Incorporating Translation Review Comments into Source File

Hello,
I have been asked by my French colleagues to have three of my
help files translated from English to French. My company has had a
couple of help files translated in the past, so we have a procedure
in place, but we always stumble over one part: when the translation
agency sends the first-pass translations to our foreign offices (in
this case, France), what is the best way to incorporate the French
reviewer's corrections back into the RH project without introducing
a lot of problems?
In the past, the agency used a program called EditLet (?),
which allowed the reviewer to log onto a web interface, make
corrections, and send the topics back to the translation agency.
This worked fine, but it was a big effort for the translation
agency to host this program, and apparently it corrupted a lot of
the background HTML coding, which the tech managers at the
translation agency had to manually fix.
We also explored exporting the RH project as a Word file and
sending this to the reviewer. The reviewer could edit the file
using Track Changes, and send it back. But there is no easy way to
bring this corrected Word file back into RH without overwriting
existing content (we just want to import the corrections). We could
also manually copy and paste from the corrected Word file in the RH
project, but that is time-consuming.
Any ideas?

Hi John. TBH I don't believe there is a real cast iron
solution to your problem. All the methods you quote work and are
used by others but each represents its own problems. I'm not
familiar with EditLet. Are there other tools the translation
company could host? The problem here is the still the propriety
code of RH. Whatever app you use it likely to generate different
code to RH which can cause problems when imported. Using Word to
review (Ugg!) also works but you can tell from my exclamation what
I think of that
. Is it possible to get the users to add comments to
the HTML code itself using comment tags? If may not be user
friendly but they could add their comments without upsetting the
delicate RH HTML. Just a thought.

Is there any way available to enable comments into pdf files through java. I have a Adobe Reader 9 and also I want put some comments into pdf file, but the reader is not allowed to place a comment into pdf file before enabling the Comments into pdf. The end user who uses the web application has Acrobat installed in their mahcine needs it only for the purpose of enabling comments in pdf. If this task of enabling comments in pdf is done through my application there is no need for acrobat in such user's machine which was requested as a cost cuttnig measure.
For this purpose, i need to know about how to enable comments in pdf through java api.
I have used itext java api for other pdf related manipulation in java. But it does not have feature as per the requirement posted above. Can any body suggest relevant java api to achieve the task requested?

Ksld not breaking into source file

Hi guys,
I installed ksld and started debugging my driver using a tip connection... all works fine.. i inserted a breakpoint on one of my functions in the driver.. and in the tip console once i have reached the breakpoint.. i use ::remote to enter remote mode and start the ksld with all those options on the host and it get connected to the ksld agent.. but the host is not able to show the source code of my driver... ie it always breaks into the asm dump of the driver code.. how do i switch to source display.. but at the same time i am able to edit the source file and all.. ie by using edit command.. but no idea why the asm code is dumped while a break point is reached..
any idea how we can switch to source level code for debugging..

The simple answer here is that machine specific files do not need to be checked in. This includes .PSS and .CPD files. The .HHP and .XPJ files are not machine specific, they are project specific and therefore must be checked in. The confusion over the HHP file may come down to whether CHM output is being produced. If you are not, you could safely say that this file need not be source controlled. However it doesn't cost anything to include it under source control so why make life more difficult by excluding it.

Javascript and ehlp introduced into source files

RH "stops responding" and closes-whenever it encounters one--making minor changes on a few topics has forced me to relaunch RH 30 times or more yesterday.
Projects were generated with different versions of RH (5, 6,7,8) and I've been updating them (I apply a common .css by selecting all the topics in the topic list to each project by filey . Some were taken out of the RH versioning server. I've been working several inherited projects that were hastily converted into single source RH HTML 8 projects. The conversion, I think, is introducing certain kinds of javascript? Until today, I thought the previous contributors were saving the published files because of messed up javascript.

