  • Password Policy creation error: Incorrect Domain Name

    Hi folks,
I'm getting rather strange error ("Incorrect Domain Name") while trying to create a new Password Policy in OAM to enable user account lockout. I provide a name for the Password Policy, and use simple Policy Domain I've created as "Password Policy Domain", plus some basic values. I realize it's something simple, yet I cannot figure why the domain name would be incorrect.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you
    Roman

In the password policy domain field you have to enter the base dn for the user to which this policy will be applied. something like ou=users,dc=company,dc=com
Check the directory profile of the user store.

  • Domain Name settings in Solaris - Newbie question

    Sorry for a newbie question!
I am already pointing a domain name to web hosting for email account. Now, I need an application server to run ERP software and Oracle, and installing Solaris and Oracle need a domain name.
If I point my domain name to the server, how do I receive emails from web hosting???
Install an email server to the application server instead? What can I do if I want the same domain name?

Your questions are completely off-topic for the forum.
These SunOS forums are for questions on <i>"how do I install my OS"</i>
You particular question is in the <i>"how can I install Solaris while using the CD drive"</i> forum.
So, if you had a question on how to edit the /etc/inet/hosts file to establish a FQDN on the computer, then it might be appropriate for the forum.
Unfortunately, I don't have a clue on where to redirect you, except perhaps to the Sun Java Enterprise System suite of applications?

Setting up a mailserver and making sure it doesn't suddenly turn into a spambox is not something you do with the use of a few commands. I suggest to dive into the Solaris admin guide on docs.sun.com and read up on e-mail and network services.
If that is asking too much of your time you'll be better off getting your ISP to handle all this for you.

  • Switching from Muse Business Catalyst site to register domain name.

My domain name is registered through web.com
I recently created my site through Muse and previewed it using Business Catalyst. I would like to fully publish it using Adobe as my hosting and the registered domain name I purchased through web.com
How do I do this? Where do I find the DNS info they are asking for?

    Hi
    try
    http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/using/change-site-domain.html
it shows the domain names in Step 2 point 3. I recently went through the same process and my site started working within 5 mins. I might have been lucky!

  • Newbie question - Changing domain name from .local

Hi, I'm trying to change my domain name from dns.local to dns.domain.edu. Can someone help me with this. The server was already set up and some places it has:
dns.local and other places is has dns.domain.edu. when i type in dns.domain.edu into a browser it works. when i type in dns.local i get an error.

Leave the .local alone. That is your Bonjour access name.
Bonjour is also known as ZeroConf in the Unix world, and is how your Mac discovers other Macs, Mac file servers, and Mac print servers on your local network (also know as a subnet).
You can add search domains via
    System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> DNS -> Search Domains -> [+]
A search domain is where you can enter 'fred' and the name lookup will look for fred.local, fred.domain.edu assuming both .local and .domain.edu are provied as search domains.
As to other people finding your via dns.domain.edu, that is up to the domain.edu name servers, and their administrators. Your Mac does not establish that, unless they have a dynamic DNS updating service.
To have a DNS name in a domain, your DNS name must be registered with the domain server that owns that domain name. That is not automatic.
In this case if you have not already been assigned dns.domain.edu by the domain name and fixed IP address by the owners of domain.edu, then you cannot just take the name dns.domain.edu. If you have been assigned the name dns.domain.edu and a fixed IP address, then you would set that up in System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> TCP/IP
At best, if domain.edu allows the DHCP servers on campus to both assign an IP address and also create a dynamic DNS name in domain.edu, then you might get a name like
    college-name-192-168-27-232-subnet-12-dorm-name.domain.edu
A very creative and memorable name
If you cannot get the domain.edu administrators to give you dns.domain.edu as an addressable name, you can go ahead and get a dynamic DNS name from a service such as No-IP.com or DynDNS.org (free ones are available), and just run one of their dynamic DNS updating utilities on your Mac so that when your DHCP IP address changes, your dynamic DNS name is updated with the new IP address as well.
A dynamic DNS name service such as the 2 I just mentioned, will give you a fixed name such as fred.dynamicDNSnameService.net that will not change, and when you run an updating utility on your Mac, the dynamic DNS service will keep the fred.dynamicDNSnameService.net updated with the every changing DHCP assigned IP address.

