Incoming Mac Mail Messages Arrive, then Dissappear

Have had my iMac for about a month, month and a half. Email has been working fine. Starting yesterday, when I open Mail, I see the new messages coming in at the bottom. By that I mean, the number of messages arriving. I also happens to show 0KB/sec. Just now seeing 33 messages arriving, but then they are nowhere to be found in my inbox. The email account is my ISP account cox.net. Like I said, never a problem until yesterday. Went out to another yahoo account and sent myself an email and my number of messages increased to 34 incoming messages when I hit "Get Mail". But, the messages just keep disappearing.
Where are they going and how do I get them back and fix this? Please help. Thanks in advance.

HI,
Not sure if this applies but...
*If messages disappeared from mailboxes*
If all the messages in a mailbox have disappeared and are missing, it’s possible the mailbox contains too many messages and attachments. This can happen with mailboxes whose sizes range from hundreds of megabytes to more. Although you can’t see your messages, they’re still in the mailbox.
Here are ways to redisplay the messages:
If you have multiple email accounts, view the inbox for each account separately, instead of viewing the Inbox mailbox. The Inbox mailbox displays messages from all of your accounts, and all of those messages together might be too large to be displayed.
Quit Mail and then reopen it.
To avoid this problem again, keep your mailboxes from getting too large.
Also, make sure your account is "online" .. To take just one of your accounts online, choose Mailbox > Online Status > Take account name Online.

My emails are being pushed to my 3g iPhone but they almost immediately disappear from my Inbox. Any solutions?

I had same problem. Was the settings in the email account online, needs to be set to leave a copy on the server. If not, once you download them to your computer, they won't be there for Iphone to get, so it syncs to empty box and empties same from your phone.

  • Hard Drive Crash and Mac Mail Messages

The 160GB hard drive in my 17" Mac Book Pro blew up. I was able to get all my files off before it would not reboot in any mode...except for my mac mail messages, which I forgot about until it was too late. I have logged on to the web and can see them there, but my question is, when I get my laptop back with a new blank hard drive and set up mac mail again, will it pull in my messages from the mac server, or will the server delete them (and then I lose them forever) when it doesn't see them on my laptop?

Setting up an email client with a new computer won't erase the copies of the email on the web; they are only deleted if you explicitly delete them, or if the client is set to use the POP protocol and the option to delete them on the server when they are transferred to the computer is chosen. If the IMAP protocol is used, the messages are not automatically downloaded to the computer upon receipt, and are available only on the web unless saved manually.

  • Embedding a hyperlink in a New Mac Mail message

I know about Edit -> Add Hyperlink. But I'm astonished that dragging a favicon from a browser into the text area of a new message just drags the "dead" text --- furthermore, under certain circumstances, if you select the dead text, then Edit Hyperlink, an old, stale, inappropriate URL may be still be in the Edit Hyperlink box.
This is a recipe for creating misleading/phishing links.
Am I missing something? Is there an easier way to get a live URL into a Mac Mail message?
    Thanks .. cb

Gentoo, that does the trick nicely! A simple double click of the folder name does indeed bring up the text box for editing.
A big thank you for pointing that out, and i am sure there will be others wondering the same thing, so hopefully they will see your answer.
Sorry for delay in answering, i had not subscribed to the thread thinking that there was no way of doing it, so another thanks for sending me the pm letting me know you had answered.
    Cheers,
    Steve.

  • Does anyone know how to highlight text within a mac mail message?

Does anyone know how to highlight text within a mac mail message?

I can't find that option in Mac Mail's editor.  You can use a more feature rich editor like OpenOffice or Pages to create your message.  Then copy/paste into mail.

  • Quota limit reached?  Delete Mac Mail messages?

I'm a bit confused (make that VERY confused).  I keep getting this "Quota limit reached" message.   Apple iPhone rep tells me that I have to start deleting my 25,000 Mac Mail messages.
Thing is, I don't have time to delete even half those messages.  If I have to, I will but is there another easier way?
I don't really need Mac Mail on my iPhone anyway.  I'd like to just delete it all together buy iPhone Apple rep said that I can't because it's synced?
    I don't get it.
Please help!  Whatever answer anyone gives me, please don't make it too "techie" --as in assuming I know more than I do.
BTW, I am still using 10.5.8 on m Mac Book Pro.  Making an appointment today with Apple store to get this done.  Can't do it myself as I have some tech glitches that may cause problems if I try to do do this--so I need professonal "Genius Bar" help.
Just thought I would add that in case it's relevant to this process.

