In my Safari program, the back arrow has disappeared, and the box where I enter sites I want to access has also disappeared so I can only access sites that are bookmarked. What am I doing wrong?

This seems to have happened after I experimented with DuckDuckGo. How do I get back.

You could try to go to View > Customize Toolbar within Safari and then drag and drop the browsing arrows and the address bar back into the Toolbar. Or you could try View > Show Toolbar if your Toolbar has been hidden.

You would need to pair the Apple Remote with the receiver. So I would use the generic Mac/PC receiver and follow these instructions:

If that doesn't work then check in System Profiler to see if the IR receiver has been recognized by the PowerBook's hardware. You may require the install of drivers for this device to be recognized.

I use message and all other messages are non-sms. When I try to message these two accounts, they automatically use sms, everything I do is the same. The non-sms messages go through just fine (including pictures). The sms messages (no pictures) are always rejected; they have never gone through. They have never been able to send messages to me either (although they can send to others). I have a Verizon cellular data plan.

Please try the following steps,
1) Visit the My Apple ID website at:
http://appleid.apple.com
2) If the site is not displayed in your preferred language, click the Change Language link in the upper-right corner, type the name of your language in the field that appears, then click the Save button.
3) Click the "Manage your account" link.
4) Type your iTunes Store account name (which is your Apple ID) in the Apple ID field, type your password in the password field, then click the Sign In button.
5) Click "Addresses" in the column on the left. If you have multiple shipping addresses, remove any out-of-date or duplicate addresses by clicking Delete. Also, make sure the state or province field is filled out correctly for each address. To edit an address, click Edit. Edit all of your shipping addresses and make sure the appropriate state is selected in the State drop-down menus.
6) Now click "Phone Numbers" on the left. The area codes should be in the area code fields and the phone numbers should be in the phone number fields. If an area code is missing, or if it is in a phone number field, your account information may not save properly.
7) Make any other necessary corrections, then click the Save Changes button.
8) Click Log out in the upper-right corner.
When you make your next purchase on the iTunes Store, you will be asked to review your billing information. At this point, you can change your information or simply click Done at the bottom of the screen to proceed. Once you click Done, you should be able to purchase on the iTunes Store using your store credit.

First, if you are not aware, you need to know that Apple does not officially support Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme.
That may be part of the problem here, so if you want to continue to try this, you need to understand that there are no guarantees of success.
Some users do seem to be able to make this work, but most have some problems and some....like me....have nothing but problems when they try this.
If you want to continue to try this, the first thing to verify is that the drive is formatted specifically in Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Have you verified that the drive is formatted correctly by connecting it directly to your Mac and using Disk Utility to check?
Some drives that are advertised as being "compatible for Mac" are not formatted correctly in Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Time Machine has no chance of success unless the drive is first formatted correctly.
I would also ask that you consider leaving the drive connected to your Mac for Time Machine backups. That will be supported, and is a far more reliable way to keep backups if your data is important to you.
Next, we need to know what operating system you are running on your Mac. If you do not know, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen and then click About This Mac. Post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.

Can't have multiple modal dialogs? What am I doing wrong?

The following applet is a VERY stripped down version of what I am writing. I have an applet which creates modal dialog in which a user will enter data, then if the user tries to close without saving, I pop up another modal dialog to ask the user to save. Everything is fine that far, then, when the user dismisses that dialog, for example (with Cancel) or pressing the X, things look fine, it goes back to the first modal dialog, but that dialog is no longer modal! I can access the underlying applet. Here is a VERY stripped down version. What am I doing wrong? Help! Thanks!

Good call dchsw, I tried 1.4.1_01 jre and it worked. If you run it with 1.3.0_01 jre you will see my problem. The problem for us is, we are stuck with 1.3.0_01 for our next release at least, due to Sun's decision to change event handling for java 1.4 jre and not make it backward compatible. I might have to hack my way around this one. Any other suggestions?

The pages in sections stick together because the text flows between the pages.
Insert a section break to isolate pages between sections.
Now this all works in Pages '09, unfortunately Pages 5 doesn't let you.

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

I can't load my music!! What am I doing wrong?

My computer crashed a few weeks ago, and I just got it working again. When I installed iTunes 8, I got everything that it came with (library, iTunes store, that Genius stuff). But when I plugged in my iPod Nano to put my music on iTunes, it won't show up in my library. The library is just blank.
All of my music is on my iPod, but I can't seem to put it on my iTunes library.
What am I doing wrong???