  • Domain name is blank on laserjet 200 color MFP m276

I received this item today but I'm unable to add it to my home network.I've had no trouble previously with an HP 2610, 1102W, and 7520.
On this network, a verizon DSL modem feeds  a Linux firewall, which provides routing/DNS/etc. to the computers on the net via several switches and a wireless access point.  Everything has a name in the form of "nicename.mynetworkname.net" and a static IPv4 address, and the firewall enforces the rules.
I've tried to tell the control panel on the new laserjet everything I can manage to feed it.
The new laserjet is connected to one of the switches by an ethernet cable.  The cable connectors on the printer and the main switch show orange lights, indicating no valid ethernet connection.  A printout of the Network Summary shows
    Status (wired) =Ready
IPv4Address =192.168.nnn.mmm    (the value I gave it manually)  and an appropriate subnet mask and default gateway value.
    Network Identification shows
Host Name =NPIDD2A25  (the value assigned by HP)
but the Domain Name is blank.  I could not find a way to change it to mynetworkname.net.
So the printer apparently thinks it's not on the net.  And computers on the net can discover the printer but can't use it.
This setup has worked fine for previous printersthat worked by ethernet.  I don't see what I'm doing wrong here.
    Tips?

  • Business catalyst transfer hosting / domain name issues

    Hello,
Hopefully someone can help with this. There is no information to be found anywhere about this anywhere. So here goes..
-Basically I have a an old site using my  .com hosted away from CC. I also have a newer version of my website hosted at CC and using the same .com BUT using the 'Business catalyst" tag"
-I now want to shut down my old site hosted away from CC-to free up the .com so I can use me new website WITHOUT having to use the Business catalyst tag (While remain being hosted on CC)
This is what my other host has asked me to get - (and that Adobe has no information on)
    My old host:
"In order to transfer the domain name to your new provider (CC) you need to organise the following:
.co.uk domain - In order to transfer the .co.uk domain name,
we need to be given the new 'Nominet Tag' for your new provider (CC). We can then switch the tag at our end and your new provider (CC) can gain access to the domain name.
.com domain - In order to transfer the .com domain name, your new provider (CC) will need to request a transfer of the .com domain from their end. We have unlocked the domain so this can be requested. Once they have done this, we will be able to provide an authorisation code that will enable them to complete the transfer."
Please help. This is very confusing..
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!!

    Hi,
If planning on reusing a domain for another site...
First you need to remove the domain from our old site/host. Once you have done this you can then add your domain to whichever site you require.  Then set up your DNS accordingly whether you want to host with BC or externally.
    Adding domain references:

  • Design a site, use my domain name, and host it via .mac

It sounds simple, and I thought a search through these forums would yield some easy answers, but no luck, so here goes:
I'm an advanced Photoshop and Final Cut Studio user, running an audio/video/image restoration and transfer business, but I'm a total beginner in the iWeb/.Mac area.
About three years ago, I decided it was time for a web site, so I went to a local company; they designed and still host my site, for which I pay them $30.00 per month; it's a simple site with no ecommerce, and six or seven pages. There is a contact form through which potential customers can email me.
I also have a domain name, for which I pay $15.00 per year to the same company.
My site is OK, but it's the same as it was three years ago; any small changes I have asked the company to make (mostly just text additions/changes) they have done at the rate of $75.00 per hour.
What I want to do is cancel my account with them, design a totally new site using iWeb, start a .mac account, and have the site hosted using my domain name, so that the average customer who sees my newspaper ad can navigate to my new site exactly as they can with the current one. (I only have one email account, through my ISP, which I don't want to change.)
I've got lots of questions, but mostly, what else do I have to do to make this switch besides cancelling my account with my current company? (After an overlap period, of course) What happens with my domain name--who will I pay to keep it? And finally, what simple things am I not thinking of?
Many thanks in advance to anyone with enough patience to read through this, and still find time to provide some assistance.

You can design your site in iWeb and upload it to either .Mac or a commercial server.
You would then provide the domain name registrar with your server ID number or, in the case of .Mac, your .Mac URL and instruct them to point your domain name in that direction.
.Mac is neither intended for, nor the best option, for a business site.
For example the company I host with - Host Excellence - allows you a free domain name registration and up to 6 sites with unlimited web mail and more server space than you are likely to need for about the cost of a .Mac account.
Commercial servers are a lot more reliable than .Mac, have wider bandwidth and usually have good tech support.
You only have to look at the number of problems in this forum concerning .Mac to see that tech support is not readily available from Apple.
I'm not putting down .Mac. I use it myself for various purposes and it is good for its intended use of one clicking publishing of personal websites.

  • Help:Domain name forwarding to .mac URL

Experts - newbie here - used iweb and built my site. Forwarded my domain name to the .mac URL and everytime I try to access the domain name I get a .mac screen that says my .mac iweb site does not exist. Seemed all rather simple with point and click so now what? Thanks

everytime I try to access the domain name I get a
.mac screen that says my .mac iweb site does not
    exist.
Most likely you made an error in the url. If you would provide the two urls someone could probably help you fix it, otherwise it's pretty impossible.

