InDesign CC won't open a CS2 file

I am on an Intel Mac running Mavericks. Just change computers and have CC. On my old Mac, I worked in CS2.
I am attempting to open an IDCS2 file on my new Mac, and I get a tiny window that says only "Can't open <file name>". I looked all over the file on old Mac, and the only thing I see that could cause this is a plug-in called InBooklet that doesn't seem to exist in CC. Could that be the reason? And what can I do about it?
If anyone's had this issue, I'd be happy to hear from you, thanks.

In that case, I apologize for the snark. I didn't realize that. Thanks.

  • Which version of InDesign on OSX can open a CS2 file!?

Hello, I was using Creative Suite 2 on my Mac with an older operating system. My Mac died and I had the HD replaced. They have updated to OS X and CS2 is not compatible with this system. Which version of InDesign in particular can open a CS2 file!? Many thanks

As far as I know, all versions after CS2 should be able to open CS2 documents. Cannot test this, my oldest version installed is CS3.
Depending on the Mac and your current OSX CS6 would be the only logical replacement for your old CS2 version.
CS6 is the only perpetual version available, if you do not want a subscription with Creative Cloud.
But if you want a subscription based InDesign, be aware that you are needing OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) or OSX 10.10 (Yosemite) when CC-2015 will be published soon.
Before they have updated your system (and your Mac?), they (whoever they are) had to know this.

  • InDesign CC won't open CS6 indd file...

I have a singular document in indesign cs6 that doesn't open in indesign cc.
but it crashes whenever i try to export it to idml in cs6. another idea?

I've moved this to a new thread of its own and changed the title...
It sounds like the file is corrupt. There was a script floating around not long ago that is supposed to export to .idml without opening the file. You might want to see if it comes up in a search. There's also a tool for Windows that might work: Adobe Community: Program for restoring corrupted InDesign documents (for Windows only) I've had little success with it, but you never know.
There's also the markzware recovery service if you really need the file and rebuilding would cost more than a couple of hundred dollars.

  • CS3 InDesign won't open a CS2 In Design .INX file

CS3 InDesign won't open a CS2 In Design .INX file.
I sent my graphic designer an .INX file created on CS2
and he got an error message and said he could not open.
He said it is not possible.
He lost the job - because he didn't want to investigate further.
I can't imagine ADOBE leaving this problem unsolved!
    What do I do??

I don't recall that. I can visualise the situation, but then I would expect it to create the same lost feature problems as encountered in opening with an earlier version. So there would still be a risk that the file would lose something in translation.
And then again, if a CS2 plug-in has been used and is required to open the file, I would expect the translation into XML to ignore anything that can't be translated, and for the depleted file still to open in CS3.

  • InDesign CS6 won't open files

InDesign CS6 won't open some files. No error message, simply returns to previous 'Open...' view. I've tried restarting, rebooting, resetting my InDesign preferences and re-unzipping the original zip file. I can still open previously worked on files, though. (Even in the second folder of unzipped files, it's the same files that I can and cannot open.) Any ideas? InDesign

Ooh – I just had another look to check that they are CS6 files. The are, but each file size is 0 bytes – think that may be the problem! Thanks again both for responding so quickly. :-)
That sounds like you have the resource fork for a Mac-generated .indd file. Check to see if there is another file with the same name but a real file size in the zip archive. I suspect the "real" file (the data fork) is being unzipped first, then the resource fork is overwriting without warning and you could solve it by extract9ng the files manually.

  • Can't open InD CS2 files in InD CS4

I have tons of files created in CS2 version of InDesign on Windows XP Pro. On my machine, I installed CS4 Design Standard on the same OS. Now, when trying to open most of CS2 files, I'm getting the error message "Cannot open "filename". Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest version, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign." But no plug-in mentioned in this message.
Is there any solution to a problem?

Are you being offered the option, in CS4, to open the CS2 files with
    missing plugins?
That's the message I get when I'm trying to open CS2 files (not all of them but many):
CS2 is installed on machine nearby. I tried exporting CS2 files to INX on that computer and then opened them in CS4, and noticed another issue: some content was missing (e.g. anchored text frames).
By trial and error worked out such a routine:
    1) In CS2, disable all 3d party plug-ins
    2) Open CS2 file, delete all the content and export in INX
    3) Open INX, drag-and-drop pages from CS2 file
    4) Save as a new CS2 file
    5) Open in CS4
It works, but I wonder if there's an easier way?

