In iPhoto, my thumbnails show but larger images do not, why?

I am having trouble with some of my larger images not showing up in iPhoto. I click on "Faces" and go into pictures of my mom that I have tagged. I see all the thumbnail images of her, but when I click to view the images larger, it doesn't show the picture. It shouws a triangle with a !
I am running iPhoto '11 (version 9.2.1)

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I can see the thumbnails for the pictures in an album, but when I click on the picture I get a large exclamation point in a triangle. Do I have to rebuild?

Duplicate cleaner ccan have made it worse, if you let it remove the originals. That is, what the exclamation mark is indicationg - missing originals.

Try resetting the crop tool.
To the right of the tool option bar, click on the little horizontal lines and you should see reset tool option.

Try temporarily turning off all your firewall and antivirus software until the download has completed.

When I attach images to an email they show as the image and not an icon. Is there a way to make the attachment an icon?

They are received as attachments, i.e. icons. What you see is the real image on your disk, and only if small enough to be displayed. Otherwise, they are small icons inserted in the text.
Additionally, when you place an image in the message, you will find an option in the lower right corner, otherwise absent. Use it, if need be.

What is the problem specifiaclly?
If the images are intended for web use I would recommend converting them to sRGB which could be done with Edit > Convert to Profile or with File > Save for Web, but as including a Save step in Actions and applying them as Batch can sometimes cause problems I would go with regular converting.
You could also try Image Processor Pro.

Just updated to Iphoto 9.1.3 but the slideshow feature not working

Just updated to Iphoto 9.1.3 but the slideshow feature not working at all. Screen goes white but any features selected, nothing is produced .The themes preview windows are blank too. is there something missing?

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

IPhoto 11: Thumbnails show as normal, but photos are blank

Hello everyone.   I have a problem that I bet is common, but I'm not seeing it here in the discussions, maybe from people describing it as different things.
I just opened iPhoto 11 to access some photos, went through the thumbnails, found the ones I wanted, clicked...and I get a black screen.   Same for ALL the photos I've tried.
I know there have been many people with problems after upgrading to iPhoto 11, but I have had it for some time without issues, in fact the most recent photos I'd imported into the program were a month ago, when it seemed to be working normally.
I made a backup copy of my iPhoto Library, and used two of the 'rebuild' functions, 'Repair the iPhoto Library Database' and 'Examine and Repair the iPhoto Library file permissions' but the problem is still there.
Will likely go ahead with the rest of the 'Rebuild' functions but would welcome some knowledgeable advice.

Yesterday I d/led the demo version of iPhoto Library Manager, opened it, and it immediately 'found' the Library and everything displayed correctly--within iPLM.
Curious if that would carry over to iPhoto itself, I then opened it and...it did.   Then I closed iPLM and iPhoto, reopened the latter by itself, and again it was fine.   24 hrs later it all seems back to normal.
I have no idea how iPhoto Library Manager works but it solved this problem.

IPhoto '09 - Thumbnails visible but no photos! (exclamation mark)

I'm in a bit of pickle here and I hope someone can help me. I take photos pretty regularly. Nothing mind-blowing, but I use my iPhone to take pics of my dogs, my girlfriend, etc. I sync my phone pretty much everyday and I just realised today that I'm missing a bunch of photos that span over 4-5 months. The thumbnail for the album itself is BLANK, but when I go into the album all the thumbnails for the photos are still there. However, when I try to maximise the photo I get nothing but a big grey exclamation mark.
I have tried different things like 'Open in Finder' and expanding the iPhoto app to show the folders inside and then try to find the photos myself, but nothing seems to work. I have also tried rebuilding my library with no success. I checked my recent Time Machine save, but somehow the iPhoto backup shows the same events in my iPhoto having issues. I don't understand how this could have happened, because I upload and sync my iPhone so often that I should've noticed at one point over the last month that my photos were missing - I have trouble believing I could've missed these missing events over the last month every single time I synced. But my last save shows the same thing and I don't understand how this is possible. I'm stupid for not having backed up my photo collection another way, but I thought I was being pretty careful.
Is there a bug that can cause this? What else can I do to get my photos back? or am I simply S.O.L.? I have read about many horror stories about iPhoto 09 but nothing that covers my situation closely enough to help me.
Any help would be appreciated. I apologise if I wasn't clear or if I didn't give you enough details.