  • Use only IP-number and skip web domain name?

I have a Mac Mini Server and I am about to order an external firewall device. The firewall will be used with vpn to get access to the server from the internet. Access to the server will only be for my colleages . The server should not be accessible for other people at all (e.g., no public website, etc).
Here comes my newbie question…is it possible to only use my static public IP number to get access to the server through vpn? Do I really need a a web domain name?
Do I really need to get dns involved on the outside?
At the moment I am using my servers Wiki and blog by typing in the IP-number in the browsers address field. It would be fine with with me to continue with that.

is it possible to only use my static public IP number to get access to the server through vpn? Do I really need a a web domain name?
Sure. if you can remember your IP address you can use that anywhere. DNS exists because there are literally millions of IP addresses out there and human brains are better at remembering words (e.g. 'discussions.apple.com') than they are numbers (e.g. '64.212.100.59').
Do I really need to get dns involved on the outside?
Since it's only you and your colleagues, not at all.
At the moment I am using my servers Wiki and blog by typing in the IP-number in the browsers address field. It would be fine with with me to continue with that.
It's also not hard to setup a local DNS for your internal systems - once you're connected to VPN you'd automatically start using the internal DNS server and would be able to use memorable names, but it's entirely your choice.

  • Can´t resolve domain names in the intranet

I am unable to see a site in my workplace's intranet because safari (and explorer) are unable to resolve the server domain name (//dbs01/login.asp/) and the most frustrating part is that the lamest PC connected to it can. I worked it around changing the dbs01 part for the ip number of the server (192.168.100.1xx) and was able to login to the site but as I click on any link my problem starts again because the javascript instructions redirect the browser to pages using the name "dbs01". How can I make it work?
This happens with airport as well as ethernet connection to the intranet
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Updated info: I realized today, after doing some more digging, that when the Cisco Windows client is installed, it basically creates a new network adapter. When I go to that network adapter, and check the properties for TCP/IP, there are entries under DNS for my county's DNS server. So when I am connected with Cisco VPN using Parallels, I can access the internet no problem because the vpn client has DNS entries. But when I connect using the Mac version of Cisco, on the same laptop, while in Mac OS X, I can't go to an internet site unless I manually enter the IP address. So, I'm still needing help here. Is it a setting my county needs to change on the Cisco switch? They had mentioned to me that when connected with VPN, all regular internet traffic is routed through one's ISP. But that doesn't seem to be the case here...

  • 4503 VTP Domain Name

I have a lab that consists of 2 - 4503 with SUPII running cat4000-i9s-mz.122-25.EWA14.bin as the core devices.  I have been practicing for the BCMSN test and was working with the different VTP confiuration options.  Here are the two issues that I am having.  One of which from reading other posts, I may have answered, but want to verify.
1- 4503 (Core_1) was configured as Server, but no VTP summary advertisements where being propegated to the other clients.  I verified the configuration multiple times to ensure accuracy.  All VTP Domain names where empty (factory default).  Not until I changed the VTP Domain name to Test, did I get propegation of vtp advertisements.  I have in the past been able to set up vtp on 3550, 3560 switches with no VTP Domain name and VTP worked as expected.  From reading, it appears the non propegation of vtp summary advertisements is the norm for 4503.  Can someone verity this.
2- How do you remove the VTP Domain name from the 4503?  I was able to remove the name from the other devices, 3550, 3560 by doing the following:
         del flash:vlan.dat
          wr er
          reload
On the 4503 I did the following:
          Switch#del /r /f cat4000_flash:vlan.dat
          reload
After reload, everything was back.  I also assumed when the 4503 was booting, it may have recieved the VTP information from the other 4503.  So I isolated both by disconnecting the uplinks to all other devices.  Still no go.  I have copied the start-up config to a tftp server, modified the config by removing all vtp information then copied back to running-config and this worked.  But it seems like there should be a better (easier) way of getting the vtp domain name removed on a 4503

    Hi,
Deleting the vlan.dat from cisco switches will delete the complete vlan and vtp information from database and if you are not able to delete the domain name in these type of situation try configuring the some bogus name with mode as transperent mode so that other should not get impacted.