(putting the above script into this forum message causes java another java function ($A(arguments))) to display in a tooltip for the cursor as I type)
The scripting is not in all topics; certain editing actions cause RoboHelp HTML to shut down--perhaps it is editing a topic that LINKS to such a topic; can't say for sure. I have had a dickens of a time cleaning the gunk out of files: I do know that some topics have kadov tags nested in HTML tags, nested inside css styles (i.e. 3 ways to indicate <b> bold.
I've put the css file through http://www.w3schools.com/site/site_validate.asp and when I run the validated css in the RH project, some styles get redefined. Any ideas on how to clean up the 990 topics in the project I'm working on this week?
I had the same kinds of issues on a different project last week. What is an effective way to clean the scripts out of topic files? The example above is broken into 2 to 6 lines, just before the <body> tag. Additonal js may occur in the footer, or in a numbered procedure. Not all topics, not all numered procedures. There are 3 kinds of < js start> < js end > tags in various files. I've been using InfoRapid Search and Replace (it can search across line breaks) but failed to spot EVERY script.

The CDATA means unparsed data. This can be used for javascript, but you can use it for any data you need. If a chunk of data uses characters that are defined in the XHTML file system, a program may not be able to read the file. With the CDATA command, the program will correctly read the string.
If what you posted is the text added, RH doesn't add javascript, it adds css. In this case the colour of visited hyperlinks and the colour of unvisited hyperlinks.
You say you validated your css using the W3C validator. Is it validated, or are there errors? Also, the validator only checks your css, it doesn't change it. I don't see what RH would do to a css you've only validated. Can you be more specific?
Have you run "Update DHTML Effects in Topics"? This feature may solve a lot of your problems. Just backup your projects first.
For find and replace, try using dnGrep (http://code.google.com/p/dngrep/). It supports regular expressions and multi line search and it saved me a couple of times. I don't know the tool you're using, so I don't know why it can't find the text. Backup your projects before using this tool.

Thanks for all the information provided by i missed mentioning one point, actually thse queries are to be automatically schedule. the requirement is like this i need to bring to extract data and build queries export it as a .CSV file these queries are not end user queries so they have to be automatically scheduled and will be picked up by an interface so they do some mapping with the .CSV file we provide.
So we decided to do it in Reporting Agent in Excel format and automate it and send the file to a specific location from where the Interface team can pick it. which doesnt need an user to run the query.
so can someone tell me if i can automate a query and as well as have the query in .CSV format?? I hope i was clear

MiniTOC does not appear in translated source file

I added a miniTOC placeholder to three of my topics. This is the first time I am using the placeholder.
The English WebHelp project was sent for translation to French Canadian. I received the source project and noticed that the placeholder does not appear in the source file. Therefore, when I compile the output the miniTOC does not appear.
The translation company is using the latest version of RoboHelp, but I am not sure what tool they use to translate.
I have no clue how to resolve this issue. Sample code and screens are listed below.

The Shuffle can only be linked to one computer at a time if you want to use the Shuffle on a different computer you must allow Itunes to restore the Shuffle and than you can use it. Sorry there's really no good way around this besides going third party.

How To Divide Source File Into Smaller Files Without Exporting?

Hello Everyone,
I'm a beginner with PPro CS4 and to video editing in general. I've done a lot of Googling and searching of these forums to get an answer to this question, but I haven't found a clear answer. Here's my problem:
I have many hours of HDV footage shot over the past few years with a Canon HV30. This footage is on dozens of DV tape cassettes. I want to capture most of it to disk.
When I capture a tape to disk, I get a single large mpeg4 file. (PPro captures all HDV footage to mpeg4.) "Scene select" doesn't work with the HV30, so my only other way to make smaller capture files would be to set In/Out points with batch capture. But this would mean hours of fast-forwarding and reversing with the VCR-like controls on the camera to review all the tapes and set the points. I thought it might be FASTER to simply capture an entire tape in one operation, THEN review the captured tape within PPro (it's much faster using the scrubber), and dividing that file into smaller files within PPro, thereby avoiding all the mechanical fast-forwarding and rewinding on the camera itself.
But the only way I can find to do this seems to involve EXPORTING clips. Am I wrong to think that exporting a clip to a new file involves a degradation of the original mpeg4 source file? Or will there be no loss to the quality if I simply export to mpeg4 format?
It seems there should be an easy way to simply divide the original capture into smaller source files for later editing, without putting the footage through another generation of processing (exporting), which might entail some loss of quality. Or am I wrong about this?

HDV footage is mpeg2 (whats in a number ). CS4 does not do scene detect you need to use HDV split for that.

You can run your already captured files through hdv split and it will chop the file into clips and off you go.

How to get the source file name and transform into database

If you can write the filename to a text file, you may do the following:
(1) create a text-file containing the name of your source-file.
(2) create an external table using that text-file as input.
Now, you can SELECT the filename from the external table.
Of course, you need a way to : create the flat file, handle the flat file, etc.

I want to get the Source file name Info into Target message of one of the fields.

Requirement :
1) I am able to get the Target file name as same as the source file name when i check the ASMA in Sender & Receiver Adapter , with out any UDF...............this thing is OK
2) I took One field extra in the target structure Like "FileName" & I mapped it Like
Constant(" " )--UDF-----FileName
I Checked the Option ASMA in Both Sender & Receiver Adapters
Here iam getting the Target File name as same as Source file name + Source File name Info in the Target Field " FileName".
I Dont want to get the Target File name as same as Source file name. I want like Out.xml as Target file name.
If i de-select the Option ASMA in Adapters means it is showing " null" value in the target field "FileName".
Please Provide the Solution for this

What files should not be checked into Source Control?

Good afternoon.
Running RoboHelp 11, integrated with Team Foundation Server and Visual Studio 2010.
When my two colleagues recently "got" the latest project files from Source Control, they also got items that had been removed or deleted. For example, I had removed all conditional build tags from my project, but their version still included the build tags. Eventually, thanks in part to an old post from Peter Grainge, we realized that the PSS in Source Control contained a lot of that old information. We deleted the PSS and stopped checking it into Source Control. Problem solved. No more conditional build tags or unwanted Single Source Layouts, etc. (I think the PSS got checked in by our Release Engineer when he was trying to solve some other problem. Two years ago it was not being checked in.)
I vaguely remember reading something somewhere once upon a time about not checking certain RoboHelp project management files into Source Control. So far I've not found any such information in the RoboHelp Help or online.
Does anyone know where I can find a list of RoboHelp HTML project management files, such as the PSS file, that should never be checked into Source Control?

Flash Source Files into Captivate 5

Hello All,
Need some help. I had some files developed by a client whom will remain nameless, and I promise not to mention anything about them because your experience may be better than mine. I have flash source files that won't play nice on this new LMS. I would like to take the source files and import the files into Captivate, so I can use Captivate to publish the course originally derived in Flash. Can someone explain to me how I can make this happen and maintain the functionality that I have in the swf files.

So you have a course developed entirely in Flash and you have the FLA source files and want to import these into Captivate? If that is what you mean then unfortunately that is not possible.
Although Flash and Captivate are "similar" you cannot import a whole FLA file into the Captivate authoring environment like that. You can import animations, widgets and relatively complex Flash stuff into Captivate by inserting this as an animation into a Captivate slide but not a complete course.
If you want to use Captivate for your course then unfortunately you will need to create the course in Captivate from the start.

there is a tool called javacc which generates parsing code. You can also google for "javacc grammar repository" to find a java grammer you can pick up and start using

There are not any EBS Adapters for FDM.
If you are just importing a source file from EBS, you would need to setup an import format to parse the source file in FDm and then assign the import format to the location that will be used to load the target system and run the import process.
If you are looking to pull directly from EBS, you would need to use ERP Integrator (ERPi) to connect to oracle EBS and then use the ERPI adpater in FDM to pull the data from ERPI into FDM.
Can you be specific on what you are looking to do?

"Importing" table-comments into an existinting server model with a text file

i have redesigned a database with the "capture design" tool - server model and
server model diagramm is ok.
Now, i want add many table- and column-comments into the server model.
I wrote these comments with the "comment on table..." and "comment on column...."-command (in uppercase mode)
into a scriptfile and tried, to "import" this scriptfile with the "capture design" ==> "server model" ==> "DDL-Files".
The designer said "Processing Complete: 0 error(s), 0 warning(s)". But if i look in the server model or in the
server model diagramm....nothing happened.
Has anyone an idea?

Aha, we're onto something here + I've just been reading the thread with +75 replies that's currently on the front screen which seems to be related though not entirely.
OK the original filename was Renting Checklist.txt with a space, I deleted the space and renamed it Renting_Checklist.txt, made it the only attachment to a new email and sent from my ISP email account to my gmail account and it went fine.
So that's why then but it's strange that it went when it was attached on an email with another attachment (whose filename didn't contain spaces or special characters). Does this sound tied in with the similar problems that others are having? It ought to be worthy of a fix, I can't tell when this problem started because I haven't had cause to send an email with a text attachment that had spaces in the filename.
