In a fixed-layout epub is there a way to turn off the faux spine effect for just one pair of pages?

I'm formatting a graphic novel as a fixed-layout epub.  Because the pages are generated in Manga Studio with an intended print target, it by far makes the most sense to just use a single, large image for each page.  I'm coding the .opf, .xhtml, and .css files by hand, and I more or less understand everything I'm doing.
Because the pages are often full bleed, I actually want the faux book chrome afforded by having <meta property="ibooks:binding">true</meta>.  The shadow effect in the gutter gives a nice deliniation between the pages without me having to do anything additional with the formatting.
However... a handful of pages in the book are two-page spreads.  These look good enough with the shadow spine in the middle, but they would obviously look better without it.  What I'd like to do is identify these particular page pairs as two-page spreads and turn the binding chrome off for just that page pair.  I could of course "fake it" by adding a shadow to the pages themselves (except the spreads) and turning off the binding chrome on the entire book, but it'd be a lot easier to be able to do it in software.
Apple's formatting guide mentioned nothing of the sort, and searching for a while hasn't turned up anything (not even anyone asking the same question so far as I can tell).  I'm guessing this isn't possible, but it never hurts to ask.  Anybody know of a way to do this?

Just found this... Sorry to waste the post...

  • When sharing screen from work with my home computer, is there any way to turn off the display at home?

Hi, sorry if this is a silly question, but when I'm viewing my desktop on the home computer from work (as in I've connected by finding my computer in the finder and hit the "Share Screen" button - is there any way to turn off the display at home? It seems a bit of a waste of power to have the screen on when I'm not actually there - I just need to be able to see all my programs etc on the remote screen in order to use them. My home computer is a 2011 iMac running latest Mountain Lion, work is a 2010 MacBook Pro.
    Thanks in advance!
    Matt

I've set up another user on my home Mac and left that one logged in. Now when I connect from work it asks me if I want to share the screen or log on virtually as my user. I think choosing the second option doesn't power up the screen.

  • Is there any way to turn off the auto formatting in Pages?  I just want to type a letter and add pictures and titles, and Pages keeps changing font sizes and doesn't let me "Do it my way".  I HATE this!

Is there any way to turn off the auto formatting in Pages?  I'm using a blank document, so I figured I could write my letter and add pictures any way I wanted to.  But NO!  Pages keeps changing the font size!  I typed a large heading as a title, and when I try to change to a smaller font for the body of the letter, it changes the size back to the larger size!  I am getting SO FRUSTRATED!  I've spent over an hour trying to get the stupid program to let me just type my letter!  Can anyone help?

The only one left is the "unsubmitted text" dialogue, which would not be a problem if I were not a Facebook user; after updating the "Richard is..." field (which does not require a manual submit to actually send) I get the above message. This is obviously Safari just not realising that the info has been sent and is therefore (I imagine) one for Apple themselves to answer!!
You're welcome Rich. Glad to help.
Not being a Facebook User, I'm not sure how to respond to the error situation. However, this would be something to report to Apple as a bug via the Safari Menu. First, open to the page in question, then select "Report Bugs to Apple".

  • I noticed that touch id can be bypassed by swiping and entering passcode.  Is there any way to turn off the passcode, so the phone can ONLY be unlocked using your fingerprint?

I noticed that touch id can be bypassed by swiping the screen and entering your passcode.  Is there any way to turn off the passcode, so the phone can ONLY be unlocked via fingerprint?  I liked the idea of having the extra security of a fingerprint sensor, but not if the phone can still be unlocked using only the passcode.  Then, what's the point of touch id?  Am I missing something here?

What happens if the touch ID sensor gets broken?  It is a backup method to get in to your device.
Consider editing your lock screen passcode, changing it from a simple 4 digit code, to a longer more complex password.

Is there any way to turn off the download function in safari offline reading list?

Don't think so.  The point of the offline reading list is to allow you to read it later without going online.  It has to download the content to make this possible.