  • Need to set hostname and domain name

    Hi All,
    I need to
    1) set my "hostname" (foo), and
    2) set my "domain name" (acme.local)
such that my machine identifies itself as "foo.acme.local". Anyone know how to do this? (I found the host name in file sharing, but it will not let me set the domain name.)
    Many thanks,
    -T

    etresoft wrote:
Your domain is the name of your server.
What gave you that idea? My domain name is "acme.local". It is not the name of my server. I have three servers on my network. The one with the DNS, DHCP, and firewall servers on it called "server.acme.local".
I am confused about why you feel the need to have a subdomain.
This is not a subdomain. What gave you the impression I was asking for a subdomain?
What you seek to accomplish is entirely unnecessary and far more involved than just editing a config file.
Pretty easy in Linux and Windows. They just grab the domain name from the DHCP server. Or, you can hand configure them if you wish. Do you know how accomplish same in 10.6.4?
Give your machine a name in System Preferences > Sharing and it will have the name "whatever.local". That is all you need.
I would like to the entire network name displayed correctly. "whatever.local" is incorrect. It should be "machinename.domainname" or "foo.acme.local". In my example, "foo" is the machine name ("whatever" in your example) and "acme.local" is the domain name. (Not the server's name, by the way.)
"System Preferences > Sharing" will not let me add any extra periods. And will not let me change the ".local" either. (In this instance, I want the ".local".)
Here is the reverse rule I had to hand create:
    182 PTR foo.acme.local.
(The dot on the end is not a mistake.)
I do not want a stray computer floating around that does not identify itself correctly. "foo.acme.local" is correct. "foo.local" is not.
By the way, this computer gets its IP address from a DHCP server, which does tell this Apple what the domain name is. (It gets ignored.)
    /etc/dhcpd.conf
    option domain-name "acme.local";
That is the config file for your DHCP server. You would use this if your machine were sharing its internet connection, for example. You don't need to edit this file.
You misunderstand. The DHCP server, not on this Mac, is not being used to share Internet connections. It is being used to assign IP addresses to machines on the local network. It is also being used to assign fixed IP's to network printers based on their MAC addresses. In my network, these are "off Internet" addresses. The firewall, also not on this Mac, it used to share a single Internet connection with all the internal users.
Hmmm. I created the file (dhcpd.conf) by hand. And, yes I do need to edit it all the time. Especially when I have bone headed machines on my network that do not follow or respond to standard networking conventions. This Mac does not accept the domain name given to it by my DHCP server and as such my DHCP server will not automatically update my DNS tables.
Evidence of this can be found in the dhcpd.leases, where I had to hand enter
    client-hostname "foo";
into the lease table (did not do me any good).
I am wondering if 10.6.4 is not capable of handling this kind of standard network naming convention. (FreeBSD, which Apple run on top, is capable, so I am confused.)
MacOS X does not run on top of FreeBSD. They are different operating systems. MacOS X has a POSIX layer which most closely resembles BSD, that is all.
Interesting. Thank you for pointing out the difference. I bet POSIX know how, just like FreeBSD, which it resembles.
If I change the name in /etc/hosts, will Apple over ride it? (I am not at the machine or I would just try it.)
You do not "change" the name in /etc/hosts. You are just adding entries into your machine's lookup table. You can add as many aliases to as many IP addresses as you want. This is not the same as changing your machine's name, but it may be sufficient for what you are trying to accomplish - assuming I knew that, which I don't.
Then, where do I make the change?
10.6.4 did not tell the DHCP server what its name was either, so I had to hand add it into my DNS forward and reverse records. AAAAHHHHH!!!!
I strongly advise against editing files you don't understand.
I create my entire DNS configuration by hand, including my forward and reverse tables. Oh yes, I understand it, do I ever understand it. You should not jump to conclusions: it is insulting. I am presuming you meant no insult. Just be more careful next time.
I think that what is happening here is that 10.6.4 is not set up to follow standard network naming conventions. I would posit that the idea is to keep home users out of trouble. Probably a good thing. If 10.6.4 is not capable of using standard naming conventions, (or following standard DHCP conventions), I would just like a confirmation of that so I will stop trying to figure out how to do it. And, stop wasting my time and just hand configure any additional Mac's that enter my network.
Again, a "confirmation that it can not be done", or "how to do it" is what I am looking for.
    Thank you for the assistance,
    -T

It says i used up 17mb of 25mb on my idisk, once i hit 25 what happens?

ok well lets say i want to use a domain name such as
www.mywebste.com. if i forward it then all u have ot
do is type in www.mywebsite.com and it will bing u to
    web.mac.com/whatever?
    Yes.
If i do it this way will i
still be able to use all of the iwebs fatures such as
    blog comment, hit counter...?
I think so, but since I don't do this I don't know for sure.
also if i do it this way will i have to pay for the
    .mac subscription too?
Yes, if you keep your site physically on .Mac you have to pay for it.
can you send me a website where i can find lots of
effects i can use in my iweb page because the effects
    on iweb are very limited.
The best thing for you to do is search this forum using the term for the effect you are interested in.
If you find iWeb too limited and don't find workarounds in this Forum for adding the effects you want, you can consider using another app. Here is one list:
