Open InDesign 2.0 file in the CS5

I have a InDesign 2.0 file. When I open with CS5 version, the application warning the following: "Cannot open 'File.indd'. Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest version, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign."
Also the dialog box shows the item "EPS PAGE ITEM.RLPN".
How fix this? How I can to open a InDesign 2.0 file again?

Do you still have version 2.0 (which is not the same as CS2, so maybe we should calrify just what the original file is)? Will it open in the original?
If it is, in fact a version 2.0 file and will not open in version 2.0 you have a real problem and the only hope I know of would be to send it to Markzware: Fix Your Bad InDesign Files!
If you want to zip the file and send it to me, I'll have a go at opening it in a few hours, but I can't promise anything.

INDD CS6 error: "InDesign cannot open files in the "InDesign CS5.5 Document" format.

Working in CS6 on Mac OS X 10.7.5: When I double click an INDD file in the Finder, I get the following error from InDesign:
"The document "doc name" could not be opened. InDesign cannot open files in the "InDesign CS5.5 Document" format."
This just started recently and I have not been able to figure out why. I have not updated INDD or OS X. I can't think of anything else that changed, other than maybe a Java update. Have not updated to the latest OS yet.
The files I'm trying to open are files I created with CS6 - as recent as a few minutes ago. I can open them fine using the File>Open command in InDesign so I can open them, but I can't open them by double clicking them in Finder or dragging them to the INDD icon in the dock.
The info in Finder's "Get Info" window says they are CS6 files set to open in CS6 and I have permissions to read and write. They are not locked.
This is not incapacitating, but rather annoying and slows me down since this is one of the most common ways I open files.
Any suggestsion would be appreciated.

Probably won't work because it sounds like an OS problem of some sort, but you can try trashing the prefs. See Replace Your Preferences

CS5 InDesign cannot open files in the InDesign CS5 document format

I'll be working in InDesign CS5 with no problems then at some point I'll double click on an InDesign file and a window comes up and says - InDesign cannot open files in the InDesign CS5 document format. Sometimes when this happens I have to completely reboot my whole system before I can get InDesign to function correctly. Is this a flaw with CS5? Did not happen with previous versions. It doesn't always happen but I can't figure out what causes it. Would appreciate anyones help. I'm getting to really HATE InDesign!!

I have not uninstalled and reinstalled, but I did just switch over to another workstation using Time Machine. The previous system was Leopard. This one is running Snow Leopard.
I'm not sure how to parse this. When you say "switch over to another workstaiton using Time Machine" do you mean, "started using another machine that happens to be using Time Machine for backups and is also running 10.6 instead of 10.5"?
Or do you mean, "Used the Time Machine program to upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6?" If you mean the second one, well, I can't say I am surprised that things are messed up. And that would make your problem rather different than the other posters, which is good reason for you to have started your own thread (and thus your own solution)....
I'm a little bit leary of getting in and changing things in Terminal, without understanding what I am changing. Plus this is a workstation at work, so if I screw something up, that is not a good things, and I don't have time to spend a day fixing things back up again, with the way our workload is.
Well, you can find a lot of marginal documentation about lsregister and Launch Services, but I wonder whether your understood the ramifications of messing with Time Machine (or maybe I have misinterpretted you!). I'd be surprised if you found another way to fix this, other than uninstall/reinstall.

InDesign CS6 files shown with CS5.5 icons

I've recently installed CS6, I ended up with a lot of icon and extension problems, so I uninstalled CS6, ran Adobe Script cleaner and reinstalled. Everything is now in order except for one thing. The .indd files shows the CS5.5 instead of the CS6 icon. The standard program is set to InDesign CS6 (D:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS6\InDesign.exe). I also checked the registry and everything is in order.
Opening the file results in CS6 starting up. So I don't know what's up... But it is quite annoying, I just want everything to be in order. I even tried download third-party software like 'FileTypesMan', to no avail. Does anyone know a smart work-around?
Notice the screenshot below, the programe is set to CS6, the icon in the lower right corner is set to 5.5

It seems to have fixed itself, I have no idea how or why. But when a miracle happens one does not ask questions. ;-)

