In Mountain Lion Image Capture only recognizes Canon SLR camera under root user

Being a school of fine arts we are using Canon 5D MKII cameras for use in Dragon Frame stopmotion.
In OS X 10.8.4 the camera shows up in System Information > USB but is not recognized in Image Capture (and Dragon Frame) when the user is logged in as a network- or standard user.
Using an local admin account the camera is sometimes recognized ('fuzzy logic') and is always recognized when logging in as a root user.
In Snow Leopard this problem does not exist but a rollback to Snow is not an option because Adobe CS 6 Premiere does not function well under 10.6.8.
The root user 'solution' suggests that it is permission related.
We found this problem on all our iMacs and we tried PRAM zapping and different cameras and cables.
Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

Have you tried repairing permissions in Disk Utility?

  • Mountain Lion Image Capture won't recognize my Canon MP800 Scanner

My MP800 is able to print from my new iMac but it is not even recognized for scanning.  Is this something that will be corrected soon?  It's a bummer to have this perfectly good all-in-one printer/scanner from Canon and now it won't scan.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I already downloaded all the Canon drivers that are available for Mountain Lion.  Still nothing.
I also tried using Preview ... same story.
Another writer had this concern with his Canon MP600.

Assuming you downloaded and installed these from the Canon website:

Then I would recommend you perform the following:
Your Model apparently needs to use Apple's "Print & Scan" which is found in Applications>System Preferences>"Print & Scan".  There you will follow the following instructions from the HP Support site to Scan, for instance:
Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the automatic document feeder (ADF) if your printer has one.
Click the Apple menu (# ), and then click System Preferences .
    Click Print & Scan (# ).
Click your printer in the left pane.
Click Scan , and then click Open Scanner .
Click Show Details . The details of the scan display, including options to change scan settings.Figure 4: Example of the Show Details scanning screen#
Change any scan settings as necessary, and then click Scan .NOTE: Make sure to select either the Flatbed mode or the Document Feedermode, depending on your printer and how you plan to scan.
    Hope this helps

  • Mountain Lion Image Capture won't recognize my Canon MP600 Scanner

I'm not sure when it happened as I don't use my scanner all that much but at some point in the last month or so Image Capture can'is no longer able to see my scanner. It's a multi function Canon MP600 printer/scanner. I can still print but no go on scanning. I checked out the Canon site for drivers/updates but there are none. System Report sees the MP600 and like I said, I can print just not scan. I'm running 10.8.2.
Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated.
    Joe

This might have been my fix, too. I did as this instructed; however, after installing v.2.11 from Apple's site and deleting the printer, then adding it back again (I also unplugged and replugged the printer), nothing changed.
I then did as "noseyp" below suggested and at the Canon site added the scanner driver for Mac OS 10.7. That process (after I bypassed my security roadblock), required a computer restart.
So was is it v.2.11 installation (plus the restart) that made the difference? Or was it the 10.7 scanner driver? I won't know.
I'd suggest to anyone to do as "legendarybc" suggested, but then do restart your computer. If that doesn't work, then add the 10.7 scanner driver from:

  • Lion image capture not finding canon 8800f

    Hi
I am running Lion on my IMac.  I connected a Cannon 8800F scanner.  Image capture does not show the device.   Went to the Cannon site and installed what they said was for 10.7  No luck.
This is a really good scanner and nothing wrong with it.  Any ideas how to get it working?  It worked under Snow Lep/
    Thank you
    Larry

Found the solution.  For Lion, you need to install the Canon driver for Snow Lep 10.6 then reboot.  Once that is complete, the scanner will show up as a valid device.

  • HT201302 Old iphone 3g has photos on it. When I plug into my imac iphoto and image capture only bring up photos in the camera roll. There were more photos on albums and photo library on the iphone that arent showing up in iphoto and icapture.

