Importing photos from iPhoto 4 to 6

Recently bought a new iMac with iPhoto 6 on it and want to import my iPhoto 4 library on my iBook to the iMac. Can't seem to do it. I was told at the Apple Store it wasn't possible, have to do it manually. Anyone know otherwise?

COpy the iPhoto Library Folder from the old machine to the new one - put in the Home/Pictures folder. Then Download BatchMod from
http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:
http://homepage.mac.com/toad.hall/.Pictures/Forum/BatChmod.png
(Credit to Old Toad for this one).
This is to correct any file permissions issues that can arise.
Then Launch iPhoto on the new machine. Read the warning, and it will convert the v4 library to a v6 one.

  • Iphoto 9.5 won't import photos from iPhoto 7.5.  Library will not update using the iPhoto library upgraded application.

iphoto 9.5 won't import photos from iPhoto 7.5.  Library will not update using the iPhoto library upgrader application.  Repeatedly says it can't locate photos even when told to cancel.  I think the photos in question are in Nikon RAW format.

iPhoto 9.5 immediately tries to "upgrade" my library using the upgrader.
iPhoto 9.5 asks you to run the upgrader to prepare the library for 9.5. It then will update the library to its format.
You need to do the following:
1 - go to your Applications/Utilities folder and double click on the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application.
2 - select Choose Library, navigate to your iPhoto library, select it and let the upgrader do its thing.
3 - launch iPhoto 9.5 to open and finish the conversion of the library.

  • How can i import photos from iphoto 9.2.3 to 9.6

I am migrating from a 2009 ibook to a Macbook pro 13.3 retina. How can  can I import photos from iPhoto 9.2.3 library to  the 9.6 iPhoto.
I am running 10.6.8 snow leopard on the ibook which has 4Gb of memory.
I tried but it just loaded icons to the 9.6 library.
I am reluctant to go to Yosimite on the ibook and it seems this would not solve it anyway.

You don't import one library to another.  Just copy the library from the iBook to the Pictures folder on shout new MacBook Pro. If you have another library already on the MBP rename it so you don't overwrite it with the old library.
Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select the newly copied library and let iPhoto convert it to the new version.
Do you have photos in the library on the new MacBook Pro that you want to combine with the older library?

How can I import photos from iPhoto-library to edit in Photoshop CC? - and save it back to the iPhoto-library?

How to access iPhoto images for use in Photoshop
    1. In the Finder, navigate to Users > [user name} > Pictures > iPhoto Library.
    2. Control-click the iPhoto Library file and choose Show Package Contents.
    3. A Finder window opens that shows the contents. The Masters folder (or called Originals folder) contains all of the photographs that are in iPhoto.
Photoshop cannot access this folder, but if you make a duplicate of the folder, the dupe will be accessible -- so:
    4. Control-click the folder named Masters (or Originals) and choose Duplicate.
5, Drag the duplicate folder which is named "Masters copy" or “Originals copy” from the iPhoto Library Finder window to the Desktop.
    6. Open images in Photoshop from file on desktop.
7  Rename the folder and move it elsewhere (probably to the Pictures folder), if desired.

How many did you trash at one go? iPhoto will baulk and possibly corrupt if you try trash too many at one go. Expereinced users recommend getting rid of them in batches of about 100 or so.
What's your plan for the remaining images in the iPhoto Library (the 2k photos and 4 videos)?

  • When trying to import photos from iPhoto organizer 12 crashes

I installed new photoshop elements 12 and when It attempted to import photos from iphoto 9.5.1 it get to the 7th picture and then locks up, I have to force quit app. What can the problem be? I tried importing a few photos and it worked ok, I attempted to import using files and folders and it locked up again.

You're sure you want to stop using iphoto? Then I would try it this way instead:
Export each event in your iphoto library separately, put the photos where you want to keep them and use "from files and folders". If there's an event that the organizer chokes on, then you'll have to go into that one photo by photo to see where the problem lies. (You are aware that using "from iphoto" is duplicating your entire iphoto library, so you don't want to do that AND keep using iphoto, right?)

  • Importing photos from iphoto into idvd

I am trying to import photos from iphoto into idvd for a slideshow. When the photos move into idvd they are not in the same order as they were in the iphoto library. What could be the possible cause of this?? I did go into iphoto and place comments in after the fact. Would that have anything to do with it?

Try this possible solution from acgray on Mac OS X Hints:
I have worked with many users who like to take iPhoto albums and make DVDs of them with iDVD. However, one very annoying bug (feature?) has to do with the fact that when you are in iDVD, it randomizes the sort order of the Photos in your album. Not only that, but it is painstaking and time consuming changing the order in iDVD.
    My solution..
Select All in the album in iPhoto you want to use in iDVD as a slideshow. Then use File -> Export -> File Export. The secret is to select "Use Album Name" as this will rename the images in sequential order, based on the order that you put them in. Save them in their own new folder somehwere easy to find (ie on the Desktop).
Then, in iDVD, either drag, or I believe you can import the entire folder into the Slideshow project window, and voila! your slides are in order. I believe you can throw away the folder with the exported images as they should now be saved into the Project, but don't quote me on that.

  • When importing photos from iphoto to Aperture....

When importing photos from iphoto to Aperture 3 it shows two versions of each image. One is original and one is iphoto edited.  It shows this for every picture even if it was never edited in iphoto.  Has anyone ever experienced this?  Is so, what image should I use to edit in iphoto?

This is asked and covered a lot here, a search of the list will bring up numerous other threads covering this. Also the More Like This box on the right side of the page will show you other posts on this topic.
This post, Duplicates when importing from iPhoto is the most recent example.
Briefly iPhoto took even the most trivial change to an image as an edit and created a new image. The most common reason for this is rotated images.
As for which image of the two you want to keep, that's entirely up to you. If there is really no difference between the two then you can keep either it makes no difference.
The thread I linked to above will explain how to use Aperture's filters to gather up all of one or the other.

  • Problem importing photos from iPhoto

I want to import photos from iPhoto. I only want to import photos from two or three albums in iPhoto on my iMac. When I plug in the iPad Air, I choose sync from selected albums. I choose the albums I want to import from and click on "sync" or "apply". When the sync process gets to step 5, "importing photos", it stays on that step never able to proceed to step 6. Is this an iCloud problem? Thanks for your help.

I found out what the problem was. "iCloud Photo Sharing" was turned off on my iPad. Now everything is working great. I would have just deleted the inquiry, but I could not find out how to do that.

  • Dropbox "Import Photos from iPhoto" Killing HD Space?

I just up-graded to 1 TB Dropbox Pro account (Dropbox 2.10.41, Yosemite 10.10) and hoped that "Import Photos from iPhoto" (under preferences -> import) would be a great way of backing-up my iPhoto library without the hick-ups reported in this forum when moving the library folder to a dropbox folder.
It seems though that now all my photos are not only copied to the cloud but also duplicated on my local hard drive
Right or wrong? If right, that would be ridiculous because it would kill HD space unnecessarily, wouldn't it?

Thank you for your prompt response!
I am aware that Dropbox is not a feature of iPhoto, and I have spent considerable time researching the web to find an answer to my question before posting here - but I didn't find an answer.
I also found the link on aurelio.net which you have posted, but even after reading it twice, it does not seem to answer the question of duplicating photos on the local HD.
I highly appreciate the quality of this forum with an outstanding level of expertise, and I thought the expert Mac users might be able (and willing) to provide some advice even if Dropbox is not an Apple product.
