InDesign CC taking forever to start up

Forgive me if this has been discussed elsewhere, but it's taking quite a long time to load InDesign CC. Like, almost 30 minutes. It's going through the process, I see "Starting up panels," "Calling Late Initializers," etc.
And once it's started up, the program will often freeze.
I'm running InDesign CC 2014 on a MacBook Pro (late 2011) and my system is Yosemite 10.10.2.
Sometimes I'm also running Extensis Suitcase, but even quitting Suitcase doesn't seem to have any affect on things.
Thanks!

For sure you should try removing the Extensis plugin from ID, and trash your prefs. See Replace Your Preferences

  • My brand new 13" MacBook Pro is taking FOREVER to start up - Please help!

Hi, I'm the proud owner of a new aluminium 13" MacBook Pro. It is running perfectly and I'm very happy with it.
My issue is that when I start the machine after shutdown it is taking 2-3 minutes to load up the desktop, usually showing a blue screen and the mouse pointer the entire time.
I turned off automatic login in and when I did, the password and username screen came on in good time, so it is something about my account that is slowing it down.
I've run Onyx, reset the PRAM and followed all sorts of tips from this forum, but nothing has worked.
    Please help if you can!

Well we have made plenty of suggestions with in this thread and it appears as if you know your way around a computer, so I see a few options in your near future.
1st option - Your computer is under a 14 day return policy, so you can take it back and exchange if you'd like, but they may charge a restocking fee. This is an extreme option for this problem.
2nd option - Call Apple Care, you get free support off the bat and if you have not purchased the 3 year Apple Care I would highly recommend that. Call them and they "WILL" help you fix the problem. Best option!
3rd option - Everyone should have a bootable system backup (and I do not mean Time Machine). So if I may suggest that you purchase a good external firewire or USB drive that you can load OSX on and boot externally. This will help you in troubleshooting now and in the future. After you get the problem resolved you can get SuperDuper (free) and create a total bootable backup up of your system.
4th option - Don't shutdown the Mac! This may sound funny but you really never have any reason to shutdown a Mac. The only time I shutdown any of my Macs is after a software update reboot is required and I may shutdown, If I am having issues with a Mac I may shutdown and restart (maybe three times in 7 years), and lastly if you are traveling and will be away from AC power for a good length of time then you may wish to shutdown. Other than that just shut the lid!!!

  • Numbers 3 taking forever to start

When I start my imac under Mavericks and open Numbers AnD when I switch from another application the beach ball spins forever.

Back up your documents and everything else important to you, not that there is any reason to believe your hard disk may be failing, but the symptoms you describe may presage an impending disk failure, and you should have backups anyway.
To help determine the possible causes of this behaviour read the following. None of what follows is intended to fix anything, but it will provide the additional information required to advance troubleshooting:
Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red.
When it finishes restart your Mac and test again for operation. If it's still not behaving as you expect it should, please post the results of EtreCheck in accordance with the following instructions:
Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Go to his website, download and run EtreCheck:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Etrecheck will be in your Downloads folder. Open it from there. You may see the following dialog box:
Click Open - etresoft contributes to this forum frequently and can be considered a trustworthy developer.
It will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
Copy and paste its output in a reply.
Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or “failed” or anything else that may appear in red.
EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.
After completing the above please determine if the problems also occur in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

  • After taking forever to start up, I get this pop-up "your profile was not loaded correctly. You have been logged on with a temporary profile. Changes you make will be lost when you log off. Everything is lost. My homepage is I-google if that helps.

Yesterday i downloaded CutePDF, which is now uninstalled. I also attempted to add the"opt-out browser plug-in for Google Analytics.