Go to iCloud.com and click on mail. Then you can delete multiple messages quickly. All you have to do is hold your shift key and your up or down arrow keys to select multiple messages. If you have important ones, you can select up to those ones and delete the junk.
Or, you can buy iCloud storage. Which is 20 bucks for 10 gigabytes.

  • HT201342 Where is the from field in a Mac mail message?

    From an Apple information document:
You can send email from your @icloud.com address by following these instructions:
Begin composing a new email on the device of your choice.
Select the From: field in your message.
Choose your @icloud.com address from the list of addresses.
Compose your message and send it.
On number 2, where is the from field in a Mac mail message?

Is there any way to move the default location of the event editing panel from the upper left corner of the display to somewhere in the middle?
Try to scroll while the editing panel is open

  • Mail messages appear then disappear

    Hi All,
We have been having so strange issues lately with emails coming into users mail clients and then dissaperaing right away. We are running OS X 10.6.8 server as our primary mail and authentication server, as well as iChat and iCal. the server it self is running on a Mac Pro with 64GB of RAM, 2 Xeons, and 2TB Raid 1 on a raid card w/ cache enabled. This has just started recently and is now starting to affect business, so I need to find a solution to this. I have check in our mail logs and I am only seeing the emails that have been acctually delivered to the users, no record of the emails that have been disappering, the logging level is set at Information and all AV and spam filtering is disabled.I have also disabled Junk Mail Filtering on the client side which helped for a bit but dosen't any more. Gmail can only access from a server that supports POP3 -- .Mac does this, but conceptually it is counter to the philosophy of an IMAP account, which with Mail you have set your .Mac account to be.
In setting up Gmail to access an account (remember it does so as POP) you have a selection of whether to leave messages on the server or not, and furthermore the instructions for such Gmail access talk about the possibility of too many messages on the server. But that concept is based upon the server being a POP server. Yours is set up to operate as an IMAP account, and in an IMAP account all messages and indeed the entire Inbox resides on the server. If a message were removed from the server it would be removed from the Inbox you are expecting to view in Mail on your Mac. The symptom would be just like a "winking out", as Mail remembers the message was once there, but suddenly it is gone!
Access via Gmail is just like accessing from another email client or device.
More info, and confirmation of what you find, please.

  • E-mail messages appear, then disappear.

I've been having e-mail messages show up in the inbox then disappear. It's been happening for months. I use a lot of rules and folders.
    Steps I've taken:
    – Rebuilt every mailbox in Mail
    – Today I deleted the Envelope Index but the problem keeps happening
    – Contacted SpamSieve to see if it might be their add-on (they don't think it is)
I archive all of my e-mail at Gmail so I can see that every day a few messages get through but don't turn up in my inbox. Any suggestions? Are there some more things like the Envelope Index that I can trash and hope for a fix?

  • Incoming MAC Mail Bouncing

Half of my incoming emails are bouncing.
When I send an email through my MAC account to his MAC account, it bounces back at me.
I've had MAC mail for 3 years and have been experiencing this since May.
    What is going on?

    A 452 error typically means:
"SMTP Error 452 : The ISP server’s disk system has run
out of storage space, so the action had to be cancelled.
Unless you are with an ISP which is so slack that they
have not implemented Disk Full Alerts, this error usually
indicates that your ISP’s mail server is overloaded from too
many messages. This can happen even to the best ISPs
when, for example, there have been problems and none of
the ISP’s customers could send mail; as soon as the
problems are fixed there is almost always a situation where
thousands of users and organizations are trying to send
mail all at the same time, and those numbers can
occasionally result in the ISP’s mail servers’ hard disks
temporarily filling up, with SMTP Error 452 being the result.
The next attempt to send by your server may prove
    successful."
So if this continues, first check the status of .Mac or MobileMe on the Apple web site, and if there's no problem listed, or there's no resolution listed for this recent problem, call them and ask about it and when it's going to be resolved or how they can resolve it immediately.

