Incremental Planning Refresh in 9.3.1

Hi,
I am trying to do an 'incremental' refresh in Hyperion Planning 9.3.1
Currently, I migrated the Oracle Schema from 9.2 to 9.3 and converted the planning application. I was also able to refresh the new outline to Essbase. However, certain members need to be added to the Time Dimension and we have done it in Essbase. Now when I do a refresh, the changes in Essbase disappear.
I do know that changes should not be made in Essbase and should be made in Planning, however, the time dimension does not allow the creation of new 'siblings' on the Web Front End.
I was able to successfully keep the changes made in Essbase in 9.2 (Planning Desktop allowed the admin to select 'incremental' or 'full' refresh). However this option is missing in 9.3.1
Please advice.

Hi,
The UDA will only retain member formulas.
If you read all the information on the page, this relates to your situation :-
To retain changes made directly to the Essbase outline, you must update the outline after every Refresh (for example, using MAXL scripts). Such changes can be automated. This process is not supported, and every effort should be made to work directly in Performance Management Architect or Planning. For more information, consult Hyperion Services or Hyperion Partners.

Tree Component with incremental auto-refresh?

Is there a free (preferably) or commercial JSF tree component with a general AJAX-based incremental auto-refresh?
Essentially when dealing with a tree of data which can lose or add nodes at any time, it would be nice to have an optional polling mechanism built into the tree that would check the server for tree insertion and removal events and handle any such events whenever they're found via incremental AJAX-based modifications to the tree -- not a full refresh. The same is true for tree node change events.
To be clear this is not a substitute for handling client events -- the tree data is indicative of shared state and changes independently from user actions.

But setting refresh="always" generates exceptions in even simple cases. Is it because I am using MySQL which does not have event notification support?

Planning Refresh problem?

The suggestion is
1. change the Member from Dynamic Calc to Store
2. Refresh (After these Step the Formulas where still out of sync)
3. change the Member from Store to Dynamic Calc
4. Refresh
After these Steps the Formulas are in sync again.

Planning refreshing problem.

Hi pals
We have an application and we are trying to refresh it into our essbase database.
The problem appears when we try to do it, if doesn't matter the refreshing method used.
- if we try incremental refresh, we get an error that states "Couldn't locate member for update: MbrName"
-if we do the full refresh, we get "Couldn't move member (Source - Destination - Mbr1 -Mbr2)
Both members already exist, both in Planning as in Essbase long time ago, and they aren't level 0 members,... actually the have lot of childs.
so, what could be happening?

Hi,
I have seen this on pre 9.3 versions.
It usually happens if :-
a member is moved and then deleted
a member is deleted and another member is renamed to the same name as the member you deleted.
If you can try and revert back to before you made the changes and do any deletes first then refresh, then do the rest.

Planning Refresh is hung in 9.3.0.1...recycling web services does not clear

Hello,
I had an issue with HAL and a refresh following a typical hal routine. Now my planning application is hung. If I refresh, it says I can't because I am already refreshing, if I try to run a hal routine it says i can't because I am refreshing.
And if I try to run unlockapp.exe and unlock the app, I receive a "Runtime Error '91': Object Variable or With block variable not set." error message....any ideas? How do I clear the refresh??????? It's been 5 days.

Hi John,
Even I am facing a similar kind of problem with my HAL Routine. Whe I run my HAL routine, it throws a errror saying "The Object CUTOMER is locked by another user". "Customer" is one of the dimensions in our Application. It got locked as the HAL routine that updates the dimension failed in the middle of the process.
Does your suggestion help unlock the Planning Application or help running the UnlockApp.exe utility?

Error in Planning refresh

Hi,
I updated my planning dimension so I was trying to refresh database. But I throw an error at step 9 of 33.
Error->
Step 9 of 33: [Financia] Adding members to dimension Version.
com.hyperion.planning.olap.EssbaseException: 1st Pass (1060051)
then I check application log file which has following error.
[Mon May 07 14:45:21 2012]Local/Test2/Financia/admin@Native Directory/3844/Error(1023069)
Location alias WFCube already exists
Please help me to solve this issue.

The same error has been logged elsewhere on the forums, but occurred under slightly different circumstances...
Unable to do some actions with EPMA application
Suggestions include increasing a timeout setting or checking drive space where the refresh hits.....might not be helpful in your case though.....

Planning Refresh wiping out access security

Hi,
We are facing issues with access secuirty getting wiped out from planning applications
We need assistance in researching what is causing the read/write access security to get wiped out from planning applications. Twice now in the last month this security has been eliminated and had to be manually reloaded.
This is how the refresh script looks like, we perform refresh on daily basis. Refresh completes with no issues.