You probably can't see the DOS attack on the home hub.  If you were using a broadband modem directly connected to your PC, you probably could, with somekind of firewall.
The tricky thing with avoiding DOS attacks is they fake incoming connections that you actually need - so they can't be blocked - or if they're blocked, your services won't work properly.  Some routers will automatically stop responding to incoming TCP requests, if they see a flood of them.
In the router configuration, there should be an option to set the router not to respond to pings - or ICMP messages. If someone is attacking you, they may be pinging the router, or pinging something that is letting them know it's you before they commence their attack. The game provider shouldn't be making your address visible to other players. If you think they are, contact the game provider.

  • Why is myMacBook Pro now taking ages to start and seizing up.

why is my MacBook Pro now taking forever to start and seizing up?

    Ellen285,
I don’t know. If you would provide some details about your MacBook Pro — which model it is, which version of OS X is installed on it, how much RAM it has, how much free disk space it has, whether or not it acts the same way when it’s been booted into Safe mode — perhaps possible reasons could be offered.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.
Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

Now this is the part I don't get. The book tells me to go to http://localhost:8080/ch1/Serv1 even though there are no files/folders that have the name Serv1.
Do you understand what the <servlet-mapping> declaration in the web.xml means? It is roughly just saying the appserver that it should port all requests on /Serv1 to the mentioned servlet.
a couple others like/ch1/WEB-INF/classes/Ch1Servlet.class and /ch1/WEB-INF/web.xml. The WEB-INF folder is not public accessible, so forget about that part.
"Resource not found" simply means that either the URL is wrong (case counts!) or that the resource is actually not there. I.e. not compiled, not deployed, not loaded, etcetera. Reading the appserver's startup logs might also help.

  • My ipod touch is takeing forever to update to IOS 5.01

i have an ipod touch and its a 4 gen and i have a new computer and it realy fast but my ipod update is takeing forever to update i have done everything i even changed some internet setting it still takes forever please help me. ,Thank you

If your iPod does not have camera it is a 3G iPod. Those can only go to 5.1.1. Its hardware does not support a higher version.
As other have said, a 4G (first one to have cameras) can only go to 6.1.6
A 5G can go to the current 7.1.2
To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

  • Time machine to airdisk taking forever...maybe a gig an hour

So I set up my Airport Extreme Airdisk as a Time Machine disk. I started the first backup and its taking forever...if I am lucky its sending a gig an hour on an 802.11n machine.
    Any thoughts?

It seems that Time Machine uses Apple's disk imaging mechanism.
The version of this in Leopard uses a helper app called diskimages-helper. You can see it in the process list of Activity Monitor when running Time Machine, Disk Utility or Carbon Copy Cloner disk imaging.
This app seems to have issues with images larger than around 80GB. I have now shown that whether started by Time Machine, Disk Utility or Carbon Cloner images between 120 and 200GB run flat chat (disk limited) for the first 80GB or so and then slow down dramatically.
How much data are you trying to backup?
On the upside, once the first copy is made. incremental Time Machine backups seem to be very fast. Perhaps if you set time Time Machine with enough exclusions to get the first image down to 80GB, it may be possible to add the rest later. I have not tried this.
On the topic of should you use an airdisk: I see that it is a requirement that the backup disk/share supports ACLs. I think Airdisk might be OK for data files, but probably will not restore a full working boot disk. Have you tried that?

  • Shared Services is taking forever to come up

    Hello Experts,
One of my customer has an issue with Shared Services. They have intergrated Shared Services with Active Directory and want to pull users into a SS from a specific AD group. Right now its pulling all the users but Shared Services is taking forever to come up.
    Environment:
    Essbase version 9.3.1
    OS : Win 2003 server SP1
Any inputs on this issue is appreciated. Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Sonu

    Hi,
Is the MSAD large, if so are you filtering down to a more specific area instead of looking at the whole AD.
Also have you tried applying patch :- 9.3.1.0.07 which addresses -
Shared Services made several calls to the user directory server (LDAP or MSAD) to build group and user cache, causing slow startup performance (Bug# 7144686). This fix significantly reduces the number of calls made to the user directory server to improve start up performance.
You can download it from metalink3