My old iphone 3g has photos on it. When I try to get the photos off and onto my imac iphoto and image capture only bring up the camera roll. I have more pictures that arent on the camera roll there are albums and a photo library full of pictures that I want off of this dang phone. I have tried everything and I cant email them to myself because the service has been cut off of the phone. They are stuck on the phone there is there any way to get them off? Am I missing something.

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  It simply mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.
Again, the photo sync is one way.
Did you fail to maintain a backup copy of your old computer?
Not good.  You can e-mail the photos from your iphone.  You do not need to have phoe service for this.  The iphone uses wi-fi.  The photos will never be of the original quality, as they are reduced when synced to iphone.

After upgrading to Lion, Image Capture does not work, even though it is intel software.  Gives error 9931.  What gives?

Ouch, if it is indeed damaged, then sadly you need to restore the whole danged huge OS!
Didn't used to be this way before Lion/10.7.
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • How do I get Image Capture to recognize a printer on my network?

I just got a new MacBook Pro. I have my epson printer on my network. How do I get Image Capture to recognize that I have a printer. Nothing comes up on devices. I'm sort of stabbing in the dark at network settings and I downloaded the latest Epson driver. Nothing seems to work. Can anyone help? Suz

In Image Capture, a network printer / scanner will appear under "Shared". If it is hidden, a number will appear adjacent to it, representing the number of hidden devices.
If it still does not appear, try resetting the printing system: Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
After you do that you will need to add the device again according to the instructions here:
OS X Mavericks: Set up a printer
Follow the instructions below Add a network printer

    Might be corrupted preferences (.plist)
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.image_Capture.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.image_Capture.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac and your scanner and try scanning an image.

trying to down load mountain lion but will only get to 53.25mb

    See if this applies:
Apple has tightened its requirements for this OS upgrade, and some older Macs— even ones that qualified for Lion — won't make the cut for Mountain Lion.
The general system requirements are straightforward:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
Apple also lists which models WILL support Mountain Lion:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Hope this helps

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

    See:
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
You need the 8.2 version of the ACR module, and PS10 is too old to be updated.
So, you can choose between 3 solutions:
    - update PSE to PSE12
    - use the Canon software to convert the raw files to the tiff format which PSE10 can handle
    - download and install the free Adobe DNGconverter which is able to convert a whole folder of CR2 raw files to the Adobe DNG raw format which PSE10 can handle.
The last two solutions are free.

  • Mountain Lion can't find my canon powershot ELPH

Hi folks, I'm hopeing for a little help.  I upgraded my Mac 21.5 to Mountain Lion from the app store. Now my Canon ELPH 310 cant download pics.
I get the message "camera not found" although when I view the USB info it shows up. Apple support said a driver was needed from Canon. Canon had me download ImageBrowser and CameraWindow. Still no luck. I would appreciate any ideas. Do I have to go back to Snow Leopard?

Have you tried to simply use the camera card/insert into card reader?
And, have you made sure that Finder Preferences is set to show external devices on the desktop?
Also, what are your settings in both iPhoto and Image Capture for external devices/download pics?
You don't need a "driver". You should simply see the icon of the card on your desktop and can open it, or you should set up an application (iPhoto, Image Capture, or, if you want - but not necessary - Canon Software) to automatically download/import your pics.
I've been using various Canons for years; my preference is to simply show the card icon on the desktop where I can check the pictures and decide where/what to do with them.

  • How do I get Image Capture to recognize my iPhone so I can transfer videos to my MacBook ?

I cannot delete my old email from my Apple Discussions Profile.
I have an iPhone that is not letting me transfer videos I take with the Camera App onto my MacBook Air.
My photos transfer fine but the videos don't transfer at all.
I have tried Image Capture too and this does not even recognize my iPhone.
I have tried different USB cables and still no luck.
Even though one workaround is emailing videos to myself from my iPhone
this is not ideal because it compresses the files - thus losing video quality - and
it is super time-consuming because I have long videos that I need to break up into smaller clips
in my emails and I have almost 200 videos in all.
I think I have iPhone 5 but I don't know how to confirm.
    Please advise.
    Many thanks