CubeRefresh.sh look like this

I take it is version 11.1.1.x then maybe it relates to the following Oracle support doc - "Hyperion Planning Security Disappears After Refreshing Security (Doc ID 1378363.1)"

Planning Refresh causing Essbase to crash and generate xcp - Urgent

Has anyone seen this before. In our Production environment (9.2.0.3 on Windows), when a security refresh was attempted from Planning Desktop, it crashed the Essbase server. An XCP file was created and it indicates "Set Filter" pending.
Suspecting that it had to do with the the Essbase.sec file, so far, we have tried going back a few days, same result again.
Any thoughts. It is an urgent issue. Oracle support is on conference but any faster response is appreciated.

- Vijay D.We encountered exactly the same problem. However when we shutdown the Essbase services again, the essbase.sec corrupted again! We don't know why.

Data Form showing wrong total after Planning Refresh

Hi. My end users are having an issue in Planning after a refresh.
Existing projects (budgets) display correct information through data forms. However, when opening a data form to input numbers for a new budget, the data form is populated with the sum of all budgets, instead of showing the expected $0 dollar values.
In an attempt to fix the issue, we've run a few data refreshes through the Planning Desktop. They run without error, but do not fix the problem.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
We are using planning version 9.2.0.2.

The data form should show exactly what is in essbase so if you query essbase with the Excel Add-in you should see the same number.
Seems like either your data is not what you expect it to be or the form definition is incorrect.

We are getting "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space" error while refresh or create database from planning to essbase after bulk metadata into planning
we have already set Xmx,Xms as 1024m,1024m
We are in version 11.1.1.3. our server confg is 1CPU with 8 GB ram.this new setup
We have installed planning only on this mechine.

Dimension members were not deleted after refresh in Planning desktop

A Planning application's outline was restored from backup.
It contains some dimension members which were deleted from Planning Web some weeks before and there were made many Planning refreshes after. Full database refresh had been made in Planning desktop and these members were not removed. As refreshing is a procedure to keep metadata in correspondence such result isn't expected in my opinion.
Is it normal behavior ?

i had a similar problem before. here is what i did
add the member again.
refresh
delete the member
refresh again.
this solves the relational repositories sync issue.

Error on refreshing a planning application (9.2.1)

Hi,
When I try to refresh a planning application thru planning desktop the process stops with the error 'Error Detected.Failed to launch member formula synchronization utility, error level 1. Check classpath and other configuration parameters in ../Utils/setHPEnv.bat -2147220590'.
The version of planning is 9.2.1 and I upgraded my application to 9.2.1 from 9.2.0.2. Under 9.2.0.2 I had no problems at all.
I installed 9.2.1 two days ago and I am making some tests but I found this problem.
I checked the above file and it seems ok to me.
Do you have a clue of what might goes wrong?

We faced the same issue. Please find below the cause and solution:
Cause:
This happens due to database driver port number change
Impact:
Planning refresh will return errors pertaining to JDBC connectivity. While trying to add a new member in Planning web, and refreshing, the member gets added in Essbase outline, but all the member formulas will be erased. Hence, addition of the new member in Essbase outline is never a check for having the refresh went through.
Resolution:
1. Navigate to D:\Hyperion\HyperionPlanning\Utils folder and EDIT setHPenv.bat
2. Within setHPenv.bat, check the path/location of the properties file. This will be mentioned in set PLN_PROPERTIES_PATH=D:\Hyperion\HyperionPlanning\....
3. Get the PLN_PROPERTIES_PATH(path) from the above step, copy and paste it in a windows explorer browser to navigate to the correct Planning properties file being pointed to. Check the file 'HspJSHome.properties' for the port number. This will be mentioned in:
<your application name>JDBCURL=jdbc:hyperion:oracle://<your database server>: [PORT NUMBER];SID =<your database/scehma name>
Also note the name of the JDBC_CATALOG given in <your application name>JDBCCATALOG = {note this name}
4. Note the PORT NUMBER and JDBC_CATALOG name mentioned in this file.
5. Run the Configuration Utility [Hyperion System 9 Foundation--> Configuration utility] and regenerate the HspJSHome.properties file. Check if the new PORT NUMBER has been updated. Compare the new port number with the port number mentioned in Step 4.
6. If not, go to command prompt-- C:\tnsping <Give your JDBC_CATALOG name from Step 4> , to return the new PORT NUMBER.
7. Update this PORT NUMBER in HspJSHome.properties file in
<your application name>JDBCURL=jdbc:hyperion:oracle://<your database server>: [NEW PORT NUMBER];SID =<your database/scehma name>
Now the refresh will happen successfully.

Planning database "dense" refresh problem

Hello guys,
We are facing a big problem. We have a dense dimension that is in a "big" app (around 70gb). We had migrated that app to a new test enviroment but when try to refresh any change in that dimension, it takes a lot of time than dev enviroment (original enviroment where we tried it).
Is any property/setting or whatelse that we can set to increse memory/cpu/caché or whatelse to improve "Planning Refresh performance"?

"To export data in parallel, specify a comma-separated list of export files. The number of threads Essbase uses depends on the number of file names you specify. "