  • Is there a way to restore photos from Drop box to my desktop iPhoto in a large batch instead of one at a time? I tried and a zip file was downloaded but won't open. Says file format not recognized.

Is there a way to restore photos from Drop box to my desktop iPhoto in a large batch instead of one at a time? I tried and a zip file was downloaded but won't open. Says file format not recognized. I see how to do it one at a time with the "download" button in Dropbox but that's so cumbersome for lots of photos.

  • Adober Reader suddenly won't open any PDF files (Mac)

I had an old version, I downloaded the latest one, upgraded to the newest, even tried taking that one out and downloading an older version. It doesn't matter which version I seem to have, it won't open any pdf files from the web.
I use a Mac, and Safari. It used to always load PDF files fine, one random place said I had to update it so I did and since then, lately it'd crash and close all Safari windows when loading a PDF or trying to copy something from a PDF. The smart Mac message I have says it could be related to an Adobe Plug in. However, now it won't even load PDF files at all, it always goes to a white page. Nothing happens.
What do I do?? I can't even save the PDF's as individual files and view then in Preview as an alternative option. It's a link online and normally would work. What happened??
    HELP!
    I have a Mac OS X Version 10.5.8
I've always used Safari, it's Version 5.0.5 (5533.21.1 if that means anything).
Acrobat Reader, currently an old version 9.4.0 download. BUT, I had also the 10.0.1 version which also doesn't work. When I had that 10.0.1 version and checked for updates, there was an update (.3 I think?) and I did that and that also doesn't work!
Why did it suddenly stop working?
What can I do to fix it ASAP?
Only with 9.4.0 version I can go to Help and "Repair Adobe Reader Installation" - I click that and the only box I can select is "Adobe PDFViewer Safari Plugin - View, fill-in and collaborate on Adobe PDFs within Safari"  - I click continue and it tells me there's "No missing components detected. Repairs are not needed." The only option is to click "OK".
With any newer version of Adobe Reader, under Help there is no option to "Repair Adobe Reader Installation". So... I can't even try that with a new version.
I am at a loss for solutions. Hope someone here can help! Thanks!

There are several things you can do. My first step would be to repair permissions. If that doesn't work log on as a different user. If all works properly then you have a corrupt preference file (most likely) or a corrupt user font installed in your user Library (less likely). If that doesn't work download Applejack. Have it repair the disk, remove all system caches and user caches. Then have it check all system and user preference files. Remove any preference files that are corrupt. Reboot and see if your system is working properly.

Since updating last time Firefox will not open new tabs unless I right click on a link. It won't open them via file or the tab at the top of the brwoser or usinf ctrl + t. Anyone know how to fix this?

I can press ctrl for a new tab but otherwise a new tab does not open. I actually need help regarding this new Synch which apparently will be in Firefox automatically in an upcoming version so I am asking how that will synch with people who use LastPass-of course because I use this very successfully and really am not eager to change the set up that I have in place at this time.
I have read through endless FAQ trying to find anyone else who has this question or concern but have found nothing. Can you please tell me how that service will get along with LastPass which does basically the same thing as Synch-it is probably spelled wrong as it looks wrong to me but if I click back to where this issue began, I will lose all of this question so please respond for the upcoming service synch.

  • Files on one of my icloud email mailboxes won't open.  No files in the mailbox will open

Files in one of my icloud mailboxes won't open.  No files in this mailbox open, but other icloud mailboxes do.  Any ideas?

Thank you. I tried the soft reboot again, and the home button has been working fine this whole time. I have tried deleting the email acct from the settings and the mail app still opens only empty frames. I have a screen shot of it, but don't know how to post it here to be able to show what exactly is happening.
The mail app will open. I can see the area that usually shows the messages themselves. I can also see the area that usually displays all the accts. Both these areas are completely blank. The search bar is showing on the left hand side, and up on the top right, the download button, reply, delete and compose buttons are showing. At the very bottom left the refresh button is showing. The app sits like that for about 20 seconds and then automatically closes. None of the buttons are responsive. I cannot see any of the email accounts I have in the app (3, usually but 2 at the moment since deleting the acct that seemed to have caused this problem).
I have force-stopped the app, shut down and restarted the iPad, and rebooted the iPad. None of these have helped.