Cannot open an idml file created in CS5.5 in either CS5 or CS5.5

I have exported a CS5.5 file to idml but I cannot get it to open in either CS5 or CS5.5. Below is a screenshot of the error I get in both versions.
I have tried getting rid of all 3rd party plugins and resetting preferences to ID defaults in both CS versions but I always get this error. This testtest doc is a new file opened in CS5.5 with a text frame and a few words in 'Basic Paragraph' style and that is it. I checked for updates for both versions and there were none.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I have seen this problem before. I do not know what causes it (I suspect a corrupt InDesign installation), but I do know how to fix it.
IDML files are .ZIP files containing XML.
Inside the IDML file there is a file called "designmap.xml". In your case, it starts (ok, line 2) like this:
<?aid style="50" type="pi_for_SaveBackINX" readerVersion="6.0" featureSet="257" product="7.5(142)" ?>
But typically it would look like this:
<?aid style="50" type="document" readerVersion="6.0" featureSet="257" product="7.5(142)" ?>
The difference is sufficient to cause it to not be properly parsed.
So, to fix this problem, you can rename the .IDML file to .ZIP, unzip it, edit the designmap.xml changing pi_for_SaveBackINX to document, re-zip it, and rename it back to IDML. (Make sure not to change the directory structure when you do this.)

I downloaded CS5.5 on my laptop this afternoon. I then opened a CS5 file, worked on it, then saved. Now I cannot open the file in either CS5 or CS5.5. Is says InDEsign may not support the file format, the file is missing, or it is opened in anaother application. Does anyone know how I can open this file?

Just to be clear:
It won't open in either version. I created the file in CS5 (school computer lab), worked on it in CS5.5 (on my personal laptop connected through the server), then tried to open it on a school coputer using CS5. The file will not open.
Once you edit a CS5 file in CS5.5, it becomes a CS5.5 file and you will not be able to open it in CS5.
Make sure you are running the version you think you are, and don't double-click the file, but actually use File > Open from within InDesign CS5.5.

ABSOLUTELY NOT !.
Blame the photographer nor the camera or the software.—unless it's a cr@ppy camera or lens.
The DNG Converter does not touch your raw pixels at all. It just takes them from the RAF wrapper and puts them in a new DNG wrapper.

When changing the font size in the top toolbar menu, if you type the font size in and hit return the value is ignored. If you leave the font size value highlighted/selected for more than a couple of seconds it deselects the value and when you type it replaces the text you have selected in the InDesign document. This also happens in the horizontal scale box. If you use the pull down menu it works fine.Just seems very buggy. I have recreated the scenario by taking the Indesign 2.02 documents to another location and the same problem is encountered. I would be happy to e-mail ftp them to see the problem.

InDesign JavaScript "help" file

I have used Jongware's InDesign JavaScript help files and have really found them essential. I am grateful for his efforts to make these available.
I am primarily a FrameMaker user and Adobe is going to provide ExtendScript support for the next version of FrameMaker. The FrameMaker object model is shown in the ExtendScript Toolkit CS5 Object Model Viewer. I would like to do something similar to what Jongware did in extracting the data to a series of HTML files. I am having difficulty figuring out where this data is stored. I can't find an XML file that contains the data. I am mainly posting this here because I haven't been able to contact Jongware directly. Thanks in advance for any help.

In other cases I've had clients hand off files that were supposed to be InDesign files but turned out to be renamed zipfiles or PDF files or Word files (all of which fall under the "may not support the file format" statement above). You've already ruled out it being open elsewhere by searching for .idlk files, and you've ruled out plugin issues already (by not having a CS6 file generate the new "because it was saved with a newer version" message, and chances that you've installed some kind of plugin that ), so it almost has to be a file that is broken or misnamed in some way.

2.0 files will open up fine in CS4, you won't need any special conversion tools. However once you've opened the file in CS4 and changed it you will have to save it as a CS4 file. There is no way you can open that file again in 2.0 unless you have all the versions in between, and even then it would be very messy and time consuming.

I'm having difficulty putting old presets (CS5.5), the new version (CS6).
I downloaded the trial version, but only came fourth file conversion options, among them F4V, FLV, H.264 and MP3. Where did all the other options (MPG, AIFF, M2V and many others)??

AME gets installed through a host application. You probably got AME CS6 by installing Flash CS6? If so, Flash Pro or Design applications only support limited set of codecs/formats. If you install Production Premium and launch Premiere Pro, then go back to AME, you will get all supported formats.