  • Is there any way to turn off the volume rocker of the side of the iPad?

Is there any way to turn off the volume rocker of the side of the iPad?
Please help!!!!!! I forever have the square with the volume control on my screen because my volume rocker does not work.

You could try a reboot:  Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad should restart.  If that doesn't get rid of the volume control box on your screen, it's time to make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your Apple Store, and they can send your iPad off for service.

  • Is there any way to turn off the ical feature whereby someone emails you a meeting date/time and it automatically goes on your iCal?

Is there any way to turn off the iCal feature whereby when someone emails you a meeting date/time and it automatically appears on your calendar?  Once there they can't even be edited or deleted.

    Greetings,
What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
You should be able to delete events in iCal as long as they are not from a "Subscription" calendar.  Subscriptions show up on the left hand side of iCal under the "Subscription" category if you have any.
You can tell iCal to not check your mail program for invites by going and unchecking the box found in iCal > Preferences > Advanced > "Automatically retrieve..."
    Hope that helps!

  • Is there a way to turn off the function in Lion that re-opens the last project you worked on in a given program?

Is there a way to turn off the function in Lion that re-opens the last project you worked on in a given program?

Dealing With The Resume Feature of Lion
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.
It is possible to completely stop the Resume feature although I'm unconvinced that it is that annoying. Nevertheless see the following:
If you have not yet done so you must first make your /Home/Library/ folder visible. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the prompt paste the following command line:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN. Quit the Terminal application.
In the Finder navigate to the /Home/Library/Saved Application State/ folder. Delete the contents of the folder. Back up to the /Home/Library/ folder. Select the Saved Application State folder. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Sharing and Permissions panel at the bottom click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window.
Quit all open programs except the Finder (this is very important.) Next, navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Look for a .plist file with "com.apple.loginwindow." in the file name followed by some numbers in hexadecimal. Select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and in the Sharing and Permissions panel click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window. If you also find a file with the same filename but with a last extension of ".lockfile," then you should delete it.
The above should eliminate the Resume feature system-wide. Note that any future system updates or upgrades will likely undo these changes. You will then need to repeat this procedure assuming there are no major changes in OS X related to it.

  • Is there any way to turn off the "zooming" animation In IOS 7?

The continual zooming / animation that occurs every time I move in and out of an app, is incredibly tiresome after a while - especially when using multiple apps for business.  Is there anyway to turn this off?

No there is now way to turn off the screen animations, with the exception of the paralax effect (The moving background) which is what the Reduce Motion option is for.
If you really hate the effects, you need to submit your feedback via Apple's feedback page, http://www.apple.com/feedback
They don't really monitor these forums for this type of feedback.  There are a lot of threads that address this problem and some people have even reported becoming motion sick because of the zooming in and out effects.

  • Is there a way to turn off the message alert "Cellular data is turned off for _____"?

I turned off cellular data for about half of my apps so I don't go over my data limit (Thanks AT&T). Now every time I open these apps a message alert pops up saying "Cellular Data is Turned Off for _____. You can turn on cellular data for this app in Settings" And it gives two buttons, "Settings" and "Ok".
If it were only a few times, I wouldn't care about closing this message. But now that I have to do it like 20-30 times a day, it has become SUPER ANNOYING. Seriously Apple, how do I turn your stupid message off??? I TURNED OFF MY CELLULAR DATA FOR A REASON, please stop reminding me of what I already know.
AND the worst part is, when that message pops up it locks the phone so the home button doesn't work. Pretty lame software feature in my opinion.

There is a fix for this!  I was about to jailbreak my phone to cure this issue, but found the answer on another thread.
Go to settings/notification center.  Select the app in question and turn the slider for "allow notifications" to ON.  Turn off the sliders below for sounds, etc. Now it shows up in the notification center separately  (or seemingly not at all) and not on your screen when you switch to the app.  Good luck!
