  • InDesign CS6 Crashes When Placing Images

    Crash data: http://pastebin.com/CaBML9zw
This problem just started this weekend, but every time I try to place an image into this file, InDesign crashes. I've exported the project to an IDML file, then worked off of it, but it does the same thing. When I try to relaunch InDesign, it often will not open again & gives a "serious error" pop-up (apologies for not having the screenshot on here).
Could someone help me decipher this please? I'm about to throw things.
I'd really appreciate some help with this. Thank you!

  • InDesign crashes while exporting to PDF

I have one PDF that after placing in InDesign cannot be exported to PDF
InDesign crashes on Windows and Macintosh, versions from CS3 to CC
Any ideas what can be wrong with my PDF?

I reckon you might find that you have font clashes as your PDF is being created. I had a similar issue a few weeks back where I had created a Brochure, sent it to the client, went through rounds of amends, and the final round of amends prior to print sign off was sent in a word document. When I opened the word doc, I copied and pasted the amends, all looked fine, so I created one last PDF... crash.
I ahve a suspicion that word auto-activated a font that didn't agree with fonts within the InDesign file. I deactivated many fonts, restarted my Mac and hey presto... sorted!
Now, the PDF that you imported into your InDesign file may well be the culprit activating a dodgy font, and this becomes a bit problematical. So, you could open it in Photoshop and save it as a high res image, or you could open it in Illustrator and hopefully all text has remained in place and will enable you to ouline fonts and save it as an illustrator file... BUT, you must advise and get your client to check the contents of the resultant file if you go down either of these routes.

  • InDesign crashing when working on a document

    Hi all,
I am using CS6 and Windows 7. I have used Photoshop for a while with no problem but am just starting to use InDesign and it keeps crashing. I can insert images and text and save a document but crashes occur when working on a document -  most often when using the selection tool =
I get these two messages during startup so are these relevant to the crashing or any other ideas please?

@  Michael Witherell thanks for your reply. My InDesign is up to date in Help / Updates (if that is what you mean by the patch) and yes I have reset the preferences but the problem is the same - touching the select tool is enough to cause a crash. While  searching on InDesign crashing I saw a suggestion to create a new user in Windows. I don't want to speak too soon but this seems to fix the problem - with my regular Windows user (in which I do everything inlcluding CS6 Photoshop) and with no other programs running, using the select tool (for example) immediately causes InDesign to crash but with the new user it seems so far that I can use the select tool - move stuff around - with no crashing so far. Does that give any clue to what the problem is?
    Thanks...

  • Indesign crashes when updating a linked document

    This is a reproducible crash.
I have a indd file, several pages long with other embedded / placed indd documents inside.
When a linked file in the original documents has been changed, I naturally get a notice in the "links" tab. So far so good.
When I right-click and select "Edit original", the original document opens up and I get the usual notice if I like to update the changed link.
I select yes and save the document and close it to get back to doc I started with and then Indesign crashes.
Can this be fixed? It's extremely annoying.
    Tia.

Sphynx25 I have the exact problem and have been dealing with it for a couple years now, it's incredibly annoying. I wonder if there's some preference that would eliminate the document from automatically checking the links?? Seems this is what causes the crashes. I fiddled with what I could find in the preferences to no avail.
If you figure this one out please let me know, I'll do the same.

  • Indesign CSS crashes when placing a Word document

I can place images and other file types fine. but have been unable to place word documents, I save, save as, save as an older version of word. It is just appears to be loading, but becomes 'not responding' and I have to shut it down through task manager. I have been copying and pasting, but this is very unproductive. Please help. Thank you.

    Hello Peter,
Thank you for all your help, I did not know you replied, so perhaps the email went into my spam.  I followed the instructions here: http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/troubleshoot-damaged-indesign-documents.html and did #8. It took a while, but I eventually found the culprit was a pasted image in the document causing trouble.

  • InDesign is crashing  while opening a new document

    Hi All,
I want to open a new document from InDesigm CS2.When I open a new document from File->New->Document from menu ,InDesign is crashing and giving error report.
It is not happening in the case when I open existing documnet from
    File->Open.
Existing document is opening without any problem.
How can I get rid of this surprising problem ?
Can it be due to some missing PlugIn??

Check for Third Party plugins. Make sure that you only have plugins that come with InDesign application. Remove custom/sample plugins and try again.
If the above doesn't work, delete InDesign preferences (at C:\Documents and Settings\...\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign).

  • InDesign CS 4 - Placing image problem

In InDesign CS 4, when I select 'place' from the file menu and choose an image, the cursor is loaded; I can either click once on the document to place the entire image, or I can click and drag the cursor to place the image.
Clicking and dragging the loaded cursor automatically resizes the image to the size of the box created by dragging. This is a problem. In CS 3, this did not happen. Is this a preference that can be turned off, or is this a bug?
    Thanks,

Clicking will put it at 100% with the upper left corner exactly where you click, just as if you clicked and dragged down and to the right in CS3, the only difference being that dragging a frame in CS3 might have cropped an image, or left a frame with empty space. In CS4 you get the whole image by clicking, as in CS3.
Holding the Shift key while dragging in CS4 releases the shape constraint and sets the fitting property to fit to frame proportionally and centers the image (which probably isn't too helpful), and if you have smart dimensions turned on your operators can always watch the numbers to see when they've reached 100%.
I don't recall a way to get back the ability to drag a frame with the loaded cursor and place a cropped image at 100%, but you can pre-draw the frame(s) and then issue the place command, dropping into the frames and they will be placed at 100%.

  • Indesign crashes when placing PDFs

    All,
When placing PDFs in and Indesign file, it occasionally crashes. Usually when doing multiple pages, one at a time, some work and some crash.... although the ones that crash always crash and I cannot get them placed.
The goal is to put the PDFs in the file and add text and/or images over the PDF.
    Solutions?
    Power Book Pro OS 10.8.5
    Indesign CS 6

    Eugene,
Produced with IText 2.0.2 (by Iowagie.com), PDF version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x)
However, some of the pages place just fine, and some crash every time. Suspect there's corruption on the crashing pages.
Is there a way I could save the file in a different format or program and open that into Indesign?

  • InDesign crashing while exporting to pdf

InDesign CS4 seems to crash when I'm exporting to a pdf when I have a large amount of text on the page. Is there a way to get around this? It will export to a jpeg but we need pdf. I do contract work for a map company and this page is 23x36" and has a street index on it, 5.5pt type. Thanks for any suggestions.

CS3 crashes on export were extremely rare -- in almost every case I could relocate the problem to a faulty image, (never a font, 'cause I'm real careful and don't use freewarez. Being paranoid doesn't mean they are not after you...
However, just today a co-worker asked for help on his CS4 crashing document. A mere 180 pp., a moderate amount of images and text. A shiny new Mac, with a brand new, freshly installed CS4. Lots of extra RAM -- 4 gigs. Oodles of free disk space available. He forgot to install the 6.0.1 update, but that was soon (>350MB download...) fixed. Oh yeah, and the document started out as a CS3 one.
I went through the recommended motions: IDML -- still crashing. INX (yeah I know -- but he hadn't used any '4 functions yet) -- still crashing. Tried exporting the same document on my PC ... no problem!
Printing to PS and distilling, no problem. So that's the route he finally took and considered it 'solved', but I'm not happy, 'cause we're mass-upgrading all through the office and this sounds as if it could be a recurring prob...
