Importing - No Video, Audio Only

I am trying to import footage from my Sony HDR-HC3 HDV 1080i using iMovie '08 on a machine running Leopard.
On the "Import From Camera" screen, the on-screen controls work (e.g. play, stop, FFWD), but no picture shows-up on the screen. Instead, I get a blue screen and can hear the audio, but no clips appear either on the blue screen or on the clips screen behind.
BTW - I do have the camera in VTR mode.
Does anyone know how I can import video from the camera?
Thanks in advance.

Any luck on your import? I have same camera and exact same issue.
Thanks,
Mark

It needs to be in iTunes, with home sharing enabled on computer and Apple TV. When computer is on and running iTunes you will be able to access via the Computers icon on Apple TV
File also needs to be in the correct format
H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High or Main Profile level 4.0 or lower, Baseline profile level 3.0 or lower with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats

  • Music video audio only

I have been trying to find out if it is possible to only play the audio for music videos on the iPhone. I was able to do this with the iPod nano but the iPhone won't let me play just the audio.

    Try this:
    1. Go to iPod and start playing a video
    2. Lock your iPhone. The video will stop playing.
    3. Double press the home button so that the iPod Rewind-Play-Fastforward options appear, and click Play.
You should now be hearing the audio-only of your video.

In that case, you are left with working with the .VOB's. Remember that that material has already been pretty heavily compressed to MPEG-2 already. Quality has been compromised. This will become evident, if you then output to DVD-Video again.
Other than the mechanics of ripping the MPEG-2 from the .VOB, you might want to consider another NLE program. There are some, that will allow for "smart rendering," which will not re-Transcode material that has not been altered. I do not have a list of which NLE's will allow for this, unfortunately. I have heard that Sony Vegas offers this but do not know, as I have never used it. Some folk have mentioned a Corel product, but again, I have no experience. You might want to Google for "smart rendering," and see which programs show up. Also, others here might well have good recs., and experience. I just do not, as I seldom am faced with having to edit from .VOB's. When I am, I just point out the quality hit, and urge the client to get the original material. Guess I'm just lazy. Heck, I might even have a program that does do smart rendering, and just do not know it... ?
    Good luck,

  • No video - audio only

iMovie doesn't show any video in the player, just audio.
    Here's some background:
I got a new laptop, used Apple Migration Assistant to migrate from my old computer with OSX 10.6.1 and iLife '08 to my new computer with OSX 10.6.1 and iLife '09.
I have several videos shot with a Canon G9, a Canon 5D Mk2, and a Flip HD. Each of these videos will play in Quick Look and Quicktime, but when I import them into iMovie, I only get audio and nothing happens at all in the video window. I tried exporting them and indeed it only exports the audio.
Thinking perhaps it is a codec thing, I've tried converting them to nearly every codec available using MPEG Streamclip. With no luck at all. Even the usually recommended AIC codec won't show any video.
I tried removing iMovie (with Appcleaner), thinking that maybe it was because I migrated from '08-'09. Reinstalled - same issue. I've rebooted, opened Quicktime, installed Quicktime 7...
I'm at a loss. Anyone encounter this before?

I've just encountered this too, *+but only in HD format+*. Sharing wasn't producing audio (either to media brower or iDVD), so I chose "Share>Export Movie". I did a test on a project created from a 5 second clip from the offending and the successful event (life is too short). Working my way through Tiny, Mobile, Medium, Large and HD, all other "movies" had sound, that is the .3gp and m4v files.
Only the HD export to .mov didn't.
The event was HD from a Sony HC7E handicam. The really strange part is that another event, input on the same day, did carry the sound over when the project was shared through the media browser. Even stranger is the fact that the successful project doesn't have the orange line in the corresponding events (is there a clue here?). Each event was around 40 minutes.

  • I tried to import some videos and only about half of them would import. Any ideas why?

So I have a folder on my desktop that has all of my videos and pictures in it. Only a few of the videos will import, the others will not. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I am just going to import then import media from files. I have a folder on my desktop that has all my home videos in it that I didn't simply import through my camera. One video, imparticular, that won't import says it's a Quicktime Video and I will post a snapshot of the rest of the info.

  • Adobe Media Encoder Produces No Video -- Audio Only

I'm encoding a .mov file (it's only about 10 seconds long) to a Web 320 x 240 500kbps .f4v file, and when it's finished, the encoded file is just a black screen with audio playing.

Try encoding it to a different preset. If it changes is, maybe there's a setting in the export settings within that preset that is disabling the video channel.

  • No Video (audio only) Playing MP4 or M4V in QT Pro 7

    I have QuickTime Pro 7.6.6
MacBook Pro - 2.33 GHz Intel Core Duo
    OSX version 10.5.8
    2 GB Ram
When I try to play MP4 or M4V files, I don't get any video, just audio when trying to play them with QuickTime Pro. The weird thing is, the same files will play OK from the finder window using preview (space bar). These same files will generally play OK in Final Cut Pro 6 too. I only have problems trying to play them with QuickTime Pro. I think I used to be able to play these files in the past, (but I'm so old now, it's hard for me to be sure).
I also have a MacPro Desktop machine OSX 10.6.4 - 2 X 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon and QuickTime 7.6.3 and the same files play fine using QT Pro.
Sorry if this has been asked and answered before. I spent a couple of hours searching and reviewing posts and couldn't find anything that addressed my problem.