  • Moving mac mail messages to gmail through imap

    Newbie question so be gentle
Looking to move my Mac Mail to Gmail through IMAP - this is to ensure I can access my mail from any machine whilst I'm on the road working plus if my hard drive dies (which it did a year ago) I won't loose any messages/folders.
Currently have a couple of email addresses coming straight into Mac Mail and have numerous folders set up. Want to know if I link the Mac Mail to my Gmail account using IMAP will all my messages plus folders simply sync online with no issues? Will the folders remain intact (I understand Gmail uses 'labels' as folders)?
Looking forward to hearing from you and thanks in advance for your time.
    Peace
    DK

you can configure your gmail account as an imap account in mac mail. Then you can drag and drop either way between the 2 accounts. Once you have done that when you login to gmail webmail the mail will have been added there.
If you want to configure gmail webmail to recieve mail from a different mail account other than your gmail then you need to goto the gmail website for answers as this is not related to apple.

  • Cannot open Mac Mail messages.

    Hi
I have a G5 pre Intel OS 10.5.8, with Mac Mail v 3.6. I cannot open my messages. I still can receive and send messages. I checked with my ISP and my settings are correct. Mac Mail's Connection Doctor says connection with the internet and my ISP are good.
I believe I will have to reinstall Mac Mail. I first want to make sure my messages are saved.
Does anyone know where on my computer the messages reside?
Where can I get just Mac Mail to reinstall or must I reinstall the OS?
    Thanks

What exactly happens when you try to open them?
    On Mail...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may not exist.
    Get Pacifist...
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
then extract/install what you need from your Install Disc.

  • Mail sees the number of .Mac mail messages, but not anything else about 'em

    Pretty straight forward problem.
Mail says I have .Mac mail on all of my .Mac accounts yet when I click on them in Mail they cannot be seen in the list.
ALL SOFTWARE IS UP TO DATE/LATEST AVAILABLE.
Do ports have to be opened up for Mail to work? If so, how do people like me with five computers in their house each use Mail?
In the left pane under the INBOX, I see all of my accounts.
For one/my/main .Mac account, I hear the chime of NEW MAIL and see the red circle/dot with the number of new mails.
When I click on the .Mac account, the right/upper pane shows nothing - it is blank.
All of my other myriad of pop/imap accounts defined in the mail.app work perfectly well.
    .Mac mail accounts.
    email accounts from .Mac.
Family pack gives a person five accounts. I mentioned that so that it the fact it happens with all the subaccounts and all my computers would eliminate any individual account and any individual computer from being significantly different than any other typical setup and thus eliminate them from being the focus on any suggested fix.

I'd suggest creating a new test user account from the system preferences. Log in, open Mail, enter your .Mac settings and see how it goes.
Alternatively, you can try to reset Mail.app by renaming (for backup purposes) the following files: (This will affect your other mailboxes as well!)
    Preferences: your_name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    & Mail folder: your_name/Library/Mail/
Assuming a new Mail setup actually works, post back in case you need help on importing your old POP3 messages.
If not, I've no idea what to do... Your firewall should not affect .Mac behavior. (I got to admit, I don't particularly like Mail.app's buggy IMAP implementation.)
    Good luck!

  • Export Mac Mail message list as XLS, Numbers, CSV file?

I'm wondering if there's a practical way to export the message list in my Mac Mail inbox as a spreadsheet (e.g., XLS, Numbers, CSV &c)? I figured there must be a file of this sort in my mail library somewhere, but wasn't sure where to look. Any ideas, shortcuts, quick & easy answers? Thanks!

export bookmarks to a file, open this file in safari and enter command+I. You can of course simply attach the file to your message.

  • Mac Mail Message Count (Not New Messages) Missing

I do not know if I did something yesterday, but today I do not see the count of messages in a mailbox in the header of the application when I select a mailbox.
Did I click something somewhere and now I can't find it?
    TIA

    William - indeed and thanks.
I come from a Windows history that goes back to the late 1980's and used to be quite familiar with rebooting my laptop 7-30 times a week. When I moved to the Apple ecosystem, I forgot completely about having to reboot periodically - something I have discovered is necessary with Mac's, too. It is especially necessary with applications that get a lot of use - I cycle through a couple thousand e-mail messages every week.
I restarted Mail because it started acting up in other ways, too. Voila! Problem solved.