I have what I thought was a similar problem, only now I'm not so sure. It seems instead to be linked to the faces feature.
I recently migrated from a macbook to a macbook pro. However my 30K pictures are contained not on the computer but on a separate external HD. I plugged the HD into the new iphoto '09 and get all the thumbnails. However when I click on one the screen goes dark: no photo. I read this thread but before rebuilding anything, since the photos wouldn't have really been affected by migration assistant, I don't think, I decided to just quit iphoto and see if things fixed themselves this way. When I reopened iphoto indeed the pictures do load at first, but then after faces starts scanning it stops bringing up any photos.
So.... it takes a very long time to scan 30K faces but when it finally does, I get instructions to click on a photo, then on faces and start identifying photos. I can't get that far because, again, when I click on a photo the faces feature does highlight, only I can't see the photo.
¿ Does it really make sense to rebuild the library under these circumstances? I don't see how it can have been affected by the migration.
¿ Any ideas how to get faces to stop disabling access to the full photos, if that's what's happening?

p.s. The old library was set up for iphoto '07 (or whatever came before iphoto '09) and upon trying to open up in iphoto '09 I was prompted to tweak the library for the new software ... I wonder if that could have resulted in a need to rebuild?

Firefox shows much larger images than in Internet Explorer

When I open a site like (BankofAmerica) in Internet Explorer the The site opens in the size I am use too!. If I do the same in FireFox site shows too large to work with it. I have had the problem for several months. So I have had to switch to Internet Explorer.
Any suggestions?

KM Thumbnail Explorer Layoutset, few images do not preview issue

Hi, I'm using a thumbnail explorer layoutset to display thumbnail image previews of jpg images in a km folder. For some reason, 3 out of 20 images are not displaying in the thumbnail view. In place of the image it shows a small icon in the lower left area that depicts a letter icon with an image icon on top. Anyone know what causes this or what is required to correct it? Note, the image displays ok when the icon is clicked, just the preview is not available.

thanks very much for your reply. After investigating the file size for the particular files, they were indeed all over 8mb. I am in the process of resizing the files to see if it works. I'm sure it will.

Initial postion of image changed but now image does not move

hi can any one solve this problem please, i have been trying to change the initial position of my image when i run it 1st on java textpad......
i seem to have moved the initial position of the image by the following >

IPhoto 11...Thumbnails show, but pictures gone??

Recently I went under iPhoto to find a picture I needed from an event that happened last year. When I went under iPhoto, all my thumbnails/events show just fine, but when I double click one of the pictures in the events and it shows in the large window a black triangle with an exclamation point in the middle. This has happened with virtually all my photos. I've tried holding down command + option and ran through each option listed there, to no avail...any other ways to recover my photos?
I'm on OS X 10.7.3 and iPhoto version 9.2.2.

Thumbnail appears but no image in the display field

I have downloaded several photos from the same Canon camera into Image Browser (software that comes with the camera) and I have imported them into iPhoto 6 but only some appear in the display area for editing etc. They all appear as thumbnails in the upper field. The ones that wont display when double clicked show a grey field with dotted white square and ominous exclamation mark! If there is some explanation that goes with this in iPhoto I can't find it. How do I get the images to work?

Assuming that you haven't changed things in the iPhoto Library Folder, and rebuilding doesn't work, try downloading iPhoto Library Manager and rebuilding with it. You can read about it here:http://homepage.mac.com/bwebster/iphotolibrarymanager.html
You could also try to force rebuild the iPhoto cache by going to Home / Library /Caches and delete the iPhoto Folder there.
However, if none of these work, then you may have a seriously corrupted database. In that case, you'll need to create a new library and start from scratch. To rebuild the library: move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find there the Originals folder. From there drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
