In lion, how do I change settings so Safari opens to homepage only

Just go to > Safari preferences>Click "General" tab on Homepage type your homepage
Example http://www.youhomepage.com/startpage/ this should work that's how i set my home page for example
if you want it to be apple startpage is( http://www.apple.com/startpage) also you can uncheck the open windows at login box and set safary to empty History when quicks

I want to change the way Safari opens a file type. Specifically the AVI file type. I would like Safari to cause VLC Player to launch, outside of Safari, and play the AVI file. I don't find that Safari provides me with a method to change how Safari will open a file. Presently Safari will do nothing when I pull down the file menu, select "open", and then select an AVI file from a disk folder. I have Opera, Firefox and IE launching VLC,,,, but not Safari.

To further clarify what Thomas said, when you access the "Desktop and Screen Saver" control pane with both monitors on and active, you should see desktop selection panes appear on both screens. Mouse over to the other screen, choose a desktop on that screen's pane, and the desktop image that you chose should be set for that desktop only.
(This also applies if you use more than two screens.)