How would I go about posting a short sample though? I've never done that before.
Generally speaking, most mail clients will allow an attachment of 20 MBs or less if you want to email it. Larger sample files are normally posted to an online server. If you have a MobileMe account, the easiest thing to do would be to post it to your public area (or gallery or an iWeb page). If you don't have an Apple account, you can try posting it to your ISP server space. (I.e., most ISPs provide varying amounts of user space but you would have to check your ISP FAQs to learn how much space is provided and how to access your space. Lastly, some online sites provide space on a third-party basis if you sign up with them. These services may be free or incur a monthly charge. As a last resort, you can contact me at my profile email address for an additional alternative.
Do MP4 files play in QuickTime 7 for you?
Yes, compatible MPEG-4 and H.264 (MPEG-4/AVC) files play under QT 7 (OS 10.4.11, 10.5.8, and 10.6.5) and QT X (OS 10.6.5) on various platforms I'm still using in MP4, M4V, and MOV file containers. However, remember that there are many "flavors" of MPEG-4 content and some may require third-party codec component to be compatible with QT. In addition, some codec combinations cause conflicts when installed together on the same system. (E.g., the Perian component package may not play well with DivX components installed.)

  • Samsung Note 3 importing MP4 video audio doesn't sync

I recorded a video clip in my Samsung Note 3 smartphone at 1920 x 1080. The video is MP4. When I import it into Premiere the audio doesn't sync. I've tried to convert the video into a wmv and mov using a conversion tool and the problem gets worse. The MP4 clip plays perfectly on my Windows 7 64bit PC. I'm using Adobe Premiere CC 7. Any ideas?

MP4 is a wrapper, what is inside YOUR wrapper - Exactly what is INSIDE the video you are editing?

  • Capture Problem - No Video-Audio only TC

    Hello,
I haven't had this problem before, and I've done a search on this forum. But none of the solutions that seemed to have worked for other posters has worked for me. So here we go.....
    I'm using OS 10.4.11, QT 7.4.1, FCP 6.0.2 on a Dual 2.5GHz G5, Decklink Extreme.
I'm trying to capture MiniDV material on a Sony HVR M15 player (Pal version) via Firewire. In the Log&Capture window, I can control the player, and I see the TC, but no Audio or Video comes through. I've checked the deck controls, the tapes are recognised as MiniDV 50i.
I get video and audio with the Blackmagic Deckcontrol app, but that is rather clumsy.
No other device uses a FW port. Capturing to my 2nd internal harddrive.
I hooked the deck up to my Intel MBP and I got a glimpse of video, but then it disappeared and I got the same problems as with the G5.
On the G5, I then trashed my prefs, shut down, waited for 5 minutes, started the deck, turned on the G5, tried it again, no use.
I used Easy Setup DV-PAL, btw....
Anyone have any ideas, am I missing something? I know the deck works, I hooked it up to my TV via composite out.
    Sheesh, always when it rains.....
    Cheers,
    Colin

    Hi X,
good to know that. however, in my case the fw cable wasn't attached. I had to attach the deck to my telly, which is in another room. Well, I did get some excercise yesterday.
But thanks for your help. One thing I know is that I won't hire this deck again. It wouldn't work with my G4/G5/MBP, different OSX and FCP versions.
Oh well, I wouldn't mind so much if it hadn't also wrecked one tape. I guess if things go wrong, they REALLY go wrong.
Ok, gotta go through the material now, try and do something nice with it.
Hope you'll have a better week and thanks,
    Colin

  • Importing live video/audio into Premiere Pro 5.5???

    Hey everyone,
I am starting a Youtube channel and I am using a video camera with a seperate mic hookup, I was wondering if there is a way to hookup the camera to the computer and display the feed into Premiere Pro. In addition the files from the camera would go into a folder I would designate for all my premiere files. obviously it is not necessary, I could simply record and then transfer the file to my computer then import into premiere but I was hoping I could combine all the steps into one
    Any suggestions?
Would camtasia or another software be more useful?
Does anyone else have suggestions for possible easier ways to setup this up even if not involving premiere?

A camcorder with a firewire output connected to Premiere will allow the capturing of the live feed from the camera (assuming that the computer has a firewire connector.)
For capturing HD direct from a camera will need a Blackmagic card / box (or similar from another manufacturer).
I have captured SD video via firewire, so that works, but never HD - even though I have a BM intensity pro card.

  • Every time I open Firefox , a recently opened e-mail video (audio only) plays in the background of my new web site .I`ve tried to restore the desk top back to an earlier date with no luck. Please advise.. Ken

I`m getting the same background audio when I open Firefox every time.

Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox [[Profiles|profile folder]] to reset the extensions registry.
    See "Corrupt extension files": http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions
If you see disabled extensions that are not compatible on the next start in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the "Find Updates" button to do a compatibility check.

I'm getting the following message on screen when attempting to capture video  "audio only capture selected, video preview disabled."  How can I get the view preview back?

FCE doesn't allow for audio only capture, it's in a twist somewhere.
    Try trashing the FCE preferences.

  • Importing VHS video into FCE4 via a camcorder

    Hello,
I’m trying to import some old family videos that were recorded on an old VHS camera (now long departed) into Final Cut Express 4 using a Sony DCR-TR330 camcorder & a VHS player.
The camcorder is connected to my iMac via the firewire interface, the VHS player is connected to the “audio/video” input on my camcorder
When I press play on the VHS player the video appears in the Final Cut Express 4 capture window (the audio also plays) When I click “Capture Now” on the capture window I get the message:
    “Waiting for Timecode
Device must be in VTR mode when Device Control is enabled”
If I first record the VHS video onto a Hi8 tape in the camcorder, I can then import the video (& audio) into FCE4 using the “Capture Now” button.
Is there any way to import the video straight into FCE8 instead of first having to transfer it to the Hi8 format.
    Thanks for any help.
    John Hutchinson

Many thanks for your prompt reply,
I am now able to capture straight from VHS to FCE4
    Kind Regards
    John Hutchinson
