.
When I play the same files in VLC they do work. That is great and all, but since I use Apple TV I need them to work in iTunes.
I've tried to delete and re-import the files. I've also tried to download different versions of the same files, which also didn't work.
To me it seems like the problem lies within iTunes.. but I'm not really a computer wiz.
Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix this?

Problem importing MP4 files into iTunes

I'm tearing my hair out here! I've used a DVD ripper to convert a track from a DVD into an (iPod friendly) MP4 format. I then dragged & dropped the MP4 "chapter" into iTunes Library, where it appeared in Movies, but I had to click on Advanced>Convert Selection for iPod. It took iTunes about 1 hour to convert the track & then it played on iPod. (Was SO CHUFFED I'd got it to work!) Flushed with success, I tried doing several tracks at once but when I tried to get iTunes to convert again, I got a message saying the file is already in the correct format. And although file is showing in Library>Movies, it doesnt register in my iPod>Movies and of course it won't play. Please help.

Problems with importing mp4 files into iTunes.

Hi all,
Since a few days I am the proud owner of an iPad 2. When I was looking for a solution to sync my video files (no problems with my pictures nor with my music files), I saw that I had to convert them from .avi to .mp4.
Through this community I learned that there were several free and paid options. Such as handbrake, convertavitomp4.com, etc etc
In the end I have tried around 4, but when trying to get the files into my library of iTunes it fails. In the beginning I did not receive any error message. It just did not work. I tried through CTRL-O, drag and drop. Nothing seems to be working.
Does it have something to do with the fact that I have the newest iTunes (10.5) and the latest OS for the iPad?
Does anyone have The same experience or knows a solution?

I am checking out flex player after your recommendation. However, I have since resolved my problem. I am running windows 7, 64 bit, and discovered that the problem was windows 7 security settings. All my itunes data was on a hard drive that I plugged into my new pc running windows 7. Despite allowing me to access the hard drive in the usual way, I discovered (after some help from someone more knowledgeable) that the problem was that all my itunes data was protected and I did not have "full control" rights in the security settings. Very odd, given that I have only one user account on the pc. And why it could not tell me what the problem was I don't know. But what I did was right click the drive and make sure my user account had "full control" rights and now I can drag and drop movies into itunes. This may not fix your issue but hope you resolve it soon.
